The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) is a council that aims at ushering the erection of green buildings. As per the norms, each building is rated as either certified (32-39), silver (40-47), gold (48-59) or platinum (60-80). Though the building has not received a certification yet, they are sure to receive as they have super passed all the criterions set by the authorities. Environment Management
The head of the organization has taken special care to ensure that every aspect of the organization will come under the green certification. Environment Management
Building Construction Brick Brick, which is called as the “fly ash brick”, is made out of the residue of the foundry industry. Glass The glasses used on the building walls are double glasses i.e. between the 2 layers of glass is a layer of air. This is an insulating layer which prevents heat from conducting inside. Environment Management
This reduces the heat load on the air-conditioner and also reduces the electricity consumption This glass also allows plenty of light to enter into the building thereby reducing the requirement of lighting the building. Paint The paint used on the terrace reflects sunlight to a great extent and reduces the heat effect. This special variant of paint is called SRI (Solar Reflecting Index). Environment Management
The paint used is either zero volatile organic containing (zero-VOC) or non-VOC. This emits very little chemicals that are harmful to the human beings. The sealants used are green certified. Tiles Specially imported tiles (from Germany) are installed on the walls. These tiles don’t touch the wall directly. This is to reduce heat on the building thereby reducing electricity consumption. Environment Management
Equipments Used The air-conditioners uses the outgoing air to cool the incoming air. This facility known as ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilation) has reduced energy consumption by 20%. The compressors used are highly energy efficient. The chemicals used in the fire extinguishers and air-conditioners have very low harmful effects. Environment Management
The sensors automatically switch on and off the lights as soon as a person enters or leaves its range. The bank is lit by a combination of LEDs and CFLs. Environment Management
Paper Management SIB has made it a point to reduce paper consumption in every possible place. The documents are normally mailed here but due to legal obligations they are bound to present hard copies which they provide only if asked. Environment Management
Water Management Rain water harvesting is practiced here on a large scale. There is no over-head tank. Instead required amount of water is always stored in the taps. These taps are microprocessor controlled. This prevents water loss due to evaporation. The waste management system uses MBBR (Moving Bed Bio Reactor) which uses microorganisms to break down the waste components to simpler organic compounds. Environment Management
The water so obtained is purified using several methods and is finally filtered and is used for irrigation though it can also be used for removal of toilet waste. This greatly reduces the amount of additional water to be taken in from the environment. Environment Management
Building Monitoring System To monitor the building, a building management system is used. It enables every aspect of the building to be monitored from a central remote location. Intelligent meters are installed at various locations to take appropriate readings at proper intervals. This system is the fundamental requirement of all the green buildings. Environment Management

Most of the fauna includes trees, shrubs and Mexican lawn. Full-time gardeners are employed to keep the premises green. There are also plants on the rooftop, i.e. on the roof of the 3rd floor. This serves multiple purposes. One being it provides better cooling to the floor below as it covers up most of the exposed terrace. Environment Management
  • 25. The green roof has lush green plants and is definitely a stress buster. As per the norms of a green building very little roof area should be exposed. Parking lot is situated at the basemen to reduce fuel loss due to evaporation. The land is sculptured brilliantly to disallow surface run-off of soil. The soil is allowed to flow off into sedimentation a tank which is later brought back into the campus. Environment Management
