2. Title of the film:
During the planning of our opening sequence, we came up with a variety of titles which where:
• Woodend
• Guess who?
• The Body
• Who’s next?
• Dead or alive?
• Elle
The one that our group have decided on is ‘Who’s Next?’. We chose this title because we felt as if
it would create narrative enigma. This is because our opening sequence involves a teenage girl
going for a run in the woods and witnessing a dead body, therefore the audience question what is
going to happen next, could this girl be the next to be killed, buried in the woods and eventually
discovered?
3. Genre, Age Rating and Characters
GENRE: horror
AGE RATING: 15
CHARACTERS: two teenage girls, age 16. Molly Jones and Sarah Mackintosh, Sarah is the only one who will
be shown on camera, the audience will not be exposed to Molly but will be aware of who she is because Sarah
calls her at the beginning of the opening sequence.
Molly:
• We don’t need an actor for Molly however we will be using a member of our group’s voice to be the voice
that the audience hears when she’s on the phone to Sarah.
• Molly’s role in the storyline is Sarah’s best friend/Sarah’s running partner, she also plays the dead body
that Sarah finds in the woods.
• Molly is a kind-hearted girl who is intelligent and has no enemies. She is always there for Sarah and they’ve
been best friends since primary school.
• She doesn’t care much for what people think of her and isn’t concerned about her appearance.
Sarah:
• Sarah is the girl who arranges to meet Molly over the woods to go for a run and she finds Molly dead in
the dirt.
• Sarah has a similar personality to Molly however she’s more confident. Sarah is very sporty and is in to her
fitness (goes jogging 3x a week and is diet conscious) She pretty much drags Molly along with her even
though Molly doesn’t particularly enjoy running.
• We have asked our friend Naya to play ‘Sarah’ in our opening sequence. She’s of an Afro-Caribbean origin.
4. Font of title/credits
For our font we wanted something that looked conventional to the horror genre. We
did some research online and came across a font generator website, we found the
following pictures exhibiting horror fonts that we would like to use for the credits and
title of our opening sequence. The background in these photos are irrelevant, we are
simply focusing on the font not the colours etc. We will be using Final Cut Express to
edit our opening sequences, this software contains hundreds of fonts so hopefully we
will find be able to find one that is similar to the ones below.
Before the opening sequence even begins we will show the company logo then when
the sequence starts we were thinking of having the credits appearing on screen as the
action is taking place: Sarah leaving her house and walking to the woods. Then at the
very end of the opening sequence the screen is going to cut to black and the title is
going to appear on screen and then fade out.
5. Location/Setting/Storyline
Location/Setting:
• Belmont Downs, a wooded area that spreads into Banstead.
• Cotswold Road in Belmont- using Beth’s house for Naya to walk out of and make her way
to the Downs as it’s just down the road.
• The setting would consist of Beth’s front porch, Cotswold Road and Belmont Downs.
Storyline:
Beginning: Sarah saying goodbye to her mum as she leaves the house to go for a run, she
makes her way to the downs. Then she rings Molly to see where she is, hangs up, puts her
headphones in and continues to make her way to the usual place that they meet.
Middle: she jogs to the place that she meets, takes out her headphones and finds that Molly’s
not there, so she calls her and hears her phone ringing then realises that Molly’s phone is on
the ground but Molly is nowhere to be seen. She then comes across a shoe as she backs up
into it after falling to the floor or she sees the shoe first and then calls her friend, sees the
phone and realises that the shoe is Molly’s.
End: she then turns and see’s Molly lying in the dirt (the audience do not see the dead body,
only Sarah’s facial expression) she is dead. It ends on Sarah’s face as she is shocked by what
she has just seen, the shot cuts to black and the credits begin.
6. Ideas for Music/Sound
• The teenage girl in our opening sequence is going to be listening to headphones
as she makes her way to the woods to meet her friend so we want a piece of
music (preferably modern) with lyrics to play through the headphones and the
audience will be able to hear it because we want to play the song over the scene
rather than hear it through the headphones to make it feel more intense and as if
they’re in the scene with her. We want a piece of music that foreshadows
something bad is going to happen in the lyrics.
• We found a piece of up-beat dubstep music on youtube which has lyrics but the
lyrics do not suggest that something bad is going to happen however it has a
happy, energetic vibe which will contrast with the depressing atmosphere when
she reaches the downs, takes her headphones out an realises that her friend is
dead.
