When considering flash storage, there are many misconceptions and outright myths. Especially when equating consumer-grade flash (USB sticks) to enterprise-grade SSDs. In this webinar SanDisk Chief Architect, Adam Roberts, will discuss 5 myths of flash storage and highlight what you need to look out for when choosing a storage device to accelerate your data center storage. This webinar will cover:
1.Data Protection
2.Power Fail Protection
3.Temperature Throttling/Overheating
4.QoS for Performance
5.SSD Endurance
Stay tuned for future webinars which will look at the benefits of flash beyond performance…busting a few more myths on flash.

Supermicro, Intel®, and Varnish are delivering an optimized CDN solution built with the Intel Xeon-D processor in a Supermicro Superserver running Varnish Enterprise. This solution delivers strong performance in a compact form factor with low idle power and excellent performance per watt.
Join Supermicro, Intel, and Varnish experts as they discuss their collaboration and how their respective technologies work together to improve the performance and lower the TCO of an edge caching server.
The flash market started out monolithically. Flash was a single media type (high performance, high endurance SLC flash). Flash systems also had a single purpose of accelerating the response time of high-end databases. But now there are several flash options. Users can choose between high performance flash or highly dense, medium performance flash systems. At the same time, high capacity hard disk drives are making a case to be the archival storage medium of choice. How does an IT professional choose?
Next to performance and scalability, cost efficiency is one of the top three reasons most companies cite as their motivations for acquiring storage technology. Businesses are struggling to control the storage costs, and to reduce OPEX costs for administrative staff, infrastructure and data management, and environmental and energy. Every storage vendor, it seems, including most of the Software-defined Storage purveyors, are promising ROIs that require nothing short of a suspension of disbelief.
In this presentation, Jon Toigo of the Data Management Institute digs out the root causes of high storage costs and sketches out a prescription for addressing them. He is joined by Ibrahim “Ibby” Rahmani of DataCore Software, who will address the specific cost efficiency advantages that are being realized by customers of Software-defined Storage
Today Micron announced the production of 8GB DDR4 NVDIMM, the company’s first commercially available solution in the persistent memory category. Persistent memory delivers a unique balance of latency, bandwidth, capacity and cost, delivering ultra-fast DRAM-like access to critical data and allowing system designers to better manage overall costs. With persistent memory, system architects are no longer forced to sacrifice latency and bandwidth when accessing critical data that must be preserved.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

The infamous Mallox is the digital Robin Hoods of our time, except they steal from everyone and give to themselves. Since mid-2021, they've been playing hide and seek with unsecured Microsoft SQL servers, encrypting data, and then graciously offering to give it back for a modest Bitcoin donation.
Mallox decided to go shopping for new malware toys, adding the Remcos RAT, BatCloak, and a sprinkle of Metasploit to their collection. They're now playing a game of "Catch me if you can" with antivirus software, using their FUD obfuscator packers to turn their ransomware into the digital equivalent of a ninja.

This document provides a analysis of the Target Company ransomware group, also known as Smallpox, which has been rapidly evolving since its first identification in June 2021.
The analysis delves into various aspects of the group's operations, including its distinctive practice of appending targeted organizations' names to encrypted files, the evolution of its encryption algorithms, and its tactics for establishing persistence and evading defenses.
The insights gained from this analysis are crucial for informing defense strategies and enhancing preparedness against such evolving cyber threats.
