  1. Twitter is a social network allows to to communicate, broadcast and share in 140 characters (or less)There are 100’s of benefits to using twitter on a daily basis both personally and for your business

  3. @ - know as @replies this is a method of replying to somebodies tweet, but unlike DM’s they are in in the public domain and will be seen in your social stream# - hastags are used to tie tweets together around a conversation or topic for instance we have #svlive for this event, if your do a search for twitter under #svlive you will be able to see all the people discussing the event RT – this is when a tweet is re-posted by another user, it’s benefit is that your tweet will get more impressions throughout the social network (more people will see it), it also proves you are posting valuable contentLists – are a method to organise the people you follow into groups, it’s good to get listed as it will align you with your specialty (thought leadership), makes you easier to find within specialitiesDM – a direct message is the method to communicate with followers out of the public domain – think of it as email in 140 charcters
  4. This is not supposed to be a scare tactic, it’s supposed to prompt you to find out who’s talking about your brand. I would imagine every business in this building will have a target audience at the very least on twitter if not customers.So you will need to do some research before you enter into the channel

PersonallyWhen I first started on twitter like most people I think I had that I don’t get it moment, but as soon as I found some key people to follow (using the twitter search, other peoples lists, and seeing who others we’re talking to via RT’s), I found it was a massively educational tool, people are always pointing to great postsI have meet with quite a few other tweeters that have directly come from following them on twitter, there are also many tweetups (networking events organised via twitter) a quick google search and you’ll find some in your area.In BusinessIf you’ve started using twitter search, you’ve already started to become a voyeur, this is a great way for initial feedback and opinion on your brand or productPromotion event, product launch, new service, sales (free download after you tweet about the company)Run competitionsCustomer service run via twitter (reduce phone call costs)Crowd sourcing – ask you target market about an idea you have for a new product, get them to help you out with a campaignEducate – provide tips on how to get the best out of your product, Q and A sessions with members of staffIntimacy – let people know what your business is up too day to day (insider information), let your customers into your brand culture, the good bad and the ugly, create a great story and transparency. 1 to 1 dialogueLead generation – follow your target market, engage with them give them a reason to communicate with you and begin your relationship
