CONTENT 
Those Winter Sundays tell’s us the poet’s own experience when he was a boy. He recalls how 
he could not recognize or never appreciate his father’s deep love in his childhood. 
OBJECTIVES 
The learner: 1. Understands the mood of the poem 
2. Appreciates simple poems 
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE 
The learners: 1. Know about parent child relationship 
2. Have heard about farming 
Classroom Procedure Expected Response 
RAPPORT 
The teacher makes a good rapport with the learners learners communicate well 
INTRODUCTION 
The teacher introduces the topic learners listen carefully 
to the learners ,by writing the title of the poem 
“Those Winter Sundays”(B.B) 
PRESENTATION OF NEW WORDS 
Ache : to feel a continuous dull pain 
Blaze : to burn brightly and strongly 
Austere: Strict and serious in appearance and behaviour
EXPLANATION OF NEW WORDS 
AUSTERE 
Teacher asks some questions to the learners Father is very strict and serious 
How is your father different from your mother? 
Teacher: Yes, as compared to mother, father is very strict and 
serious. So the word austere means strict and serious in appearance 
and behaviour. 
BLAZE 
Teacher : What happened when kerosene put on fire? It will burn more strongly 
Yes, so the word blaze means ‘to burn brightly and Strongly. 
ACHE 
Teacher : What was the condition of the patients The patients felt a kind 
at the time of bed rest? of pain in their body. 
Teacher : Yes the condition of the patient is always 
bad. They felt pain/ache in their body. So the 
word ache means ‘to feel a continuous dull 
pain. 
PRESENTATION OF THE POEM 
The teacher reads the poem and explains the whole learners listen to the poem 
Poem. Then asks the learners to read the poem silently 
ACTIVITY 
The teacher asks the learners to write the learners write the summary 
summary of the poem 
FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY 
Write a poem about your mother?
