2. Motifs- Fragmentation
๏ง The use of fragmentation is used a lot through out this
music video, from the screen shots below you can see
the close ups of the eyes, mouth and breasts this tactic is
used to excite the viewer so they can keep watching.
๏ง There is a lot of scenes on the face and body in this
music video through rapid shots which makes the video
more interesting for the viewer too watch.
3. Motifs- Myths and Mysterious Places
๏ง Through out this music video we see the star Katy Perry
falling from outer space into what looks to be an post
apocalyptic world through too the other star Kanye West
floating in a space ship.
๏ง This is used in this video to again keep the viewer
watching the video but also too make it a more memorable
video so people would come back too watch it.
4. Impossible Sequences
๏ง A lot of shots in the video are very fast or slowed down ones that
interlink with each other these are called impossible shots another
aspect of this video that comes under impossible sequences is
special effects.
๏ง These are not true too life and this is why they are called impossible
shots.
๏ง As you can see the two shots here show the special effects on the
make up on the star and the colour change from bright colours to
almost a sepia effect.
5. Aspects of Controversy
๏ง The music video has a lot of different aspects of
controversy throughout it, the video subtly hints
about sex. Watching scenes back over again,
nearly every little detail is about sex and this is the
general theme.
I have come to realise that some of the more
quicker scenes of this video are not suitable for
family viewing and have been blanked out on
television but not on the internet.
๏ง The screen shots on the next page shall show the
aspects of controversy through out this video.
7. Aspects of Controversy- Subtle Hints
๏ง So clearly you can see through the screen shots there is
many different subtle hints too do with the on going
theme of sex through out this video.
๏ง Another aspect that is used is her colour of her clothing
white too red, white is usually shown as a sign of purity
and red shown as sexuality, again another subtle hint of
the music video which you can see below.
8. How the lyrics inform the narrative
๏ง
๏ง
๏ง
๏ง
The lyrics through out these two slides, gives the listener more of a story too go
on.
Parts of Katy Perryโs verses:
Take me, ta-ta-take me
Your touch magnetizing
Wanna be a victim
Feels like I am floating
Ready for abduction
Leaves my body glowing
They say, be afraid
You're not like the others
Futuristic lover
You open my eyes
And I'm ready to go
Lead me into the light
Kiss me, ki-ki-kiss me
Infect me with your love and
Fill me with your poison
Your touch so foreign
You're so supersonic
Wanna feel your powers
Stun me with your lasers
Your kiss is cosmic
Every move is magic
9. How the lyrics inform the narrative
๏ง
๏ง
Parts of Kanye West Verse:
Getting stupid ass straight about the charge
Pockets on Shrek, rockets on ya dick
Tell me what's next, aliens have sex
I'mma disrobe you, than I'mma probe you
See I abducted you, so I tell ya what to do
๏ง
As you can see I have chosen the more controversial
side too the lyrics first, I wanted to show how the controversial images before in
the previous slides make sense to lyrics as the viewer matches the two and two
together we get a story about an ex boyfriend or lover, relating to the theme on
sex.
10. How the lyrics inform the narrative
๏ง
The less controversial side too the lyrics is the alien references which
cover up the real theme behind this song, which is how interlinks with
outer space, aliens, space ships etc.
๏ง
๏ง
Parts of Kanyeโs Verse:
Welcome to the danger zone
Step into the fantasy
๏ง
They calling me an alien
A big headed astronaut
Parts of Katy Perryโs Verse:
Different DNA
They donโt understand you
Your from a whole other world
A different dimension
You open my eyes
And Iโm ready to go lead me
into the light
Ready for abduction
Boy, you're an alien
Your touch so foreign
Its supernatural
Extraterrestrial
