Singapore Airlines was formed in 1972 after Singapore separated from Malaysia. It began operations with 10 aircraft, 6,000 employees, and routes to 22 cities in 18 countries. As a new airline, it had high fixed costs and was regulated by IATA, but had lower labor costs than other IATA carriers. Singapore Airlines is now a major global airline based in Singapore, operating out of Changi Airport with a focus on Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, and the "Kangaroo Route". Its vision is to be an excellent global company that enhances people's lives and preserves the environment.
