Born on July 27, 1812 to Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Solms–Braunfels and Princess Friederike of Mecklenburg–Strelitz, Friedrich Wilhelm Karl
Ludwig Georg Alfred Alexander, known as Prince Carl, was brought up in a wealthy noble family. He was educated as a soldier and courtier, and
was fluent in three different languages. As with most nobles of the time, Prince Carl had an illustrious family tree and many connections. Because of
this, he received important military assignments and awards. In 1834, he secretly married Luise Auguste Stephanie Beyrich, a woman of lesser

"The Indians had owned the land," Houston argued, "so the government by virtue of conquest could sell it." (HOUSTON, P.111). Congress had to go
