Very good morning to you all
It is such an for me to be here and truly inspiring to listen to so many great news about women’s advancement through various kinds of initiatives, and cooperation and innovations.
My name is Siriporn Laosang, I am the regional coordinator of the AP region for the knowledge gateway for women’s economic empowerment
I would like to spend just a few seconds to highlight what UN Women is doing and only a couple of minutes to talk about the most recent innovation of UN Women, the Knowledge Gateway or www.EmpowerWomen.Org.
UN Women works to
eliminate the discrimination against women and girls
we work to empower women socially, legally and economically
we works for the equality between women and men, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security
We work and have presence around the world
In Africa, Americas and the Caribbean, Arab States and North Africa, in Europe and Central Asia and in Asia Pacific
In AP we work in 32 countries and the office in Bangkok is our regional office.
Now let me show you a brief story of over half of the world’s population, women
The question is
How can we break down tons of barriers to empower women economically and achieve gender quality?
There is no single answer
BUT
Let us present to you
A Single Platform
This is the platform for the Community of Practice where we disseminate the results of integrated approaches (simply put the results of what works and what does not work) and resources on WEE
It is a truly enabling platform
Where women and men from around the world are able to
When you become the member of the Knowledge Gateway
You will benefit from participating in discussions led by experts both through online discussions and google hangouts
You will benefit from exchange views and information with practitioners, women entrepreneurs, and women workers, give and receive inputs about good practices, lessons learned and emerging issues
There are lots of learning activities for all through webinars and e-learning
You get to engage in our social media campaigns
And in a couple of months we will launch a new feature on the Gateway the new feature is called the Business Hub
The Business Hub is the space where women enterprises, the signatories of the WEPs, and other institutions that support women in the economy including associations, networks, cooperatives, chambers of commerce, can find and collaborate with each others.
Show you the prototype of the Business Hub
Let me conclude my talk by thanking the BPW for inviting UN Women to this exciting event. UN Women will have two workshop sessions after this Plenary. One today at 2 pm and tomorrow again at 2 pm. In the workshop session I will talk more in details about the Knowledge Gateway and demonstrate how you can best utilize the Knowledge Gateway for the highest benefit to your business and networks. I look forward to seeing you.
Thank you and have a good day
