BrainGate technology is a branch of science
defining how computers and the human brain can
mesh together.
BrainGate technology is the brain implant system in
which a sensor is implanted into the brain
BrainGate consists of a sensor implanted in the brain and an
external decoder device, which connects to some kind of
prosthetic or other external object.
The sensor used in the brain gate system is the multi electrode
array known as Utah array.
The BrainGate Neural Interface Device is a proprietary brain-
computer interface that consists of an internal neural signal sensor
and external processors that convert neural signals into an output
signal under the user’s own control.
Braingate® is the company which purchased the
copyrights and the intellectual property of the Brain gate
system in April 2009.
The main goal of the Braingate company is to bring the
technology which help the completely disabled persons to
communicate and control common every day functions.
The decoder is used to convert the electro magnetic signals
from brain into a machine understandable signal.
 The Neuro chip has the main function in the Brain Gate
system.
 Neural chip is a Thin electrode which is generally 100 hair
thick .
 The neural chip is inserted into brain that sense the electro
magnetic signatures of the neurons firing in particular area of
the brain.
 Ex:Area that controls arm movement
 The neuron chip converts the intention of the user into the
Computer commands
The neuro chip is very small in size such that it can be
imparted in the finger of the hand.
The signal processing time of a neuro chip is very less and
done within fraction of seconds.
Neuro chip
It is a boon to the disabled or paralysed persons.
Provides interactive environment between person and the
computers.
There is no need of training for the interference between
the person and the computer.
This system is not affected by any speech and eye
movements or ambident noise.
The Brain Gate system is designed in such a way that
keep one day interface between user and computer.
Control of the remote devices.
Motorized wheel chair.
Convertion of information into knowledge
 The equipment used for the brain gate system is expensive.
 The surgery is required for implanting the sensor into the
brain.
 The system is not wireless yet.
 The experienced person is required for the operating the
system.
 The system is under development yet.
Frequent maintenance and adjustment of the device is
required
Many Brain implants are eventually failed due the
presence of the moisture and other perils in the internal
environment.
Easy to hack the brain
 Controlling one’s thoughts
 Reading one’s thoughts
Wheel chair: It can be controlled by brain gate
system by using the improved sensors and motors
and moves the robotic arm
The invention of the brain gate is the revolution in the
science.The remarkable thing is that it creates hope that
people who are paralysed will one day able to control the
artifical limbs,computers and wheelchair.
