-study of historical development of human understandings of the natural world -body of empirical, theoretical, and practical knowledge about the natural world produced by researchers making use of scientific methods (observation, explanation, prediction) of real world phenomena by experiment What is Science???
-in ancient civilizations advice was passed down through generations and traditions -only basic facts were known about human physiology -individuals observed many plants When did Science begin???
-theories vs laws -medicinal practices -“natural philosophers” -anatomy, zoology, botany, mineralogy, geography, mathematics, astronomy Science Discoveries….
-19th century -history marked by chain of advances in technology and knowledge PHYSICS -Nicolaus Copernicus (model of solar system) -Isaac Newton (law of motion, law of gravitation) -Albert Einstein, Max Panlck, Niels Bohr -Georges Lemaitre (big bang theory) BIOLOGY, MEDICINE AND GENETICS -Louis Pasteur, James Watson, Francis Crick Modern Science
