2.
Font – The fonts consist of sans serif which is conventional because it
connotes that it is informal and masculine. The font isn’t always the
same one, the actual font varies to make it less boring which is
conventional because indie is usually quite exciting.
Colour – In my magazine I am keeping to a house style. I am
consistently using red, black and white which is conventional
because they are the colours that represent the indie genre and it is
conventional to keep the house style so it makes the magazine look
better.
Image – My magazine consists of having images of bands and
artists which are conventional because NME uses images with
instruments and artists in to create the masculine and musical
theme. Also on my front cover I have a picture of someone holding
a guitar.
Layout – My front cover uses route of the eye, like NME does. I also
have the masthead in the top left which is the primary optical area
then the barcode in the bottom right which is the terminal area so
the audience looks at the masthead first then the rest of the page
and then the price at the bottom. Also I have cover lines on the left
third so that is what people look at more and read.
3. Font: The font on my contents page is sans serif. This is similar to NME
because they use sans serif on their contents page, however
occasionally their heading is in serif. Sans serif is conventional because
it is masculine and colloquial. My fonts are quite bold which is
attractive and draws the audience to the page.
Colour: The colours on my contents page are conventional, I have
used red, black and white which are colours that NME usually use. It is
conventional because they signify informality and the masculinity of
the magazine. Also the contrasting colours that I have used stand out
and attract the audience to the page like the font does.
Layout: In my contents page I have the list of contents on the right
side of the page like NME have done which is conventional because it
shows what will be in the magazine which is obviously is what is
expected on a contents page. Also I have my heading in the top left
corner which is conventional because it is the primary optical area.
Also I have cover lines about bands/artists including pictures on the left
side of the page which tells the audience about the magazine.
4. Font: The sans serif font is conventional for indie because the
audience is usually young adults/teenagers so they suit
the font because it is informal. The informal font appeals
to the audience because their psychographics match
that style of font. NME uses sans serif in their magazines so
my magazine seems similar to NME with the font and
colours.
Layout: The layout of my double page spread is
conventional because I have the article on the right side
page with a pull quote in the centre. Also on the left
page I have my main image with a pull quote on it. This is
a conventional layout because the picture is the first
thing they see and the image is about the article. Also
having pull quotes that separate the text, it shows how
informal it is and isn’t properly structured.
