ZEE, one of the most well-known hip-hop artists of the modern era, has 5 platinum selling albums and
9 number 1 hits. But, as we find out, he hasn’t always been into music and his past has been linked
with drugs.
At the age of 18, ZEE got kicked out of high school for issues with behaviour and violence. This led
him to walk round the streets of Brooklyn all day to find a job which would provide him with enough
money to support his quite deprived family.
ZEE searched for a job every day, but there wasn’t much available. Because ZEE and his family didn’t
have much money, the clothes he wore were ones which didn’t give him much street-cred. ZEE
thought that the only way for him to bump up his street-cred would be to smoke weed just like the
local ‘Brooklyn Crew’ used to. His best mate was part of this crew so getting the drugs was easy for
him and he used to sneak into alleyways and smoke with them thinking his rep would go up with him
being seen with the notorious Brooklyn Crew smoking drugs.
All off this came to a sudden stop when he got busted by an undercover cop who had received a tip-
off that the Brooklyn Crew were selling drugs and when they were being interviews, they dragged an
innocent ZEE into their confessions which led to him being sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.
During his time inside, ZEE discovered a hidden talent of rapping and his bars would consist of real-
life issues and personal issues to him and the inmates would gather round to listen to him rapping.
One week after his release, ZEE went to a local recording studio and recorded his first track and
within months someone from Bass Recordings contacted him with a record deal which is what has
made him one of the most successful hip-hop artists of the modern era.
In a recent interview with Clique Magazine, ZEE told us ‘’My past is something I am not proud of, but I
am glad I am not involved with drugs anymore. I used to constantly be paranoid of being caught but
didn’t stop because of the reputation, but now I am doing something I love and I am known all over
the world”
ZEE is currently working on his new album ‘It’s a new Day’ which is set to be release in March 2013.
