3. Brief history of
greenhouse
The idea of greenhouse backs to the
roman empire (Tiberius emperor).
The first true greenhouse, called ‘the
botanical garden’, was also built in Italy, in
the 13th century.

4. What is green
house ?
• A glasshouse with sufficient heating is a
structure with walls and roof made
chiefly of transparent material, such as
glass, in which plants requiring regulated
climatic conditions are grown.These
structures range in size from small sheds
to industrial-sized buildings .The interior
of a greenhouse exposed to sunlight
becomes significantly warmer than the
external temperature, protecting its
contents in cold weather.

5. Why green house
yields more?
• U.V. film does not allow harmfulU.V.
rays to enter the green house thus
protecting the crop
• Inside environnent romains Under
control
• Carbon dioxide released by the plants
released in night is consumed by
plants itself in the morning. Thus the
plants get about 8-10% times more
food than the open field condition

6. Advantages of greenhouse
• Manipulation of Growing season
• Higher production per unit area is obtained
• Higher value and higher quality crops can be grown
• Efficient use of Irrigation Water
• Infestation of pests and diseases is eliminated

7. Environmental control
• Cooling wall
• Electric Fan
• Air mixer
• Sensors
• Irrigation system(drip lines)

8. Structure design
of greenhouse
• A structure design of a green house must
provide protection against damages from
wind, rain, heat and cold. At the same time
• the structure of green house must be of
minimum size in order to permit maximum
light transmission to the crop.
• The roof should be built from strong gothic
type arches with narrow spacing for higher
stability of the PE cover and increased
resistance to heavy rainfall and strong winds.
The structure should be built modularly to
enable easy expansion

9. Green house
covering
• Green house covering are used to
polyethylene film used to cover green
house.
• UV Filtration: For longer duration of
PE itself and prevent harmful radiation
from reaching the plants the stability
of thermos film allows it to resist
splitting and tearing and to maintain
the above properties up to 2 years
