 Thriller
 Crime
 Horror
 Comedy
 Romance
 Sci fi
 There is also genre hybrids; such as ‘The
terminator 2’

3. Genre boundaries can be flexible, it is a system of
signs, symbols and themes by which a particular genre
can be recognised e.g; the western- cowboys, guns,
horses, mountains or desert, indians, ‘Taming the
West’.
It is a context between the audience and filmmakers.
Audiences build up ‘generic memory’ and can
anticipate things happening so the director can play on
this.

4.  A horror film is made a horror by one scary
plot. There is a story and usually one or more
scary characters (zombies, murderer, stalker,
