6. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface
Use the fast and simple
parametric Equipment modelling
capabilities + the library to build
3D model
Export to automatically build
the PV Elite analysis file
Uses the native PV Elite file
format *.pvdb
7. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface
Change as required by
Analysis for code
compliance
Import native PVDB file
back into CADWorx to
redefine Equipment
model
9. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Be Aware!
CADWorx Equipment was completely rewritten for
release 2020 to add much more capability around the
library and property managers, more component types,
custom shapes and much more
Because of this the data structure behind CADWorx
Equipment was significantly expanded
10. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Be Aware!
This means the PV Elite export was also completely
rewritten
Certain things don’t work 100% at the moment
(Although these are generally things that were not
even possible in previous versions of CADWorx
Equipment)
11. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Code and Units
Changing however is only a simple drop-down list in PV Elite
Similarly, PV Elite always works in US (Imperial) Units internally.
However, units files can be used to allow input and output in users
selected units
There is no place in CADWorx to specify the Pressure Vessel code,
therefore in PV Elite the code always defaults to ASME VIII Div. 1
A PV Elite file exported from CADWorx will default to the out of the box
“ENGLISH” units file
Again, this is a simple selection from a drop-down list to change
12. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Materials
New CADWorx Equipment has a
comprehensive material database
This can be assigned to an item of
equipment or to an individual part
Here the bottom head component
inherits the material from the
parent equipment definition
13. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Materials
Presently, the material properties do not
transfer correctly into PV Elite
Here the allowable stress values are 0.1 Mpa
Except Hydrotest which is 0.2 Mpa and yield is
only 0.3 MPa
This leads to strange required thickness
values – 1546mm Tr
The vessel is only 1800mm ID
14. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Materials
The easiest thing to do is to reselect the material in PV Elite and obtain the correct
properties
And then share that material as appropriate
across the vessel
15. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Materials
This also applies for e.g. Skirts, legs and other
components
16. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Corrosion Allowance
There is presently no Corrosion
Allowance field in CADWorx
Equipment
As such in PV Elite
the Corrosion
Allowance is 0
Except for nozzles where it is
0.125 regardless of units
0.125 is likely a typical
corrosion allowance in inches
(0.125” = 3.2mm)
17. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Nozzle Welds
Nozzle weld data is another area
which does not get populated by
default in PV Elite
The welds themselves…
…and also the seam efficiency on
both nozzle and shell
18. CADWorx Equipment / PV Elite Interface - Analysis
Of course if you forget any of these
the analysis will show the issues
19. Summary
Pick the Vessel Code and set units if appropriate
Reselect and share all materials for all components
Check and set Weld Seam efficiencies
20. Summary
Make any modifications to satisfy code requirements
Share the model back to designer
Check and set Corrosion allowances
23. BricsCAD Mechanical
BricsCAD Mechanical can be used
to enhance the standard CADWorx
model
The direct modelling techniques in
BricsCAD Mechanical can be used
to add more detail
25. BricsCAD Mechanical - Fabrication Drawings
Including generation of Fabrication
Drawings using the BricsCAD
Mechanical functions
26. BricsCAD Mechanical - Fabrication Drawings
Projection Views
Section Views Detail Views
All views can be created automatically and
auto updated if the model changes
27. BricsCAD Mechanical - Fabrication Drawings
Material List created – combination
of the CADWorx Equipment
material list table + BricsCAD
Mechanical Table
Nozzle Schedule auto generated
by CADWorx Equipment
28. Summary
Add the internal component with ease
Create detail fabrication drawing in the same space
Any change in the design will be automatically update in the all the place
31. PV Elite Plug-Ins
Plug ins for Autodesk Inventor and
SOLIDWORKS
Adds new functions inside
Inventor/SOLIDWORKS to allow opening of a
PV Elite file
Open a native PV Elite *.pvdb file
directly in Inventor/SOLIDWORKS
environment
Available at no cost to all PV Elite users on maintenance
Can be downloaded from Smart Community
32. Load a PV Elite File
Each PV Elite element and detail is
remodelled as a native component
33. Load a PV Elite File
Because everything is native item each
part can be opened individually
Everything behaves as if it was built by
the user manually
34. Load a PV Elite File
Overall global data is available for the
assembly, some of which is read from the
output
35. Load a PV Elite File
Also each component has component
specific properties data available
Access by right-clicking any item
36. Drawing Generation
All these properties are available when
generating drawings in Inventor
Including data such as Nozzle Schedule
can be generated using Parts List
functions in Inventor
All data read from PV Elite properties
imported
37. Summary
The .pvdb can be opened without any data loss in native CAD platform
All the custom property is stored in the file.
The design data & other information can be used in the fabrication
38. Plug in - SEG CAD
• SEG is a 3D Digital prototyping and workshop drawing software for
Static equipment.
• SEG aids designers and manufacturers in generating a digital
prototype to test static equipment (Pressure vessels, towers, Heat
Exchanger, storage tanks with fixed roof, Ducts, slug catchers, etc.)
prior to the manufacturing process and the creation of all fabrication
and detailed drawings.
• SEG software uses Autodesk Inventor as a platform.
