2. Romans 6:1-14 What shall we say then? Shall we
continue in sin that grace may abound? (2) Certainly
not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in
it? (3) Or do you not know that as many of us as
were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into
His death? (4) Therefore we were buried with Him
through baptism into death, that just as Christ was
raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even
so we also should walk in newness of life. (5) For if
we have been united together in the likeness of His
death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of
His resurrection, (6) knowing this, that our old man
was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be
done away with, that we should no longer be slaves
of sin. (7) For he who has died has been freed from
sin. >>>
3. (8) Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we
shall also live with Him, (9) knowing that Christ,
having been raised from the dead, dies no more.
Death no longer has dominion over Him. (10) For the
death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but
the life that He lives, He lives to God. (11) Likewise
you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to
sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (12)
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body,
that you should obey it in its lusts. (13) And do not
present your members as instruments of
unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to
God as being alive from the dead, and your
members as instruments of righteousness to God.
(14) For sin shall not have dominion over you, for
you are not under law but under grace.
5. "Something In The Water" by Carrie Underwood
He said, "I've been where you've been before.
Down every hallway's a slamming door.
No way out, no one to come and save me.
Wasting a life that the Good Lord gave me.
Then somebody said what I'm saying to you,
Opened my eyes and told me the truth.“
They said, "Just a little faith, it'll all get better."
“So I followed that preacher man down to the river,
and now I'm changed, And now I'm stronger.”
There must've been something in the water.
Oh, there must've been something in the water.
Well, I heard what he said and I went on my way,
Didn't think about it for a couple of days,
Then it hit me like a lightning late one night,
I was all out of hope and all out of fight,
Couldn't fight back the tears so I fell on my knees,
Saying, "God, if you're there come and rescue me."
6. Felt love pouring down from above.
Got washed in the water, washed in the blood,
and now I'm changed, And now I'm stronger.
There must be something in the water,
Oh, there must be something in the water.
And now I'm singing along to amazing grace,
Can't nobody wipe this smile off my face.
Got joy in my heart, angels on my side,
Thank God almighty, I saw the light.
Gonna look ahead, no turning back,
Live every day, give it all that I have.
Trust in someone bigger than me,
Ever since the day that I believed,
I am changed, And now I'm stronger.
There must be something in the water.
Oh, there must be something in the water.
Oh, there must be something in the water.
Oh, there must be something in the water (like me), Oh, yeah.
I am changed (I once was lost), Stronger (but now I'm found)
(was blind but now I see).
7. BAPTISM CHANGES EVERYTHING
A. We know it’s not something in the water.
B. It is God changing us through our obedience.
C. Galatians 6:14-15 But God forbid that I
should boast except in the cross of our Lord
Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been
crucified to me, and I to the world. (15) For in
Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor
uncircumcision avails anything, but a new
creation.
D. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation; old things have
passed away; behold, all things have become
new.
8. I.A CHANGE IN RELATIONSHIPS
A. A CHANGE OF FAMILIES - Gal 3:26-29) For you
are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
{27} For as many of you as were baptized into
Christ have put on Christ. {28} There is neither
Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free,
there is neither male nor female; for you are all
one in Christ Jesus. {29} And if you are Christ’s,
then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs
according to the promise.
B. A CHANGE OF MASTER - Matthew 6:24 "No one
can serve two masters; for either he will hate the
one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to
the one and despise the other. You cannot serve
God and mammon.
9. I.A CHANGE IN RELATIONSHIPS
C. A CHANGE OF CITIZENSHIP
1.John 3:3-5 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most
assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he
cannot see the kingdom of God.” {4} Nicodemus said
to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can
he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be
born?” {5} Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to
you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he
cannot enter the kingdom of God.
2.Colossians 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of
darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son
of His love,
D. A CHANGE OF FRIENDS - James 4:4 Adulterers and
adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the
world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be
a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
10. II. A CHANGE IN ATTITUDES
A. A CHANGE IS WHAT BRINGS REJOICING - Acts
8:36-39 Now as they went down the road, they
came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See,
here is water. What hinders me from being
baptized?" {37} Then Philip said, "If you believe
with all your heart, you may." And he answered
and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
God." {38} So he commanded the chariot to stand
still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down
into the water, and he baptized him. {39} Now when
they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the
Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw
him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.
B. A CHANGE OF DESIRE - Philippians 1:23 For I am
hard pressed between the two, having a desire to
depart and be with Christ, which is far better.
11. II. A CHANGE IN ATTITUDES
C. A CHANGE OF INTERESTS - Acts 8:4 Therefore those
who were scattered went everywhere preaching the
word.
D. A CHANGE OF CONSCIENCE - 1 Pet 3:18-22) For Christ
also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that
He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh
but made alive by the Spirit, {19} by whom also He went
and preached to the spirits in prison, {20} who formerly
were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering
waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being
prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved
through water. {21} There is also an antitype which now
saves us; baptism (not the removal of the filth of the
flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God),
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, {22} who has
gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels
and authorities and powers having been made subject to
Him.
12. III. A CHANGE OF DIRECTIONS
A. A CHANGE OF LEADERS - Colossians 1:13 He has
delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed
us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
B. A CHANGE OF PATHS - Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter by the
narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way
that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in
by it. (14) Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the
way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
C. A CHANGE OF DEBT - Col 2:11-13) In Him you were also
circumcised with the circumcision made without hands,
by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the
circumcision of Christ, {12} buried with Him in baptism,
in which you also were raised with Him through faith in
the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. {13}
And you, being dead in your trespasses and the
uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together
with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
13. III. A CHANGE OF DIRECTIONS
D. A CHANGE OF STATES - Mark 16:15-16 And He said to
them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to
every creature. {16} “He who believes and is baptized will
be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
E. A CHANGE OF PURITY - Acts 22:12-16 “Then a certain
Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a
good testimony with all the Jews who dwelt there, {13}
“came to me; and he stood and said to me, ‘Brother Saul,
receive your sight.’ And at that same hour I looked up at
him. {14} “Then he said, ‘The God of our fathers has
chosen you that you should know His will, and see the
Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth. {15} ‘For you
will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and
heard. {16} ‘And now why are you waiting? Arise and be
baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of
the Lord.’
F. A CHANGE OF HABITS - 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have
passed away; behold, all things have become new.
14. BAPTISM TRULY CHANGES EVERYTHING
A.We are changed into Jesus’ image!
B.Romans 8:29 For whom He foreknew, He
also predestined to be conformed to the
image of His Son, that He might be the
firstborn among many brethren.
C.Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to one
another, since you have put off the old
man with his deeds, (10) and have put on
the new man who is renewed in knowledge
according to the image of Him who created
him,
15. BAPTISM TRULY CHANGES EVERYTHING
E. 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled
face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the
Lord, are being transformed into the same
image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit
of the Lord.
F. ONE DAY WE WILL BE FULLY LIKE JESUS -
Philippians 3:20-21 For our citizenship is in
heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for
the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, (21) who
will transform our lowly body that it may be
conformed to His glorious body, according to
the working by which He is able even to
subdue all things to Himself.
