How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
Any particular social group?
• My media product represents a particular social group, as my magazine is
typically related to those groups of people who listen to heavy music as
my magazine is based around the genre metal. The types of people
represented within my magazine wear a lot of dark clothing, such as black
skinny jeans and bands t-shirts. This type of social group tends to be easily
noticeable, as they have quite a strong, bald and possibly
intimidating appearance although they do not wear bright colours, the
harsh appearances is what makes them stand out.
This is an image of a typical group of
metal fans, as you can see the
majority of them are wearing black
band shirts, have long hair and
other dark clothing. These groups of
teenagers stereotypically look
rebellious and intimidating.
• Not only does my front cover represent a particular social group but so
does my contents page, as the two other models I have used are both
dressed in dark clothing, the female model I have used is dressed in a
black corset, she has long dark brown hair which is suitable for this social
group also I have made her do the horns sign which is common within the
genre, this way the genre is quickly recognised. My last model I have
dressed in a dark blazer, white shirt and black tie although this isn't
commonly recognised in the genre and this particular social group, I
thought I would add a twist to the genre, even though the model if not
wear a band shirt and battle jacket, he does have very dark hair and I have
made his eyes darker by using eye linger, which is sometimes worn by
band members by doing this I have made my model look more bald and
stand out which will draw in the attention of the audience as it won't be
plain.

Social group: males.
• The males of this social group typically are known to have long hair which is either
brunette or even black, however there are some exceptions as some males prefer
to be bald rather than having long hair, this also gives them a rough look to their
appearance. Although this may be a stereotypical view of this type of social
group, the majority of the people to tend to have long hair. As a result of this, my
media product represents this group of males and females, who I have dressed in
black clothing for an example on my front cover I have formed a band of four
males, each male is wearing black skinny jeans and a dark shirt besides one male
in the middle, however I have made him wear a battle jacket which is common for
those in this social group. Each male on the front cover has long hair, which is
associated with the metal genre, also they all have dark hair.
