The goal of this Slideshare is to introduce new
professionals and recent graduates in K-12
Education wanting to grow their own network and
professional online presence by building their own
Personal Learning Network.
Over the next five weeks you will be adding a key
dimension to growing your own PLN which
includes: Key People, Resources, Tools and
Interactions
3. Week 1: Find and Add Key PeopleWeek 1: Find and Add Key People
Every industry or profession has key influencers with
many of them having an online presence. The K-12
professional community has tremendous PLN growth
potential for College of Education Graduates who are
interested in online teaching.
Start with making a list of key faculty and teachers and
fellow graduates in your cohort with whom you may
have had contact with during your pre-service
teaching or placements.
Next go to Linked In and create an account if you do
not already have one. Now search for those you have
identified on your list... The PLN begins!
4. Week 2: Key PLN ResourcesWeek 2: Key PLN Resources
By locating key influencers and network
professionals in Week 1, you can now start to
identify key resources to grow your PLN. Your K-
12 network will often post and share their finds on
Linked In or other social media, so start saving
those links for later use!
This week, locate 5 items listed from posted items
in your Linked In network you found from key
people or the search function on Linked In. Now
save them in a favorites folder for later use...
5. Week 3: Tools For Your PLNWeek 3: Tools For Your PLN
This week you will explore 3 tools commonly used
by experienced K-12 practitioners, who are
exemplary in their field and will help you to grow
your professional network using content and
curation networking tools.

6. Week 4: Interactions to ImproveWeek 4: Interactions to Improve
Your PLNYour PLN
This week you will focus on your
interactions within your new PLN. Try
sharing your new found resources, links, or
even your network of professionals by
creating a Springpad list, blog (Wordpress,
Blogger etc), or even a news feed item
within your Linked In account that links a
few of the resources you have found useful.
7. Week 5: Add More People andWeek 5: Add More People and
ResourcesResources
During this final week, you should reflect by posting to
a blog on your new found skill and continuing to grow
your network., Consider adding 2-3 new connections
on Linked In by adding connections, endorsing your
colleagues, or even posting 5 more useful classroom
resources (curated links) on your newly created
Springpad account.
[TIP] By following key K-12 groups and on Linked in
will add quality content and newsworthy event and
people to your network, so try and log in at least 2-3
times a week!

By introducing yourself into different professional
social networks and identifying key individuals in K-12
education, you will slowly grow your online presence
in a professional and engaging way.
By sharing and networking with other K-12 educators
you will find you are not alone and you will begin to
see positive growth in you ability to find, share and
interact with your peers in a most meaningful way.
