Our team attended to NASA Space Apps Ankara 2019 hackathon in the category of "Dust Yourself Off". We propose a solution to clean moondust from space suits and space devices.
2. OUR GOAL
We are aiming to prevent space systems and suits from negative
outcomes of moon dust.
3. THE MOON/LUNA
• The one and only natural
satellite of the Earth
• The fifth biggest satellite
Solar System
• Average surface
temperature: -
153°C(night) - 107°C(day)
4. IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM;
a study from Stony Brook University
• 90 percent of human lung cells were found to cause death.
• Increases the risk of cancer
• Moon soil is the product of millions of years of micrometeoid effects,
extreme temperature changes and continuous cosmic ray
bombardments. The dust particles in the moon become chemically
reactive and carry a high static charge. These gray powders may stick
to Astronaut's clothing during the lunar mission.
5. • PROBLEM: ASTRONAUTS ENCOUNTER MOON
DUST WHEN THEY FIRST LAND ON THE LUNAR
SURFACE (REGOLITH). WHAT IS THIS
MOONDUST?
• It occurs when meteors fall. Lunar
Dust
Olivin
Mg2SiO4 FeSiO4
Paramagnetik
Ferromagnetik
SiO2
Diamagnetik
6. OUR IDEAS
It should be simple, convenient, purposeful
and inexpensive.
• Nanocarbon technology for
spacecrafts
• Magnetic separation for astronaut
clothes
7. MAGNETIC
SEPERATION
The astronaut suits, which
are adhered to the moon
dust, are placed on the
magnetic separator, which
is designed with magnetic
tape. The magnetic
particles are attracted by
the tape, the non-magnetic
particles are collected in
another container
according to lorenz law.
F= q.V X B

10. NANOCARBON TECHNOLOGY
• When carbon nanotubes are shipped
quickly, the particles sweep around
and adhere to them, creating an
electric field. Since the electric field
will occur in the magnetic field, the
magnetic shield is formed by
sending it into the moon dust at a
height of 10 meters from the
ground. This prevents dust from
sticking to the vehicles during ups
and downs and prevents meteors
from falling and forming new moon
dust.
11. • The magnetic separator is a simple
separator and is priced at $ 3500.
1 gram of nanao carbon molecule fills
500 square meters and 1 gram
corresponds to 70 cents. When we
calculate the surface area of the moon
(406.000km2), it corresponds to $ 28
million.
A simple astronaut suit cost $ 12
million, so the budget spent is very
low.
BUDGET;
