Packaging an important part of branding
If you want to sell your brand to customers, packaging will have both
marketing and practical motive. If you are set to create packaging for a
product you are selling or you are contemplating modifying the packaging of
an existing product, at that time you might wonder is product packaging
important? Many product makers feel that the product and its performance
play a major role to attract the consumers. But in reality the product
packaging can play a very important role in the success or failure of the sales
of the product.
Function
The intention behind packaging a product is to protect it from damage.
Product packaging protects the product during shipment from manufacturers
to retailers. For example, fruit juice must have a container and package while
fruits may have packaging for transit from its source place to destination but
not to sell the product. Wherein shipping supplies has different kind of
packaging.
Attraction
When product sits on store shelves it should attract consumers to take a look
on the product. To achieve this many companies conduct ample research on
designs, color schemes and package size which is the most alluring to its
intended buyers.
Promotion
While marketing a product one has to think about its all P’s and packaging
plays a vital role in promoting a product, it portrays information about the
product. Promotion refers to alluding customer recognition of a product or
brand causing sales, and generating brand loyalty. Outside the packaging it
may contain instructions for how to use the product or make it.
Facilitates Purchase Decision
Packaging may also have ingredients and sustenance info about the product.
This provided information can aid to sell the product because it lets latent
customer to acquire necessary information they want to make a purchase
decision. The information enclosed on package may push the reader to buy
the product without ever heard about the brand.
Differentiation
Packaging does also differentiate one brand of product from another.
Packaging gives the identity of a brand, because the packaging can contain
brand logo, company name and company or product slogan, it helps buyer to
recognize the product among the competitor’s product. Many companies
prefer custom boxes for their product. For example, a purchaser walks
through a passage to buy energy drink from a grocery store, the intense
orange and green packaging of the Tang instant fruit flavored drinks brand
may be easily discernible for the shopper to seize on his way by the shelf. The
buyer many gets pinpointed with company brand, which drive them to
consume the product. If the product packaging modifies, it may amend the
brand perception of the company, which does not mean at all that the
customer would not purchase the product, but it may slightly delay sales of
the product until the customer is able to identify it according to its new
packaging.
