Singin In The Rain Film Analysis
The Potential of Incorporating Popular Music in Narrative Films
This essay is about the relationship between popular music and major motion pictures, with
particular focus on how popular music is used in major motion pictures, as well as how it can be
used in major motion pictures.
In exploring the capabilities offered by the utilization of existing music in narrative film, it is helpful
to note that it is motivationally different from the usage of music in a music video. For almost any
song, it will be more central to the primary motivation of the media artifact as a music video than in
a film. This is related to the reasons for creating a music video, which is in some terms the parallel
opposite of the reasons for using popular music in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ability to decipher cultural references of the music is only one of several ways in which a film
might depend on pre–existing knowledge in the audience. As an example, language functions in a
similar way. Much of the effect of the language (and therefore a large part of the film's effect) is
dependent on the audience being able to understand what the characters are saying, and this pathway
of effect is inhibited if the viewer's does not possess pre–existing knowledge of the language. The
music, as Wright argued, functions in a similar way; the films effects which utilizes the audience's
awareness of those knowledges will not happen in those audience members who do not possess

Music Streaming Services Case Study
The Competing Music Streaming Services: SoundCloud and Spotify
Humans experience a "feel good" sensation when listening to enjoyable songs, such as their
personal favorites. What causes these "feel good" feelings? Leading brain specialists today have
determined the cause to be the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine (Zatorre). Because of recent
advancements in the music industry, people are able to listen to any they would like,
anytimeessentially acquiring their music fix.
Music enthusiasts now use streaming services like Pandora, Google Play Music, iHeart
Radio, and Beats Music. Without a doubt, SoundCloud and Spotify are today's best two choices of
streaming services. Although they may appear similar, they differ in direction, ... Show more content

Many famous music artists of today have SoundCloud to thank, like the recent prominent rapper
Willie Maxwell II, known professionally as "Fetty Wap." It was April of 2014 when Maxwell II
uploaded the track "Trap Queen," which quickly became the anthem of the summer (John). By the
end of summer, "Trap Queen" had reached eleven million plays on SoundCloud, which led to a
record deal with 300 Entertainment
(Gruger). In addition to Maxwell II, SoundCloud also helped music artists like electronic dance
musician Skrillex, hip–hop rapper Post Malone, and house musician Kygo.
In contrast, Spotify's direction is to provide its listeners with songs for everyone of life's moment.
Spotify accomplishes this goal by creating playlists for specific genres and moods. For example,
such playlists include Country, R&B, Rock, Holidays, Good
Vibes, Mood Booster, Romance, Workout, and Focus. In addition, Spotify's goal is also to allow its
users to access Spotify from anywhere through the use of mediums like
Davidson 2 computers, smart phones, tablets, home entertainment systems, cars, gaming consoles,
and such.
Being strikingly different from SoundCloud, the music selection of Spotify is of the already famous
musicians of the industry. Therefore, Spotify helps broadcast and promote the 'already' well–known
music artists.
Secondly, SoundCloud's musical focus is the original–genuine songs of the up and

Analysis of Popular Music Charts
In order to determine whether a song is popular or not many people consult one of the various
popular music charts. However, do these so called 'popular music charts' accurately depict what is
considered to be popular? By thoroughly analyzing the methods of accessing the popularity of
music, Billboard Magazine uses in their top 25 dance/electronic songs for November 30th –
December 7th, 2013 this paper aims to discover whether or not popular music charts are the best
implication of what is to be considered popular. The analysis will critically examine the contents of
the chart in order to explain whether or not the methods Billboard used, accurately depict the
popularity of these songs. Whilst exposing the possible effect of using such measures of popularity.
As well, the analysis will discuss the idea of quality in relation to popularity and how the two ideas
don't always mean the same thing. According to Hinds when determining popularity "one of two
variables is used: how many were bought or viewed, or how many dollars were spent on sales or
rentals." (pp. 373) Seeing as Billboard explains that the songs are ranked by a combination of "radio
airplay audience impressions as measured by Nielsen BDS, sales data as compiled by Nielsen
SoundScan, streaming activity data by online music sources tracked by Nielsen BDS and reports
from a national sample of club DJs" (Billboard, 2013). This statement holds true for Billboard
Magazine's top 25 dance/electronic songs for November

Adorno's Critique Of Popular Music And Capitalism Analysis
Throughout history, music has been seen as a medium in which different people all over the world
can relate. Adorno criticizes, however, that songs that have the most "hits" on the top music charts
or are most listened to, otherwise known as popular music, are being produced for and consumed by
the masses as a commodity. He identifies popular music as being a part of a culture used for
capitalism, and that we as listeners, are falling into a trap in which we believe songs have
individuality and that we have the freedom to choose what we listen to. He argues that in reality
these popular songs are all standardized and made to seem different through various elements that
are added. In this paper, I will display how Adorno's critique of popular music being used for
capitalism applies to the song,1–800–273–8255, by hip–hop and rap artist Logic, through its
standardized elements in both its content and marketing; however, I will argue that although it
contains these elements, the audience is actively listening and responding to the song as it brings
awareness to mental health and suicide prevention that is changing and saving lives all around us. In
the hit hip–hop song, 1–800–273–8255, performed by Logic and featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid,
the audience is taken through the experience of someone who is contemplating suicide. The song
begins within the point of view of a person calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL),
1–800–273–8255, which is sang by Logic.

Pop Culture And Instruction Of Music Education
Pop–Culture and Instruction in Music Education In the age of the Internet and social media, current
events and pop–culture phenomena's are literally at our fingertips and because of that the question
arises, "Should we include references to pop–culture and current events in the classroom?" More
specifically, "should these topics be included in the music classroom?" This has caused some debate
between music educators many questioning if there is even a need to include current events in the
classroom discussion. In this paper, the author will attempt to shed light on those two viewpoints, as
well as discuss the benefits of both the inclusion and exclusion of pop–culture in the music
classroom.
In this paper the author will be using the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the main reasoning's given by educators and those in favor of the inclusion of pop–culture
in the classroom are that the students are more likely to become engaged in the learning process as
they are hearing current pieces of music or music they already know. They are also able to retain the
information presented as they have something to connect it to outside of the classroom.
Miguel Centellas of the University of Mississippi, writes in his article Pop Culture in the Classroom:
American Idol, Karl Marx, and Alexis de Tocqueville about his personal use of discussing television
shows in the classroom to aide in his teaching.
I chose...American Idol because [it] works particularly well for two basic reasons; (1) students are
more likely to be familiar with the show than with other (more niche) pop culture references, and (2)
the specific format and scope of American Idol makes it particularly relevant for this particular
exercise. (CITE)
Though Cantellas' use of American Idol in the classroom was at the collegiate level, it does not
negate the importance of its use in the public school classroom. The integration of pop–culture to
hone in on a concept or to make a concept more tangible to the students can help greatly with the
comprehension of the concept to the students. The use of American Idol in Cantellas' classroom was

The Impact Of Music On American Society
Throughout its history, music has permeated the significant events of American history. Its effect on
American society and the way the American people cope with each event has only grown as popular
music evolves and new genres reach more and more individuals. People can remember where they
were and their exact surroundings to amazing detail when asked about life–changing events in
history. Older generations will remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Their children will
remember when Kennedy was assassinated and when man walked on the moon. Their grandchildren
will remember much of the turmoil of the '70s and '80s and their great grandchildren grew up in the
world impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. Even one's surroundings during the start or
end of a relationship or personal events such as graduation, getting a driver's license, or getting
married can all be paired with the music that was popular at the time.
As someone who grew up in Europe and came to America with my family in 2004, my introduction
to new American popular music was not as organic as it was to actual Americans. What I was
exposed to came from movies and TV shows that made their way over and eventually what I was
able to gather as the Internet became more widespread. My parents were introduced in the same
way, mostly by TV and movies but the chronology was often confusing. There was no sense that the
Beatles came after Elvis and what events these songs could be linked to. They simply existed as fun

Effects Of Pop Music

the most popular being pop music. You're so used of everything you're heard. But have you ever
wondered how much it has actually evolved? It's important because this generation is mostly about
trendy music and pop but it was way different back then.
According to Digital Music And Audio, "overall, the emotional effect of our favorite music has
tended right towards the "happy medium and sad vibe' " so it seems to be more balanced.

They shifted from sappy, to upbeat and dark– partying, lusting, loving, living and losing." Everyone
seems to have become more interest in different things, and people are more blunt and honest in
their songs. Which relates back to Scientific American, "linguistic analysis show that popular song
lyrics have become more self–focused and antisocial (violence and profanity)"
According to Glenn Mcdonald Traced "As time marches on, its beat has grown increasingly
consistent doe to drum machines, click tracks and the like." Back when all drummers were humans,
the tempo used to drift more, within songs. Today we have some songs where every note is exactly
quantized and locked onto the tempo. There's research into how loud music has really struck a
chord. Music has really grown louder over time, as part of the so called "loudness wars." Music is
faster now too, We liked our music fastest during the "go–go" 80's. The music grew again in the
mid–90's and now it's back to being just about as fast as ever." It gets people more hyped, everyone
seems to be so energized in this generation.
"Music has changed overtime mirrors the way technology changed." Quoran says. Music evolved
because the delivery system improved most ancient instruments were percussion, strings, or some
sort of flute or horn. As time progressed the models developed sharps and flats and soon became
condensed into two scales and keys, major and minor." As time went by,

Ben–Hur ends the classical era film score. Multiple characteristics can be heard throughout the

been used which suggest antique music. The first three chords of the score makes a unique sound
and lack the Western triads, these chords move in parallel motions (Hickman, Reel Music, 241).

Creativity Essay
In your own experience, how has your creativity developed through using digital technologies to
complete your coursework productions?
Creativity has been defined in several different ways by various media theorists. In 1997, Bentley
explained creativity as 'The making of the new and rearranging of the old'. This is something that
throughout the course of the project from the preliminary tasks to the main products I have been
able to do. At the start of the course, we analysed the contents pages and front covers of college
magazines and had to create our own original college magazine. However, despite creating a new
product, we still had to take inspiration and follow codes and conventions from the college
magazines we had previously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All magazines receive some degree of feedback from customers, whether this be filling out reviews
and surveys on the content, writing in to try and win competitions or even complaining about the
use of grammar and the English language, although this is something typically seen more frequently
in newspaper broadsheets. The physical act of this communication though, leads us to a theory from
Banaji, Burn & Buckingham in 2006. They say that technology allows us to be creative when
we are not inherently so, and though I feel that as a species, humans are creative, I think that
technology allows us to take this even further. Initially we drew the rough drafts for our magazine
front covers and contents pages on paper as an indication of how we wanted them to look. Some of
these drawings were creative and interesting; however, actually creating them on a computer, using
photoshop, InDesign and photographs that we had taken ourselves, this allowed us to complete the
products with a greater degree of professionalism and a more vibrant, interesting look. Also, with
the advancement of technology in the 21st century, consumers can be more creative regarding how
they communicate with the magazine – something which we had to be aware of when creating it.

The Critique Of World Music
Introduction
Is it a bird...is it a plane...? This is too "shay"... World Music Cliché?!
When dissecting music, we mainly tend to pay attention to its ethnicity, culture, whether or not its
indigenous, traditional or tribal. World music is flavoured by native music culture. Often native
music is considered sacred or used to dissolve egos and ignite their awareness of spiritual fire!
Ever listen to a piece of music and think, "I've heard this before?"
Western civilisation has forgotten about centuries–old reincarnations. Even in languages: The
English seem to forget about its Germanic Constructs.
We could consider World Music as a Pseudo–musical term in marketing...
We complain about this matter because of its ability to relegate something for its exotic experience;
cute, weird but safe, exotica is beautiful but irrelevant. The subtle way within in reasserts the
hegemony of Western Pop Culture. The context of world music has become so analogous. The fact
that we can appreciate it on the radio, T.V, internet etc. we also train our ears consciously and
subconsciously to adapt to Euro–American ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this way, world music is exploited for financial gain. One may argue that this is simply an
alternative manner of promoting world music, but the purpose of the artist is to promote him or
herself, not the world music as a style or its corresponding culture. The exploitation of world music
and aspects thereof also contributes to the loss of the music's unique character, as it is performed
outside of the context for which it was designed and for reasons other than those for which it was
created. The fact that artists make use of world music or its characteristics in order to make a profit

Is Music Killing Humanity?
The music industry is one of the most powerful and influential method that sends subliminal
messages to influence people's poor decisions; Today's music has captured the attention of
adolescents and the younger generation more than ever before by glamorizing all the negative
aspects. Although, music can be soothing and relaxing, many teenagers are mostly impacted by the
powerful lyrics that are sung by their idols. Consequently, many teenagers throughout America are
following their role models and are developing serious destructive behaviors that cause bodily harm
to themselves. Sadly, the younger generation does not understand the negative messages that are
clearly being exposed throughout our society. Music should be inspiring and ... Show more content

But why does our society continue to encourage the music that we listen to everyday? Clearly music
represents, explains, or puts into words an idealized view of life, therefore, it brings energy and
motivation to young adults to try and "fit in" and become "cool" or "accepted" like their idols. For
example, Justin Beaver is a good example of how influential celebrities can be, it is incredible
because if Justin Beaver cuts himself, his fans will cut themselves too or if Justin smokes weed of
course his fans will follow as well. Moreover, the article "Media Representations of Drinking, Drug
Use, and Smoking," states, "Marijuana was the drug that appeared most often in these songs, with
other references to crack and powdered cocaine, heroin, and hallucinogens." For example, Three Six
Mafia, a famous rap gang, promotes the use of marijuana by saying, "What's up Mary? Mary Jane
since I have met ya girl you ruined my brain, you stole my heart, right from the start, so I broke you
down, lil momma put you in the gar," in their popular song "Weed, Blow, Pills." Three Six Mafia is
obviously introducing and encouraging the use of marijuana by making it sound amazing and
unforgettable. Or how about the rapper Snoop Dogg? who has openly discussed his love of smoking

War Propaganda Song Essay
The songs from World War I range from dark humor to sarcastic attempts to bitter complaints about
soldier's lifestyles during war. Based on what I've heard and read, most of the lyrics are propaganda
for young men to join the war. These songs usually portray the conditions of soldiers in the war in a
good light. Another significant portion are love songs that soldiers sing to remind them of their wife
that they left at home with their children. Finally, a very small portion is the the anti–war songs that
are strictly prohibited in music halls, the most popular form of popular song, where music is played
for the common folk who couldn't afford their own gramophones.

This song is sung from a prostitute's point of view; basically, she is saying that she everyone that
fights for the war makes her proud as a woman and she'd gladly sleep with anyone who does. The
dark part of the song is that she lures in these unsuspecting men and makes them join the military
when they think they are going to be able to get down with her and her other friends.
One last example is Over There sung by Henry Burr:
Johnnie, get your gun, get your gun, get your gun,
Take it on the run, on the run, on the run,
Hear them calling you and me, ev 'ry son of liberty
Hurray right away, no delay, go today

soldiers inspire in others when they fight in the war, making it very ideal for those who want to
impress their parents and wives. Songs like these have had a huge impact on societies all over the

Drugs And Drugs
Drugs, alcohol, and violence: three major problems in our society. As you have most likely already
heard on the news, these issues are not improving. Instead, they are running rampant in today's
world. With constant acts of terrorism and alcohol commercials making drinking look attractive,
music that promotes these serious matters are not helping the cause. Listeners are getting constantly
battered with examples of how these three things are not as destructive to yourself as they truly are.
An artist has the power to negatively influence his or her audience if the artist discusses drugs,
alcohol, or violence in his or her content. An artist is able to glamorize drug use through his or her
lyrics in a song. Artists affiliate drugs, such as marijuana, with "creativity, wealth and status"
(Yang). As rappers and hip–hop artists promote drugs, such as marijuana, as a creative outlet,
children and teens may also want to feel like they have power and creativity. They will start to try
these drugs that the artists discussed in hopes of having the same experience. Many celebrities are
artists who create music, and these people have others that look up to them. Rappers are popular
role models, especially to younger audiences, because many young people listen to rap (Yang).
People often look up to role models and admire them. Sometimes, people dress and talk like his or
her role model or even do what they do. If someone sees a role model doing drugs, that person
might do drugs as well to be just like their idol.
Chart toppers in 2005 mentioned drugs within the top songs: "...found that Billboard's 279 most
popular songs in 2005, a staggering 77% of the sixty–two rap songs portrayed substance abuse"
(Yang). With songs on the Billboard top charts such as Drop It Like It's Hot by Snoop Dogg and
Pharrell Williams or Hate It or Love It by The Game featuring 50 Cent, these songs, as well as
others, talk about doing or selling drugs. These songs that adorn drugs could lead kids into
consuming these drugs and thinking that it is all right to do these illegal drugs that were discussed in
the song. In the end, these mainstream drugs that are praised in songs will not help the listener; they

Music Has Impacted Our World
Music has impacted our world in many ways, and it does not start with us. It has its beginnings with
our ancestors. Music has not only been known for "vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a
way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion" but also for a way that you
can express your emotions, aim social problems or entertainment. Music has been evolving since it
was first introduced to our world, and each era has had their own ups and downs with gender
equalities, racism, political problems, and acceptance of the society. For example, 1960s was a
decade marred by social unrest, civil rights injustice, and violence both home and abroad. These
were some of the factors that lead to a cultural revolution. During these times, we could see how
many artists aimed at these concerns through their lyrics, but the eighties had a big impact in our
society. During this decade, The United States felt more liberalistic, and New ideologies were
presented to our society, also Sex and drugs became the focus of many of the lyrics expressed by the
artists. The eighties were a different decade. People in The United States felt free to achieve
anything that they would wanted to. The 1980s reflected the beginning of a period of great income
disparity and a focus on affluence was reflected in the music, but "when it came to music during the
decade, nothing was understated, not the sound, not the fashion, not even the charity" The impact of

Adorno Criticize Pop Music
Moreover, Adorno criticizes pop music because it leads audiences to passive reaction. Adorno
argues that pop music tends to produce passive reactions, referring to an insect who has the jitters,
who is passively by light ("On Popular Music" 45). But, in reality, audiences' reactions to pop songs
are more active than he believes. For instance, Braca reviews the song by criticizing how social
perception about girls is skewed to the one side ("The One Thing"). More specifically, she first
explains how people have a stereotypical image of girls which is someone who manages appearance
in feminine features. For this reason, people generally imagine feminine outfit rather than causal one

Do Behavioral Issues Caused By Violence
Do behavioral issues caused by violence in the media manifest American society? Mass media
researcher, Cecilia von Feilitzen (Stockholm University, Sweden), cautions against distorting a
complex problem. Feilitzen believes, "there has been too much focus on the causal relations
between media exposure and violence in society, with a failure to differentiate among different
kinds of influences" (McLellan). People are quick to blame television violence for behavioral
activities that children demonstrate, without realizing that there are other important factors that also
play a role in such behavior, for example, violence in the real world. For the most part, while some
people contemplate that the news for instance, is full of violence, Times Mirror, a nationwide survey
found that (of 1,516 Americans conducted February 20–23) that comparing today's generation with
those of the 1980's believe that the news amplifies the expanse of violence in America (Pew
Research Center). Violence is seen throughout society, not just in the media. The problem with
society is that they think that by impeding children from watching certain things, it will be less
likely for them to follow in the same footsteps. Even so, if that was completely true, why is it that
some of those exact children end up with a worst criminal background than those who actually grew
up watching TV violence as a child? What children watch, may have some impact on their
adulthood, but that is beside the point. It does not

Cave Allegory Plato Related To The Cave
INTRO: When thinking of education, most children groan and whine about learning. However, they
don't realize that they have been learning for their entire life. Their education started when they
were first born, and it has changed and shaped them into the character they are now. This idea was
first thought of by Plato, another philosophy he had was of a cave. In this Cave Allegory, there are
prisoners lined up against a wall so they can't move their head to look elsewhere. Behind the
prisoners there is a fire creating shadows on the wall where they are forced to look. A person comes
in and unties one and shows him the fire, then later he shows him the outside of the cave. At first the

There are many lessons to be learned from movies, most don't see the connection to Plato. Movies
have a huge impact on how one acts, Shapiro has written an article on how movies can influence
one's reaction. He states, "The influence popular movies exert on public attitudes and behavior,"
(Shapiro). Movies educate children on how to act. One movie, for instance, follows the cave
allegory quite well. Recently a Disney movie came out call, "The Croods." This movie is about a
family who is stuck in a cave for many days and only exits the cave to scavenge for food, when their
cave is destroyed they partake on a journey to find a new home, but learn to embrace the light
instead. They also learn how important family is, and they found a way to educate a member of the
family to follow the light. Plato touches this subject as well, he states, "Be willing to descend again
to those prisoners and to share their troubles and their honors," (Book 7). Don't let anyone be left

Kaiser Chiefs Pros And Cons
Let's summarise: from 2004 onward Kaiser Chiefs aimed for the stars with hits such as "Oh My
God" and "Ruby". Unfortunately, the experimental release of 2011's album The Future is Medieval,
for which fans could pick a ten–song track list out of 23 options, turned out to be one step too far,
causing the band to fall back into obscurity. Its follow–up, Education, Education, Education and War
should have meant a return to former glory, but failed. Now it is time for a new album, the band
uses their position in the shadows of the industry to reinvent themselves.
The differences between the previous and current Kaiser Chiefs' sound could not have been any
bigger. The working–class rock this quintet used to produced has vanished completely, making way
for synthpop. Instead of their guitar–oriented sound, the lads from Leeds are inspired by disco, trap,

Just like frontman Wilson has announced before, his social–political lyrics on Education, Education,
Education and War have been replaced by love–songs with lines such as "There's a hole in my soul
that could only be filled by you". "Sunday Morning" is the final remainder of the typical British
every–day life more commonly described in Kaiser Chiefs' songs. Finally, the most entertaining

Censorship And Its Effect On Children
Namita Sharma Mr. McCormick 2/19/2015 ENG 3U1 Monkey See, Monkey Do Monkey see,
monkey do, a simple phrase relevant to today's society. Those in society that simply do not know
any better, such as children, are inclined to imitate what they see being done. Without censorship
daily television shows are increasingly exhibiting more violence, foul language and sexuality to
susceptible youth. Due to lack of censorship, explicit music lyrics and inappropriate images on
music videos are being introduced to impressionable children. There is a lack of control on the
internet leading to internet addiction and forces vulnerable adolescents to face cyber bullying. In a
variety of mediums not enough censorship is used, which influences impressionable youth to think
and behave negatively. The increasing amount of violence, foul language and sexuality available to
children on TV is harmful to their development. What was once a time for children to watch TV
with content suitable for their age is now directed for an older audience, Family Hour. Statistics
show that this is the time most children are watching television with their family members. Despite

Analysis Of The Pop Song Shape Of You
The pop–song Shape of You by Ed Sheeran follows a pattern that Adorno has argued to be the
formula for a song to become a hit pop song. Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac produced Shape of You
under the Asylum Label and Atlantic Label (ACE Repertory 1). Ed Sheeren is a singer–songwriter
and guitarist from England that creates pop music since 2004 (The Academy of Contemporary
Music, 1). On January 16, 2017, he released his album, ÷. By February 18, Shape of You became the
#1 most popular song, keeping that position for eleven weeks (Billboard, 1). The popularity of this
song can be explained through Adorno's writing, On Popular Music. Adorno was from the Frankfurt
School, known for claiming that the media is extremely influential to the point that ... Show more

The fact that replicating a seventeen–years–old song can still become a hit in 2017, demonstrates
that there is a pre–designed pattern for popular music in which changing a few characteristics to
make a new songs sound "unique" can still result in success. For this reason, Adorno argues that the
music industry produces music in an "industrial" way––popular music is centralized in its pattern
and modifies some characteristics to seem "individualistic." Though Shape of You and No Scrubs
contain different keys, tempo, and of course, lyrics, they both rely on a chord progression of i–ic–
VI–VII in a common time (MusicNotes, 1 & FindSongTempo, 1). Shape of you takes advantage that
the audience is accustomed to listening to the same pattern and it is modified to fit the current era
and thus, result in a significant monetary income.
Not only does Shape of You contains structural standardization as an imitation of past songs, but
also includes repetition of words and chords within the song to make it it simpler and more
digestible. Adorno explains that, in order for people to accept a song, they need to recognize it––and
repetition is a way to achieve familiarization (Adorno, 32). Though Shape of You includes various
instruments including a marimba, the whole song is written in the key of C#m and there are only
four chords played throughout the song: Bm, Em, G, and A (Sheeran). Furthermore, from the
ninety–three lines in Shape of You, only sixteen

Order and Chaos
Order and chaos are related to and dependent on each other. The clear cut distinction between them
is man made and an illusion. Society uses order to regulate all aspects of the world from nature to
personal lives, while chaos allows for open mindedness and also provides an explanation for certain
aspects of the world. This can be seen in science, theology, music, language, and imaginative play.
Science is rational, logical, and orderly. It has the ability to break apart complex systems into
simpler ones described by theories ad equations. This is seen in the description of the planets' orbits,
evolution, and Newton's laws. Scientists have a thirst for knowledge and seek understanding about
the world around them. Their methods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anthropology, fossils, and other material evidence provide proof of evolution by similarities
between organisms of the past and present ,including the controversial belief that humans evolved
from apes. All these discoveries discredit the belief that humans were created to posses dominion
over the world, and all that was created has existed from the beginning. The five percent of
fundamentalists that are radical and use violence and other unusual means to support their views
have made fundamentalism seem extreme and crazy. They discriminate against other Christians,
who do not have their same views, and deem them not real Christians. They are also completely
intolerant of other religions, offering no salvation outside their faith. Throughout the ages these two
groups have clashed as seen in the trial of Galileo. The common denominator in Galileo's trial ,and
other controversies between the ideologies is each group's stubbornness and intolerance of other
views. One view can not exist without the other ,and they are both impractical and incomplete. The
joining of the two is essential for a human being and the world as a whole. This point is clearly
illustrated in the Library of Babel where all was known ,yet chaos was rampant because no faith
could exist.
Music can sometimes sound random, chaotic, and spontaneous but all music has a certain structure

Music And Its Impact On Music
Since the early days of human existence, sweet sounds of music have brought joy to the human race.
However, throughout time, music seems to have taken a bit of a detour as progress is concerned.
Music gradually became more complex and advanced as the centuries progressed. On the other
hand, recently, music seems to have deviated from its steady ascension toward the next, more
advanced stage. Has there been a recession in the complexity and overall "magic" of music?
Personally, I believe that there is a lot of truth to this concept of "relapse". Over the course of
musical expression, inventions of different instruments and music theory concepts were created and
used to benefit the science and progression of music through time. Throughout each period of music
that we studied, the music changed based on the culture and the technology that was prevalent
within its respective time period. Music found in the baroque period, for instance, is very complex
and involves the use of several different musical voices. When we look at a lot of the mainstream
music of modern day, it is very easy to realize that we have definitely taken a step backwards.
Nowadays, the popular "musical artworks" that are being released lack complexity or any kind of
variation at all. Modern pop music has really hit a stand still. One of the most characteristic aspects
of a modern pop song is the repetition that is used throughout most songs. Honestly, anyone who
has a decent ear for music

Sexism in Music Essay
How do we choose the music that we listen to? We could be affected by the music itself, the lyrics
could touch us on a personal level, or we may have a predisposition to a certain genre of music due
to the geographic area we live in. Our background and upbringing can even play a role in our
musical choices. However we come to that ultimate decision, how many of us actually pay close
attention to the language used in the songs that we like? Could it be that some of our favorite artists
or compositions actually contain language that can be considered sexist or harmful? Many people
associate sexist language with the music genre of rap and hip/hop, but the truth is that sexist

A Song Analysis: Blurred Lines
All throughout the summer a song was constantly blasting through speakers singing about blurred
lines, but what lines are being blurred?
Blurred Lines is a popular summer song that is constantly played on the radio. A song like "Blurred
Lines" should not be played on public radio. A big problem with "Blurred Lines" is that it attempts
to normalize disrespectful behavior towards women. Robin Thicke teamed up with rapper T.I. and
singer–producer Pharrell to deliver arguably this summer's most popular song. The song "Blurred
Lines" has placed number one on the billboard hot 100 and has sold over one million copies.
Critical reception of the track is mostly positive. Yet with the success comes a not so positive
response. When first listening to the song a person might find themselves nodding your head to a
catchy tune, but perhaps once a person listens closely to the lyrics some people may not want this
song on their iPods.
Summer hit "Blurred Lines" is one of the radio's most played songs currently. The song is placed at
number one on America's top 40 charts for the week of September 14th. While it is popular, the
lyrics paint a story of someone who wants the singer, but is a good girl. The message of the song is
blurring lines of morality. Not only is the song soliciting sexual themes, but it goes as far as using
derogatory names towards the said good girl. Also, the song has strong themes of guilting someone
into sex, claiming that not many can refuse T.I.'s pimping. The song

Music Censorship
Healthy debates have been caused by today's music. Generally, foul language has rapidly increased
within modern popular song lyrics, especially among rap and heavy metal artists' songs. An increase
in explicit violence and misogyny in popular music lyrics has been recorded. These lyrics have been
judged to be inspirations for violent, suicidal, and criminal acts. For example, Mr. Raymond Kuntz
referred to his son's incident. ''When his wife went to wake their son for school, they found him
dead of a gunshot wound, still wearing his headphones with Marilyn Manson's Anti–Christ
Superstar CD still in the player. The boy's favorite song was ''The Reflecting God (Nina Crowley,

protected if storeowners do not follow the restrictions. The most popular music of children under the
age of twenty–one is rap and heavy metal, which are the two leading participants in the foul
language controversy (Volz 18). Knowing this, storeowners should heavily enforce the underage
laws. However, One American boy noted the ease of buying profane music albums in spite of his
age of fifteen years (Crowley). If storeowners continue to sell obscene heavy metal and rap music to
under aged children, then the society will only worsen.
I believe this foul music should be much further restricted from people that it could harm. The
younger citizens of America are most influenced by today's music; therefore the restriction levels
that have been placed upon it should be enforced. Obviously the laws are not yet strong enough to
deny young people of the possession of profane music.
Children still obtain ''stickered'' CD's, despite the child's age. If this awful music is available to

How Society Perpetuates Overcoming Adolescents
How Society Perpetuates Obstacles in Adolescents Adolescents are faced daily with the temptations
of using/abusing drugs and/or alcohol. Even with parents and schools trying to steer our youth today
away from using they get sucked in by all forms of advertising that lead them to believe that by
saying "yes" to using a controlled substance they will be much more 'lively.' If advertising didn't
have such an impacted and work, these companies wouldn't be spending the billions of dollars that
they do (Strasburger, V., 2010). When advertising, companies take advantage of celebrities, music

such a huge impacted on our adolescents and as time progresses the music and our adolescents

known as Hannah Montana young girls looked up to her and now the lyrics to her songs, "we like to

more fun. Given that the average teenager listens to 2.4 hours of music a day and thus hears about

Popular Music And Folk Music
Every culture has some tradition of music. Music is a part of both folk and popular culture
traditions, it can be utilized to illustrate the differences in the origin, diffusion, and distribution of
folk and popular culture. Music reflects a country's ethnic population through a diverse array of
styles. Folk and popular music shows the distinction in people's everyday lives. The more developed
a country is the more likely that MDC will have popular music and the less developed a country is
the more likely that LDC will have folk music. Folk music and Popular music have to do mainly
with a country's economic social and cultural status.
Folk songs tell a story or convey information about daily activities such as farming, life–cycle
events (birth, death, and marriage), or mysterious events such as storms and earthquakes. Folk
music has origins dating back to 2697 BC in china, when the Emperor Huang Ti sent Ling Lun to
cut bamboo poles that would produce a sound matching the call of the phoenix bird. In reality, folk
songs are usually composed anonymously and transmitted orally. A song may be modified from one
generation to the next as conditions change, but the content is most often derived from events in
daily life that are familiar to the majority of the people. In Vietnam, where most people are
subsistence farmers, information about agricultural technology is conveyed through folk songs. An
example of folk music is the music of Jamaica. Mento draws from many of Jamaica's

Ever long for the good ol' days of music? If so, Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ) can take you back to
whenever those glory days might have been. Imagined and created by Scott Bradlee, a trained jazz
pianist, PMJ takes popular music from today or the recent past and remakes it in all kinds of vintage
genres, from 30's jazz, to Motown, to bluegrass hoedown. The group consists of around forty artists,
many of whom are classically trained, that put out weekly videos featuring any various combination
of them at a time. These videos are put up on their Youtube channel and regularly gain millions of
views each. Because of their internet inception, PMJ has bypassed the existing music industry
almost entirely, and, in spite of that, has been able to remain profitable through producing music.
This is unique indeed, as even artists that sign on with major label companies are often left in the
red. This paper will analyze PMJ's method for achieving success outside of the traditional music
industry, will look at how their music fits in the broader landscape of popular music, and will show
that their approach to producing music is a good, reproducible model for other artists to follow.

Country Music and Eric Church
Country music is a genre that some might absolutely love and some might absolutely hate. It is a
style of music that developed in the southern and western U.S. and often contains lyrics relating to
the lives of people who live in the country. While there are a lot of different types of country music,
a very popular country artist of this time is Eric Church. Church brings a bit of a twist to country
music, with really telling us how he feels. Talking about one of his songs in particular, "homeboy"
about a lost young man needing to "come on home, boy." Eric Church is a good ole' country boy
from Granite Falls, North Carolina. At thirteen is when Church started writing songs and playing
guitar. His passion for music grew later in life and he moved to Nashville, where he was signed with
Sony Tree Records. His last album Chief won Album of the Year from both the CMA and ACM in
the last awards cycle, as it probably should have compared to its competition. Eric Church will
never win the popularity contests like "Entertainer" or "Male Vocalist" categories because he has
made more enemies than friends in the industry and beyond. But his music's unpredictability is the
magic quotient that can't be denied, and continues to win him loyal fans. Church's song "Homeboy"
takes the form of a pep talk by a satisfied rural farmer to a prodigal son wandering astray through
urban culture. Church thinks that he'd be better off drinking a beer, baling hay, and hanging out with
his high school

Feminism Of Hip Hop And Rap Music
Introduction:
Hip Hop or Rap music is often related to themes of misogyny and objectification towards women
(Weitzer and Kubrin 2009 ; Gourdine and Lemmons 2011).
Ruby M. Gourdine and Brianna P. Lemmons specifically state that misogynistic themes began to
gain prominence in the genre during the late 1980s. I would suggest that the prevalence of
objectification and misogyny in hip hop could pose a threat to a positive self image for females,
exposed to this form of media.
What is objectification? The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines objectification, as "the
seeing and/or treating a person, usually a woman, as an object(Papadaki, 2015). Rae Langton asserts
two key aspects to feminist objectification theory which I believe ... Show more content on

Both Minaj and Azalea are highly influential figures as a result of their success, within pop culture,

Selection and Justification for Medium Of Analysis:
For my analysis I specifically chose to investigate the top three most popular music videos from
both Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea. I determined there popularity based on the number of views the
official videos had on their respective Youtube Vevo Channels. Popularity of the videos was an
important factor as this content would seemingly have the most far reaching impact, as a result of
the scale of viewers. Further, I avoided selecting videos based on their direct relevance to my
research question as doing so could impact the validity of my findings negatively, as videos choosen
based on relevance could be influenced by preconceptual biases. Overall, music videos were
selected as the medium of analyzation as videos are a visual representation of the topics and themes
of a given song. In addition, music videos can provide a broadened and enriched creative concept in

thousands of years, but yet we still do not have a good rating system for music. Music is not
officially rated, but given a "Parental Advisory Label" if the artist or record label believes the music
contains any "explicit" content. This label was created and adopted by the Recording Industry
Association of America(RIAA) in 1985. Even though this label has been around since 1985, it is not
a good system for rating music, and is potentially harming artists and the consumer. Parents could

In addition to this, a new rating system is needed to help protect the consumer. As shown before
music has changed, and this change affects the consumer. In rap and hip–hop music drug abuse is
glorified and shown as a positive thing. Children, who do not know any better, hear this music and

researchers from the University of California, Berkeley found that there was sixfold increase in drug
references in songs over the past two decades (Preidt 1). This proves how drug references has
increased exponentially since the "Parental Advisory Label" was created. Additionally, the dean of
students at the School of Public Health stated "Positive portrayals of drug use have increased over
time, and drug references increased overall. This is an alarming trend, as rap artists are role models
for the nation's youth, especially in urban areas. Many of these young people are already at risk and

The, Blurred Lines, By Robin Thicke
On March 26, 2013, Robin Thicke released the single "Blurred Lines", a song that went on to be the
longest running number one single of 2013 (Dredge 1). Thicke anticipated gaining fame from the
song's catchy beat, but the song would also bring him infamy, as many thought the song promoted
misogyny and rape culture. Thicke's hit single eventually reignited a debate over the role of sexism
and misogyny in pop culture and music lyrics in particular. A brief analysis of contemporary popular
music evidences that sexist and misogynistic themes are prominent within the lyrical content of
many songs. Once one recognizes the almost undeniable sexism in a significant amount of popular
music, it begs the question how to address this issue, if at all. Many feminists and harsh critics
deride such sexist music and seek to ban and censor sexist songs. Others believe that chastising
sexist artists can be useful, but banning such music is an inappropriate response. Others chose to
ignore this issue, as they are ultimately indifferent to the prevalence of sexism in modern culture. In
my opinion, many popular songs have disturbingly sexist implications and, while it is inappropriate
to ban such songs, it is worth analyzing this issue and denouncing artists who are blatantly
misogynistic. A brief analysis of the lyrical content of many popular songs substantiates the fact that
sexism and misogyny are significant problems within music today. In an article called Music and

Social media is a great way to do so; salesmen or companies just have to post their product and
information on their page, and all you need to do is check out a review or a video link and judge the
product (Duda, 2011). Also, social media is a chance for companies to show people that their more
than just a logo, it makes people feel that they're chatting with another person, not dealing with a
faceless company. "Believe it or not people tend to trust their friends more than their companies. But
there's nothing that says your brand can't be their friend too" (Duda, 2011). This shows that not only
can u accept people as friends on social networks, you can also add and accept companies and get to
know them and their products, and trust them as if they were your friends. People usually tend to
trust recommendations from other people they know, and that's what social networks like Facebook
provide. Social media is taking over, and it will continue to do so in the coming decades, because by
far it's the easiest, most efficient mean of communication on a very wide range. You can literally
know what's happening in the whole world with one click. That's why social media can become a

The phrase that was taught to the dancers was created with the intention of being neutral; lacking
specific tempo, dynamic and emotive or narrative qualities, to avoid influencing the dancers in
terms of suggesting specific performative attributes. This desired absence of qualities was in attempt
to provide the research with a control method, to aid the validity of the comparison results.
The dancers revealed in Part 1 of the questionnaire that the phrase possessed a tempo, as all three

occupied more of the general space (Appendix F, Observer 1, p40). The dancer's articulation of the

emotion is closely linked to the architecture of movement, as explored by Rudolf Laban (Laban,

Western Music: The American Identity
Formation and propagation of the "western" genre by pioneers allowed new immigrants to find a
cohesive "American" identity within an expansive, disorganized, and often hostile country.
However, this "American" identity is not readily defined, and to this day, historians, political
scientists, social scientists and the like struggle to label what exactly is the "American" identity. Is it
something born out of a shared cultural experience? Is it something received at birth? For new
immigrants, often white Europeans, the west acted as a musical crossroads, a testing ground, for
racial and ethnic mixing in the western lands so far from the "civilized" Eastern towns and cities.

Music played an important role in the daily life of pioneers; as the journey was physically rigorous,
emotionally draining as well as boring, music helped emigrants cope with these experiences by
providing a distraction that was community–oriented with words that reflected internal feelings and
familiar melodies of home. For women, singing helped express the despondency they felt about
arrival in the west; singing around a campfire, when possible, was a social way to end a long day of
travel and helped offset melancholy (Schlissel, 179). In 1849, a young woman named Catherine
Haun and her husband decided to head out west; her account of the journey west describes the
importance of music as a way to keep spirits up and stave off depression: "The familiar tunes that he
played upon his harmonica seemed to soften the groaning and creaking of the wagons and to shorten
the long miles of the mountain road (Schlissel, 179)." Later on, this image of singing around a
campfire would become deeply embedded in American pop culture. However, popular songs of the
1850s also depicted the victorian ideal of a "good death" as something that occurred in the home or
with the family––a victorian ideal of a respectable, Christian death surrounded by friends and family
in the home (Schlissel, 131). Pioneer family and friends gathered beside the deathbed in order to
comfort the dying, and popular music reflected the desire for this in a life where death from disease
or other threats was constant (Schlissel,

Literary Characters Of Harry Potter
What do you think is the most recognized name in the world? Perhaps, it is Beyonce; or maybe
Donald Trump. However, when this question is asked specifically looking for a literary character's
name, we are still left with a myriad of choices. Huckleberry Finn, Sherlock Holmes, Matilda, and
Harry Potter are just a few of the thousands of popular characters in literature. Many are so popular
that a film is created from their novels. One of the most recognized novel collections that have been
made into a movie franchise is the Harry Potter collection. This is a multi–billion dollar franchise
that has captured the world for decades. It is based on a young boy named Harry Potter, who faces
many struggles throughout his magical journey at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only traits that don't change are the ones that he has inherited from his parents. He receives his
facial structure from his dad and his eyes from his mother. Numerous other traits that Harry has, are
traits that both of his parents possess. Almost all of the bodily features that are described in the
novels, are also shown in the movies; just with slight variations. There are a few subtle differences
in Harry's appearances that can be found in the movies. Harry Potter is well known in the novel for
having, "his mother's green eyes".(J.K. Rowling Quotes) However, in the movie Daniel
Radcliff's(Harry Potter) eyes are blue. This may seem insignificant, but since it is accentuated in the
novel, it is hard to ignore. Another, more noticable difference is Harry's scar. It is illustrated in the
The Philosopher's Stone as being located in the center of Harry's forehead. Although, in all of the
movies, it is located directly above his right eye. One of Harry Potter's qualities that cannot be
shown, but is still pivotal to the plot is his personality. Many of the similarities between the novels
and the movies can be found by interpreting Harry's personality. Life experiences are the main
ingredient in the makings of his personality. A notable characteristic is his bravery. Bravery allows
Harry to save Hogwarts, his friends, and the whole world. Whether it be, keeping the sorcerer's
stone out of the hands of evil or saving the world from the dark

Singin In The Rain Film Analysis

  • 1. Singin In The Rain Film Analysis The Potential of Incorporating Popular Music in Narrative Films This essay is about the relationship between popular music and major motion pictures, with particular focus on how popular music is used in major motion pictures, as well as how it can be used in major motion pictures. In exploring the capabilities offered by the utilization of existing music in narrative film, it is helpful to note that it is motivationally different from the usage of music in a music video. For almost any song, it will be more central to the primary motivation of the media artifact as a music video than in a film. This is related to the reasons for creating a music video, which is in some terms the parallel opposite of the reasons for using popular music in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ability to decipher cultural references of the music is only one of several ways in which a film might depend on pre–existing knowledge in the audience. As an example, language functions in a similar way. Much of the effect of the language (and therefore a large part of the film's effect) is dependent on the audience being able to understand what the characters are saying, and this pathway of effect is inhibited if the viewer's does not possess pre–existing knowledge of the language. The music, as Wright argued, functions in a similar way; the films effects which utilizes the audience's awareness of those knowledges will not happen in those audience members who do not possess those ... • 2. Music Streaming Services Case Study The Competing Music Streaming Services: SoundCloud and Spotify Humans experience a "feel good" sensation when listening to enjoyable songs, such as their personal favorites. What causes these "feel good" feelings? Leading brain specialists today have determined the cause to be the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine (Zatorre). Because of recent advancements in the music industry, people are able to listen to any they would like, anytimeessentially acquiring their music fix. Music enthusiasts now use streaming services like Pandora, Google Play Music, iHeart Radio, and Beats Music. Without a doubt, SoundCloud and Spotify are today's best two choices of streaming services. Although they may appear similar, they differ in direction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many famous music artists of today have SoundCloud to thank, like the recent prominent rapper Willie Maxwell II, known professionally as "Fetty Wap." It was April of 2014 when Maxwell II uploaded the track "Trap Queen," which quickly became the anthem of the summer (John). By the end of summer, "Trap Queen" had reached eleven million plays on SoundCloud, which led to a record deal with 300 Entertainment (Gruger). In addition to Maxwell II, SoundCloud also helped music artists like electronic dance musician Skrillex, hip–hop rapper Post Malone, and house musician Kygo. In contrast, Spotify's direction is to provide its listeners with songs for everyone of life's moment. Spotify accomplishes this goal by creating playlists for specific genres and moods. For example, such playlists include Country, R&B, Rock, Holidays, Good Vibes, Mood Booster, Romance, Workout, and Focus. In addition, Spotify's goal is also to allow its users to access Spotify from anywhere through the use of mediums like Davidson 2 computers, smart phones, tablets, home entertainment systems, cars, gaming consoles, and such. Being strikingly different from SoundCloud, the music selection of Spotify is of the already famous musicians of the industry. Therefore, Spotify helps broadcast and promote the 'already' well–known music artists. Secondly, SoundCloud's musical focus is the original–genuine songs of the up and ... • 3. Analysis of Popular Music Charts In order to determine whether a song is popular or not many people consult one of the various popular music charts. However, do these so called 'popular music charts' accurately depict what is considered to be popular? By thoroughly analyzing the methods of accessing the popularity of music, Billboard Magazine uses in their top 25 dance/electronic songs for November 30th – December 7th, 2013 this paper aims to discover whether or not popular music charts are the best implication of what is to be considered popular. The analysis will critically examine the contents of the chart in order to explain whether or not the methods Billboard used, accurately depict the popularity of these songs. Whilst exposing the possible effect of using such measures of popularity. As well, the analysis will discuss the idea of quality in relation to popularity and how the two ideas don't always mean the same thing. According to Hinds when determining popularity "one of two variables is used: how many were bought or viewed, or how many dollars were spent on sales or rentals." (pp. 373) Seeing as Billboard explains that the songs are ranked by a combination of "radio airplay audience impressions as measured by Nielsen BDS, sales data as compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, streaming activity data by online music sources tracked by Nielsen BDS and reports from a national sample of club DJs" (Billboard, 2013). • 4. Adorno's Critique Of Popular Music And Capitalism Analysis Throughout history, music has been seen as a medium in which different people all over the world can relate. Adorno criticizes, however, that songs that have the most "hits" on the top music charts or are most listened to, otherwise known as popular music, are being produced for and consumed by the masses as a commodity. He identifies popular music as being a part of a culture used for capitalism, and that we as listeners, are falling into a trap in which we believe songs have individuality and that we have the freedom to choose what we listen to. He argues that in reality these popular songs are all standardized and made to seem different through various elements that are added. In this paper, I will display how Adorno's critique of popular music being used for capitalism applies to the song,1–800–273–8255, by hip–hop and rap artist Logic, through its standardized elements in both its content and marketing; however, I will argue that although it contains these elements, the audience is actively listening and responding to the song as it brings awareness to mental health and suicide prevention that is changing and saving lives all around us. In the hit hip–hop song, 1–800–273–8255, performed by Logic and featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid, the audience is taken through the experience of someone who is contemplating suicide. The song begins within the point of view of a person calling the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL), 1–800–273–8255, which is sang by Logic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pop Culture And Instruction Of Music Education Pop–Culture and Instruction in Music Education In the age of the Internet and social media, current events and pop–culture phenomena's are literally at our fingertips and because of that the question arises, "Should we include references to pop–culture and current events in the classroom?" More specifically, "should these topics be included in the music classroom?" This has caused some debate between music educators many questioning if there is even a need to include current events in the classroom discussion. In this paper, the author will attempt to shed light on those two viewpoints, as well as discuss the benefits of both the inclusion and exclusion of pop–culture in the music classroom. In this paper the author will be using the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the main reasoning's given by educators and those in favor of the inclusion of pop–culture in the classroom are that the students are more likely to become engaged in the learning process as they are hearing current pieces of music or music they already know. They are also able to retain the information presented as they have something to connect it to outside of the classroom. Miguel Centellas of the University of Mississippi, writes in his article Pop Culture in the Classroom: American Idol, Karl Marx, and Alexis de Tocqueville about his personal use of discussing television shows in the classroom to aide in his teaching. I chose...American Idol because [it] works particularly well for two basic reasons; (1) students are more likely to be familiar with the show than with other (more niche) pop culture references, and (2) the specific format and scope of American Idol makes it particularly relevant for this particular exercise. (CITE) Though Cantellas' use of American Idol in the classroom was at the collegiate level, it does not negate the importance of its use in the public school classroom. The integration of pop–culture to hone in on a concept or to make a concept more tangible to the students can help greatly with the comprehension of the concept to the students. • 6. The Impact Of Music On American Society Throughout its history, music has permeated the significant events of American history. Its effect on American society and the way the American people cope with each event has only grown as popular music evolves and new genres reach more and more individuals. People can remember where they were and their exact surroundings to amazing detail when asked about life–changing events in history. Older generations will remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Their children will remember when Kennedy was assassinated and when man walked on the moon. Their grandchildren will remember much of the turmoil of the '70s and '80s and their great grandchildren grew up in the world impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. Even one's surroundings during the start or end of a relationship or personal events such as graduation, getting a driver's license, or getting married can all be paired with the music that was popular at the time. As someone who grew up in Europe and came to America with my family in 2004, my introduction to new American popular music was not as organic as it was to actual Americans. What I was exposed to came from movies and TV shows that made their way over and eventually what I was able to gather as the Internet became more widespread. My parents were introduced in the same way, mostly by TV and movies but the chronology was often confusing. There was no sense that the Beatles came after Elvis and what events these songs could be linked to. They simply existed as fun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We always have certain genres, one of the most popular being pop music. You're so used of everything you're heard. But have you ever wondered how much it has actually evolved? Which relates back to Scientific American, "linguistic analysis show that popular song lyrics have become more self–focused and antisocial (violence and profanity)" According to Glenn Mcdonald Traced "As time marches on, its beat has grown increasingly consistent doe to drum machines, click tracks and the like." Back when all drummers were humans, the tempo used to drift more, within songs. Today we have some songs where every note is exactly quantized and locked onto the tempo. There's research into how loud music has really struck a chord. Music has really grown louder over time, as part of the so called "loudness wars." Music is faster now too, We liked our music fastest during the "go–go" 80's. The music grew again in the mid–90's and now it's back to being just about as fast as ever." It gets people more hyped, everyone seems to be so energized in this generation. "Music has changed overtime mirrors the way technology changed." Quoran says. Creativity has been defined in several different ways by various media theorists. In 1997, Bentley explained creativity as 'The making of the new and rearranging of the old'. This is something that throughout the course of the project from the preliminary tasks to the main products I have been able to do. All magazines receive some degree of feedback from customers, whether this be filling out reviews and surveys on the content, writing in to try and win competitions or even complaining about the use of grammar and the English language, although this is something typically seen more frequently in newspaper broadsheets. The physical act of this communication though, leads us to a theory from Banaji, Burn & Buckingham in 2006. They say that technology allows us to be creative when we are not inherently so, and though I feel that as a species, humans are creative, I think that technology allows us to take this even further. Initially we drew the rough drafts for our magazine front covers and contents pages on paper as an indication of how we wanted them to look. Some of these drawings were creative and interesting; however, actually creating them on a computer, using photoshop, InDesign and photographs that we had taken ourselves, this allowed us to complete the products with a greater degree of professionalism and a more vibrant, interesting look. Also, with the advancement of technology in the 21st century, consumers can be more creative regarding how they communicate with the magazine – something which we had to be aware of when creating it. When dissecting music, we mainly tend to pay attention to its ethnicity, culture, whether or not its indigenous, traditional or tribal. World music is flavoured by native music culture. Often native music is considered sacred or used to dissolve egos and ignite their awareness of spiritual fire! Ever listen to a piece of music and think, "I've heard this before?" Western civilisation has forgotten about centuries–old reincarnations. Even in languages: The English seem to forget about its Germanic Constructs. We could consider World Music as a Pseudo–musical term in marketing... We complain about this matter because of its ability to relegate something for its exotic experience; cute, weird but safe, exotica is beautiful but irrelevant. The music industry is one of the most powerful and influential method that sends subliminal messages to influence people's poor decisions; Today's music has captured the attention of adolescents and the younger generation more than ever before by glamorizing all the negative aspects. Although, music can be soothing and relaxing, many teenagers are mostly impacted by the powerful lyrics that are sung by their idols. Clearly music represents, explains, or puts into words an idealized view of life, therefore, it brings energy and motivation to young adults to try and "fit in" and become "cool" or "accepted" like their idols. For example, Justin Beaver is a good example of how influential celebrities can be, it is incredible because if Justin Beaver cuts himself, his fans will cut themselves too or if Justin smokes weed of course his fans will follow as well. Moreover, the article "Media Representations of Drinking, Drug Use, and Smoking," states, "Marijuana was the drug that appeared most often in these songs, with other references to crack and powdered cocaine, heroin, and hallucinogens." For example, Three Six Mafia, a famous rap gang, promotes the use of marijuana by saying, "What's up Mary? Mary Jane since I have met ya girl you ruined my brain, you stole my heart, right from the start, so I broke you down, lil momma put you in the gar," in their popular song "Weed, Blow, Pills." Another significant portion are love songs that soldiers sing to remind them of their wife that they left at home with their children. • 13. Drugs And Drugs Drugs, alcohol, and violence: three major problems in our society. As you have most likely already heard on the news, these issues are not improving. Instead, they are running rampant in today's world. With constant acts of terrorism and alcohol commercials making drinking look attractive, music that promotes these serious matters are not helping the cause. Listeners are getting constantly battered with examples of how these three things are not as destructive to yourself as they truly are. An artist has the power to negatively influence his or her audience if the artist discusses drugs, alcohol, or violence in his or her content. An artist is able to glamorize drug use through his or her lyrics in a song. Artists affiliate drugs, such as marijuana, with "creativity, wealth and status" (Yang). As rappers and hip–hop artists promote drugs, such as marijuana, as a creative outlet, children and teens may also want to feel like they have power and creativity. They will start to try these drugs that the artists discussed in hopes of having the same experience. Many celebrities are artists who create music, and these people have others that look up to them. Rappers are popular role models, especially to younger audiences, because many young people listen to rap (Yang). People often look up to role models and admire them. Sometimes, people dress and talk like his or her role model or even do what they do. If someone sees a role model doing drugs, that person might do drugs as well to be just like their idol. Chart toppers in 2005 mentioned drugs within the top songs: "...found that Billboard's 279 most popular songs in 2005, a staggering 77% of the sixty–two rap songs portrayed substance abuse" (Yang). With songs on the Billboard top charts such as Drop It Like It's Hot by Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams or Hate It or Love It by The Game featuring 50 Cent, these songs, as well as others, talk about doing or selling drugs. These songs that adorn drugs could lead kids into consuming these drugs and thinking that it is all right to do these illegal drugs that were discussed in the song. Music has not only been known for "vocal or instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion" but also for a way that you can express your emotions, aim social problems or entertainment. Music has been evolving since it was first introduced to our world, and each era has had their own ups and downs with gender equalities, racism, political problems, and acceptance of the society. For example, 1960s was a decade marred by social unrest, civil rights injustice, and violence both home and abroad. These were some of the factors that lead to a cultural revolution. During these times, we could see how many artists aimed at these concerns through their lyrics, but the eighties had a big impact in our society. During this decade, The United States felt more liberalistic, and New ideologies were presented to our society, also Sex and drugs became the focus of many of the lyrics expressed by the artists. The eighties were a different decade. People in The United States felt free to achieve anything that they would wanted to. The 1980s reflected the beginning of a period of great income disparity and a focus on affluence was reflected in the music, but "when it came to music during the decade, nothing was understated, not the sound, not the fashion, not even the charity" The impact of music on society was greater ... Adorno argues that pop music tends to produce passive reactions, referring to an insect who has the jitters, who is passively by light ("On Popular Music" 45). But, in reality, audiences' reactions to pop songs are more active than he believes. For instance, Braca reviews the song by criticizing how social perception about girls is skewed to the one side ("The One Thing"). Mass media researcher, Cecilia von Feilitzen (Stockholm University, Sweden), cautions against distorting a complex problem. Feilitzen believes, "there has been too much focus on the causal relations between media exposure and violence in society, with a failure to differentiate among different kinds of influences" (McLellan). People are quick to blame television violence for behavioral activities that children demonstrate, without realizing that there are other important factors that also play a role in such behavior, for example, violence in the real world. The problem with society is that they think that by impeding children from watching certain things, it will be less likely for them to follow in the same footsteps. This idea was first thought of by Plato, another philosophy he had was of a cave. In this Cave Allegory, there are prisoners lined up against a wall so they can't move their head to look elsewhere. Those in society that simply do not know any better, such as children, are inclined to imitate what they see being done. Without censorship daily television shows are increasingly exhibiting more violence, foul language and sexuality to susceptible youth. Due to lack of censorship, explicit music lyrics and inappropriate images on music videos are being introduced to impressionable children. There is a lack of control on the internet leading to internet addiction and forces vulnerable adolescents to face cyber bullying. In a variety of mediums not enough censorship is used, which influences impressionable youth to think and behave negatively. The increasing amount of violence, foul language and sexuality available to children on TV is harmful to their development. What was once a time for children to watch TV with content suitable for their age is now directed for an older audience, Family Hour. Statistics show that this is the time most children are watching television with their family members. Despite knowing this, "Since 2000–2001, the amount of sexual content during the Family Hour has increased by 22.1%" (Parents Television Council 55). The fact that replicating a seventeen–years–old song can still become a hit in 2017, demonstrates that there is a pre–designed pattern for popular music in which changing a few characteristics to make a new songs sound "unique" can still result in success. For this reason, Adorno argues that the music industry produces music in an "industrial" way––popular music is centralized in its pattern and modifies some characteristics to seem "individualistic." Though Shape of You and No Scrubs contain different keys, tempo, and of course, lyrics, they both rely on a chord progression of i–ic– VI–VII in a common time (MusicNotes, 1 & FindSongTempo, 1). However, throughout time, music seems to have taken a bit of a detour as progress is concerned. Music gradually became more complex and advanced as the centuries progressed. On the other hand, recently, music seems to have deviated from its steady ascension toward the next, more advanced stage. Has there been a recession in the complexity and overall "magic" of music? Personally, I believe that there is a lot of truth to this concept of "relapse". Over the course of musical expression, inventions of different instruments and music theory concepts were created and used to benefit the science and progression of music through time. Throughout each period of music that we studied, the music changed based on the culture and the technology that was prevalent within its respective time period. Music found in the baroque period, for instance, is very complex and involves the use of several different musical voices. When we look at a lot of the mainstream music of modern day, it is very easy to realize that we have definitely taken a step backwards. Nowadays, the popular "musical artworks" that are being released lack complexity or any kind of variation at all. Modern pop music has really hit a stand still. Blurred Lines is a popular summer song that is constantly played on the radio. A song like "Blurred Lines" should not be played on public radio. A big problem with "Blurred Lines" is that it attempts to normalize disrespectful behavior towards women. The most popular music of children under the age of twenty–one is rap and heavy metal, which are the two leading participants in the foul language controversy (Volz 18). Knowing this, storeowners should heavily enforce the underage laws. However, One American boy noted the ease of buying profane music albums in spite of his age of fifteen years (Crowley). If storeowners continue to sell obscene heavy metal and rap music to under aged children, then the society will only worsen. I believe this foul music should be much further restricted from people that it could harm. The younger citizens of America are most influenced by today's music; therefore the restriction levels that have been placed upon it should be enforced. Obviously the laws are not yet strong enough to deny young people of the possession of profane music. Children still obtain ''stickered'' CD's, despite the child's age. Church brings a bit of a twist to country music, with really telling us how he feels. Talking about one of his songs in particular, "homeboy" about a lost young man needing to "come on home, boy." Eric Church is a good ole' country boy from Granite Falls, North Carolina. At thirteen is when Church started writing songs and playing guitar. His passion for music grew later in life and he moved to Nashville, where he was signed with Sony Tree Records. His last album Chief won Album of the Year from both the CMA and ACM in the last awards cycle, as it probably should have compared to its competition. Eric Church will never win the popularity contests like "Entertainer" or "Male Vocalist" categories because he has made more enemies than friends in the industry and beyond. But his music's unpredictability is the magic quotient that can't be denied, and continues to win him loyal fans. Church's song "Homeboy" takes the form of a pep talk by a satisfied rural farmer to a prodigal son wandering astray through urban culture. Church thinks that he'd be better off drinking a beer, baling hay, and hanging out with his high school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Feminism Of Hip Hop And Rap Music Introduction: Hip Hop or Rap music is often related to themes of misogyny and objectification towards women (Weitzer and Kubrin 2009 ; Gourdine and Lemmons 2011). Ruby M. Gourdine and Brianna P. Lemmons specifically state that misogynistic themes began to gain prominence in the genre during the late 1980s. I would suggest that the prevalence of objectification and misogyny in hip hop could pose a threat to a positive self image for females, exposed to this form of media. What is objectification? The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy defines objectification, as "the seeing and/or treating a person, usually a woman, as an object(Papadaki, 2015). Rae Langton asserts two key aspects to feminist objectification theory which I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Minaj and Azalea are highly influential figures as a result of their success, within pop culture, and therefore the contents of the media they produce should have an impact on those which consume their work. Selection and Justification for Medium Of Analysis: For my analysis I specifically chose to investigate the top three most popular music videos from both Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea. I determined there popularity based on the number of views the official videos had on their respective Youtube Vevo Channels. Popularity of the videos was an important factor as this content would seemingly have the most far reaching impact, as a result of the scale of viewers. Further, I avoided selecting videos based on their direct relevance to my research question as doing so could impact the validity of my findings negatively, as videos choosen based on relevance could be influenced by preconceptual biases. Overall, music videos were selected as the medium of analyzation as videos are a visual representation of the topics and themes of a given song. In addition, music videos can provide a broadened and enriched creative concept in tangent with the original purely sonic form of the media. Methodology and Research Question: The content was analyzed through the following process; first watching the videos and making note of the number of times a male was portrayed in a ... • 34. Parental Advisory Label Essay Recorded music has been around for hundreds of years, and music in general has been around for thousands of years, but yet we still do not have a good rating system for music. Music is not officially rated, but given a "Parental Advisory Label" if the artist or record label believes the music contains any "explicit" content. This label was created and adopted by the Recording Industry Association of America(RIAA) in 1985. Even though this label has been around since 1985, it is not a good system for rating music, and is potentially harming artists and the consumer. Parents could be misinformed about what their children are listening to, and artists could potentially lose money due to lost potential sales. Although the "Parental Advisory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A rating system should not be optional but a necessity. All in all, due to the change in style of music from when the "Parental Advisory Label" was created, music warnings should be more descriptive and a must on all music . This is possible by creating a new rating system to replace the "Parental Advisory Label". In addition to this, a new rating system is needed to help protect the consumer. As shown before music has changed, and this change affects the consumer. In rap and hip–hop music drug abuse is glorified and shown as a positive thing. Children, who do not know any better, hear this music and think it is okay to abuse drugs. But it is not okay, and this needs to be fixed. For example, researchers from the University of California, Berkeley found that there was sixfold increase in drug references in songs over the past two decades (Preidt 1). This proves how drug references has increased exponentially since the "Parental Advisory Label" was created. Additionally, the dean of students at the School of Public Health stated "Positive portrayals of drug use have increased over time, and drug references increased overall. This is an alarming trend, as rap artists are role models for the nation's youth, especially in urban areas. Many of these young people are already at risk and need to get positive messages from the media."(Herd 1). Altogether this proves that drug abuse is normalized and in some cases even ... • 35. The, Blurred Lines, By Robin Thicke On March 26, 2013, Robin Thicke released the single "Blurred Lines", a song that went on to be the longest running number one single of 2013 (Dredge 1). Thicke anticipated gaining fame from the song's catchy beat, but the song would also bring him infamy, as many thought the song promoted misogyny and rape culture. Thicke's hit single eventually reignited a debate over the role of sexism and misogyny in pop culture and music lyrics in particular. A brief analysis of contemporary popular music evidences that sexist and misogynistic themes are prominent within the lyrical content of many songs. Once one recognizes the almost undeniable sexism in a significant amount of popular music, it begs the question how to address this issue, if at all. Many feminists and harsh critics deride such sexist music and seek to ban and censor sexist songs. Others believe that chastising sexist artists can be useful, but banning such music is an inappropriate response. Others chose to ignore this issue, as they are ultimately indifferent to the prevalence of sexism in modern culture. In my opinion, many popular songs have disturbingly sexist implications and, while it is inappropriate to ban such songs, it is worth analyzing this issue and denouncing artists who are blatantly misogynistic. A brief analysis of the lyrical content of many popular songs substantiates the fact that sexism and misogyny are significant problems within music today. Social Media Critique As I'm lying down on the couch, sipping coffee and watching television, my sister enters the living room interrupting," turn off the lame T.V. and check your Facebook account". With a grand smile on her face, she asked me to check the latest photos updated by my brother; they were beautiful photos and videos of my niece and nephew growing up in USA. I looked at my sister, turned off the television and said," well, I can't see those sweethearts on T.V." Social media nowadays is receiving a lot of attention, some think it's a way of freedom of speech, others assume it's negative and time wasting. The issue of social media is controversial. It's being overused at certain times that it's becoming shameful, violent, and it's creating chaos and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social media is a great way to do so; salesmen or companies just have to post their product and information on their page, and all you need to do is check out a review or a video link and judge the product (Duda, 2011). Also, social media is a chance for companies to show people that their more than just a logo, it makes people feel that they're chatting with another person, not dealing with a faceless company. "Believe it or not people tend to trust their friends more than their companies. But there's nothing that says your brand can't be their friend too" (Duda, 2011). This shows that not only can u accept people as friends on social networks, you can also add and accept companies and get to know them and their products, and trust them as if they were your friends. People usually tend to trust recommendations from other people they know, and that's what social networks like Facebook provide. Social media is taking over, and it will continue to do so in the coming decades, because by far it's the easiest, most efficient mean of communication on a very wide range. • 37. Dance Research Phrase 1.1 The Research Phrase The phrase that was taught to the dancers was created with the intention of being neutral; lacking specific tempo, dynamic and emotive or narrative qualities, to avoid influencing the dancers in terms of suggesting specific performative attributes. This desired absence of qualities was in attempt to provide the research with a control method, to aid the validity of the comparison results. The dancers revealed in Part 1 of the questionnaire that the phrase possessed a tempo, as all three responded yes for indication of time. Dance itself occurs in time and space with all aspects of movement giving some indication of timing and tempo when compared to stillness. The dancer's articulation of the reaching and stretching also reflects the observed openness of the phrase, reinforcing the idea that emotion is closely linked to the architecture of movement, as explored by Rudolf Laban (Laban, ... • 38. Western Music: The American Identity Formation and propagation of the "western" genre by pioneers allowed new immigrants to find a cohesive "American" identity within an expansive, disorganized, and often hostile country. However, this "American" identity is not readily defined, and to this day, historians, political scientists, social scientists and the like struggle to label what exactly is the "American" identity. Is it something born out of a shared cultural experience? Is it something received at birth? For new immigrants, often white Europeans, the west acted as a musical crossroads, a testing ground, for racial and ethnic mixing in the western lands so far from the "civilized" Eastern towns and cities. Music was community–oriented; lyrics reflected internal feelings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Music played an important role in the daily life of pioneers; as the journey was physically rigorous, emotionally draining as well as boring, music helped emigrants cope with these experiences by providing a distraction that was community–oriented with words that reflected internal feelings and familiar melodies of home. For women, singing helped express the despondency they felt about arrival in the west; singing around a campfire, when possible, was a social way to end a long day of travel and helped offset melancholy (Schlissel, 179). In 1849, a young woman named Catherine Haun and her husband decided to head out west; her account of the journey west describes the importance of music as a way to keep spirits up and stave off depression: "The familiar tunes that he played upon his harmonica seemed to soften the groaning and creaking of the wagons and to shorten the long miles of the mountain road (Schlissel, 179)." Later on, this image of singing around a campfire would become deeply embedded in American pop culture. However, popular songs of the 1850s also depicted the victorian ideal of a "good death" as something that occurred in the home or with the family––a victorian ideal of a respectable, Christian death surrounded by friends and family in the home (Schlissel, 131). Pioneer family and friends gathered beside the deathbed in order to comfort the dying, and popular music reflected the desire for this in a life where death from disease or other threats was constant (Schlissel, ... Almost all of the bodily features that are described in the novels, are also shown in the movies; just with slight variations. There are a few subtle differences in Harry's appearances that can be found in the movies. Harry Potter is well known in the novel for having, "his mother's green eyes".(J.K. Rowling Quotes) However, in the movie Daniel Radcliff's(Harry Potter) eyes are blue. This may seem insignificant, but since it is accentuated in the novel, it is hard to ignore. Another, more noticable difference is Harry's scar. It is illustrated in the The Philosopher's Stone as being located in the center of Harry's forehead. Although, in all of the movies, it is located directly above his right eye. One of Harry Potter's qualities that cannot be shown, but is still pivotal to the plot is his personality. Many of the similarities between the novels and the movies can be found by interpreting Harry's personality. Life experiences are the main ingredient in the makings of his personality.
