2. Target Audience It is important to research what your target audience is going to be for a film. This ensures that people will watch and enjoy your film, which can earn a profit out of making the film from people paying to watch it in cinemas. If there is no specific audience, it is less likely that people will want to watch it because it does not appeal to any large group of audience (Rom-com fans)
3. Demographics for horror genre Teenagers and young adults who want an adrenaline rush from being fearful of something/someone. Males aged 16-35 are most likely to watch horror films.
4. Halloween (1972) 18 certificate Clearly the certificate shows the audience is for 18 or over because of the obvious violence that occurs repeatedly in the film.
5. The Shining (1980) Certificate 15 This is for a younger audience (15/over) because the film, although has a high level of gore, includes a child as a main character. Also over time, people have become more immune to horror films.
6. The Thing (1982) Certificate 18 This is also an 18 certificate because of the extreme graphic gore. There is also seven uses of language such as ‘shit’.
7. In Conclusion... Our target audience age is between 15-19 years. This is because of firstly, our certificate choice means that people under 15 can not view it, therefore our audience needs to be for young adults. Secondly, although more men are likely to watch horror films, our target audience is aimed at women because of the storyline. This may attract women to watch horror films with their boyfriends, which would help boost our revenue in cinemas.
