Among The Multitude
"Among the multitudes" was written by Wislawa Szymborska. She published her firstpoem in 1945, which started her poetry career. She spent much of
her youth advocating for communism, but later become an advocate for free speech and individuality. Her poems exhibit a curious mind, finding joy in
even the simplest things, and often have simple yet subtle theme. "Among the Multitudes" reflects this, and exhibits many of the same elements and
themes of her other poems such as nature. This poem is a celebration of individuality, as she seeks awareness for the pure uniqueness and coincidental
life is. Syzmborska contrasts her individuality as she ponders what her life could have been instead and shows her gratitude for the life she has been
given through a series of coincidences and fate. Syzmborska wrote this poem in fourteen stanzas, each containing an interlinked idea connecting them
to the coincidences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"What if I'd prompted only fear, loathing, or pity" (32), this stanza shows that even the slightest emotion difference would completely change her
existence. "I might have been myself minus amazement, that is, someone completely different". She acknowledges her unique individuality and says
that even without her amazement she would be a completely different person all together. Her comparison of true self, to herself with different
emotions, or with a slight element of herself shows how human identity is shaped by even the slightest things, and she acknowledges how fortunate she
has been, "Fate hate been kind to me, thus far" (36–37). When she looks at her life compared to another being, or even someone slightly different she
realizes how lucky she is to have this life, for she "might not have been given the memory of happy moments"

"The Monkey's Paw": A Freudian Perspective Essay
If "The Monkey's Paw" is uncanny or not is a topic quite debatable, mainly because of the role the reader has in determining the uncertain events
which appear in the story. Anyhow, if the story is read according to Freud's point of view of what the uncanny is, the reader can surely state that "The
Monkey's Paw" is an uncanny story. There are many elements that are stated in Freud's conception which can be implicitly related to the story, such as
the fact of coincidence. But first of all, it is important to clarify what Freud meant by "uncanny" and how this concept is applicable to the story.
It is difficult to have an effective approach to what uncanny actually means. Even in Freud's essay "The Uncanny" from Art and Literature, the... Show

As Freud says, "[. . .] fiction presents more opportunities for creating uncanny feelings than are possible in real life" (374). That is why many other
explanations are still reserved, because what the readers are able to understand from a reading, is highly unexpected. These conditions are clearly
present in W.W Jacobs' story "The Monkey's Paw."
To begin with, the most predominant feeling in the story is the feeling of uncertainty, the doubt for coincidence. Elements such as the death of Herbert
and the knocks on the door after wishing for the boy to be alive, can be easily explain as "just coincidences"; there is nothing in the narration itself that
can lead the reader to assume that those elements were due to supernatural powers. By taking coincidence as a solution to the stated dilemmas, "The
Monkey's Paw" becomes immediately uncanny. Though we face an important feature in this story which is the power the reader has so as to decide
what actually happened, the story would not achieve the uncanniness if it weren't for the feeling of fear that are produced by hesitation. In other
words, the feelings which are produced by the story before coming to the conclusion that everything happens because of coincidence are a determining
fact for "The Monkey's Paw" to be uncanny. For example, almost at the end of this story, the reader faces see a desperate Mrs. White

Tale Of Two Cities Coincidence Essay
"It's hard to believe in coincidence, but it's even harder to believe in anything else," (John Green). I believe that the novel A Tale Of Two Cities
relies heavily on coincidence, a boring tactic, to further the plot in the story cheapening the story overall. This is shown through Sydney looking
very similar to Charles and saving his life, Jerry knowing about the fake funeral that helped make Darnay's case stronger, and by Charles Darnay
being the nephew of the Marquis who put his wife's father in jail. Sydney and Charles looking very similar is a very crucial part in the story.
However, is highly unlikely and in my opinion takes away from the story. Sydney uses the fact that they look so similar to acquit Darnay of his
accused crimes of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that Dickens used this as a tactic to show a them through the story. I thought that the theme he was trying to convey with this is the theme of
resurrection (which is also shown many other times within the story) by showing that the Marquis may have been his uncle but, his good side was
resurrected in the family. However, this coincidence makes the drastic differences between him and his uncle seem minor due to the fact that it was
just a "coincidence". This makes the theme less prevalent and much harder to pick up on. Due to resurrection being one of the main themes of the
book I feel that it being shown like this, as a little bit of irony, when it was actually a large thing that could have been played off to making it easily
shown and interesting it was just more or less swept off to the side and not touched as much as it should have been. The coincidence used in this
situation majorly affected a possible story outcome making it more interesting and dramatic. However, this was just another example of coincidence
cheapening the not just the story but of the story's main themes, which helps you interpret the story

Charles Dickens ' Tale Of Two Cities
Fated Coincidences Charles Dickens was a distinguished writer during the 1800s and was inspired by Thomas Carlyle's book French Revolution.
Dickens was influenced by this book to write his novel Tale of Two Cities. Even though he wrote the book seventy years after the French Revolution,
he studied many different books from two wagons from Carlyle which he sent as a joke. Throughout the book Tale of Two Cities, Dickens has a
recurring theme of fate. Dickens illustrates that everyone's lives are predetermined through coincidence shown in the characters Sydney Carton's
resemblance of Darnay, Doctor Manette's forgotten prosecution of the EvrГ©mondes, and Madame Defarge's broken family, resulting from the
Evrémondes. Carton's life is fated because of the coincidence that Carton and Darnay are doppelgängers. One example of when this coincidence is
useful is when Carton confounds the anonymous witness' case. In the courtroom, Darnay is being tried for treason. An anonymous witness is
cross–examined by Stryver stating he clearly saw Darnay." 'and then look well upon the prisoner. How say you? Are they very like each other?'
Allowing for my learned friend's appearance being careless and slovenly if not debauched, they were sufficiently like each other to surprise not only the
witness, but everybody present, when they were thus brought into comparison" (Dickens 55–56). Carton tells Stryver to compare each other to prove
that the witness could have seen anyone like Darnay. Carton

The 's Usage Of Chance And Coincidence As The Mode Of...
Lermontov's usage of chance and coincidence as the mode of expression of fate can be seen explicitly in "Princess Mary" and "The Fatalist," both
short stories from Pechorin's journal. "Princess Mary" retells the story of the time that Pechorin spent in the town of Pyatigorsk, a spa town located in
the Caucases. In Pyatigorsk, Pechorin encounters an old acquaintance of his, Grushnitsky, who Pechorin secretly dislikes despite his veil of friendship.
Also present in the town are Princess Ligovskaya and her daughter, the titular Princess Mary. Princess Ligovskaya and Princess Mary are very wealthy
and normally live in Moscow, where they live as eminent socialites. Grushnitsky is instantly captivated by the young Princess Mary and gradually...

Pechorin, now anxious at the probability of his survival, loses the toss and thus stations himself on the edge of the cliff. Pechorin, now doubting that
he will survive, gazes upon Grushnitsky with a degree of aristocratic fear, waiting for Grushnitsky to shoot. However as Grushnitsky stands just six
paces from the unarmed Pechorin, he loses his resolve to kill and exclaims, "I can't do it"(Lermontov 123). Yet he turns back toward Pechorin and fires
capriciously, merely grazing Pechorin's knee and causing him no harm. Knowing that Grushnitsky's second did not load his pistol, Pechorin has the
pistol loaded and proceeds to kill the unrepentant Grushnitsky.
Chance and Coincidence are thus used by Lermontov as the mode of expression of Fate in "Princess Mary." It was not fated for Pechorin to die at the
hand of Grushnitsky, thus chance compelled Grushnitsky to lose his will to kill Pechorin. Additionally, chance causes Grushnitsky's random shot at
Pechorin to merely graze Pechorin's leg. Because Pechorin was not predestined to die in this duel, everything unfolded precisely the way it needed to
in order to insure Pechorin's continued well–being. Conversely, the events of the duel occurred in such a way that assured Grushnitsky's death,
illustrating his predestination to die during the duel. Firstly, Pechorin would not have been able to shoot Grushnitsky if he did not know that a bullet
had not been loaded into his gun. Pechorin only gained

Examples Of Coincidence In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Introduction
Hook– Sometimes circumstances align with one another perfectly and cause an event which would never have occurred otherwise. There are many
words which describe such an occurrence, such as a coincide, a fluke, or even fate. Coincidence is as defined by the Merriam–Webster Dictionary is
"the occurrence of events that happen at the same time by accident but seem to have some connection".
Bridge– Acoincidence is a perfect way to describe why certain specific circumstances aligned to allow for the death of Santiago Nasar, a character from
Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez.
Quick Book Summary: In the book Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez, the murder of Santiago Nasar was investigated. After
Angela Vicario was returned to her family by her recently wed husband for not being a virgin, her mother sets her sons out on a mission to kill who
took it. Angela revealed Santiago took her virginity, and many circumstances would follow where his death could have been prevented, yet in the end,
he was brutally murdered on his own doorstep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Had people paid attention to him a little longer they could have informed Cristo of Santiago's location, and Cristo could have saved Santiago's life.
This was yet another missed opportunity to save Santiago. While the Vicario brothers dealt the final blow, certain circumstances aligned which
allowed Santiago to be perfectly unaware and unprepared. The author choice to repeatedly have these coincidences brings forth the almost
ridiculousness of Santiago's death. Even the judge in the story mocks the case, going as far as to call it illegitimate "that life should make use of so
many coincidences" (MГЎrquez, 99). MГЎrquez forces the reader to truly see the absurd nature in which Santiago died and goes as far to point it out

Analysis of the Success of Huawei: Coincidence or Consequence?
Abstract
This paper analyzes the success of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., one of the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturers in China. This paper
applies two prevalent organizational theories: the ecological and evolutionary approach and the resource–based view, to interpret the causes of the
success of Huawei. Based on the strength and weakness analysis of each theory in the explanation of the same phenomenon, the resource–based view is
recommended as a more effective theory to examine the organization structure and business strategies.

The marketing demand was sliding downslope, many large telecom equipments manufactures such as Nortel and Lucent faced the threat of financial
deficit, numerous medium and small sized telecom firms broke up.
While even during such a hard time, Huawei was still growing steadily. So we had to conclude that there must be something distinct inside Huawei that
accounts for its success. Since 1999, Huawei was among the first Chinese telecom companies who decided to explore the overseas market, while at that
time the domestic market was still huge and profitable. The cost of the exploration of the overseas market had been very high and the gains out of the
first two years were comparably so insignificant.
Chart II Sales of Wireless Products ($USD Million)
From the above chart, we can see that even in the first three years of exploration of overseas wireless market, there was no indication of success. But
Huawei endured and insisted in this strategy. According to the evolutionary theory, it is hard to explain why Huawei would make this strategic decision
when the domestic market is still abundant. In the meanwhile, without analyzing the internal mechanism of Huawei's decision making, it is also hard
to explain how Huawei could endure three years of
"failure" (Here I mean negative profit during this time) to cheer the final success.

Positron Emission Tomography
3. Advantages and Setbacks of PET Positron emission tomography is primarily used in the area of medicine and research study. It has been influential
in finding the cure for many diseases including Alzheimer's and cancer. The positron emitting glucose analog, 18F–fluoro–2–deoxyglucose (FDG) has
helped in the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring therapeutic response in various cancers. The metabolic imaging assessment is very helpful in
providing important clinical data which in turn improves the patient management [6]. It is proved that the FDG–PET scan has better sensitivity,
specificity, and diagnostic accuracy when compared to CT imaging in most cancer patients. The advantages of PET over other molecular imaging
techniques are detailed in the following sections. 3.1 Advantages 3.1.1 Sensitivity The most important advantage of PET imaging is it's ability to
exhibit a higher sensitivity (detecting and recording more number of emitted events) when compared to other methods such as SPECT, in which
physical collimators are required to reject photons, which are not within a defined angular range. Hence the collimators have lower geometric
efficiencies i.e. the percentage of detecting emitting photons (0.01%) [7]. 3.1.2 Coincidence Detection in PET Due to the annihilation event in PET,
there is no need to employ physical collimators. The collimation is done electronically using the coincidence detection method. This in turn increases
the angle of acceptance and hence the number of

Analysis Of 'More Guns, More Mass Shootings – Coincidence?'
Slowly and steadily stealing into our lives like a shadowy hoard from the burning bowels of the earth, the fiery debate on gun control threatens to rend
our country in two. Both sides often point deadly fingers at motives and character instead of arguments. Beliefs, founded and unfounded, range widely
across the board. On one side of this treacherous issue, Mark Follman penned an article for Mother Jones titled "More Guns, More Mass Shootings –
Coincidence?" in an attempt to destroy the pro–gun position. However, because he based upon a flawed worldview and some faulty logic, Follman
comes to incorrect conclusions.
As Follman attempts to evaluate his data, he fails to recognize cultural moral decay and illogically faces the mental illness trend. Unsurprisingly, he ...

Overall, Follman's argument recognizes that enhancing security remains essential to preventing these rampages. Obviously, increased and superior
security would terminate shootings more promptly. However, he utterly fails to note the option of training civilians to respond with force. Switzerland,
whose civilians' comprise their entire military, requires every adult male, excluding criminals and the mentally ill, to receive military training and own
a military assault rifle (Kopel). Interestingly, Switzerland also boasts an extremely low gun violence rate. By training our civilians, those immediately
present at shootings, we could end some of these sickeningly barbaric attacks sooner. Unsurprisingly, however, Follman either refuses to acknowledge
or conceals this fact. Instead of concentrating on bereaving patriotic citizens of defenses, the government could focus on training them to successfully
defend their countrymen. Although Follman claims an extensive study of firearm violence and potential solutions, he neglects to propose the simple and
tested path of civilian

Coincidences In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Throughout the play "Romeo and Juliet" there are multiple coincidences such as Romeo's love for Rosaline, his encounter with the illiterate
servant, and the moment he set his eyes on Juliet. Many events in the story would have been alters if these coincidences had not been present and
show they played an important role in aiding the story's progression. One of which would be when Romeo fell in love and was rejected by
Rosaline, a member of the Capulet family. Had Romeo not confessed his love to Rosaline he would not have been rejected and therefore no reason
to sneak into the Capulet's masquerade as he only did so in order to win her heart back. Another possibility is that she could have reciprocated his
feelings and the story would have simply ended at that. But because it did occur, Romeo and Juliet were able to meet. Romeo was not committed to
Rosaline so he was able to fall in love with another woman. Her rejection also gave him a sneak into the masquerade despite it being hosted by his

Irony By Charles Dickens ' A Tale Of Two Cities
Coincidence? I Think Ironic While the Victorian people called for romantic intrigue and petty drama in the literature of their time, Dickens' added
complexity to his novels not to satisfy the frivolous needs of Victorians but to further the theme of irony in his novel. In A Tale of Two Cities, irony is
an ever–present theme and is woven into the plot seamlessly by author Charles Dickens. Coincidence is a complementary theme to irony in this novel.
Dickens' constant implementation of situations of coincidence and chance leads to a greater sense of irony throughout this book. Dickens adds
complexity to the plot and further enforces the theme of irony in the novel through circumstances of coincidence, including the indictments of Charles
Darnay, the life and associates of Dr. Manette, and Madame Defarge's need for and path to revenge. Throughout the course of this novel, the ironically
kind and generous Charles Darnay is indicted three times, and on each occasion, the basis for the accusations against him and the surrounding
circumstances derive entirely from coincidence and chance. At Darnay's first trial in London where he has been accused of treason, Jerry Cruncher
spots Lucie Manette and Dr. Manette seated in the courthouse and inquires about their purpose for attendance and receiving the response "'Witnesses.'

Strike Price Is the Market Price. Coincidence?
The customary practice in granting stock options is to have the strike price set as the market price on the day the grant is made. Grantees can later
sell these stock shares at a higher price and make a profit. Over the last several years, several companies have been accused of issuing stock options to
their top executives at the lowest stock price of the year. This could lead to very large profits. Such manipulation of the strike price is unethical and
in some cases may be illegal. In some companies, granting options at the lowest price happened several years in a row. When asked about this

Monkey's Paw Uncanny
The psychological feeling of strange familiarity, rather than a simply mystifying feeling, may be referred to as the uncanny. Sigmund Freud's concept
of the uncanny is one where something familiar to us becomes odd, foreign, and even frightening. It is capable of creating not a comforting sensation,
but a terrifying one in the dissonance of familiarity and unfamiliarity. The unsettling, yet habitual sense, can be clearly discerned in WW Jacobs "The
Monkey's Paw" if read according to Freud's view of uncanny. Many elements in Freud's abstract thinking, implicitly connect with WW Jacobs

in The Uncanny, page 19). It's significant to note how the author utilizes suspense to draw the reader in and make them deeply analyze every
occurrence that may be familiar to them, such as coincidence. Components such as the death of Herbert and his immediate knocks, upon the wish of
him to become alive, may be described as lucidly 'coincidences'; yet there is no indication in the narration that can prove to the reader these elements
were caused by supernatural powers. Using coincidence as an explanation to the strange dilemma of sudden knocks, "The Monkey's Paw" promptly
becomes uncanny. Although an important component of this short story is that it allows the reader to decide what essentially occurred, it would not
achieve its uncanniness if the feeling of fright was not produced by hesitation; as seen in Part III, "He stood motionless, his breath suspended until the
knock was repeated." (page 10). The reaction of Mr.White, the father, may be on account of his past, now familiar, experiences with coincidence. In

Theme Of Coincidence In Tess Of D Urbervilles
Significance of Coincidences in Hardy's Novel Tess of D'urbervilles
ABSTRACT:
Hardy's novels often appeal to the readers on account of the philosophy of life that they offer. To be more precise and direct, the readers' response
depends on the philosophy of life as they receive from the novels. Most often the discussion happens on why and how Hardy constructs his plots
leaning more on to 'Fate', 'Destiny', 'Chance' and 'Coincidence'. When we put these terms in a proper perspective for better understanding, any
incidence is a coincidence as it happens due to chance and it is received as destiny which is the imposition of fate. So, one way of understanding is
that 'coincidence' is the visible manifestation of fate and 'fate' is the invisible source of all coincidences. 'Chance' and 'destiny' are the interpretative
tools or assumptions that try to explain the causative link between 'coincidence' and 'fate'. The present article aims at highlighting the significance of
'coincidences' that have lead to a series of tragic events in the life of Tess and make the novel seemingly unreasonable but highly impacting on the
minds of the readers.

How Many Coincidences In I Am David
I am David: How many coincidences is too many? Some books are amazingly realistic, while others are idealistic and full of fantasy. I am David is a
mix of both. While it has many coincidences, it has lifelike historical surroundings that make some people consider the book fairly realistic. At the same
time, it includes too much implausibility and has extremely unlikely events. Because of this, the novel is unbelievable and fantasy–like.
Some readers believe the story's serendipities are caused by fate. However, that is a complex solution that does not work with likelihood theories such
as Occam's razor. Occam's razor states that the simplest solution is usually correct. Fate and luck require numerous assumptions and therefore are not
simple.

Longing For The Sea Green Deep
Longing for the Sea Green Deep Love, like anything else, is born irrevocably from chance. The infinite decisions made each day by each person are
what govern the world and it's from this mess, this entanglement of choices that we then make our own. All of human history is wound up in itself,
and no one event can accurately be viewed in isolation. To trace a line from the beginning of time to a single occurrence and describe that chain as
inevitable would be an impossible task. But with this model of coincidence and a fundamental lack of recurrence everything is, as Kundera would put
it, unbearably light. How can we possibly find any meaning, any truth, any beauty in a world filled with insignificances so light that they may as well

As Kundera correctly points out, there's something unbearable in the thought that a love that feels so necessary could just as easily have never
have occurred at all. Tomas gives us two opposing ideas, there's the Es muss sein that he looks for in his love with Tereza, but also the phrase
"Einmal ist keinmal...(What happens but once, might as well have not happened at all)" (8). For Kundera, coincidence is proof of lightness, since the
singularity of experience is lightness, and coincidence betrays that singularity, telling us that in any alternate turn of events (a different coincidence)
things could have gone a different way. He presents two systems, one in which fate controls our actions, and a greater meaning exists, and another in
which our lives are meaningless because of their abrupt and coincidental nature. This second system is the one Kundera tells us exists, but just like
Tereza and Tomas, Kundera tells us we're driven toward the meaning fate provides: "We all reject out of hand the idea that the love of our life may be
something light or weightless; we presume our love is what must be, that without it our life would no longer be the same; we feel that Beethoven
himself, gloomy and awe–inspiring, is playing the 'Es muss sein!' to our own great love" (35). What we want in life, and in love, more than anything

Fate is Predetermined
Charles Dickens' pain in his personal life heavily influenced his writing. In A Tale of Two Cities his suffering coincides with the violence and horrors

He and Darnay's destiny is greatly effected when Carton sees Barsad at the bar and there is foreshadowing of future events when Carton says, "You
have a face to be remembered, and I remember faces well. Made curious by seeing you in that connection, and having a reason, to which you are no
stranger, for associating you with the misfortunes of a friend now very fortunate. (230)" There is dramatic irony in the words "a friend now very
fortunate" because although Darnay's name is condemned, he will be saved because of this encounter (230). The meeting adds suspense because of
the plan Carton is blackmailing Barsad into. The coincidence of seeing Barsad in the bar with Miss Pross essentially seals his own fate. Another
example of coincidence is the uncanny resemblance between Carton and Darnay, which changes both of their futures and goes much deeper than
appearance. Dickens states, "Allowing for my learned friend's appearance being careless and slovenly if not debauched, they were sufficiently like
each other to surprise, not only the witness, but everybody present, when they were thus brought into comparison. (55)" In character, Darnay is
everything that Carton never was but it is fate that allowed Carton to redeem himself for Lucie. There is also a sign of duality in their resemblance
because the uncles' of Darnay were twins. It is ironic that their resemblance saves Darnay

Summary Of Coincidences: Life's Secret Door To Wonder '
The section Coincidences: Life's Secret Door to Wonder was the part of the book that made me feel the happiest. So many times, I have felt the
wonder that coincidences inspire in us if we allow it to. I call it divine intervention, and those are the moments that transcend all else and give us a
glimpse into the beauty of what is beyond our understanding. I am sure there are many skeptics that can argue the rationality of coincidence, but if you
have experienced it there is nothing more real or enlightening than those moments. Huffington (2014) appropriately describes coincidences as life's
reminders to stay in the present and take each moment in. I believe those moments are a gift from God, or whatever force one believes in, that keep

Theme Of Honour Is Love By MГЎrquez
If one were to pinpoint one overriding theme of the narrative, it would be the irony of coincidences. The motive and perpetrator of the real murder
is known to all, and witnessed by many. The Vicario Brothers murder Santiago Nasar, to avenge the spoilt honour of their sister Angelica, whose
virginity he has allegedly deflowered. The real enquiry is about how the murder could happen despite everyone knowing about it, and the numerous
ways it could have been prevented. By some series of coincidental events, the only one who is not warned about the murder of Santiago Nasar, is
Santiago Nasar himself. It is this overlapping of coincidences and exceptions, which can be said to be subject of MГЎrquez' chronicle.
The narrator calls them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
'Honour is love', says the narrator's mother (MГЎrquez). MГЎrquez uses this to draw the reader's attention to the societal codes and cultural constructs
under which the crime occurs. The Vicario brothers are bound by codes of honour, to avenge their sister. As brothers of the victim, they must avenge
the insult to honour. This code of honour is essentially masculine and patriarchal. It projects the women as properties of husbands and fathers, which
must be guarded by the brothers. This inherently misogynistic culture makes 'affairs of honour, sacred monopolies'. By treating it as a monopoly, the
community turns a blind eye on itself. If the
Vicario brothers are mere tools for the community to carry out a sentence decided by the code of honour, then it is the society which bears the burden
of guilt.
MГЎrquez uses the journalistic and investigative style to build the case and slowly reveal facets of the crime, while at the same time makes a subtle
commentary on the society as a cultural unit that influences individual behavior and subsequently, even an individual's fate. He uncovers the theme of
moral obligations as set by societal notions of honour, and uses this as the ball that sets the chain of events in motion, thus making society the actual

Coincidence In Romeo And Juliet
The romantic story of "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare, is about two lovers who are doomed. The Family history between two families
the Montague's and the Capulet's has formed a feud which then foreshadows the events later to come. The personalities of the characters have a
massive impact on the story line as the major events change the play's pace this therefore leads into the working of fate and coincidence this is an
important part in the play as all the little pieces fit and interweave together to make one dramatic and tragic scene in the end. To begin, the feud
contributes massively to the play "Romeo and Juliet" we find this out from the prologue when he says, "Two households, both alike in dignity, From
ancient grudge break to new mutiny." From this we learn that the two households have a bad history together and they never get along. Then at the
opening scenes of the play we see Benvolio from the Montague's fighting Tybalt from the Capulet household, which further proves that they have a
terrible feud. A final incident where Tybalt murders Mercutio in Act III, scene 1 and his dying words were, "A plague o' both your houses!" these

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens Essay
Charles Dickens, the greatest novelist of the Victorian period, is well known for his skillful use of irony in moments of coincidence and chance within
his stories. In one of his most famous books, A Tale of Two Cities, he showcases this skill by forming small connections between various characters
throughout the story. These minute connections end up playing important, plot–twisting roles in the story. Dickens' use of coincidence and chance
weaves and enhances the plot, making readers consider how all of the precise details come into play as the plot thickens and shows that even the
smallest detail can change a person's fate. Dickens' proficient use of irony through chance is shown through detailed character descriptions, the... Show

with Charles Darnay, the man he once hated, to save his life for Lucie's happiness. Therefore, if Sydney Carton had not recognized the parallels
between Charles Darnay and himself, the life of Charles Darnay would not have been spared, and Lucie Manette would have lived a disconsolate
life. However, the fate of the innocent man is soon to be altered by a rekindled relationship between three important people. Charles Darnay's fate is
changed again by an impromptu reunion of a certain brother and sister, John Barsad and Miss Pross. On an afternoon in Paris, Miss Pross, Lucie's
caretaker, and Jerry Cruncher, the honest tradesman, walk through the streets of Paris, and stop by the Defarge's wine–shop on the streets of St.

the wine–shops in Paris, Miss Pross coincidentally ends up in the same wine–shop that her estranged brother John Barsad is in, too. This is an example
of chance because two characters, that have not seen each other in many years, happen to reunite because of one, minute decision on Miss Pross'
preference of wine. Sydney Carton also enters the wine–shop, after following John Barsad from

Mccombs Reflection
I transferred to the University of Texas last semester in hopes to walk in and make impeccable grades and move my way into the McCombs School
of Business. Much to my surprise, my first semester grades fell short of what was needed to even be a competitive applicant for entry to the school.
My parents set me up to first receive a practical degree, such as business, then move on to law school. Coming to the end of my sophomore year,
where all second–year students must declare a major, I became very lost and scared of what I was to do next. Practically, I always had the backup
plan to study economics in the College of Liberal Arts if I didn't get into McCombs, but when that time came, I knew that economics was not in my

A Special Relationship : Coincidence Or Destiney?
A Special Relationship: Coincidence or Destiney?
Throughout the course of our lives we face things that are destined to happen both good and bad. Sometimes our destiny brings us bad luck, we are
diagnosed with a sickness, we lose our jobs, or we are brought to realize the sad reality that, it's just not meant to be. Could this all have been
coincidence? Is it possible that my dad developed heart problems from eating unhealthy foods and not the fact that his mother developed them? Could
it be that I lost my job because it was just time for me to move on and not because my next job would give me a career to develop my skills to be far
more prepared for the road ahead? What if I didn't have the funds to go to Full sail University simply because I just didn't have enough money within
my scholarship and it wasn't just destined for me to eventually end up at Post University ?
I find myself at the mentality by which I'd often like to think that, the things that fall apart in my life and are brought back together far better than I
could have idealized, were just destined to happen. Destiny brings things into our lives that are just inevitably meant to be; well at least that's what I'd
like to think when it comes to my fiancГ© and I. The way we met and the love we share, it is arguably the most destined thing of all things that are
destined. I will be the first to tell you that coincidence has taking its toll on my life but my relationship with my fiancГ©e Kendra is not one that was

Coincidence plays a huge role in the story, as much of the major events in Zhivago's life occur because of coincidence. Coincidence is the driving
force that moves Zhivago and Lara's relationship along, because despite Russia being a vast country, fate continues to bring them together. One

when Yuri and Tonya travel to Varykino and Yuri just happens to see Lara at a library there. The fact that Zhivago carries with him, the image of
Lara's candle in the window, before he even knows Lara, hints that there is some greater plan at work for these characters. But Pasternak's ultimate fate

Agent Causation and Dualism Essay
Agent Causation & Dualism
The discussion of free will and its compatibility with determinism comes down to one's conception of actions. Most philosophers and physicists would
agree that events have specific causes, especially events in nature. The question becomes more controversial when philosophers discuss the interaction
between human beings, or agents, and the world. If one holds the belief that all actions and events are caused by prior events, it would seem as though
he would be accepting determinism. For if an event has a particular cause, the event which follows must be predetermined, even if this cause relates to
a decision by a human being. Agent causation becomes important for many philosophers who, like me, refuse to ... Show more content on

As a firm believer in agent causation and a non–dualist, I'm inclined to reject Pereboom's implication that dualism is a necessity for agent–caused
events. I have reconstructed his argument as follows:
1.The basic physical laws are either deterministic or have objective counterfactual probabilities.
2.Actions that are agent–caused are either consistent with Fundamental Physical Theory or inconsistent with Fundamental Physical Theory.
3.Agent–caused actions can't be inconsistent with basic physical laws.
4.Agent–caused actions are consistent with either
a.Deterministic physical laws; or
b.Indeterministic physical laws with objective counterfactual probabilities. [From 1, 3]
5.If (a) is true then there must be "cosmic coincidences."
6.If (b) is true then there must be "cosmic coincidences."
7.There are no cosmic coincidences.
8.There are no agent–caused actions. [From 4–7]
Pereboom's argument is tricky, but there are two places where I believe it can be dismantled, allowing agent causation to retain plausibility without
accepting dualism. We must grant premise one on the basis of empirical evidence. This premise may or may not be true, but it can only be determined
as a result of scientific study and for the purposes of our argument, it must be taken for granted. Premise two is an obvious logical truth and so its
validity is

Fate In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Could it have been fate? Or could it have been the fault of Romeo and Juliet themselves? In the romantic play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by
William Shakespeare, two star–crossed lover fall in love. However it is not that simple. They go through many challenging obstacles and face many
choices eventually leading to both of their ultimate deaths. Now, back to the question, was it fate, or was it their own fault? The fate seem to
outweigh the human stupidity factors factors by many. But, I believe it all depends on what the reader believes. What I'm saying is that no matter
what someone thinks, human error will always be the cause. What people call fate is merely a coincidence of events and timing with a label one it
"Fate". Overall there are three main examples from the play that show us how human error, coincidence, and misconception was at hand, not fate....

When Romeo sets his eyes upon Juliet, it is not fate that caused him to become "Star–Crossed". No, it was the fact that he was desperate to have
someone to love. Think about it, he just learned that his "One true love" Rosaline said that she would never truly love someone, he was sulking
alone over this for days. But in a blink of an eye he finds another attractive lass that he might have a chance with. It was completely his own fault
that he fell in love with Juliet. It just happened to be a coincidence theat they saw each other when they did. A second example of proof is human
error. When the Friar's messenger got delayed due to the cautious citizens of Mantua. Think about it, the reason he could not pass through the guards
was because they suspected he was sick. The reason being that he "wanted another friar to accompany him". So, even after Friar John instructed to
give the message to Romeo as fast as possible the messenger still went and took time to get the "company". In brief, it was purely the stupidity of the

Fate In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
The word fate can create much confusion when used with the word coincidence. The definition of fate is "the development of events beyond a
person's control," and coincidence, "Remarkable concurrence of events, apparently by chance." Therefore these two words are similar; however,
many people believe that there is no such thing as fate while others think there is no such thing as coincidence. I believe in fate but also believe you
decide your own fate by choices that you chose to make. Romeo And Juliet The classic Elizabethan Tragedy, written by William Shakespeare is a
story of two adolescents who die tragically for love. Throughout the story it appears that fate is what controlled the outcome of the story. But If you

"Marry, my child, early next Thursday morn." (3.5. Line 115) Forced to make a decision Juliet speaks to Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence gives her a
potion that will allow her to fake death until Romeo is able to retrieve her. Friar then sends out an urgent letter addressed to Romeo with Friar John.
But the letter was not able to reach Mantua, where Romeo was residing. "I could not send it, – here it is again, – Nor get a messenger to bring it thee,
so fearful were they of infection. "(5.2. Line 14–17) It states that because of a plague in Mantua no one could travel past the border until it was gone.
This coincidence happened right when the letter was going to be delivered to Romeo. This also being the biggest coincidence throughout the play, the
difference between life and death for the star–crossed lovers. Instead Romeo is given the news that his wife has died. He enters the tomb to find his
love, Juliet , who appeared to be dead, then he killed himself. If fate allowed Juliet to wake up even 2 seconds before Romeo committed suicide, but
that is not what happened. Romeo took his life because he could not bare to live without his love. Juliet killed herself because she couldn't bare the

The Role of God in Miracles
In the Christian faith, miracles are critical and authentic to the Gospels. A miracle is a difficult term to define because it depends on the individual's
perspective and experience. Generally speaking, miracles can be considered to be natural and unnatural acts of God or series of unlikely events
occurring concurrently– coincidences. I believe miracles and coincidences can both be seen as a series of unlikely event, but miracles have a God
component to it. Coincidences on the other hand, do not involve God and are non–existent.
I view miracles and coincidences as epistemic. It is because of our lack of ability to predict the future that when unexpected events occur, they can be
viewed as either coincidences or miracles. For example, if a woman was supposed to die because of a failing immune system by a certain time period,
but lived beyond that time period, then foreseeing the woman's survival was impossible because human knowledge is limited to the present.
Furthermore, this incident can be considered a miracle for a religious person or a coincidence for an atheist. From an atheist point of view, the woman's
survival was due her immune system coincidentally being able able to randomly support life longer than expected –without God's involvement. For a
person of faith, the woman's survival is seen as a miracle because it is an unlikely event that could have only occurred due to God's purposeful
intervention.
I don't believe in coincidences because every instance in life

Film Analysis : Life Is Beautiful, By Roberto Benigni
Film Analysis: Life is Beautiful How does Benigni convey the idea of creativity using coincidence in his film Life is Beautiful? Life is Beautiful
was a film directed by Roberto Benigni that portrayed the journey of a Jewish waiter named Guido who, with his family, suffered through WW2 and
its effects on Jews. The film first highlights how he meets his future wife Dora, and how the family, including their son Giosue, survived through the
war. The film highlights the manner in which they were treated by the Germans and how Guido found his way around situations. He did this both
by using coincidence in his favour and by using past events to creatively avoid sticky situations. The way that benigni conveyed this was quite
remarkable. Benigni conveyed the idea of creativity using coincidence by employing cinematic techniques such as using repetition, fast cutting and
the focus on relevant scenes and objects. Benigni was known for orchestrating great pieces of film that showed the reality of things, but with an
element of humour. One way of showcasing this humour was by using coincidence as a planned convergence of events. An example of this is when
Guido takes Dora home after the night at the cinema. Guido wanted to impress her and he did all he could do to change Dora's view of him. Dora at
one point said that the only way to accomplish this was by using the "key to her heart". And she also mentioned that "heaven knew" where the key was.
And as she said this, the camera

Tess Of The Durbervilles: Coincidences Lead To...
The belief that the order of things is already decided and that people's lives are determined by this "greater power" is called fate. Many
people, called fatalists, believe in this and that they have no power in determining their futures. Despite this, many others believe that coincidence is the
only explanation for the way their lives and others turn out. Thomas Hardy portrays chance and coincidence as having very significant roles in
"Tess of the d'Urbervilles" continuously. Three such coincidences were quite influential and had large effects on Tess's future. The first

the cause of the problem as a result of his thinking or his actions, or is it the problems that seek behind man, since it is ... Show more content on

The fact is that escape from the problem is not a kind of lack of courage, but it may be a tactical withdrawal so that man can gather his strength and
focuses his thinking on how to salvation.
"What would be my wife's mortification when the news was brought that her husband had been eaten by a bear!"I think here is a kind of humor and
fun by the author, which I find unacceptable and illogical here in such dangerous moments. Instead of thinking about survival, he is looking for what
would be told after his death or the scandal that his family will suffer because he was killed by a bear!
Perhaps the author wanted to slightly ease the reader from the tension caused by the story. The writer finally beat the bear and managed to kill him.
This teaches us persistence and patience until we achieve victory and we can overcome the enemy.
The writer then returns to his home as a victor after overcoming his problem and killing the bear. This reflects our sense ofhappiness and pride among
family members, and that one is proud of himself when overcoming his problems. Indeed, this may be one of the reasons for happiness in life, but it is
certain that happiness has many other

Among The Multitude

  • 1. Among The Multitude "Among the multitudes" was written by Wislawa Szymborska. She published her firstpoem in 1945, which started her poetry career. She spent much of her youth advocating for communism, but later become an advocate for free speech and individuality. Her poems exhibit a curious mind, finding joy in even the simplest things, and often have simple yet subtle theme. "Among the Multitudes" reflects this, and exhibits many of the same elements and themes of her other poems such as nature. This poem is a celebration of individuality, as she seeks awareness for the pure uniqueness and coincidental life is. Syzmborska contrasts her individuality as she ponders what her life could have been instead and shows her gratitude for the life she has been given through a series of coincidences and fate. Syzmborska wrote this poem in fourteen stanzas, each containing an interlinked idea connecting them to the coincidences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "What if I'd prompted only fear, loathing, or pity" (32), this stanza shows that even the slightest emotion difference would completely change her existence. "I might have been myself minus amazement, that is, someone completely different". She acknowledges her unique individuality and says that even without her amazement she would be a completely different person all together. Her comparison of true self, to herself with different emotions, or with a slight element of herself shows how human identity is shaped by even the slightest things, and she acknowledges how fortunate she has been, "Fate hate been kind to me, thus far" (36–37). When she looks at her life compared to another being, or even someone slightly different she realizes how lucky she is to have this life, for she "might not have been given the memory of happy moments" ... • 2. "The Monkey's Paw": A Freudian Perspective Essay If "The Monkey's Paw" is uncanny or not is a topic quite debatable, mainly because of the role the reader has in determining the uncertain events which appear in the story. Anyhow, if the story is read according to Freud's point of view of what the uncanny is, the reader can surely state that "The Monkey's Paw" is an uncanny story. There are many elements that are stated in Freud's conception which can be implicitly related to the story, such as the fact of coincidence. But first of all, it is important to clarify what Freud meant by "uncanny" and how this concept is applicable to the story. It is difficult to have an effective approach to what uncanny actually means. Even in Freud's essay "The Uncanny" from Art and Literature, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Freud says, "[. . .] fiction presents more opportunities for creating uncanny feelings than are possible in real life" (374). That is why many other explanations are still reserved, because what the readers are able to understand from a reading, is highly unexpected. These conditions are clearly present in W.W Jacobs' story "The Monkey's Paw." To begin with, the most predominant feeling in the story is the feeling of uncertainty, the doubt for coincidence. Elements such as the death of Herbert and the knocks on the door after wishing for the boy to be alive, can be easily explain as "just coincidences"; there is nothing in the narration itself that can lead the reader to assume that those elements were due to supernatural powers. By taking coincidence as a solution to the stated dilemmas, "The Monkey's Paw" becomes immediately uncanny. Though we face an important feature in this story which is the power the reader has so as to decide what actually happened, the story would not achieve the uncanniness if it weren't for the feeling of fear that are produced by hesitation. In other words, the feelings which are produced by the story before coming to the conclusion that everything happens because of coincidence are a determining fact for "The Monkey's Paw" to be uncanny. For example, almost at the end of this story, the reader faces see a desperate Mrs. White ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tale Of Two Cities Coincidence Essay "It's hard to believe in coincidence, but it's even harder to believe in anything else," (John Green). I believe that the novel A Tale Of Two Cities relies heavily on coincidence, a boring tactic, to further the plot in the story cheapening the story overall. This is shown through Sydney looking very similar to Charles and saving his life, Jerry knowing about the fake funeral that helped make Darnay's case stronger, and by Charles Darnay being the nephew of the Marquis who put his wife's father in jail. Sydney and Charles looking very similar is a very crucial part in the story. However, is highly unlikely and in my opinion takes away from the story. Sydney uses the fact that they look so similar to acquit Darnay of his accused crimes of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that Dickens used this as a tactic to show a them through the story. I thought that the theme he was trying to convey with this is the theme of resurrection (which is also shown many other times within the story) by showing that the Marquis may have been his uncle but, his good side was resurrected in the family. However, this coincidence makes the drastic differences between him and his uncle seem minor due to the fact that it was just a "coincidence". This makes the theme less prevalent and much harder to pick up on. Due to resurrection being one of the main themes of the book I feel that it being shown like this, as a little bit of irony, when it was actually a large thing that could have been played off to making it easily shown and interesting it was just more or less swept off to the side and not touched as much as it should have been. The coincidence used in this situation majorly affected a possible story outcome making it more interesting and dramatic. However, this was just another example of coincidence cheapening the not just the story but of the story's main themes, which helps you interpret the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Charles Dickens ' Tale Of Two Cities Fated Coincidences Charles Dickens was a distinguished writer during the 1800s and was inspired by Thomas Carlyle's book French Revolution. Dickens was influenced by this book to write his novel Tale of Two Cities. Even though he wrote the book seventy years after the French Revolution, he studied many different books from two wagons from Carlyle which he sent as a joke. Throughout the book Tale of Two Cities, Dickens has a recurring theme of fate. Dickens illustrates that everyone's lives are predetermined through coincidence shown in the characters Sydney Carton's resemblance of Darnay, Doctor Manette's forgotten prosecution of the EvrГ©mondes, and Madame Defarge's broken family, resulting from the EvrГ©mondes. Carton's life is fated because of the coincidence that Carton and Darnay are doppelgГ¤ngers. One example of when this coincidence is useful is when Carton confounds the anonymous witness' case. In the courtroom, Darnay is being tried for treason. An anonymous witness is cross–examined by Stryver stating he clearly saw Darnay." 'and then look well upon the prisoner. How say you? Are they very like each other?' Allowing for my learned friend's appearance being careless and slovenly if not debauched, they were sufficiently like each other to surprise not only the witness, but everybody present, when they were thus brought into comparison" (Dickens 55–56). Carton tells Stryver to compare each other to prove that the witness could have seen anyone like Darnay. Carton ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The 's Usage Of Chance And Coincidence As The Mode Of... Lermontov's usage of chance and coincidence as the mode of expression of fate can be seen explicitly in "Princess Mary" and "The Fatalist," both short stories from Pechorin's journal. "Princess Mary" retells the story of the time that Pechorin spent in the town of Pyatigorsk, a spa town located in the Caucases. In Pyatigorsk, Pechorin encounters an old acquaintance of his, Grushnitsky, who Pechorin secretly dislikes despite his veil of friendship. Also present in the town are Princess Ligovskaya and her daughter, the titular Princess Mary. Princess Ligovskaya and Princess Mary are very wealthy and normally live in Moscow, where they live as eminent socialites. Grushnitsky is instantly captivated by the young Princess Mary and gradually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pechorin, now anxious at the probability of his survival, loses the toss and thus stations himself on the edge of the cliff. Pechorin, now doubting that he will survive, gazes upon Grushnitsky with a degree of aristocratic fear, waiting for Grushnitsky to shoot. However as Grushnitsky stands just six paces from the unarmed Pechorin, he loses his resolve to kill and exclaims, "I can't do it"(Lermontov 123). Yet he turns back toward Pechorin and fires capriciously, merely grazing Pechorin's knee and causing him no harm. Knowing that Grushnitsky's second did not load his pistol, Pechorin has the pistol loaded and proceeds to kill the unrepentant Grushnitsky. Chance and Coincidence are thus used by Lermontov as the mode of expression of Fate in "Princess Mary." It was not fated for Pechorin to die at the hand of Grushnitsky, thus chance compelled Grushnitsky to lose his will to kill Pechorin. Additionally, chance causes Grushnitsky's random shot at Pechorin to merely graze Pechorin's leg. Because Pechorin was not predestined to die in this duel, everything unfolded precisely the way it needed to in order to insure Pechorin's continued well–being. Conversely, the events of the duel occurred in such a way that assured Grushnitsky's death, illustrating his predestination to die during the duel. Firstly, Pechorin would not have been able to shoot Grushnitsky if he did not know that a bullet had not been loaded into his gun. Pechorin only gained ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Examples Of Coincidence In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Introduction Hook– Sometimes circumstances align with one another perfectly and cause an event which would never have occurred otherwise. There are many words which describe such an occurrence, such as a coincide, a fluke, or even fate. Coincidence is as defined by the Merriam–Webster Dictionary is "the occurrence of events that happen at the same time by accident but seem to have some connection". Bridge– Acoincidence is a perfect way to describe why certain specific circumstances aligned to allow for the death of Santiago Nasar, a character from Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez. Quick Book Summary: In the book Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez, the murder of Santiago Nasar was investigated. After Angela Vicario was returned to her family by her recently wed husband for not being a virgin, her mother sets her sons out on a mission to kill who took it. Angela revealed Santiago took her virginity, and many circumstances would follow where his death could have been prevented, yet in the end, he was brutally murdered on his own doorstep ... This was yet another missed opportunity to save Santiago. While the Vicario brothers dealt the final blow, certain circumstances aligned which allowed Santiago to be perfectly unaware and unprepared. The author choice to repeatedly have these coincidences brings forth the almost ridiculousness of Santiago's death. Even the judge in the story mocks the case, going as far as to call it illegitimate "that life should make use of so many coincidences" (MГЎrquez, 99). MГЎrquez forces the reader to truly see the absurd nature in which Santiago died and goes as far to point it out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis of the Success of Huawei: Coincidence or... Analysis of the Success of Huawei: Coincidence or Consequence? Abstract This paper analyzes the success of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., one of the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturers in China. This paper applies two prevalent organizational theories: the ecological and evolutionary approach and the resource–based view, to interpret the causes of the success of Huawei. Based on the strength and weakness analysis of each theory in the explanation of the same phenomenon, the resource–based view is recommended as a more effective theory to examine the organization structure and business strategies. Introduction Established in 1998, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. has become one of the largest telecommunications... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The marketing demand was sliding downslope, many large telecom equipments manufactures such as Nortel and Lucent faced the threat of financial deficit, numerous medium and small sized telecom firms broke up. While even during such a hard time, Huawei was still growing steadily. So we had to conclude that there must be something distinct inside Huawei that accounts for its success. Since 1999, Huawei was among the first Chinese telecom companies who decided to explore the overseas market, while at that time the domestic market was still huge and profitable. The cost of the exploration of the overseas market had been very high and the gains out of the first two years were comparably so insignificant. Chart II Sales of Wireless Products ($USD Million) From the above chart, we can see that even in the first three years of exploration of overseas wireless market, there was no indication of success. But Huawei endured and insisted in this strategy. According to the evolutionary theory, it is hard to explain why Huawei would make this strategic decision when the domestic market is still abundant. In the meanwhile, without analyzing the internal mechanism of Huawei's decision making, it is also hard to explain how Huawei could endure three years of "failure" (Here I mean negative profit during this time) to cheer the final success. It has been influential in finding the cure for many diseases including Alzheimer's and cancer. The positron emitting glucose analog, 18F–fluoro–2–deoxyglucose (FDG) has helped in the diagnosis, staging, and monitoring therapeutic response in various cancers. The metabolic imaging assessment is very helpful in providing important clinical data which in turn improves the patient management [6]. It is proved that the FDG–PET scan has better sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy when compared to CT imaging in most cancer patients. The advantages of PET over other molecular imaging techniques are detailed in the following sections. 3.1 Advantages 3.1.1 Sensitivity The most important advantage of PET imaging is it's ability to exhibit a higher sensitivity (detecting and recording more number of emitted events) when compared to other methods such as SPECT, in which physical collimators are required to reject photons, which are not within a defined angular range. Hence the collimators have lower geometric efficiencies i.e. the percentage of detecting emitting photons (0.01%) [7]. 3.1.2 Coincidence Detection in PET Due to the annihilation event in PET, there is no need to employ physical collimators. The collimation is done electronically using the coincidence detection method. This in turn increases the angle of acceptance and hence the number of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All she could think about was the extra ten minutes she spent in bed that morning and whether or not it was worth it. While she was rushing around trying to feed the dog, brush her hair and get her lunch ready for the day, she decided it was worth it. She really needed the extra sleep and it felt good to take a few minutes for herself. Paige has been going to school full time, working at the agency full time and studying for her last few finals. She only had a few more days until she was finally finished with her master degree and she would be done with school after six very long years. Slowly and steadily stealing into our lives like a shadowy hoard from the burning bowels of the earth, the fiery debate on gun control threatens to rend our country in two. Both sides often point deadly fingers at motives and character instead of arguments. Beliefs, founded and unfounded, range widely across the board. On one side of this treacherous issue, Mark Follman penned an article for Mother Jones titled "More Guns, More Mass Shootings – Coincidence?" in an attempt to destroy the pro–gun position. Interestingly, Switzerland also boasts an extremely low gun violence rate. By training our civilians, those immediately present at shootings, we could end some of these sickeningly barbaric attacks sooner. Unsurprisingly, however, Follman either refuses to acknowledge or conceals this fact. Coincidences In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet Throughout the play "Romeo and Juliet" there are multiple coincidences such as Romeo's love for Rosaline, his encounter with the illiterate servant, and the moment he set his eyes on Juliet. Many events in the story would have been alters if these coincidences had not been present and show they played an important role in aiding the story's progression. One of which would be when Romeo fell in love and was rejected by Rosaline, a member of the Capulet family. Had Romeo not confessed his love to Rosaline he would not have been rejected and therefore no reason to sneak into the Capulet's masquerade as he only did so in order to win her heart back. Another possibility is that she could have reciprocated his feelings and the story would have simply ended at that. But because it did occur, Romeo and Juliet were able to meet. I Think Ironic While the Victorian people called for romantic intrigue and petty drama in the literature of their time, Dickens' added complexity to his novels not to satisfy the frivolous needs of Victorians but to further the theme of irony in his novel. In A Tale of Two Cities, irony is an ever–present theme and is woven into the plot seamlessly by author Charles Dickens. Coincidence is a complementary theme to irony in this novel. Dickens' constant implementation of situations of coincidence and chance leads to a greater sense of irony throughout this book. Dickens adds complexity to the plot and further enforces the theme of irony in the novel through circumstances of coincidence, including the indictments of Charles Darnay, the life and associates of Dr. Manette, and Madame Defarge's need for and path to revenge. Throughout the course of this novel, the ironically kind and generous Charles Darnay is indicted three times, and on each occasion, the basis for the accusations against him and the surrounding circumstances derive entirely from coincidence and chance. At Darnay's first trial in London where he has been accused of treason, Jerry Cruncher spots Lucie Manette and Dr. Manette seated in the courthouse and inquires about their purpose for attendance and receiving the response "'Witnesses.' / 'For which side?'/ 'Against.'/ 'Against what side?'/ 'The prisoner'" (Dickens 48). • 18. Theme Of Coincidence In Tess Of D Urbervilles Significance of Coincidences in Hardy's Novel Tess of D'urbervilles ABSTRACT: Hardy's novels often appeal to the readers on account of the philosophy of life that they offer. To be more precise and direct, the readers' response depends on the philosophy of life as they receive from the novels. Most often the discussion happens on why and how Hardy constructs his plots leaning more on to 'Fate', 'Destiny', 'Chance' and 'Coincidence'. When we put these terms in a proper perspective for better understanding, any incidence is a coincidence as it happens due to chance and it is received as destiny which is the imposition of fate. So, one way of understanding is that 'coincidence' is the visible manifestation of fate and 'fate' is the invisible source of all coincidences. 'Chance' and 'destiny' are the interpretative tools or assumptions that try to explain the causative link between 'coincidence' and 'fate'. The present article aims at highlighting the significance of 'coincidences' that have lead to a series of tragic events in the life of Tess and make the novel seemingly unreasonable but highly impacting on the minds of the readers. All of human history is wound up in itself, and no one event can accurately be viewed in isolation. To trace a line from the beginning of time to a single occurrence and describe that chain as inevitable would be an impossible task. As Kundera correctly points out, there's something unbearable in the thought that a love that feels so necessary could just as easily have never have occurred at all. Tomas gives us two opposing ideas, there's the Es muss sein that he looks for in his love with Tereza, but also the phrase "Einmal ist keinmal...(What happens but once, might as well have not happened at all)" (8). For Kundera, coincidence is proof of lightness, since the singularity of experience is lightness, and coincidence betrays that singularity, telling us that in any alternate turn of events (a different coincidence) things could have gone a different way. He presents two systems, one in which fate controls our actions, and a greater meaning exists, and another in which our lives are meaningless because of their abrupt and coincidental nature. This second system is the one Kundera tells us exists, but just like Tereza and Tomas, Kundera tells us we're driven toward the meaning fate provides: "We all reject out of hand the idea that the love of our life may be something light or weightless; we presume our love is what must be, that without it our life would no longer be the same; we feel that Beethoven himself, gloomy and awe–inspiring, is playing the 'Es muss sein!' to our own great love" (35). The meeting adds suspense because of the plan Carton is blackmailing Barsad into. The coincidence of seeing Barsad in the bar with Miss Pross essentially seals his own fate. Another example of coincidence is the uncanny resemblance between Carton and Darnay, which changes both of their futures and goes much deeper than appearance. Dickens states, "Allowing for my learned friend's appearance being careless and slovenly if not debauched, they were sufficiently like each other to surprise, not only the witness, but everybody present, when they were thus brought into comparison. 'Honour is love', says the narrator's mother (MГЎrquez). MГЎrquez uses this to draw the reader's attention to the societal codes and cultural constructs under which the crime occurs. The Vicario brothers are bound by codes of honour, to avenge their sister. As brothers of the victim, they must avenge the insult to honour. This code of honour is essentially masculine and patriarchal. It projects the women as properties of husbands and fathers, which must be guarded by the brothers. This inherently misogynistic culture makes 'affairs of honour, sacred monopolies'. By treating it as a monopoly, the community turns a blind eye on itself. If the Vicario brothers are mere tools for the community to carry out a sentence decided by the code of honour, then it is the society which bears the burden of guilt. MГЎrquez uses the journalistic and investigative style to build the case and slowly reveal facets of the crime, while at the same time makes a subtle commentary on the society as a cultural unit that influences individual behavior and subsequently, even an individual's fate. That really got me to think about changing into a career where I could help children. I have always considered studying family law but never thought of pursuing an undergrad degree in social work. I had also never met anyone who was working on a social work degree little less know that UT had a whole college dedicated to the study of social work. The synchronicity of my concerns for my student and my friends' situation, allowed me to have a revelation in my career path, which was something I was really struggling with at the ... Throughout the course of our lives we face things that are destined to happen both good and bad. Sometimes our destiny brings us bad luck, we are diagnosed with a sickness, we lose our jobs, or we are brought to realize the sad reality that, it's just not meant to be. Could this all have been coincidence? Is it possible that my dad developed heart problems from eating unhealthy foods and not the fact that his mother developed them? Could it be that I lost my job because it was just time for me to move on and not because my next job would give me a career to develop my skills to be far more prepared for the road ahead? What if I didn't have the funds to go to Full sail University simply because I just didn't have enough money within my scholarship and it wasn't just destined for me to eventually end up at Post University ? I find myself at the mentality by which I'd often like to think that, the things that fall apart in my life and are brought back together far better than I could have idealized, were just destined to happen. Destiny brings things into our lives that are just inevitably meant to be; well at least that's what I'd like to think when it comes to my fiancГ© and I. The way we met and the love we share, it is arguably the most destined thing of all things that are destined. I will be the first to tell you that coincidence has taking its toll on my life but my relationship with my fiancГ©e Kendra is not one that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Zhivago's Coincidence Coincidence plays a huge role in the story, as much of the major events in Zhivago's life occur because of coincidence. Coincidence is the driving force that moves Zhivago and Lara's relationship along, because despite Russia being a vast country, fate continues to bring them together. One example of this is when Yuri and Lara are randomly sent to work at the same hospital during World War I. Coincidence again plays in their favor when Yuri and Tonya travel to Varykino and Yuri just happens to see Lara at a library there. The fact that Zhivago carries with him, the image of Lara's candle in the window, before he even knows Lara, hints that there is some greater plan at work for these characters. • 32. Agent Causation and Dualism Essay Agent Causation & Dualism The discussion of free will and its compatibility with determinism comes down to one's conception of actions. Most philosophers and physicists would agree that events have specific causes, especially events in nature. The question becomes more controversial when philosophers discuss the interaction between human beings, or agents, and the world. If one holds the belief that all actions and events are caused by prior events, it would seem as though he would be accepting determinism. For if an event has a particular cause, the event which follows must be predetermined, even if this cause relates to a decision by a human being. Agent causation becomes important for many philosophers who, like me, refuse to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a firm believer in agent causation and a non–dualist, I'm inclined to reject Pereboom's implication that dualism is a necessity for agent–caused events. I have reconstructed his argument as follows: 1.The basic physical laws are either deterministic or have objective counterfactual probabilities. 2.Actions that are agent–caused are either consistent with Fundamental Physical Theory or inconsistent with Fundamental Physical Theory. 3.Agent–caused actions can't be inconsistent with basic physical laws. 4.Agent–caused actions are consistent with either a.Deterministic physical laws; or b.Indeterministic physical laws with objective counterfactual probabilities. [From 1, 3] 5.If (a) is true then there must be "cosmic coincidences." 6.If (b) is true then there must be "cosmic coincidences." 7.There are no cosmic coincidences. 8.There are no agent–caused actions. [From 4–7] Pereboom's argument is tricky, but there are two places where I believe it can be dismantled, allowing agent causation to retain plausibility without accepting dualism. We must grant premise one on the basis of empirical evidence. This premise may or may not be true, but it can only be determined as a result of scientific study and for the purposes of our argument, it must be taken for granted. Premise two is an obvious logical truth and so its validity is

Coincidences In Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown "Young Goodman Brown" #5 Many coincidences in "Young Goodman Brown" are put there by the Author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, to turn the entire story into a metaphor. The first of which is Goodman Brown's wife's name, Faith. Hawthorne could have chosen a name such as Mary, but Faith gives the story another level of meaning. Then, when Goodman Brown goes on his journey, he happens to come across the two travelers in the forest. The meeting of these two initiates the test of Goodman Brown's faith to God. He travels deep into the woods and is tempted with information of his neighbors and friends as well as with riches by the traveler. Although the appearance of Faith's ribbon deep in the woods to Goodman Brown may be impossible, it does resolve the story and prove to him that leaving was a mistake. #10 The entire story is based on a Goodman Brown's ... The hunter is an example of a conflict of Man vs. Nature. The white color of the heron that the man wished to find could represent her innocence and purity. • 35. Fate In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet Could it have been fate? Or could it have been the fault of Romeo and Juliet themselves? In the romantic play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, two star–crossed lover fall in love. However it is not that simple. They go through many challenging obstacles and face many choices eventually leading to both of their ultimate deaths. Now, back to the question, was it fate, or was it their own fault? The fate seem to outweigh the human stupidity factors factors by many. But, I believe it all depends on what the reader believes. What I'm saying is that no matter what someone thinks, human error will always be the cause. What people call fate is merely a coincidence of events and timing with a label one it "Fate". Overall there are three main examples from the play that show us how human error, coincidence, and misconception was at hand, not fate.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Romeo sets his eyes upon Juliet, it is not fate that caused him to become "Star–Crossed". No, it was the fact that he was desperate to have someone to love. Think about it, he just learned that his "One true love" Rosaline said that she would never truly love someone, he was sulking alone over this for days. But in a blink of an eye he finds another attractive lass that he might have a chance with. It was completely his own fault that he fell in love with Juliet. It just happened to be a coincidence theat they saw each other when they did. A second example of proof is human error. When the Friar's messenger got delayed due to the cautious citizens of Mantua. Think about it, the reason he could not pass through the guards was because they suspected he was sick. The reason being that he "wanted another friar to accompany him". So, even after Friar John instructed to give the message to Romeo as fast as possible the messenger still went and took time to get the "company". In brief, it was purely the stupidity of the ... The definition of fate is "the development of events beyond a person's control," and coincidence, "Remarkable concurrence of events, apparently by chance." Therefore these two words are similar; however, many people believe that there is no such thing as fate while others think there is no such thing as coincidence. I believe in fate but also believe you decide your own fate by choices that you chose to make. But the letter was not able to reach Mantua, where Romeo was residing. "I could not send it, – here it is again, – Nor get a messenger to bring it thee, so fearful were they of infection. "(5.2. This also being the biggest coincidence throughout the play, the difference between life and death for the star–crossed lovers. Instead Romeo is given the news that his wife has died. He enters the tomb to find his love, Juliet , who appeared to be dead, then he killed himself. If fate allowed Juliet to wake up even 2 seconds before Romeo committed suicide, but that is not what happened. Romeo took his life because he could not bare to live without his love. • 37. The Role of God in Miracles In the Christian faith, miracles are critical and authentic to the Gospels. A miracle is a difficult term to define because it depends on the individual's perspective and experience. Generally speaking, miracles can be considered to be natural and unnatural acts of God or series of unlikely events occurring concurrently– coincidences. I believe miracles and coincidences can both be seen as a series of unlikely event, but miracles have a God component to it. Coincidences on the other hand, do not involve God and are non–existent. I view miracles and coincidences as epistemic. It is because of our lack of ability to predict the future that when unexpected events occur, they can be viewed as either coincidences or miracles. For example, if a woman was supposed to die because of a failing immune system by a certain time period, but lived beyond that time period, then foreseeing the woman's survival was impossible because human knowledge is limited to the present. Furthermore, this incident can be considered a miracle for a religious person or a coincidence for an atheist. From an atheist point of view, the woman's survival was due her immune system coincidentally being able able to randomly support life longer than expected –without God's involvement. For a person of faith, the woman's survival is seen as a miracle because it is an unlikely event that could have only occurred due to God's purposeful intervention. I don't believe in coincidences because every instance in life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This information presents itself to the audience through character lines, none more visible than V's conversation with Dr. Delia. V says that "there are no coincidences, Delia. • 39. Film Analysis : Life Is Beautiful, By Roberto Benigni Film Analysis: Life is Beautiful How does Benigni convey the idea of creativity using coincidence in his film Life is Beautiful? Life is Beautiful was a film directed by Roberto Benigni that portrayed the journey of a Jewish waiter named Guido who, with his family, suffered through WW2 and its effects on Jews. The film first highlights how he meets his future wife Dora, and how the family, including their son Giosue, survived through the war. The film highlights the manner in which they were treated by the Germans and how Guido found his way around situations. He did this both by using coincidence in his favour and by using past events to creatively avoid sticky situations. The way that benigni conveyed this was quite remarkable. Benigni conveyed the idea of creativity using coincidence by employing cinematic techniques such as using repetition, fast cutting and the focus on relevant scenes and objects. Benigni was known for orchestrating great pieces of film that showed the reality of things, but with an element of humour. One way of showcasing this humour was by using coincidence as a planned convergence of events. An example of this is when Guido takes Dora home after the night at the cinema. Guido wanted to impress her and he did all he could do to change Dora's view of him. Dora at one point said that the only way to accomplish this was by using the "key to her heart". And she also mentioned that "heaven knew" where the key was. And as she said this, the camera ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Tess Of The Durbervilles: Coincidences Lead To... The belief that the order of things is already decided and that people's lives are determined by this "greater power" is called fate. Many people, called fatalists, believe in this and that they have no power in determining their futures. Despite this, many others believe that coincidence is the only explanation for the way their lives and others turn out. Thomas Hardy portrays chance and coincidence as having very significant roles in "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" continuously. Three such coincidences were quite influential and had large effects on Tess's future. The first being that Tess Durbeyfield's father, discovered that their family came from the oldest, (and at one time) most wealthiest family in England.... This single decision, of sending Tess to the d'Urberville, and making her leave the sheltered life and town of Marlott that she had known for so long would be the change in her life that would lead to so many other events for her. Had Tess not been sent to the d'Urberville home, she would not have met Alec nor would she have bore his child out of wedlock and her life would have been completely different. After her son died, Tess's shame overtook her and she left her birthplace of Marlott to find work at a dairy called Talbothay's. Here, she told nothing of her past and only came to work, where the surroundings were peaceful, calm and quite lush in vegetation. The author may have written this story for other reasons, but at least I understand it in a different way and will work on a conceptual analysis of it. I drew attention to this sentence mentioned by the writer in the first section " The encounter was unpremeditated on both sides. I was not hunting for a bear, and I have no reason to suppose that a bear was looking for me."Because on the assumption that the bear is a symbol of the problem and the narrator a symbol of man, the important question is: Does man seek the cause of the problem as a result of his thinking or his actions, or is it the problems that seek behind man, since it is ... "What would be my wife's mortification when the news was brought that her husband had been eaten by a bear!"I think here is a kind of humor and fun by the author, which I find unacceptable and illogical here in such dangerous moments. Instead of thinking about survival, he is looking for what would be told after his death or the scandal that his family will suffer because he was killed by a bear! This reflects our sense ofhappiness and pride among family members, and that one is proud of himself when overcoming his problems.
