• It is a manually operated wheelchair that can travel on both plane
terrains and also in the staircases
• In this Project instead of using normal wheel, a special type of
wheel called penta wheel is used in array formation inclined at 72
degree from each other.
•At the time of climbing, one wheel that is the idle wheel will be in
contact with the ground and another wheel will be in contact
with the stair.

wheel-leg units, containing three orbital wheels each, but only two
units need traction

Gear mechanism is an integral part of the system for controlling the
direction and speed

•Vardaan is a simplest and safest mechanism of climbing stairs
without any support of external device
• Using this a person can climb stairs in sitting position by dragging
the body weight upward or downward on hands by rowing motion
• It has a pair of rolling wheel and Y-Shaped wheel. A Y-shaped
wheel is designed for better grip and optimum braking for climbing
up and down

•The wheel chair lift is new invention for transporting a disabled
person between floors. The driving mechanism for this stair lift
includes one guide rail parallel to a stairway, a moveable carrier
frame suspended from the guide rails has a platform to carry
disabled person in wheel chair.
•The suspended carrier frame is driven by pinion and moves over
the rack fixed on the banister. The pinion was driven by the electric
motor.
•The driving mechanism used in this stair lift has feasibility to
implement in real time due to smooth motion, less cost and highly
reliable. It has possibility to make movement on turning stair ways
•The stair lift device uses a rail on stairways for lifting and
lowering one disabled person. The driving mechanism includes
carriage mountable to the rail, rail comprises a track portion and a
structural portion.

Load bearing wheels are used in opposed roller track on each side
of the rail. In this manner, carriage is guided firmly and smoothly
up and down the rail using powered drive.
The driving mechanism used in this stair lift is a carriage mounted
on the rail moves up and down using powered drive. It is not
portable, wear of bearing cause severe damage to user, occupies
more space and expensive.
