How effective is the combination of your main presentatrion
1. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE
COMBINATION OF YOUR
MAIN PRODUCT AND
ANCILLARY TEXTS?
By Annabelle Madzia
2. Now I have completed my film trailer and completed both my ancillary tasks, I am really pleased
with my final results. I think that both of these products work really well together, especially in
explaining to the audience exactly what my trailer is about. I wanted to make sure that all 3 platforms
had the same effect on the audience and that it left them all in suspense wanting to find out what
happened next. When we were set the task of creating a film trailer we had to make the decision of
either doing a thriller or a horror. Before making my final decision I made sure that I had done a lot
of research into what sort of trailer I wanted to create. I then came up with the decision that I
wanted to create a thriller film as I wanted to try and create as much suspense as possible. One of my
main inspirations for choosing this genre was when I watched the ‘Taken’ trailer. Throughout
watching this trailer I found it very tense and my favourite part of the trailer was when the young girl
got dragged from under the bed. This is when I came up with my trailer idea and I actually
incorporated this part into my own trailer. My trailer actually ends with the girl getting dragged under
the bed and when I was filming this part I decided to take some photos which I was really pleased for
as I then went and used it for my final film poster.
3. Here is a mid shot of the girl being dragged under the bed,
the audience can only see her facial features and hands. I feel
that this mid shot is very effective because the expression on
her face clearly shows that she is scared and something has
gone wrong. The mise-en-scene is also very effective because
the girl is hiding under a bed. The fact that her hands are in
front of her also suggests that she is trying to grim the carpet
in order to stop her from being dragged under the bed. In the
mid-shot we can then see a characters legs in the background
which could show that this is what she is so scared of.
4. I used iMovie to edit my actual trailer and then I used Photoshop to edit my film poster. I
had never used any of these software's before meaning that I found it very difficult at first
as I did not even know how to insert all of my video clips into the iMovie document
itself. In order to figure out how to use the programme I spent hours and hours watching
YouTube videos on to how to understand how to use the programme. However once I
had learnt how to use it I then had to attempt to use Photoshop. I found Photoshop a lot
harder to use than iMovie as there was just so many tools on the programme to learn
about and every time I kept clicking something everything would always go wrong.
However I managed to get their in the end and I am really pleased with my overall final
edit. After creating all of this I then decided that I wanted to create a website. I did this
because in order to get people to actually find out about my trailer I needed to promote
my trailer and this would be a great platform in order to get peoples attention. I also
created different social media accounts for my trailer which is also linked in with my
website.
5. I have also made sure that I have used the same actors throughout my work. This
means that when on my social media pages I have focused on these two characters
the most. I have done this in order to for my audience to then start to recognise
these characters so then they will automatically think of my film. In my trailer I
have also stated the names of my characters in bold font on a separate slide. This
is so then the audience will then begin to learn their names, also this could be
appealing to the audience as they might have seen them feature in other films
meaning they want to watch this film as these characters will be featuring in it. I
have then made sure that I have linked the characters in with my social media
pages. I have tried to promote their names as much as possible on my social media
accounts and poster photos of them all over my accounts allowing people to then
recognise then. The main characters names are Clementine Lily who is the victim
in my trailer and then Luke William who is the evil character after Clementine.

7. I then created another media platform of a website using the website called http://www.wix.com/ this
allowed me to create a free website in order to then promote my trailer. On the website the first thing it
asked was what sort of page I would be creating. I then clicked on media/educational meaning it came up
with a lot of different formats in which I could lay my website out. I knew that the first thing I wanted
the audience to see on the page was my trailer, so I looked for a format which allowed me to have my
trailer automatically begin to play when the website was clicked on. I feel that by doing this, this is very
effective as people are constantly going to get reminded about what my trailer is about and then hopefully
want to go and watch it in the cinema. On my website I have also got a banner at the top which is
labelled with 5 different headings 'Home, Tickets, Gallery, About and Updates' Then as soon as you were
to click on one of the headings it would automatically take you to a separate page which has a whole lot
of different information on. I wanted to show the audience a lot of different behind the scene shots, so
in the gallery I have posted a range of photos which were taken when filming. I have also posted a lot of
photos to do with the city of Dubai because when I was filming I was lucky enough to fly to Dubai. I
have also promoted the main characters names on the website by having an updates page. This is also
linked with my Facebook and Twitter pages for my trailer meaning that the audience will be able to find
the similar information on these pages. I have also promoted a lot of competitions as I feel that this is a
great way for the audience to get involved with all of my social media accounts. I also feel that by posting
about competitions it will get people excited for what the trailer and create excitement when watching the
trailer.
8.
9. In my trailer and ancillary tasks I wanted to make it as effective as possible and
clear to the audience that Clementine Lily is the victim in my trailer. This is why
I have also created a film poster which only has the face of Clementine on
however even though Luke can't be seen he still features in the background. I
wanted to make my poster as thrilling as possible in order to attract the
audiences attention this is why I have told Clementine to look directly into the
camera.
10. On my poster I have also put a film rating on the front of it. I have used 5 bold
stars to do this as I know that this should interest the audience and attract them.
This is because if they see a 5 star rating then this will prove to the audience that
the film must be really good. I feel that this can also be the main attraction to the
poster as I have placed the stars in a red colour and over a grey/white
background. This means that it will be easily seen by the audience and also
hopefully will catch peoples attention when looking at the trailer. I have also used
a tag line on the trailer which I have placed underneath the characters feet in the
background. I have put this in a white font and placed it over a black background
meaning it should stand out easily. The colour white also has many connotations
with innocence which is why I chose this colour. I also feel that it links in with
the girls face as I wanted her to look innocent and vulnerable in the poster, this is
why I have got her to look directly into the camera as I feel that this it make her
look more vulnerable.
11.
12. I then placed the masthead at the bottom right hand corner of my
poster. I did this by print screening the clip from my trailer and then
importing the image over to photo shop. While on photo shop I then
erased the background meaning I only had the font, I then zoomed in
to edit around the font meaning that all of the image was edited. Once
I only had the masthead I decided to place it in the bottom right hand
corner, I did this as this the background was light grey meaning that the
masthead would easily stand out to the audience. I placed the
typography in red and white, I did this because I wanted the 'Bad' to
have the connotations with evil and blood. I then placed the
typography 'Blood' in white because I wanted this to represent
innocence. This is because the audience will know that the girl is
looking for her parents so I want it to look like she is innocent and then
her parents are evil.
13.
14. I then placed a tagline on the top of the poster in a white typography,
I did this as well to represent the innocence of the young girl. I placed
the white typography over a black background in order for it to be
clear to the audience. I used a clear typography so then the audience
can clearly read the font. I decided to take this photo from the
inspiration of the 'Taken' trailer, this means that the mise-en-scene is
the same. I have placed my character under the bed and then using a
direct gaze I decided to have my character looking directly into the
camera, I did this as I felt that it looked effective because I wanted the
audience to feel sorry for her,
15. I then decided to create other media platforms for my poster such as a
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I did this in order to promote my
trailer meaning it will reach out to a wide range of people. On these
social media sites it will also give people the chance to get involved and
find out the latest updates to do with my trailer. I have also created
different competitions for people to get involved with meaning that this
will give them the chance to find out more about Bad Blood,
