Genesis 1:8 || Meditate the Scripture daily verse by verse
The God of the Affirmative
1.
2. 2 CORINTHIANS 1: 18 - 22
But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not
“Yes” and “No.” 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was
preached among you by us—by me and Silas and Timothy—
was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always been
“Yes.” 20 For no matter how many promises God has made,
they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is
spoken by us to the glory of God. 21 Now it is God who makes
both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his
seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a
deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
3. WHAT IF YOU SAID “YES” TO EVERY
OPPORTUNITY THAT CAME YOUR WAY
Premise of Jim Carey Movie: Yes Man
Silly, of course, and yet Yes Man invites us to consider
how our own lives might change if we lived them
more openly,
more courageously,
and more affirmatively
4. “YES” PEOPLE OR “NO” PEOPLE?
How would the people who know us describe our basic approach to life:
Arms open or arms folded?
Expectant or resisting?
Do you think of the Lord as a “yes” God or a “no” God?
In this passage: Paul affirms that he is a “yes man”
BECAUSE God is a “yes God”
”For no matter how many promises God has made, they
are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is
spoken by us to the glory of God” (v. 20)
5. BACKGROUND OF PASSAGE
Paul intended to visit the church in Corinth (he had founded it)
but was forced to change his plans.
He wrote them a letter instead.
Paul’s enemies used this to accuse him.
They said he was mixing his “yes” and his “no” and waffling
like a weak leader
He is defending himself in 2 Corinthians, saying in effect:
“God does not mix His yes
and His no – and I don’t either!”
6. GOD OF THE AFFIRMATIVE
“But as surely as God is faithful, our message
to you is not “Yes” and “No.” 19 For the Son of
God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among
you by us—by me and Silas and Timothy —was
not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has
always been “Yes.” 20 For no matter how many
promises God has made, they are “Yes” in
Christ... “
7. OUR “YES” DOES THREE THINGS:
1.It aligns us with whatever we
are saying “yes” to.
2.It produces an affirming
attitude
3.Makes us available to grace
and miracles
8. GOD’S “YES” HAS…
* Power
* Substance
It does not change like “shifting
shadows” (James)
