3. Images
When designing the front cover, it had to be important to be expressive and grab the attention of any audience at
first, because when a magazine is competing against other magazines on the shelf, to make a magazine sell it has to
stand out, so this is why i used a expressive and controversial image as my main focal point, as it will question the
readers and will make them think, meaning they will automatically want to read more into the magazine, and gain a
understanding of why the image has been used.
The images is also different to al the other magazines, a typical portrait mid shot of the person, gaining a
understanding of the person and has a insight into what their like, there is also no angle on many of the shot because
it wants to seem impartial, having no feeling for the person.
With the image which is been used, it shows a downward angle as if we are
looking down on the person, feeling sorry for them, having an emotional
attachment, and with the image been different and in black a white, it shows a
urban feeling to the image, urban which is related to hip hop and with the
costume which is been worn in the image relates to the current fashion and
would entice the hip hop audience, also as this is a hip hop images is within the
hip hop style the audience would already know what genre of music it is related
to, meaning time wouldn't be wasted and audience wouldn't be lost because of
the unknown genre of music, meaning people would pass the magazine by as a
different genre of music.
The texture of the magazine been in black and white, and with the NYC baseball
cap on with the American flag in colour also represents the genre of music, no
other mainstream music genre wears baseball caps to an extreme and so widely
associated with hip hop, so as a company incorporating a baseball cap, the
audience will associate it with a hip hop.
4. Font and Colours

5. Been relevant to the current genre
• When making a magazine it has to be up to date
with the current scene and include many of the
information that the audience wants to read, i.e.
You don't want to read the last weeks paper
today, you already heard the information through
other people, so the whole point of been
‘current’ is to keep the audience interested and
keep them keen, so by attracting the
audience, with the names of current artists out it
will attract the wider ‘pop’ market but also the
real hip hop fans with artist which have only
brought out mixtapes.
