Supervision and monitoring Task 1
Reflections on Schools, Teaching, and Supervision
As I look for ways to increase schools and classroom teaching, I need to know exactly how existing
practices in the field of supervision. I believe I have to work for the improvement of the school
with different approaches. Directive control, directive information, collaborative and nondirective
approaches can be applied. It might be a role of informing, directing, modeling, and assessing
teaching competencies or it might be the problem-solving process by becoming an active member
of the school. I have to keep the teachers focused on their common problems. Lastly my role might
be to listen, and provide self-awareness and clarification experiences for teachers.
Improvements that should be made in Maldives education
Over the previous years there is a significant improvement to education of Maldives; however,
there are still many challenges hindering quality education in the Maldives. When different people
asked about the improvement of education in Maldives came up with different solutions. There is
a growing concern with the quality of education in the Maldives. Increasing pass percentage in
GCE o’level will improve education of Maldives. Assessment system of the education of Maldives
needs to be changed so that no child is left behind. Free education for all regardless of disabilities
should be provided. Localizing the curriculum will strengthen the education system of Maldives.
According to the views of people talked, they have different ideas about improving the education
of Maldives as mentioned above. As described in the chapter about essentialism, experimentalism,
existentialism when I related the responses I found that the responses I got from five different
people will play a vital role in improving education of Maldives. For the time being GCE o’level
result is connected to the improvement of the school. By studying basic subjects and scoring high
marks will get a promotion and rewards to school in many ways. This is one of the features of
essentialism. Quality of the education will come under experimentalism. It will ensure that school
is catering individual needs with quality teaching. Types of assessment also are a part of
experimentalism since it is based on what works for the best will apply in teaching. New
curriculum which was implemented recently plays vital part in improving education in Maldives.
This curriculum provides a balanced framework to meet the needs of the education system of
Maldives. It caters the individual needs of the students and there are various ways to deal with.

What makes an Effective Supervisor?
To find out the teachers’ view about supervision role, I asked 5 teachers to write on what makes
the supervisors effective. Different teachers came out with same kind of ideas as if they all are
aware of the role of the supervisor. Some have mentioned about helping and supporting teachers
inside and outside the classroom. Keeping consistency when dealing with teachers are also
mentioned in two paragraphs. Three have mentioned of coaching, observing and giving effective
feedback to the teachers makes the supervisors effective. Instructional supervision is an approach
that teachers are very much expecting from supervisors. Teachers want them to work with them
by interacting with different purposes.
According to the teachers’ views of the paragraphs I believe almost all the teachers asked were
keen on to have a collaborative approach towards them. It seems that teachers who wrote the
paragraphs are very much familiar with the role of a supervisor. Most of the teachers have
mentioned about the instructional supervision and supervisors have to work for the developmental
of teachers.

According to the teachers’ views of the paragraphs I believe almost all the teachers asked were keen on to have a collaborative approach towards them. It seems that teachers who wrote the paragraphs are very much familiar with the role of a supervisor. Most of the teachers have mentioned about the instructional supervision and supervisors have to work for the developmental of teachers.
