TOPICS FOR REVIEW
Technology
• Television
• Cell Phone
• Computers
Theories
• Media dependency Theory
• Critical Mass Theory
• Social Learning Theory
CELL PHONES PAST TO PRESENT
• The first cell phone ever sold was a Motorala DynaTAC 8000X/
• It went on the market March 13, 1986 and was sold for $3,995
• The phone weighed over 28 ounces and was eventually nicknamed the brick because of
its bulky size.
CURRENT CELL PHONES
• The most popular cell phone used today is the iPhone.
• The average price of a iPhone is about $581
• The iphone also has thousands of apps that give the phone many capabilities.
FUTURE OF CELL PHONES
• The future of cell phones is the IPhone 6
• It has many new functions that have not been seen on a phone before. These include:
• New Camera Technologies
• Gesture and face recognition
• Wireless Phone Charging
• Longer lasting Batteries
• 3D technologies.
MEDIA DEPENDENCY THEORY FOR PHONES
• Cell phones have advanced so much over the years to the where people depend on
theme more and more everyday. With cell phones having so many functions, they
decrease the use of basic communication.
• An example of this would be mobile social media like Twitter, Facebook, or other sites you
can use on your phone. Instead of having conversation over the phone, people can send
quick messages to one another similar to texting. There are many abbreviations used in
these messages that cause a loss of intelligent conversation.
TELEVISION PAST TO PRESENT
• The first television was not invented by a sings inventor, instead many people working
together and alone over the years, contributed to the evolution of television.
• In 1900 at the world Fair in Paris, the first International Congress of Electricity was held.
That is where Russian Constantin Perskyi made the fitst known use of the word
“television”
• The color TV was invented in 1925
CURRENT TELEVISIONS
• Most Televisions today are known for having these features
• 1080p
• HD
• 4K
• 3 Dimensional
FUTURE OF TELEVISON
• The future of televisons is for them to look more real and lifelike then ever before
• Televisions are starting to use OLED also known as organic light emitting diodes.
• Instead of using liquid crystals like a LCD or LED TV, OLED TVs set incorporate organic
molecules that actually emit their own light when electrical currents pass through them
causing the picture to look better.
CRITICAL MASS THEORY FOR TELEVISIONS
• Televisons are very popular today. Many people have them and they are used often. This
fits into this theory because a large majority of people have the televisions which makes
the minority of people that don’t have them want them even more. This makes televisons
even more popular.
COMPUTERS PAST TO PRESENT
• The First Computer was invented by Konrad Zuse in 1936. It was called the Z1 Computer.
• The first commerical computer which could be bought was the UNIVAC computer and it
was made in 1951.
• Apple made there first home computer in 1983 while there Rivals Microsoft would not
make one until 1985
CURRENT COMPUTERS
• Computers today have become light weight and easy to use
• Laptops are more popular today because of how portable they are.
• The most popular laptop today is the Apple Macbook.
FUTURE OF COMPUTERS
• The future of computer included features like:
• 3D cameras
• Gesture controls that monitor your movements
• Eye control which controls the mouse with the path of your eyes.
SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY FOR COMPUTERS
• Computers have a big part today in learning and education. School work is developing
more and more as people are doing there work electronically. This fits into the social
learning theory because if people do not adapt and transistion to using computers more
they will be left behind in education.
CONCLUSION
• Technology has effected the way we communicate in many different ways. There are
many ways it has helped communication, but also a few ways it has hurt it. Technology
has taken the limits off of communication. You can get in contact with anyone across the
globe almost instantly with phone calls, text messaging, and other instant messaging
through social media. This type of communication saves many people a lot of time and
makes it easier for people to stay in touch from far distances. With all the good that this
technology has done, it has also hurt communication. With so many ways to
communicate, it has hurt the way people communicate face to face with one another.
There are not as many face to face conversations because of the different means of
communication. This also take away from peoples’ ability to talk and interact with people.
Overall, the new technology improves the way we communicate and it changing it also. As
more technology is created we will find new ways to communicate.
