The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again
The Holiday season is upon us once again. As usual there are lot of arguments about whether you
should say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or some other greeting.
Wishing someone happiness on a certain holiday celebration is not like wishing someone good
morning. It is a greeting that should be tailored to the person that it is being said to. Think about it if
you are at a mall and you see someone wearing a Santa hat with arm loads of brightly wrapped gifts
what holiday do you think they are celebrating? My guess is Christmas, so why would I tell that
person Happy Holidays?
The only time that I think "Happy Holidays" is acceptable is when you do not know the person well
enough to know what holidays they celebrate.
People worry so much about offending people but by reverting to such a cold non greeting you
offend anyway.
I grew up in a Christian home and I continue to practice Christianity but the most thoughtful gift I
ever received came from someone who did not celebrate Christmas. I received a gift from a person
from India who was a practicing Hindu, he was in this country on a work visa. He went home to
India and when he came back he brought me a Christmas gift.
I was blown a way that someone who doesn't even celebrate Christmas brought me, someone of
another faith and race a gift to help me celebrate. I asked him why and he said that he knows I
celebrate Christmas and he wanted my celebration to be special. He went on to say that wishing you

Christmas : A Short Story : The Story Of Christmas
It was four days before when Christmas, Doug Walker turned on the radio to listen to the local
traffic while he dressed for work. He listened as the announcer discussed a miracle in their small
town, "Parents are in an uproar trying to convince their children Santa Claus doesn't grant
everyone's Christmas' wish. No one can explain the perfect gifts found on front porches all over the
city." Turning up the radio, Doug called out, "Hey, Nancy, did you hear about the 'nutty' things
happening around here?"
When she entered the room, he switched stations, trying to find the beginning of the news. Doug
stopped when he heard the announcer say, "This morning, around 7:00 police received a call that
something bizarre was going on at June Hick's home on Walnut Street. Arriving at the residence, the
officers found several neighbors gathered in the living room, trying to determine who left an
envelope filled with cash taped to their screen door. Although June Hicks and her young daughter,
Annie lived alone, she didn't hear anything during the night." Turning off the radio, Doug left for
work.

When Annie heard about the money, she began jumping up and down, shouting, "Momma, Santa
Claus granted my wish, now grandma can spend Christmas with us." Filled with excitement, she
explained, "I wrote a letter to Santa telling him that you work two jobs to pay our bills and buy
food. Grandma is old, sick and alone. We miss her so much. Would he please bring her to Rockdale

Cultural Differences Between Santa And Norma
My participant Santa was introduced to me by my aunt Norma. Santa and Norma both share a
grandson. Norma introduced me to Santa because she is a sixty–five year old woman who has a lot
of experience because of the things she has gone through. Just like me, Santa is a Hispanic women
trying to live out the rest of her years as comfortable as possible. As I interviewed Santa, I realized
that we had many different diversity characteristics. Some of these characteristics was her
immigration status. Santa was born and raised in Puerto Rico for majority of her life time. It was not
until the age of forty–nine that she had decided to migrate to Buffalo, NY. She had stated that she
had never traveled outside of Puerto Rico and that moving to the United States brought anxiety to
her. My participant, Santa is very involved in her religion. She has been attending a Catholic church
since she had relocated to Buffalo. Santa also stated that she has been on disability since 2001 due to
mental health reasons. As for her social class Santa considers herself to be in middle–class, she
stated that she never struggled financially. As I interviewed Santa, her migrating to Buffalo, NY
stood out to me the most. Santa was the first one from her family of origin to travel outside of ...

Santa is currently sixty–five years old, and she had stated that she is not able to do certain things due
to her health and experience pain in parts of her body. As opposed to myself I am young and am
able to do things that she wish she can still do. An article titled "Elderly Mental Health: Needs" by
Shubhangi Parkar is about the mental health needs of the elderly. "It tackles the issues of their
institutionalisation and community care (Parker 2015)." This article is based on a qualitative study
and I chose it because it talks about how health requires more attention after a certain and what

Life Of My Life
LIFE
It all started on December 6th, 2002. Nicholas Andrew Hulbert was born at 12:53AM at the St
Providence Hospital. I was born into a world full of unknowns. "Let's name him Nicholas, since
today is Saint Nicholas day!". My father yelped as my mother was holding me in the blue baby
cloud blanket that I was wrapped in. Although I do not remember anything about my life before the
age of 6, memories show that I had done a lot in that short span of my lifetime. When I was 3 my
father Eric traveled a lot, he ran his business and had to go on a lot of business trips. My dad was a
scrawny guy, but he definitely had a dad belly from all the beer and wine he drank. My mother was
not the same as she is now. She definitely was a lot more healthy and fit. She went out with friends
often and actually had a steady job. She had long brown luscious hair Occasionally, my mother
would take off work and then we'd get to go with my father on his business trips. It wasn't very
often but those were the good days, when my parents were together happily without family drama or
issues and maybe the fact that they were actually together. I wonder what it would be like now if
they were still together. But aside from that, when I was 4 according to my parents I was silent, and
I barely did anything. I was just your average baby with soft skin and a big ass. Then around the age
of 5 I started talking again and was back to normal. Not much happened in the time that I was 5, just
a regular life no fun

Santa Clause Personal Statement
I was in third grade when I stopped believing in Santa Clause. As I listened to my classmates
describe the gifts they had received for Christmas, I noticed that my friends from wealthier families
got more presents than my friends from poorer families. After some reflection, I decided that the
only plausible explanation was that money, rather than elves, determined who ended up on the "nice
list." I have always had a strong sense of justice, but over the course of my life it has manifest itself
in different ways. When I was in third grade it led me to give up my belief in Santa Clause; and
when I was in high school it drove me to volunteering with local nonprofits. During my time at
Penn State, I set my sights on a new target: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is one thing for a society to fail in this purpose, but it is quite another for one to militate against
this cultivation. Locking people up will not cure drug addiction or mental illnesses. It will not
reduce crimes of poverty, and it has not reduced crimes of violence. There is even some evidence to
suggest that the negative economic effects of incarceration, coupled with the damage to family and
community ties, may actually lead to more crime. Incarceration is a reaction to crime, it is not a
solution for crime's underlying causes. The more I study the criminal justice system, the more

A Short Story : The Story Of A Rose
On one cold winter night by the oven–warm fire sat five children who had become friends and
experienced a christmas miracle. Before that let's take it back to a couple months before all that
happened .One day in the autumn an old gentleman had gone away, and had rented his house to a
family of little American children. Their mother was awfully sick so they moved from the U.S. to
Italy. Then the next day they went to their backyard garden and they danced and sang. One day
they're kitten ran away and they chased after it to a big wall and saw big black eyes looking through
the hole in the stones they were frightened and did not speak to the girl .The next day she was there
again, and Rose, the oldest girl, went up to the wall and talked to her a little while. The girl told
Rose that she had no kind father, no big brother or sister, and no sweet baby to play with and love.
Her and her mother lived all alone in an old stone house that looked on a dark. They were very poor,
and the mother was away from home almost every day, washing clothes and scrubbing floors, and
working hard to earn money for her little girl . When the children found that she had no one to play
with and was very lonely, they talked to her every day, and often brought her fruits and candies, and
passed them through the hole in the wall they even pushed the kitten through but the hole was
hardly large enough for her, and she mewed and scratched and was very much frightened. So then
the father broke away an

Argument On Santa Clauses
Santa Claus was well–known as a kind man who had a long white bread, wore big red–white clothes
and carried children's gifts with his flying reindeers as a vehicle. Christians all around the world
have had Santa traditions since the 1820's, which is lying children to believe in Santa, hang a sock
on the window, behave nicely and go to bed early so that Santa can come and give them presents
(Sleepypanda 2013). Until December 2016, psychologists claimed that Santa myth could destroy
children's trust to parents. "All children will eventually find out they've been consistently lied to for
years, and this might make them wonder what other lies they've been told," (Boyle & McKay 2016)
Based on my experience, when I was in elementary school, I remember the time that my English
teacher asked us to write postcard, she said that she would send the most beautiful postcard in the
class to Santa Clause, so we put high effort to create an outstanding postcard. They also asked us to
behave nicely for all day because Santa would come to the room and gave good children a present.
In that time, the reason I believed what they lied because I thought that teacher always teach student
the true and right thing, so they must tell us the truth as well. But, as time goes ... Show more

"Is Santa myth healthy or dangerous to children?" Since experts have argued about Santa myth for
years, there are some experts claimed that Santa myth is healthy for children. Alison Gopnik,
psychologist, U.C. Berkeley stated that whether children pretend to believe in Santa myth or
definitely trust in the existence of Santa Claus, it will not affect to skepticism or create any
harmfulness to children. Moreover, Dr. Matthew Lober, a child psychiatrist at Lenox Hill Hospital
in New York City (2013) said that "I don't think it is a bad thing for kids to believe in the myth of

Christmas Speech : Christmas Of Christmas
Christmas means Christmas...
There 's no doubt about it; the season to be jolly descends in December and now we 're in
November, Christmas is traipsing outside, pulling comical faces at the window – there 's only so
much you can take. I fancy going to the Supreme Court to attempt to reschedule Christmas for
March 2019; y 'know change the face of consumerism and tradition as we know it – but Christmas
means Christmas... this is deficient of fanfaronade, and straight to the point.
There 's evidence of festivities too, only several days ago, the ubiquitous 'Costa ' thermal takeaway
cup had a festive knitted make–over,as if kitted out by wool loving Trinny Woodall, well, it 's
getting colder; or I am getting older... I 've already had a spontaneous Christmas jingle gleefully
sung down the line, naturally, I became less stressed and immediately thought Christmas means
Christmas... there 's no escaping it. I really should treat the festive spirit as if it 's a much needed hot
bath, just shut the eyes and slip into a blissful trance. Until a question looms up... but does seeing
Christmas promotions in October bother you? In truth, it didn 't bother me until I thought about it,
because Christmas means Christmas and it happens every December – no surprises.
If I was being finicky I 'd prefer St Nicholas to make an impromptu appearance; to put the case
forward that Christmas means Christmas... something like: "Good day to you all, it has come to my
attention that the meaning of

The Most Popular Secret Santa Gifts
The tradition of giving anonymous gifts at Christmas has its roots in Scandinavia, where Secret
Santa is known as "Julklapp." This word is a compound of "Jul" (which means 'Christmas') and
"Klapp", which means "knocking." In Scandinavian countries, tradition dictates that a person
knocks loudly on the door, opens the door and throws the gift into the room or otherwise leaves it
behind without being seen.
Secret Santa events during the Christmas period have developed their own culture and rules. These
naturally depend on the variation on Secret Santa that applies. For instance, Secret Santa raids have
different rules from Trashy Secret Santas and different rules again than Secret Santa flash mobs.

Modern Mythology
Modern Mythology Not all mythology comes from ancient cultures. People all around the world
continue to create new myths and rework existing ones. Modern technology such as movies,
publishing, telecommunications, and the internet allow folktales, rumors, and myths to travel faster
around the world. A feature of some modern legends is that they originated as artistic creations.
Modern legends offer images of the best and worspect aspects of mankind. Modern myths suggest
that good behavior can be rewarded while greedy and foolish behavior will be punished. While
modern mythology is different from ancient mythology they are similar in that monstrous and scary
partly human creatures still fascinate people today. Vampires and Werewolves are examples of
modern mythologies most fascinating monsters. Modern mythology spawns from life's wonder,
excitement, mystery, and fear. One of the modern mythological people is Santa. The Santa Clause
story stretches all the way back to the 3rd century. The legend can be traced back to hundreds of
years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nichola was born sometime around 280 A.D.
in Patara, near Myra in modern day Turkey. Nicholas became the subject of many later told legends.
It is said that St. Nicholas gave away all of his inherited wealth and traveled the countryside helping
out the poor and the sick. One of St. Nicholas's best story is that he saved three poor sisters from
being sold into slavery or prostitution by their

Personal Narrative: A Letter To A Mom
Mom,
Let me start by getting some things out of the way.
1. Everything in this letter is as true as I can recall it. I'm not perfect but everything I mention is as
true to me as I can express.
2. I have been writing and rewriting this letter for six weeks over and over attempting to put the
right words in the right places. Unfortunately that make the whole thing very sterile. It's against my
better judgement but I think just being honest, as hard as it is, is best for me.
3. Both Allison and Lauren have been putting pressure on me to talk to you. Both for different
reasons, but you should know they have been my sounding posts and although this something that

I said from the beginning, Jaren won't be a bargaining chip. I was mistaken. What I should have said
is Jaren won't be leverage. I can't let anyone use him to make my decisions about him. I should have
said no.
It's my view that there is so much more going on here. Some things are my fault. I'm responding to
you through scars I have. On the other hand I'm trying to wade through your issues too. Honestly
don't know where to go from here. I want you to have a good relationship with him I don't know
how to kindle that. I want to trust that you'll respect my decisions for him. You've not done anything
that would make me think you'd place him in harm's way. That was never in doubt. What is in doubt
is that you will limit cookies (for a petty example).
I'm sorry for doing this via email. I'm still very defensive. I don't want a fight. I want an open
discussion, and even though this is the least personal way to communicate it allows me to put
thoughts to page.
I want to resolve this. I want Jaren to spend time with you. I want you to spend time with Jaren. I
want more than anything to not feel I as though we have to appease each

Once upon a time, there was a small village in the North Pole named Christmas Bear's Town. This
town was joyful, colorful. Everywhere you looked there was snow, candy canes and lights decorated
all the light posts that where lined up at the main road. The village had one of several Santa's
Workshops, a bakery, a place of gathering known as "The Plaza", and the center of The Plaza there
was such a big Christmas tree that would go past the clouds, and the houses would be spread around
in a way that all the elves could see each and greet each other. Christmas Bear's Town inhabitants
were always joyful, positive, and friendly, but at the same time, they were respectful and
responsible. They all had pointy ears, silly pointy shoes, different hats with a bell at the top, and
they all wore different colors that would match their personality. The thing that made this village
special, was that even though everyone was different, this didn't stop them from being nice to each
other.
One day the plaza was so much more lively than usual, the elves that lived in Christmas Bear's
Town were buzzing with excitement and whispering to each other that they heard there was a
newcomer in town! It was said that this newcomer was coming from the neighboring

Christmas Eve
Christmas is magical in the eyes of a child. At least, that's how it was for me. Every year, as the
month of December rolled around, the lights were strung and the trees were set up, I sent my letter
out with a hopeful heart that Santa would make an appearance on my doorstep on Christmas Eve.
The December of 2008 was the year that I wished for an electric scooter. I mailed my wish list to
Santa, knowing he would prevail and deliver that Razor electric scooter with a hand brake and fat
tires. Christmas morning was perfect! Santa had brought me a plum colored, shiny, and fully
charged electric scooter and my younger sister, Olivia, a hot pink one. They were perched on their
small silver kickstands in front of our eight foot tree that was weighed down with years worth of
homemade and souvenir ornaments. The scooters were free of a box or wrapping, just how Santa
always brought the gifts. As soon as the all of the presents were ripped open and breakfast eaten, I
pranced outside to test out my new ride. It was a crisp, wintry morning with gray skies. I cruised
back and forth on the scooter in front of my house for hours, accelerating on the uphills and coasting
on the downhills with the cold wind blowing through my tangled hair and my nose turning pink
from the low temperatures. It was my absolute favorite present. Fast forward a few days, the
Saturday following Christmas, and I was hiking up the red clay hill that began to incline as soon as

Is Santa Really Real Research Paper
Is Santa Claus Really Real?
BY– Aadi
Christmas is around the corner and excitement is on. Santa is checking off his last list of gifts and
everyone is happy. But wait, is there a real Santa anyways?
The long–awaited moment of truth has recently been discovered and it proves that Santa, the red–
suited guy who hopped through our chimneys, is real. Many adults, nowadays, once used to
believe– when they were kids that Santa is Real and he comes with his reindeers to give them gifts,
unfortunately, it was not really the Santa who came and gifted them, but it was their parents.
The myths of the existence of Santa was still like a mystery to a lot.
Mr. Torda, a Biology teacher in the Mayfield High school and the head of the Science Department,
said, " When I was a kid, I wondered if Santa was real or not. Like when my parents used to say to
me, There is this guy named Santa, who had a workshop and build all the toys, wraps them, deliver
them and like that." Many kids in the present moment wonder about Santa, and the reindeers, and
the stories of Santa make them believe that a guy with flying reindeers would ride his sleigh all the
way to give the kids, some awesome presents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Myth Of Santa Claus: The Dangers Of Lying
While lying can be ,at times, socially acceptable, there are dangers to lying that must be weighed,
but most lies are not okay.
There are times when lying may be considered socially oka, for example, lying to keep a tradition
alive. To illustrate, our culture celebrates the myth of Santa Claus, a jolly old soul who flies all over
the world every Christmas Eve bringing presents to all the good little boys and girls, and, of course,
coal to the naughty ones. Obviously, this cultural myth is supported by parents who want to teach
appropriate behaviors to their children. Back in 1987, the New York Times stated in a poll that "87%
of American children between 3 and 10 believe in Santa Claus." More recently, another poll from
the New York Times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Furthermore, lying is incredibly useful to spread good will. For example, lying is necessary when
trying to keep a surprise party or a gift on the down low, so whenever the moment comes, the
recipient will be surprised and excited.
Lying is also useful and acceptable to prevent any harsh feelings with a friend or family member
who is over sensitive and may not be available to handle the truth. For example, if my friend was
looking forward to getting her spray tan ,and, then, she finally gets it, and she's excited to have it,
and she asks me how it looks, but she looks like an orange mess, I will just say, "You look great,"
instead of ruining her day with the truth. Sometimes, social lies are important to build a friend's
confidence, then to destroy a person's outlook. Therefore, one must be careful about lying, it's rarely

What Are The Similarities Between America And Germany
"Culture encompasses the behavior patterns, beliefs, and all other products of a particular group of
people that are passed on from generation to generation" (Santrock). Culture is part of special
traditions and rites of passage. In this paper I am going to write about American culture compared to
German culture. To do this I interviewed Michael Heidenreich, who was born in Berlin, Germany in
1943.
Some similarities between America and Germany are both America and Germany are individualistic
societies. "Individualistic societies are when you give priority to personal goals rather than the
group; emphasizing values that serve the self, such as feeling good, obtaining personal distinction

While interviewing Michael we got to talking about traditions and holidays. Watching Michael's
eyes light up while talking about his childhood traditions and holidays reminded me of my own. He
told me of the different holidays such as a holiday called "Fasching" which started on a Monday and
lasted through Ash Wednesday. Michael described it as an, "ongoing party" with carnivals, and
parades. On December 6th, St. Nicholas day was another dearly beloved pastime. "All the good
little boys and girls would polish their shoes and leave them outside of their bedroom and St. Nick
would place presents inside their shoes (Heidenreich)." Lastly, the one I thought to be the most
interesting was on Christmas Eve. For my family on Christmas Eve we all get new Christmas
pajamas. It's like getting one gift before the big day, it somehow holds us over until Christmas
morning. Well for Michael, he had to work for his Christmas. He was expected to pick out a
different Christmas poem every year and memorize and recite it to his family. Michael laughed at
the memory, "If it wasn't perfect my parents would send me away until I had it down perfectly. Once
I could recite it perfectly, I would receive ONE gift. Just

Saint Christmas In Christmas : Saint Nick In Germany
Christmas is the time of year most people look forward to. It is a special holiday and it gives us a
chance to show those we love by giving gifts and spending time with them. We all celebrate in our
own unique ways. Christmas in Germany is very traditional and classic, many of the traditions and
beliefs have been carried on for a number of years. They celebrate by telling stories about Krampus
and Saint Nick, visiting Christmas markets and buying gifts, continuing lifetime traditions,
decorating and cooking favorite foods. The preparation for the Christmas season starts before
December in Germany. "St. Nicholas transformed into the legendary character called Santa Claus,
who brings Christmas presents to children around the world." (Biography) Although Saint Nick is
most commonly known as Santa Claus, he is still known as Saint Nick in Germany. Saint Nicholas
day is celebrated on December fifth, children put their shoes out and wait for Saint Nick to leave
them treats. Of course, if they have acted up during the year they do not receive anything but a stick
in their shoe. Saint Nick performed many good deeds, some of these include helping three poor
sisters escape from slavery. The three girl's father did not have enough money to support them or the
family, so he decided he would sell them into slavery. (Biography) "Three times, St. Nicholas
secretly went to their house at night and put a bag of money inside. The man used the money so that

The Real Santa Claus Similarities
The Real Santa Claus
Saint Nicholas was a rich, kind Bishop who lived in the fourth century in Asia Minor. Santa Claus,
as seen in the 1994 movie, The Santa Clause, is portrayed as a rosy–cheeked, chubby divorced
father who carries a cashmere bag of toys into homes of good children. While these two tales are
many, many centuries apart, it is interesting to see how it has evolved over time and the similarities
and differences between them. Santa Claus, from The Santa Clause (1994) movie, may have more
similarities to the tale from the fourth century than what we think. St. Nicholas Similarities The

Negative Essay : Santa Claus, Joll Or Folly
Santa Claus, Jolly or Folly
What's the most wonderful time of the year? Christmas of course, but this also happens to be the
best holiday for deceiving your vulnerable and trusting children. By lying to your kids about Santa,
you are setting them up to be skeptical of your future judgement and authority. It can also negatively
affect the bond of trust all parents want to experience with their kids.
As most children grow up they believe everything their parents tell them. Even when the parents tell
them something completely outlandish. For example, a man dressed in a red coat lives at the top of
the world, travels all the way around the world in one night, gets everyone the toys they asked for,
and eats cookies at every house he stops at. They accept this without question, because why would
their parents lie to them. I mean why would parents, all over the globe lie to their children about
Santa Claus? One reason in particular is selfish gain. When you lie to your kids and they readily
gobble up the complete misconception of christmas, you see how inferior they are to you and how
much you're in control of what they believe.
One argument is that there's no evidence that believing in santa can harm a child in anyway, but I
beg to differ. Anytime you ask an adult about when they found out santa was fake, they always
remember it, and they often talk about it as a traumatic event, and how christmas was never the
same after the magic was shown to be just a rouse. This shows that

Exploring Christmas Essay
Exploring Christmas
As the year draws to an end, the holiday spirit is in the air (quite literally we are waiting for the
actual 'holiday' to start) Well, jokes aside Christmas is surely just around the corner and the spirit of
Christmas is once again present among us. But what is this 'Spirit of Christmas'? In fact what is
Christmas?
When a person thinks of Christmas, the first thing that most probably comes to mind is the
Christmas tree or Santa Claus or even presents. Christmas can be described in many ways but it is
usually celebrated by millions of people according to tradition. Tradition dictates to put up a

Centuries ago in Great Britain, wood priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter
solstice rituals. The druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place evergreen
branches over doors to keep away evil spirits.
Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or
just outside their door to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree
evolved from these early traditions.
Legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. One
crisp Christmas Eve, about the year 1500, he was walking through snow covered woods and was
struck by the beauty of a group of small evergreens. Their branches, dusted with snow shimmered in
the moonlight. When he got home, he set up a little fir tree indoors so he could share the story with
his children. He decorated it with candles, which he lighted in honour of Christ's birth.
The tradition of the mistletoe is derived from the pagan worship of the sun god, Balder. He was
supposed to be immune to all forms of destruction because of spells cast by the other gods. The only
thing they lacked was the immunity to mistletoe. And so Loki, the evil god contrived to have Balder
killed in an arrow made of mistletoe.

Santa Claus
The Beginnings of Santa Claus The evolution of the figure known as Santa Claus can be traced
through religious, mythological, and cultural portrayals all the way back to the fourth century. It is
amazing how the legend of Santa Claus has grown and evolved throughout history. And even more
exciting how he has became a modern day icon during the Christmas season. What do you think of
when you hear the words: strings of lights, carolers, snow, cookies and milk? Most often Christmas
right? More often Santa Claus. Every boy and girl has felt the joy of Christmas eve, having family
time, putting out treats for Santa, and then tossing and turning unable to sleep growing evermore
restless about Santa's arrival. Although most know what Santa ... Show more content on

it was said that his body gave off a sweet smelling scent. This kept his boy incorrupt and cured the
sick. His remains were taken to Bari, Italy in 1087 where it was said to still perform miracles. The
pure spirit and intentions of Saint Nicholas are to thank those for inspiring the Christmas holiday.
"To begin with, Saint Nicholas–that was his name to start with–is about the most overworked saint
who ever existed" (Myers). All of this hard work and dedications made Nicholas stand out and held
influence over our beloved image of Santa Claus. Saint Nicholas is one of the many characters that
bloomed into Santa Claus. However, some of the legendary figures are fictional. One interpretation
of Santa Claus is displayed by L. Frank Baum in The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus. In this
story, Santa Claus was a child left in the wood and was force to grow up among the immortal
creatures of the surrounding forest of Burzee. The abandoned baby was adopted by a wood nymph
called Necile. She raised him and love him as her own child. "Let him be called Claus,' answered
Necile, 'for that means 'a little one." 'Rather let him be called Neclaus, 'returned the Queen, 'for that
will mean, 'Necile's little one" (Baum). As Claus aged, he didn't understand why he was different
and so he ventured out into the world in order to find his origins.

Literary Analysis Essay
As human beings, we are changing each and every moment as we are introduced to new ideas,
values and challenges by our surroundings. In Alistair MacLeod 's short story, "To Everything There
Is a Season", the author depicts the anxieties and reservations of the narrator 's transition between
childhood and the adult world. This story also allows the reader to understand the importance of
change in one 's life. The story is set on Christmas Day and the weeks preceding, when the whole
family was awaiting for the eldest brother 's arrival. By seeing through the author 's eyes, we can
understand the turmoil and conflict as he feels he is trapped in between two sides; childhood and
adolescence. Reluctance of changing, "Santa Claus",

The Christmas Debate: Benefits of Children Believing in Santa Claus

A Visit From St. Nicholas By Clement Moore
Clement Clarke Moore's narrative poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas", also known as "The Night
before Christmas", was written in order to be read to his children on the night before Christmas. His
poem unintentionally sought its way into publication and introduced America the conception and
perceived image of Santa Claus (St. Nicholas) and established American family traditions with the
retelling of its story. Throughout the world, the poem still is read and recited to children on
Christmas Eve by parents as a tradition of the holiday season. Here, Moore tells the story of one
family's visit from St. Nick on Christmas Eve. The father, set as the speaker of the poem, is awaken
by Santa and observes his arrival, reindeers, appearance, actions and departure. Moore effectively
builds anticipation for Christmas for kids and generates feelings of nostalgia for adults when he
portrays the poem's underlying theme of the childhood innocence. He does so by crafting his writing
to sound enchanting and child–friendly, reiterated in his rhyme scheme, structure, and poetic
elements in "A Visit from St. Nicholas", allowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Verbal imagery builds the urgency of the speaker in his attempt to discover the source of the sound.
Santa Claus's dialogue mixes the use of alliteration and internal "sprang from [his bed]", "flew like a
flash", and "tore open the shutters" to see the commotion from outside (10–12). Here, the speaker
features the use of simile and metaphor to show his abruptness and curiosity, which reflects the
same abruptness and curiosity of children, especially on Christmas morning. In the midst of his
findings, the speaker sees St. Nick and his fellow reindeers. This is one of the only scenes in which
Moore incorporates dialogue. In his encounter with Santa Claus, just as he is about to take off, there
is a use of metaphor and succession of

'Rhetorical Analysis Of The Magic Of Santa'
The print ad, "The Magic of Santa", does an effective job at reaching its targeted audience: a newly
formed family with young children. "The Magic of Santa" conveys the criteria: accessible contact

magnetism. The emotional response to these elements of an ad are important to attaining the interest
of a targeted audience and connecting the rhetorical appeal to visualization.
The palette of the ad is limited to shades of green, red, and a few neutral colors that serve as the
medium. Santa Claus is seen sitting next to two young girls, one is praying, while the other has a

Santa Claus Myths
Saint Nicholas, myth or legend? In order to determine the merits of Santa Claus and his effects on
Christmas, we must objectively review how his story aligns with the story of Jesus Christ. Although
Jesus is the reason for the season, distractions such as commercialism, religion and cultural division
have all played a part in detracting from this core message, however, these things can all be
reasoned with truth. But how do you reason with fiction? How can we inject fantasy into the center
of truth and maintain its veracity?
In examining the influence of Santa Claus on Christmas, we must first highlight his origin. Forbes

The concept of Santa Claus is something we are supposed to grow out of. Its celebrated as good,
wholesome fun for children, but how does he work alongside God. If we tell children that both
Santa and God are real and expect them to grow beyond one, then why not both. In truth they both
require the same substance to believe in there existence; faith in the unseen are both required to
believe, but faith in a lie is manipulation. The potency of Jesus Christ birth and ultimate, salvation
of humanity, is put on undue trial when one story is revealed as lie. Jesus informs us in Matthew
18:6–7, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better
for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! (New American Standard Bible)

Redeeming Santa Claus
Santa Claus, is known by many names: Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle and simply
"Santa". He is a figure that has been influenced by legend, myth, folklore and most importantly for
our purposes today. He wears red, is pulled around on a sleigh by a bunch of reindeer and delivers
presents to good children on the 24th of December.
The purpose of my post is not to argue about whether or not to teach kids about the full on mythical
father Christmas; personally I think it is a bad idea to go along with our culture on this; my friend
Clint Archer does a good job of dealing with this issue, click here to read it.
What I hope to do in this article is see if there is anything about Father Christmas that can be
redeemed. Now before you think my optimistic amillenialism has got the best of me, please read on.
The portly, joyous, white–bearded, bespectacled, red coat wearing, black leather belt displaying man

in song, radio, TV, children's books and films. This image was further entrenched in the 20th
century, especially with big corporations like Coka–Cola taking Santa on board their advertising .

Essay about Santa Claus Does Exist
Santa Claus Does Exist
So you don't believe in Santa Claus. It's understandable. We find ourselves in an age of pure
skepticism. We question everything. Science has taken hold of our lives, providing answers for all
questions and dismissing anything that cannot be explained as either myth or fiction. So it's quite
understandable why you don't believe, with no physical proof of his existence. It's indeed
understandable to lose sight of Father Christmas with the transformation of this holiday into one
that, as of late, is used commercially as a lucrative crutch solely to make profit. It's understandable
to abandon Santa Claus after hearing countless people deny his very physical or even spiritual
existence. After all, one tends to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the wreaths and Yule logs that come standard with this holiday comes a caring from deep in
the hearts of people unbeknownst to them at any other time of the year. At the sight of the Christmas
decor and the flames roaring at the hearth, a warmth envelops the heart, one with which no flame,
however hot, could compete. We see in our gift–wrap and our greeting cards and our holiday
stockings an entirely new persona occupying this world we live in, reprieving us from the daily
heartaches we all know as familiar.
Santa Claus must exist. How else would you describe this change in the way humans interact during
these otherwise dreary winter months? Santa Claus is the catalyst of human goodness, sparking
within us a genuine care for our neighbor, bringing us together for this wonderful season. Think of a
world without Santa Claus!
While your intelligence is gnawing at the lack of proof (the absent shred of red cloth torn by the
fireplace or the nonexistent cookie crumbs leading from the tree up the chimney), I believe even
still, just as millions upon millions believe in some type of god. As you deny Santa Claus on the
grounds of no proof, I accept him on those same grounds. Who are we to deny something we cannot
understand and therefore cannot explain? No amount of persuasion can convince me that Santa
Claus does not exist through people who celebrate Christmas, just as Christians believe Jesus exists

Santa Claus Stereotypes
Dreams of a White Christmas Without a doubt, Santa Claus is one of America's, if not the world's,
most iconic figures. A symbol of the secular West's religion of consumerism, Santa Claus and his
twelve reindeer have hijacked the holiday dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, and replaced it with
the gospel of spending. As both a cultural icon and the patron saint of capitalism, the depiction of
Santa Claus in recent years has been seriously debated. While today he is near universally depicted
as a portly old man, in a red and white suit and with a long, white beard, some argue that Santa's
image should reflect the changing demographics of the American public. Last year, a national debate
ensued after author Aisha Harris wrote for Slate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. . Making Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male could spare millions of nonwhite
kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood. Whether you celebrate the holiday or
not, Santa is one of the first iconic figures foisted upon you: He exists as an incredibly powerful
image in the imaginations of children across the country (and beyond, of course). That this genial,
jolly man can only be seen as white–and consequently, that a Santa of any other hue is merely a
"joke" or a chance to trudge out racist stereotypes–helps perpetuate the whole "white–as–default"
notion endemic to American culture (and, of course, not just American culture).
Despite the surface frivolity of this argument, it highlights some deeper issues endemic in race
politics in contemporary America. While the "white–as–default" notion may not strike many white
Americans as particularly problematic, if they even notice it, it does make sense that children would
like to see cultural images that reflect themselves, and not in ways that are merely comical or ironic.
However, when Megyn Kelly at Fox news read Harris's argument, she took an entirely different
stance on the preferable imagery of Santa Claus. In her segment, Kelly addresses the children and
adult members of her audience by

Why Is Santa Clause Wrong
Santa Claus is an imaginary being, based off of the story of Saint Nicholas. Often we teach children
myths, legends and fairytales to portray a theme to them on a level that they can understand, or
sometimes we pretend something for fun, such as a doll being a child's 'baby' but both we and the
child know that the doll is fake and not a real baby. Despite this, I believe teaching kids that an old
man drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong.
Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child–parent relation that some lies are OK, or even 'good',
and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be
communicating truthfully to their child. My main reason is that if we give presents to our children to
show our love, how can we propel this idea through a lie? Why not give them the presents
ourselves? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We show our love to others through presents, an age–old tradition stemming from the gift–giving
magi, and jolly old saint Nick. Obviously we always have other ways to show love throughout the
year, but Christmas is a special time for this. We give people specific gifts that they want or that we
know they will enjoy, this can represent the care and consideration that we take for them. If we use
Santa Claus as a middleman, how is this teaching children the 'gift of giving'? Or that we take time
to think of them, and what they enjoy? It also takes away the significance or personal feeling
attached to the present, like with an expensive gift, or family heirloom. If christmas is about love,
family and friendship, why do we use an imaginary stranger as an

The Legend Of Santa Claus
The legend of Santa Claus known as Kris Kringle, also known as Old Saint Nick, can be traced back
hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. At a young age he lost his parents inheriting a
large amount of money. He had a reputation for helping the poor and giving secret gifts to people in
need. Eventually a tradition developed that he would supposedly visit homes on Christmas Eve and
children would place treats around the house to welcome him. As time went by, more and more was
added to the Santa Claus legend. American artist, Norman Rockwell had painted many pictures of
Saint Nick wearing red and white. Years after the paintings more had been added to the stories
bringing about the Kris Kringle with elves and reindeer parents tell their children of today. Many
have tried to make sense of it and there is no scientific evidence to validate such stories. Simply
proposed, Parents should not lie about Santa Claus being real.
Children are told that Santa is a real man who lives in the North Pole. Parents who lie to their
children about Santa Claus being real degrade parental trustworthiness. At young ages children are
natural scientist; they ask questions, form hypothesis, and conduct experiments. When they ask their
parents if Santa is real or fake, most parents lie thinking it will protect their children from the truth
and pain associated with that truth. Children then begin to investigate by asking others. This is
where children get different stories about Santa Claus.

The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again

  • 1. The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again The Holiday season is upon us once again. As usual there are lot of arguments about whether you should say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or some other greeting. Wishing someone happiness on a certain holiday celebration is not like wishing someone good morning. It is a greeting that should be tailored to the person that it is being said to. Think about it if you are at a mall and you see someone wearing a Santa hat with arm loads of brightly wrapped gifts what holiday do you think they are celebrating? My guess is Christmas, so why would I tell that person Happy Holidays? The only time that I think "Happy Holidays" is acceptable is when you do not know the person well enough to know what holidays they celebrate. People worry so much about offending people but by reverting to such a cold non greeting you offend anyway. I grew up in a Christian home and I continue to practice Christianity but the most thoughtful gift I ever received came from someone who did not celebrate Christmas. I received a gift from a person from India who was a practicing Hindu, he was in this country on a work visa. He went home to India and when he came back he brought me a Christmas gift. I was blown a way that someone who doesn't even celebrate Christmas brought me, someone of another faith and race a gift to help me celebrate. I asked him why and he said that he knows I celebrate Christmas and he wanted my celebration to be special. He went on to say that wishing you Merry Christmas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Christmas : A Short Story : The Story Of Christmas It was four days before when Christmas, Doug Walker turned on the radio to listen to the local traffic while he dressed for work. He listened as the announcer discussed a miracle in their small town, "Parents are in an uproar trying to convince their children Santa Claus doesn't grant everyone's Christmas' wish. No one can explain the perfect gifts found on front porches all over the city." Turning up the radio, Doug called out, "Hey, Nancy, did you hear about the 'nutty' things happening around here?" When she entered the room, he switched stations, trying to find the beginning of the news. Doug stopped when he heard the announcer say, "This morning, around 7:00 police received a call that something bizarre was going on at June Hick's home on Walnut Street. Arriving at the residence, the officers found several neighbors gathered in the living room, trying to determine who left an envelope filled with cash taped to their screen door. Although June Hicks and her young daughter, Annie lived alone, she didn't hear anything during the night." Turning off the radio, Doug left for work. +++ When Annie heard about the money, she began jumping up and down, shouting, "Momma, Santa Claus granted my wish, now grandma can spend Christmas with us." Filled with excitement, she explained, "I wrote a letter to Santa telling him that you work two jobs to pay our bills and buy food. Grandma is old, sick and alone. We miss her so much. • 3. Cultural Differences Between Santa And Norma My participant Santa was introduced to me by my aunt Norma. Santa and Norma both share a grandson. Norma introduced me to Santa because she is a sixty–five year old woman who has a lot of experience because of the things she has gone through. Just like me, Santa is a Hispanic women trying to live out the rest of her years as comfortable as possible. As I interviewed Santa, I realized that we had many different diversity characteristics. Some of these characteristics was her immigration status. Santa was born and raised in Puerto Rico for majority of her life time. It was not until the age of forty–nine that she had decided to migrate to Buffalo, NY. She had stated that she had never traveled outside of Puerto Rico and that moving to the United States brought anxiety to her. My participant, Santa is very involved in her religion. She has been attending a Catholic church since she had relocated to Buffalo. Santa also stated that she has been on disability since 2001 due to mental health reasons. As for her social class Santa considers herself to be in middle–class, she stated that she never struggled financially. As I interviewed Santa, her migrating to Buffalo, NY stood out to me the most. Santa was the first one from her family of origin to travel outside of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Life Of My Life LIFE It all started on December 6th, 2002. Nicholas Andrew Hulbert was born at 12:53AM at the St Providence Hospital. I was born into a world full of unknowns. "Let's name him Nicholas, since today is Saint Nicholas day!". My father yelped as my mother was holding me in the blue baby cloud blanket that I was wrapped in. Although I do not remember anything about my life before the age of 6, memories show that I had done a lot in that short span of my lifetime. When I was 3 my father Eric traveled a lot, he ran his business and had to go on a lot of business trips. My dad was a scrawny guy, but he definitely had a dad belly from all the beer and wine he drank. My mother was not the same as she is now. She definitely was a lot more healthy and fit. She went out with friends often and actually had a steady job. She had long brown luscious hair Occasionally, my mother would take off work and then we'd get to go with my father on his business trips. It wasn't very often but those were the good days, when my parents were together happily without family drama or issues and maybe the fact that they were actually together. I wonder what it would be like now if they were still together. But aside from that, when I was 4 according to my parents I was silent, and I barely did anything. I was just your average baby with soft skin and a big ass. Then around the age of 5 I started talking again and was back to normal. Not much happened in the time that I was 5, just a regular life no fun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Santa Clause Personal Statement I was in third grade when I stopped believing in Santa Clause. As I listened to my classmates describe the gifts they had received for Christmas, I noticed that my friends from wealthier families got more presents than my friends from poorer families. After some reflection, I decided that the only plausible explanation was that money, rather than elves, determined who ended up on the "nice list." I have always had a strong sense of justice, but over the course of my life it has manifest itself in different ways. When I was in third grade it led me to give up my belief in Santa Clause; and when I was in high school it drove me to volunteering with local nonprofits. During my time at Penn State, I set my sights on a new target: the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is one thing for a society to fail in this purpose, but it is quite another for one to militate against this cultivation. Locking people up will not cure drug addiction or mental illnesses. It will not reduce crimes of poverty, and it has not reduced crimes of violence. There is even some evidence to suggest that the negative economic effects of incarceration, coupled with the damage to family and community ties, may actually lead to more crime. Incarceration is a reaction to crime, it is not a solution for crime's underlying causes. The more I study the criminal justice system, the more viscerally I feel a sense of ... • 6. A Short Story : The Story Of A Rose On one cold winter night by the oven–warm fire sat five children who had become friends and experienced a christmas miracle. Before that let's take it back to a couple months before all that happened .One day in the autumn an old gentleman had gone away, and had rented his house to a family of little American children. Their mother was awfully sick so they moved from the U.S. to Italy. Then the next day they went to their backyard garden and they danced and sang. One day they're kitten ran away and they chased after it to a big wall and saw big black eyes looking through the hole in the stones they were frightened and did not speak to the girl .The next day she was there again, and Rose, the oldest girl, went up to the wall and talked to her a little while. The girl told Rose that she had no kind father, no big brother or sister, and no sweet baby to play with and love. Her and her mother lived all alone in an old stone house that looked on a dark. They were very poor, and the mother was away from home almost every day, washing clothes and scrubbing floors, and working hard to earn money for her little girl . When the children found that she had no one to play with and was very lonely, they talked to her every day, and often brought her fruits and candies, and passed them through the hole in the wall they even pushed the kitten through but the hole was hardly large enough for her, and she mewed and scratched and was very much frightened. So then the father broke away an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Argument On Santa Clauses Santa Claus was well–known as a kind man who had a long white bread, wore big red–white clothes and carried children's gifts with his flying reindeers as a vehicle. Christians all around the world have had Santa traditions since the 1820's, which is lying children to believe in Santa, hang a sock on the window, behave nicely and go to bed early so that Santa can come and give them presents (Sleepypanda 2013). Until December 2016, psychologists claimed that Santa myth could destroy children's trust to parents. "All children will eventually find out they've been consistently lied to for years, and this might make them wonder what other lies they've been told," (Boyle & McKay 2016) Based on my experience, when I was in elementary school, I remember the time that my English teacher asked us to write postcard, she said that she would send the most beautiful postcard in the class to Santa Clause, so we put high effort to create an outstanding postcard. They also asked us to behave nicely for all day because Santa would come to the room and gave good children a present. In that time, the reason I believed what they lied because I thought that teacher always teach student the true and right thing, so they must tell us the truth as well. But, as time goes ... Since experts have argued about Santa myth for years, there are some experts claimed that Santa myth is healthy for children. Alison Gopnik, psychologist, U.C. Berkeley stated that whether children pretend to believe in Santa myth or definitely trust in the existence of Santa Claus, it will not affect to skepticism or create any harmfulness to children. Moreover, Dr. Matthew Lober, a child psychiatrist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City (2013) said that "I don't think it is a bad thing for kids to believe in the myth of someone trying to make people happy if they are ... • 8. Christmas Speech : Christmas Of Christmas Christmas means Christmas... There 's no doubt about it; the season to be jolly descends in December and now we 're in November, Christmas is traipsing outside, pulling comical faces at the window – there 's only so much you can take. I fancy going to the Supreme Court to attempt to reschedule Christmas for March 2019; y 'know change the face of consumerism and tradition as we know it – but Christmas means Christmas... this is deficient of fanfaronade, and straight to the point. There 's evidence of festivities too, only several days ago, the ubiquitous 'Costa ' thermal takeaway cup had a festive knitted make–over,as if kitted out by wool loving Trinny Woodall, well, it 's getting colder; or I am getting older... I 've already had a spontaneous Christmas jingle gleefully sung down the line, naturally, I became less stressed and immediately thought Christmas means Christmas... there 's no escaping it. I really should treat the festive spirit as if it 's a much needed hot bath, just shut the eyes and slip into a blissful trance. Until a question looms up... but does seeing Christmas promotions in October bother you? In truth, it didn 't bother me until I thought about it, because Christmas means Christmas and it happens every December – no surprises. If I was being finicky I 'd prefer St Nicholas to make an impromptu appearance; to put the case forward that Christmas means Christmas... something like: "Good day to you all, it has come to my attention that the meaning of ... • 9. Secret Santa Research Paper The Most Popular Secret Santa Gifts The tradition of giving anonymous gifts at Christmas has its roots in Scandinavia, where Secret Santa is known as "Julklapp." This word is a compound of "Jul" (which means 'Christmas') and "Klapp", which means "knocking." In Scandinavian countries, tradition dictates that a person knocks loudly on the door, opens the door and throws the gift into the room or otherwise leaves it behind without being seen. Secret Santa events during the Christmas period have developed their own culture and rules. These naturally depend on the variation on Secret Santa that applies. For instance, Secret Santa raids have different rules from Trashy Secret Santas and different rules again than Secret Santa flash mobs. Every form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Modern Mythology Modern Mythology Not all mythology comes from ancient cultures. People all around the world continue to create new myths and rework existing ones. Modern technology such as movies, publishing, telecommunications, and the internet allow folktales, rumors, and myths to travel faster around the world. A feature of some modern legends is that they originated as artistic creations. Modern legends offer images of the best and worspect aspects of mankind. Modern myths suggest that good behavior can be rewarded while greedy and foolish behavior will be punished. While modern mythology is different from ancient mythology they are similar in that monstrous and scary partly human creatures still fascinate people today. Vampires and Werewolves are examples of modern mythologies most fascinating monsters. Modern mythology spawns from life's wonder, excitement, mystery, and fear. One of the modern mythological people is Santa. The Santa Clause story stretches all the way back to the 3rd century. The legend can be traced back to hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. It is believed that Nichola was born sometime around 280 A.D. in Patara, near Myra in modern day Turkey. Nicholas became the subject of many later told legends. It is said that St. Nicholas gave away all of his inherited wealth and traveled the countryside helping out the poor and the sick. • 11. Personal Narrative: A Letter To A Mom Mom, Let me start by getting some things out of the way. 1. Everything in this letter is as true as I can recall it. I'm not perfect but everything I mention is as true to me as I can express. 2. I have been writing and rewriting this letter for six weeks over and over attempting to put the right words in the right places. Unfortunately that make the whole thing very sterile. It's against my better judgement but I think just being honest, as hard as it is, is best for me. 3. Both Allison and Lauren have been putting pressure on me to talk to you. It's my view that there is so much more going on here. Some things are my fault. I'm responding to you through scars I have. On the other hand I'm trying to wade through your issues too. Honestly don't know where to go from here. I want you to have a good relationship with him I don't know how to kindle that. I want to trust that you'll respect my decisions for him. • 12. The Lord Of The Rings, And Riot Games League Of Legends Dax–Roxette Turpin Adam Maloney English: Caring Milieu 18 February 2016 Acknowledgement The names in this story have been inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, and by RIOT Games League of Legends Elven Friends Once upon a time, there was a small village in the North Pole named Christmas Bear's Town. This town was joyful, colorful. Everywhere you looked there was snow, candy canes and lights decorated all the light posts that where lined up at the main road. The village had one of several Santa's Workshops, a bakery, a place of gathering known as "The Plaza", and the center of The Plaza there was such a big Christmas tree that would go past the clouds, and the houses would be spread around in a way that all the elves could see each and greet each other. Christmas Bear's Town inhabitants were always joyful, positive, and friendly, but at the same time, they were respectful and responsible. They all had pointy ears, silly pointy shoes, different hats with a bell at the top, and they all wore different colors that would match their personality. • 14. Christmas Eve Christmas is magical in the eyes of a child. At least, that's how it was for me. Every year, as the month of December rolled around, the lights were strung and the trees were set up, I sent my letter out with a hopeful heart that Santa would make an appearance on my doorstep on Christmas Eve. The December of 2008 was the year that I wished for an electric scooter. I mailed my wish list to Santa, knowing he would prevail and deliver that Razor electric scooter with a hand brake and fat tires. Christmas morning was perfect! Santa had brought me a plum colored, shiny, and fully charged electric scooter and my younger sister, Olivia, a hot pink one. They were perched on their small silver kickstands in front of our eight foot tree that was weighed down with years worth of homemade and souvenir ornaments. The scooters were free of a box or wrapping, just how Santa always brought the gifts. As soon as the all of the presents were ripped open and breakfast eaten, I pranced outside to test out my new ride. It was a crisp, wintry morning with gray skies. I cruised back and forth on the scooter in front of my house for hours, accelerating on the uphills and coasting on the downhills with the cold wind blowing through my tangled hair and my nose turning pink from the low temperatures. It was my absolute favorite present. Fast forward a few days, the Saturday following Christmas, and I was hiking up the red clay hill that began to incline as soon as you stepped off of our back ... There are times when lying may be considered socially oka, for example, lying to keep a tradition alive. To illustrate, our culture celebrates the myth of Santa Claus, a jolly old soul who flies all over the world every Christmas Eve bringing presents to all the good little boys and girls, and, of course, coal to the naughty ones. Obviously, this cultural myth is supported by parents who want to teach appropriate behaviors to their children. Christmas of course, but this also happens to be the best holiday for deceiving your vulnerable and trusting children. By lying to your kids about Santa, you are setting them up to be skeptical of your future judgement and authority. It can also negatively affect the bond of trust all parents want to experience with their kids. As most children grow up they believe everything their parents tell them. Even when the parents tell them something completely outlandish. For example, a man dressed in a red coat lives at the top of the world, travels all the way around the world in one night, gets everyone the toys they asked for, and eats cookies at every house he stops at. They accept this without question, because why would their parents lie to them. I mean why would parents, all over the globe lie to their children about Santa Claus? One reason in particular is selfish gain. When you lie to your kids and they readily gobble up the complete misconception of christmas, you see how inferior they are to you and how much you're in control of what they believe. One argument is that there's no evidence that believing in santa can harm a child in anyway, but I beg to differ. Centuries ago in Great Britain, wood priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter solstice rituals. The druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place evergreen branches over doors to keep away evil spirits. Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or just outside their door to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree evolved from these early traditions. Legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. One crisp Christmas Eve, about the year 1500, he was walking through snow covered woods and was struck by the beauty of a group of small evergreens. Their branches, dusted with snow shimmered in the moonlight. When he got home, he set up a little fir tree indoors so he could share the story with his children. He decorated it with candles, which he lighted in honour of Christ's birth. The tradition of the mistletoe is derived from the pagan worship of the sun god, Balder. He was supposed to be immune to all forms of destruction because of spells cast by the other gods. The only thing they lacked was the immunity to mistletoe. And so Loki, the evil god contrived to have Balder killed in an arrow made of mistletoe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Visit From St. Nicholas By Clement Moore Clement Clarke Moore's narrative poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas", also known as "The Night before Christmas", was written in order to be read to his children on the night before Christmas. His poem unintentionally sought its way into publication and introduced America the conception and perceived image of Santa Claus (St. Nicholas) and established American family traditions with the retelling of its story. Throughout the world, the poem still is read and recited to children on Christmas Eve by parents as a tradition of the holiday season. Here, Moore tells the story of one family's visit from St. Nick on Christmas Eve. The father, set as the speaker of the poem, is awaken by Santa and observes his arrival, reindeers, appearance, actions and departure. Moore effectively builds anticipation for Christmas for kids and generates feelings of nostalgia for adults when he portrays the poem's underlying theme of the childhood innocence. The portly, joyous, white–bearded, bespectacled, red coat wearing, black leather belt displaying man who carries gifts for children in a huge bad really became popular in the USA and Canda in the 19th century . Thanks to the American media machine this image has been maintained and promulgated in song, radio, TV, children's books and films. This image was further entrenched in the 20th century, especially with big corporations like Coka–Cola taking Santa on board their advertising . If we move back a few generations, some people say that the affinity Santa has for chimney comes from the pre–Christian era of Northern Europe. It is said to be believed by the Norse that ... • 35. • 36. Essay about Santa Claus Does Exist Santa Claus Does Exist So you don't believe in Santa Claus. It's understandable. We find ourselves in an age of pure skepticism. We question everything. Science has taken hold of our lives, providing answers for all questions and dismissing anything that cannot be explained as either myth or fiction. So it's quite understandable why you don't believe, with no physical proof of his existence. It's indeed understandable to lose sight of Father Christmas with the transformation of this holiday into one that, as of late, is used commercially as a lucrative crutch solely to make profit. It's understandable to abandon Santa Claus after hearing countless people deny his very physical or even spiritual existence. After all, one tends to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the wreaths and Yule logs that come standard with this holiday comes a caring from deep in the hearts of people unbeknownst to them at any other time of the year. At the sight of the Christmas decor and the flames roaring at the hearth, a warmth envelops the heart, one with which no flame, however hot, could compete. We see in our gift–wrap and our greeting cards and our holiday stockings an entirely new persona occupying this world we live in, reprieving us from the daily heartaches we all know as familiar. Santa Claus must exist. How else would you describe this change in the way humans interact during these otherwise dreary winter months? Santa Claus is the catalyst of human goodness, sparking within us a genuine care for our neighbor, bringing us together for this wonderful season. Think of a world without Santa Claus! While your intelligence is gnawing at the lack of proof (the absent shred of red cloth torn by the fireplace or the nonexistent cookie crumbs leading from the tree up the chimney), I believe even still, just as millions upon millions believe in some type of god. As you deny Santa Claus on the grounds of no proof, I accept him on those same grounds. Who are we to deny something we cannot understand and therefore cannot explain? No amount of persuasion can convince me that Santa Claus does not exist through people who celebrate Christmas, just as Christians believe Jesus exists through them today, ... • 37. Santa Claus Stereotypes Dreams of a White Christmas Without a doubt, Santa Claus is one of America's, if not the world's, most iconic figures. A symbol of the secular West's religion of consumerism, Santa Claus and his twelve reindeer have hijacked the holiday dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ, and replaced it with the gospel of spending. As both a cultural icon and the patron saint of capitalism, the depiction of Santa Claus in recent years has been seriously debated. While today he is near universally depicted as a portly old man, in a red and white suit and with a long, white beard, some argue that Santa's image should reflect the changing demographics of the American public. Last year, a national debate ensued after author Aisha Harris wrote for Slate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . Making Santa Claus an animal rather than an old white male could spare millions of nonwhite kids the insecurity and shame that I remember from childhood. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, Santa is one of the first iconic figures foisted upon you: He exists as an incredibly powerful image in the imaginations of children across the country (and beyond, of course). That this genial, jolly man can only be seen as white–and consequently, that a Santa of any other hue is merely a "joke" or a chance to trudge out racist stereotypes–helps perpetuate the whole "white–as–default" notion endemic to American culture (and, of course, not just American culture). Despite the surface frivolity of this argument, it highlights some deeper issues endemic in race politics in contemporary America. While the "white–as–default" notion may not strike many white Americans as particularly problematic, if they even notice it, it does make sense that children would like to see cultural images that reflect themselves, and not in ways that are merely comical or ironic. However, when Megyn Kelly at Fox news read Harris's argument, she took an entirely different stance on the preferable imagery of Santa Claus. In her segment, Kelly addresses the children and adult members of her audience by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Why Is Santa Clause Wrong Santa Claus is an imaginary being, based off of the story of Saint Nicholas. Often we teach children myths, legends and fairytales to portray a theme to them on a level that they can understand, or sometimes we pretend something for fun, such as a doll being a child's 'baby' but both we and the child know that the doll is fake and not a real baby. Despite this, I believe teaching kids that an old man drops down the chimney each year to give them gifts is wrong. Firstly, because it sets a precedent in the child–parent relation that some lies are OK, or even 'good', and this can have a bad effect on their understanding of honesty, parents should always be communicating truthfully to their child. My main reason is that if we give presents to our children to show our love, how can we propel this idea through a lie? Why not give them the presents ourselves? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We show our love to others through presents, an age–old tradition stemming from the gift–giving magi, and jolly old saint Nick. Obviously we always have other ways to show love throughout the year, but Christmas is a special time for this. We give people specific gifts that they want or that we know they will enjoy, this can represent the care and consideration that we take for them. If we use Santa Claus as a middleman, how is this teaching children the 'gift of giving'? Or that we take time to think of them, and what they enjoy? It also takes away the significance or personal feeling attached to the present, like with an expensive gift, or family heirloom. If christmas is about love, family and friendship, why do we use an imaginary stranger as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Legend Of Santa Claus The legend of Santa Claus known as Kris Kringle, also known as Old Saint Nick, can be traced back hundreds of years to a monk named St. Nicholas. At a young age he lost his parents inheriting a large amount of money. He had a reputation for helping the poor and giving secret gifts to people in need. Eventually a tradition developed that he would supposedly visit homes on Christmas Eve and children would place treats around the house to welcome him. As time went by, more and more was added to the Santa Claus legend. American artist, Norman Rockwell had painted many pictures of Saint Nick wearing red and white. Years after the paintings more had been added to the stories bringing about the Kris Kringle with elves and reindeer parents tell their children of today. Many have tried to make sense of it and there is no scientific evidence to validate such stories. Simply proposed, Parents should not lie about Santa Claus being real. Children are told that Santa is a real man who lives in the North Pole. Parents who lie to their children about Santa Claus being real degrade parental trustworthiness. At young ages children are natural scientist; they ask questions, form hypothesis, and conduct experiments. When they ask their parents if Santa is real or fake, most parents lie thinking it will protect their children from the truth and pain associated with that truth. Children then begin to investigate by asking others. This is where children get different stories about Santa Claus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
