Explain briefly why the properties of polycrystalline materials tend to be isotropic, even when the properties of a single crystal of the same material are very anisotropic. Solution Isotropic:- The properties of the material are same in all directions. Ansotropic:- The propertis of the material varies with the crystallographic orientations, or its not uniform in all directions. For polycrystalline materials the grain orientations are random in nature.Therefore, even the individual grains are anisotropic, the propertie differences of the material tends to average out and the overall material is isotropic..

  • 1. Explain briefly why the properties of polycrystalline materials tend to be isotropic, even when the properties of a single crystal of the same material are very anisotropic. Solution Isotropic:- The properties of the material are same in all directions. Ansotropic:- The propertis of the material varies with the crystallographic orientations, or its not uniform in all directions. For polycrystalline materials the grain orientations are random in nature.Therefore, even the individual grains are anisotropic, the propertie differences of the material tends to average out and the overall material is isotropic.
