This document summarizes the benefits of intelligent P&IDs and 3D modeling compared to conventional CAD drafting. Intelligent P&IDs capture and organize project data in a single database, allowing for single data entry and association of engineering documents. 3D modeling enables visualization, interference detection, stress analysis and eliminates costly physical models. Both methods generate standard AutoCAD and MicroStation files and provide benefits over conventional drafting throughout the design, construction, and coordination process.
7. View of Data From Database Software Project Databases can be many different formats; FoxPro, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL or Oracle. This Project was run using Microsoft Access.

12. Start of the Design Using conventional 2D files for backgrounds for the model.
14. Equipment in the Model Once 3D Objects are created they are placed and positioned in the model.
15. Adding Structures and Platforms After generally arranging all the equipment, Structures, Platforms and Stairs are added to finalize the arrangement.
16. Adding Piping and Components Piping is selected from specifications and are drawn as 3D Objects. They are connected to Equipment Nozzles.
