Essays On Dance
1. Dance Essay
Dance
A series of set of movements to music, either alone or with a partner. That is the definition of
dancing. Dancing is a way to express one's feeling and to get active.
Dance has been a part of human history since the earliest records of human life. Cave paintings
found in Spain and France dating from 30,000 –10,000 BC. have vivid drawings of dancing figures
in association with ritual illustrating the pesents of dance in early human society. Many people
around the world see life as a dance from the movements of the heavens and the turn of the seasons
to the unique dance of every creature. The history of dance reflects the changes in the way people see
the world, relate to their bodies and experience the cycles of life. In India...show more content...
These dances eventually evolved to include praise songs and myths that were enacted by trained
dancers and actors. By the end of the 5th century BC, these dance dramas were part of
entertainment and provided social and political commentary on the times. Amongst the Romans,
dance waxed and waned in acceptance by the powers that ruled. Until 200 BC, dance brought life
to Roman processions, festivals and celebrations. However, in 150 BC all of the dancing schools
were closed as Roman nobility considered dance as suspicious and even dangerous activity of the
masses. Dancing has come a long way since ancient times. But there are still some similarities.
When people thought up these dances they were trying to express themselves, their emotions, their
problems and beliefs. Today we do the same thing. We make up dances according to our attitudes,
beliefs, thoughts and feelings. The future will also contain dances that will reflect that society.
There are many different kinds of dances. There is ballet, line dancing, slow dancing, the list goes
on and on. Some of these dances are slow. Some of them are fast. They all use different type of
instruments. Each dance representing a time, an event, an expression or feeling. Each dance
expressing something different. Dances will never die. They are too interconnected in the

2. Essay on Is Dance a Sport?
Is Dance a Sport? The endless debate between the dance world and the sports world is trying to
decide where dance fits in. Dance does require athletic ability for the technique needed. However,
dance does not fit completely into what is typically considered a sport. Some people say it cannot
be called a sport and that it is an art instead. In this argument, it is important to distinguish what type
of dancing is being discussed, as there are many different types of varying levels of difficulty. Paige
Abrams puts it this way: "You candance at a club for fun, as a hobby, as a serious passion, or you
can dance as a career" (2). Just as a person can play catch, which has some of the basic components
as baseball, it is not considered a...show more content...
When using this definition of what a sport is, there is no doubt that dance fills these
requirements. The first requirement is that it uses physical exertion and dance is extremely
physically demanding. The amount of athleticism required to perform many of the dance moves
is astounding. According to an article on aarp.com "a workout that involves jumping and turning
repeatedly for over ten minutes creates a workout similar to running a mile" (qtd in Rice 1). Most
dancers don't just dance for ten minutes: Paige Abrams states, "Teams practice for more than
twenty hours a week" (2) and Aubree James says, "Many competitive dancers practice for five
hours a day to perfect their technique, while some rep hockey teams [only] practice five hours a
week" (2). In addition to the actual dancing at practices, dance requires a lot of additional
conditioning. Lauren Allaire said, "We condition every rehearsal, which includes a six minute
plank, three hundred sit ups, fifty burpees, we run laps, and a lot more" (qtd in Abrams 2) In my
own experience, just conditioning in class still isn't enough to keep a dancers body as strong or
as flexible as it needs to be. Staying in shape requires stretching and working out every night. The
next requirement needed to be a sport is skill. Not everyone can start dancing and automatically be
great at it. Aubree James says that "if you were to ask Sydney Crosby (Canadian professional ice
hockey player) to

Music Concert essay
Extra–Credit
Dance Theater Music Art On the 3 November 2012, my classmates and I were to attend a music
dance concert in the Feddersen Recital Hall in Mount San Antonio College. we were being seat in
the circle, where I can observed most things from the floor above. The hall is quite a small grand
but in simple and elegant way, and with simple lighting. I love it although it is not as large–scale as
others performance at Los Angeles downtown. Before the performance begins, there was whispered
in the hall as the spectators were discussing what to anticipate from this dance concert and most of
them dress in semi formal. As for the performers, they carefully and delicately tune their...show more

The reason that i loved this song is because i can tell what is the story they are telling even though
i do not have to look at the name of this song. The song is very vigorous and hurried, they had
succeeded to perform the story of this theme. The second songs that i love named Waiting in the
Sky by David Bowie. At the begin, there is one person with a small television at the middle of the
stage. After a while, people came out one by one with dancing. The background light was blue, and
people all dancing with sportswear. There is two part of this theme. The first part people are
dancing ballet with the song of 1960s. The background music was soft and slow. The music began
gradually fast, and people has became faster by follow the rhythm. The song has turned to second
part, the background music is pop–music; the song is very happy and lively with their cheery
dancing. They seems like a small group people having fun together with happiness. I like this one
because their dancing has specially express two different stories to spectators. P.3 The last song was
the song that i loved the most in this performance. The background music is pop–music, performers
all dressing fashion in this theme. People were dancing hip–hop and street–dance that i really love.
In this theme, The beat is very prominent and performers dances very rhythmically, that has made me
very want to follow

4. Analysis of a Dance Essay
The dance that I will be focusing on is entitled: thinking sensing standing feeling object of attention.
The dance, to me, symbolizes the socialization of persons in Western civilization concerning gender
roles. In the beginning there are gestures that are separated from emotion and full–embodiment, but
as the dance progresses the gestures become more meaningful and recognizable. The lighting starts
out very specific and narrow, then the light encompasses the entire stage, and eventually the dancers
are silhouetted as they return to a familiar movement motif in the end. The music is mainly
instrumental with occasional soft female vocals, and the lyrics suggest emotion, which is interesting
because the dancers do not convey emotion until...show more content...
The female dancer re–enters the stage sans the blue shirt/shorts and repeats the gestures with a bit
more feeling, and the male does the same thing after the female exits. The next time the female
enters the stage, she is only in the colorful bra and black briefs. The male enters the stage in a black
bra and colorful underwear. The color in the costumes sends a message of the differences between
males and females, but the black undergarments lean towards blurring the lines of gender. The lights
get brighter as clothing is shed. The two performers fully embody the gestures now, and seem to
have more of an intimate connection with one another. The music constantly seems to be an
underscore of the dance, but does not add much to it. The dancers share weigh and partner with more
sensuality, and eventually are silhouetted with blue light as they return to gesture and awkward
ballroom partnering. The lights fade as they continue to move.
The movement is, above all else, gestural. The gestures start out as being removed from meaning
and feeling, but eventually become more sensual and fulfilled. The gestures are also what could be
considered taboo. Both dancers grab their breasts, groin, and thrust their lower bodies repeatedly
throughout the piece. As the dance progresses, the movement goes from being placed and calculated
to becoming something more reckless and passionate. There is also a lot of
