COUNCIL OF ARCHITECTURE
(STATUTORY AUTHORITY CONSTITUTED UNDER THE ARCHITECTS ACT, 1972)
NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 12th February, 2019
F. No. CA/12/2019/Regulations.—In exercise of powers conferred by clauses (e), (g), (h), and (j) of sub-section
(2) of Section 45 read with Section 21 of the Architects Act, 1972 (20 of 1972), the Council of Architecture, with the
approval of the Central Government, hereby makes the following Regulations further to amend the Council of
Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, the same having been published in the
Gazette of India, Part-III-Section-4 dated the 26th
March, 1983, namely:-
1. (1) These Regulations may be called the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education)
(Amendment) Regulations, 2019.
(2) They shall come into force from the date of this publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, in Regulation 4,
for sub-regulation (1), the following sub-regulation shall be substituted, namely:-
“(1) No candidate shall be admitted to architecture course unless she/ he has passed an examination at the
end of the 10+2 scheme of examination with at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry &
Mathematics and also at least 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination or passed 10+3
Diploma Examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 50% marks in aggregate.”

NATA 2019
NATA 2019 (Architecture Entrance) -14th April and 7th July 2019
The Council has been conducting the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) since 2006, as
an online examination spread over a period of 5 months. NATA has been adopted by a majority of
Universities, Government Institutions and all the private institutions as the eligibility examination for
admission to 1st year of 5-Year B.Arch. Degree Course and has been a major success.
The Council after carefully considering the various suggestions, anomalies regarding conduct of NATA
in the past, in order to further improve and strengthen the conduct of exam, and to attract bright
students into studying Architecture, has decided to conduct NATA as a one day examination (Pencil &
Paper based) all over the country on similar lines with other national level entrance exams all over the
country. NATA shall consist of 2 Parts, paper based carrying maximum marks of 200. Part 1 of NATA
shall consist of multiple choice 60 questions of 2 marks each (MCQ type) on Mathematics and General
Aptitude for a duration of 60 minutes, while Part 2 which is on Drawing and Observation Skills shall
carry 2 questions of 40 marks each- duration 120 minutes. NATA Examination shall be conducted at
around 70 cities spread all over the country. The Candidates shall have to furnish a choice of three
cities for the test centre and the centre shall be allocated by the Council on the basis of number of
applications received from a particular city/state.
NATA 2019 Score shall be valid for admission to B.Arch. Course in Academic Year 2019-2020. Qualifying
Marks would be decided on percentile based on post exam statistics. Marks scored along with percentile
and rank would be published on NATA website. The candidates can fill in the Application Form on NATA
website and remit NATA Exam Fee online. NATA brochure and other information about submission
of online application, eligibility etc. shall be available at the NATA portal “www.nata.nic.in” and on
Council’s website www.coa.gov.in.
What Is It?
It is an Architecture Entrance Exam.
The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific
field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion,
aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been acquired over a long period of time,
and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.
Who Takes It and Why?
Prospective applicants desirous of taking admission to First year of undergraduate course in
Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) in India take NATA. NATA scores are used by admissions
authorities of different Government, Govt. Aided & unaided schools / colleges of Architecture, to
provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants.
Where Do People Take It?
NATA is offered over major part of admission season at designated Test Centers. Updated list of Test
centers is available at the website http://www.nata.in
Who Accepts It?
All schools / colleges of Architecture, Government, Government aided, University Departments,
private unaided, including colleges affiliated to self-financed Deemed Universities and Private
Universities, or any department of Architecture within a college, requires that its applicants take the
NATA (Architecture Entrance Exam).
Eligibiliy
Only science students are eligible for this test for the academic session 2019-2020

APTITUDE TEST - J.E.E.(B.Arch.) 2019 (Conducted in January 2019 and
again in April 2019)
The J.E.E.(B.Arch.) is an all India level entrance examination for both engineering/
architecture streams. It comprises of separate question patterns and structure for both the
streams. The J.E.E.(B.Arch.) pattern for B. Arch/B. Planning comprises of three important
parts, part 1 consists of questions from mathematics and part 2 consists of aptitude type
questions and part 3 consists of drawing and sketching. It includes questions in testing the
students’ attitudes regarding people, place and environment. It is a 3 hours examination.

Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, Materials.) Objects, Texture related to Architecture
and built environment.
Visualizing three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings. Visualizing different
sides of three dimensional objects.
Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical and Verbal).
Part – III
Three dimensional - perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of
objects, building forms and elements, colour, texture, harmony and contrast.
Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil.
Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation, development of
surfaces and volumes,
Generation of Plan, elevations and 3 D views of objects. Creating two dimensional and
three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms.
Sketching of scenes and activities from memory of urbanscape (public space, market,
festivals, street scenes, monuments, recreational spaces etc.), landscape (river fronts,
jungles. gardens, trees, plants etc.) and rural life.

No. CA/12/2019/Regulations.—In exercise of powers conferred by clauses (e), (g), (h), and (j) of sub-section (2) of Section 45 read with Section 21 of the Architects Act, 1972 (20 of 1972), the Council of Architecture, with the approval of the Central Government, hereby makes the following Regulations further to amend the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, the same having been published in the Gazette of India, Part-III-Section-4 dated the 26th March, 1983, namely:- 1. (1) These Regulations may be called the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) (Amendment) Regulations, 2019. (2) They shall come into force from the date of this publication in the Official Gazette. 2. In the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architectural Education) Regulations, 1983, in Regulation 4, for sub-regulation (1), the following sub-regulation shall be substituted, namely:- “(1) No candidate shall be admitted to architecture course unless she/ he has passed an examination at the end of the 10+2 scheme of examination with at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics and also at least 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination or passed 10+3 Diploma Examination with Mathematics as compulsory subject with at least 50% marks in aggregate.” Footnote : The principal Regulations were published in the Gazette of India, Part III, Section 4, dated the 26th March, 1983 and subsequently amended and published in the Gazette of India (i) dated the 27th August, 1983, (ii) dated the 7th January, 2006, (iii) dated the 29th May, 2017. NATA 2019 NATA 2019 (Architecture Entrance) -14th April and 7th July 2019 The Council has been conducting the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) since 2006, as an online examination spread over a period of 5 months. NATA has been adopted by a majority of Universities, Government Institutions and all the private institutions as the eligibility examination for admission to 1st year of 5-Year B.Arch. Degree Course and has been a major success. The Council after carefully considering the various suggestions, anomalies regarding conduct of NATA in the past, in order to further improve and strengthen the conduct of exam, and to attract bright students into studying Architecture, has decided to conduct NATA as a one day examination (Pencil & Paper based) all over the country on similar lines with other national level entrance exams all over the country. NATA shall consist of 2 Parts, paper based carrying maximum marks of 200. Part 1 of NATA shall consist of multiple choice 60 questions of 2 marks each (MCQ type) on Mathematics and General Aptitude for a duration of 60 minutes, while Part 2 which is on Drawing and Observation Skills shall carry 2 questions of 40 marks each- duration 120 minutes. NATA Examination shall be conducted at around 70 cities spread all over the country. The Candidates shall have to furnish a choice of three cities for the test centre and the centre shall be allocated by the Council on the basis of number of applications received from a particular city/state. NATA 2019 Score shall be valid for admission to B.Arch. Course in Academic Year 2019-2020. Qualifying Marks would be decided on percentile based on post exam statistics. Marks scored along with percentile and rank would be published on NATA website. The candidates can fill in the Application Form on NATA website and remit NATA Exam Fee online. NATA brochure and other information about submission of online application, eligibility etc. shall be available at the NATA portal “www.nata.nic.in” and on Council’s website www.coa.gov.in.
  • 7. What Is It? It is an Architecture Entrance Exam. The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. Who Takes It and Why? Prospective applicants desirous of taking admission to First year of undergraduate course in Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) in India take NATA. NATA scores are used by admissions authorities of different Government, Govt. Aided & unaided schools / colleges of Architecture, to provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants. Where Do People Take It? All schools / colleges of Architecture, Government, Government aided, University Departments, private unaided, including colleges affiliated to self-financed Deemed Universities and Private Universities, or any department of Architecture within a college, requires that its applicants take the NATA (Architecture Entrance Exam). Eligibiliy Only science students are eligible for this test for the academic session 2019-2020

JEE B.ARCH. 2019 APTITUDE TEST - J.E.E.(B.Arch.) 2019 (Conducted in January 2019 and again in April 2019) The J.E.E.(B.Arch.) is an all India level entrance examination for both engineering/ architecture streams. It comprises of separate question patterns and structure for both the streams. The J.E.E.(B.Arch.) pattern for B. Arch/B. Planning comprises of three important parts, part 1 consists of questions from mathematics and part 2 consists of aptitude type questions and part 3 consists of drawing and sketching. It includes questions in testing the students’ attitudes regarding people, place and environment. It is a 3 hours examination. Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil. Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation, development of surfaces and volumes, Generation of Plan, elevations and 3 D views of objects. Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms. Sketching of scenes and activities from memory of urbanscape (public space, market, festivals, street scenes, monuments, recreational spaces etc.), landscape (river fronts, jungles. gardens, trees, plants etc.) and rural life.
