God is defined as faithful in keeping His promises and covenants. He is reliable, steadfast, and unwavering. Throughout the Bible there are many examples of God's faithfulness, such as His promises to the Israelites and fulfilling prophecies through Jesus Christ. As Christians, we can have confidence that God will forgive our sins if we repent and accept Jesus, as God is faithful in His promise of salvation.

1. The Promises and Faithfulness of God – 28th July 2016
“For nomatter how manypromisesGodhas made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And sothrough himthe
“Amen” isspoken by us to the glory ofGod” (2 Corinthians1:20).
To be faithful istobe reliable, steadfastandunwavering, andthe Bible speaksof thistype of
faithfulness:Firstwe mustknowthatFaithfulnessisanattribute of God.It can alsobe a positive
characteristicof some people.Butthisisa characteristicthatmany lack.AsChristianswe know thatthis
mannerismisa giftof the HolySpirit. Faithfulisalsousedinthe bible inreference to “believing”.
Scripture speaksoftenof God’sfaithfulness. Whenwe readthe bible,we come acrosstestimonyafter
testimonyof God’sfaithfulness andisfoundthroughoutthe Bible andisstill givenintestimoniesby
people today. Inthe HolyScriptures,we cansee thatGod isfaithful andHisWord istrue. Therefore as
Christians we needtobe certainthatGod will notlie, norwill He breakan unconditionalpromisethat
He saysHe will fulfill…
We can learn where Godisdefined asstatedinDeuteronomy 7:9, “Knowtherefore that the LORD your
Godis God;he is the faithful God,keepinghiscovenant of loveto a thousandgenerationsofthose
who lovehim andkeep hiscommandments." We can learnthat everycovenant Godmade iskept.
Everypromise orforetellinghasorwill come true… God wantedtomake the unchangingnature of his
purpose veryclearto mankind. We can learnof the certaintyof Gods promises aswe learnfrom
Hebrews 6:16-18, “Peopleswear by someonegreater thanthemselves, andthe oathconfirmswhat is
saidand putsan end to all argument. 17
Because Godwanted to make the unchangingnatureof his
purposevery clear to the heirs of what was promised,he confirmedit withan oath. 18
Goddidthisso
that, by two unchangeablethingsinwhichit is impossibleforGodto lie,we who have fledto take
holdof the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged”.
The faithfulnessof GodisstarklyevidentinHisrelationshipwiththe Hebrew/Jewishpeople.Godmade
a landcovenantwithAbraham(patriarchof many nations) andhasneverwithdrawnwhatHe has
promised.Thoughthe Jewishpeople have beenscatteredaroundthe world,Godpromisedtheywould
returnto the land He promisedAbraham, Isaac,Jacob, and all theirdescendants. We canread from
Zechariah8:7-8, “Thisis what the LORD Almightysays:“I will save my people fromthe countries of the
east and the west. 8
I will bring them back to live inJerusalem; they will be my people, andI will be
faithful andrighteousto them as their God.”.AmongGod’sfulfilledpromiseswasthatthe people of
Israel wouldagainbecome anationinthe landHe says istheirs.Thisprophecymade inthe Old
TestamentwasfulfilledinMayof 1948. Since then, the Jewishpeople have beenreturninghome.
There are literallydozens of scripturesof God’sfaithfulness.None howevermaybe the mostlife-
changingas those that proclaimHisforgivenessof oursins. There are manyOldTestamentprophecies

2. We can alsoget a clearunderstandingof GodsFaithfulnesswhenwe read John3:16,”For Godso loved
the world that he gave hisone and onlySon, that whoever believesin him shall notperish but have
eternal life”.Due to Gods faithfulness, He fulfilledHispromisebysendingJesusChristtosave mankind
frometernal destruction. We canlearnthisfrom Acts 13:32-34, “Wetell youthe goodnews: WhatGod
promisedour ancestors 33
he hasfulfilledforus, their children,by raisingup Jesus. As it is written in
the second Psalm:“Youare my son; todayI have become yourfather”34
Godraisedhimfrom the dead
so that he will never be subject to decay. As Godhassaid,“‘I will give youthe holyandsure blessings
promisedto David.’
God isso faithful thatanyone whoseeksHimcanfindHim.Faithisa gift, butevena giftmustbe opened
to be enjoyed.Aswe implementourfaith,we begintorealize more andmore aboutGod’sfaithfulness
to us. Amongmany otherswe have selectedthe followingversesthatwillenableadeeper
understandingof GodsFaithfulnessformankind:Firstwe canlearnfrom 1 Corinthians1:9, “Godis
faithful, whohascalledyou into fellowshipwithhisSon,Jesus Christour Lord.” Foran example if a
friendisNOTfaithful toyou,will youeveninvite thatpersontoevenenterbeyondyourgate?ButGod is
faithful andhe even callsusintofellowshipwithHisson! We can alsolearnfrom 1 Corinthians
10:13,“…and Godis faithful;hewill not let you be tempted beyondwhat youcan bear. But when you
are tempted, he will alsoprovidea way out so that you can endure it”.Againwe can learnfrom 2
Thessalonians3:3 - “The Lord is faithful, andhewill strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”
We are assuredof Godsfaithfulnessfromabove statedandmanymore suchpassagesthat we can learn
fromthe bible. We have agreat teachingfrom 1 John1:9, “Ifwe confessour sins,he is faithful andjust
and will forgiveus our sinsandpurify usfrom all unrighteousness.” Withabsolutenesswe canhave the
confidence thatGodwill forgive us. AsChristianswe mustknow thatourGod isa faithful Godandthat
we will fulfillall Hispromisesformankind. Therefore we have anassurance statedin 2 Corinthians1:20,
“Forno matter howmany promisesGodhas made, they are “Yes” inChrist. And so throughhim the
“Amen” isspoken by us to the glory ofGod”.
