This document provides a procedure for testing and rolling out Autodesk product updates and hotfixes. It outlines downloading and installing updates, assigning testers to specific applications, testing to ensure issues are resolved, validating test results, and submitting a request to roll out the update more broadly. Testing helps reduce risks from not implementing updates while ensuring updates do not cause new issues when moved to production systems.

1. Introduction
Service packs and hotfixes are updates to Autodesk products to resolve a known issue or
workaround.
This document will guide you in the proper implementation of Autodesk product updates
and hotfixes through a testing process. This will be the basis for the actual roll out of
product updates.
Individual hotfixes and security patches on the other hand should be adopted on a case‐by‐
case, "as‐needed" basis. The majority of security updates released are for client side
issues except for Vault Server updates. Evaluate the update, if it's needed, then apply it. If
not, assess the risk of applying or not.
The basic rules are:
"The risk of implementing the service pack, hotfix or updates should ALWAYS be
LESS than the risk of not implementing it."
And, "You should never be worse off by implementing a service pack, hotfix or
updates. If you are unsure, then take steps to ensure that there is no doubt when
moving them to production systems."
The scope of this task is from the release of Autodesk Service pack or hotfix through an
alert from the Autodesk Application Manager until the submission of service request to
system administrator.
2. Procedure
This section explains the procedure in implementing the Autodesk Product Updates and
Hotfixes.
The Autodesk applications that need to be tested with updates/hotfixes are as follow;
1. AutoCAD
2. AutoCAD Mechanical
3. AutoCAD Electrical
4. AutoCAD Plant3D
5. AutoCAD P&ID
6. Inventor Professional
7. Navisworks Manage
8. Navisworks Freedom
9. Vault Basic Server
10. Vault Basic Client
11. Vault Professional Server
12. Vault Professional Client

2.1. Download and Installation
1. Check for any update using Autodesk Application Manager as an alert tool. JEC to inform
responsible testers (see Table 2.2)

2. Download the Autodesk update or hotfix at Knowledge Network
3. Place installation update files at sv42141soe1781 DAWN Test directory

4. Before installation, always read the README file. This is very important.
5. Install the update or hotfix by following the Installation Instructions from README file.
6. Check the About Autodesk from the application. Take note of the build number and log in
the information at Table 3.1

2.2. Testing
The assigned testers to different applications are as follows;

The assigned tester will test according to the most relevant issue(s) from the description of
the issues addressed.
An example for Autodesk® AutoCAD® 2016 Hotfix 2 Readme
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Issues Resolved by This Update
The following issues are addressed by this Hotfix:
o Miscellaneous crash issues in DWG files containing attached images;
o Miscellaneous issues with DGN Export functionality.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Perform a test for AutoCAD hotfix against crash with attached images and DGN Export.
Record your tests by filling up the Update Test Form. There will be a time when an update
may not be needed nevertheless it is necessary to fill up the Update Test Form to state the
reason(s).
2.2.1 Test Results
If test done is consistent with the issue(s) from the readme file then the tester will assign 2
testers (outside of DAWN) by filling up a Service Request Form. The service request form will
contain the test workflow done by the tester. This will serve as a guide for the assigned testers.
In case the test did not fulfill the resolved issues, there will be a discussion among DAWN to
validate the issue at hand. If the issue cannot be resolved, then it will be escalated to Autodesk
Support. LAR or JEJ will coordinate with Autodesk Support.

2.3. Roll Out
Once the results have been validated with no issues, the tester will submit a Service Request
Form to Accenture for the roll out of Autodesk Update(s). The target roll out date should be agreed
upon between parties.
