Ukraine Culture Vs American Culture
Human beings are a social species that relies heavily on human interaction throughout their daily
lives. There are roughly six billion people on this earth, and those human beings inhabit one hundred
and ninety six countries. The varying countries have developed their own customs, languages,
values, music, and style that give them their own identity, or "culture." According to the Oxford
dictionary, culture is defined as "the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or
society [1]." An understanding of the meaning of culture and its characteristics provides the
foundation to better comprehend specific cultures. By exploring a country's cultural identity, one can
gain a better understanding of a country's values and viewpoints within a global context. Through an
exploration of culture and its characteristics as well as the specific culture of Ukraine, it can be
argued that the current conflict in Ukraine could potentially become an area of conflict for the
United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Culture has existed since ...

Within any cultural group, a set of behaviors and courtesies becomes the norm and is passed to the
next generation. As time passes and the world progresses, cultures adapt and evolve. This is how
some groups of humans have been able to go from hunter gatherers to living in modern, high–tech
cities. As the human population expanded and began to inhabit areas all over the world, each group
developed their own set of languages and cultural norms. As beautiful as it is to see countries have
their own identity being defined by their culture, this can also lead to rivaling nations having
conflict with others' ideals or beliefs. Many of the wars in human history have been fought due to
such conflicts and that is why it is imperative that people develop cultural awareness to avoid such

Russia's Influence on Ukraine Human Rights
By Samantha Semsel
October 30, 2017
Throughout the Ukraine, thousands of civilians are living in fear from the dangers that lurk inside
their country. Ever since the Ukraine and Russia entered into a tension building war that had
everyone on edge in 2014, the Ukrainian citizens have been stripped of many human rights. As of
2015, there have been allegedly more than 10,000 people killed, 20,000 people wounded, and 1.4
internally displaced. Ukraine's insecure borders, have been altered multiple times by the Russian
government. There have been multiple reports of torture throughout the country, for the people are

People that were claiming to be the SBU to be the Police abducted her and tortured her for many
hours till others found her. The civilians of the Ukraine are in constant fear and are not safe while
there is no one protecting them. Throughout eastern Ukraine, there have been multiple attacks and
Human Rights violations against the citizens of the Ukraine. With these major threats against the
people of the Ukraine, the russians have been compromising the borders. In 1994, Ukraine gave up
their nuclear weapons in exchange for guaranteed security from threats and or uses against territorial
integrity and political independence by signing the Memorandum. Russia's illegal actions towards
Crimea has increased major and aggressive military posture all around the world has diminished the
rights to a secure border to the Ukraine, even though the treaty still stands with the Ukraine. With
the unsecure borders, Russia invaded the Ukraine in 2014, and since then ten thousand people have
been killed and 1.4 million internally displaced. People have been killed, tortured, and arrested
because they posses something remotely Ukrainian, as in symbols and many other ways of
expressing. The people of the Ukraine have been constantly terrorized since then and the numbers
are building up. Human rights for the citizens, especially the people who live near the conflict line,
are still have major problems, yet the focus of many have shifted. The Syrian crisis

International Reactions to the Ukraine-Russia Crisis
There has been a range of international reactions to the crisis. The U.N. General Assembly passed a
non–binding resolution 100 in favor, 11 against and 58 abstentions in the 193–nation assembly that
declared invalid Crimea's Moscow–backed referendum.
The United States followed suit by imposing sanctions against persons they deem to have violated
or assisted in the violation of Ukraine's sovereignty, which were mostly close aides of Putin. "We
want the Ukrainian people to determine their own destiny and to have good relations with the United
States, Russia, Europe, with anyone they choose" said Obama. The US Department of Treasury
introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and organizations, including four banks
including SMP Bank and InvestCapitalBank, controlled by the Rotenberg brothers. 17 Russian
companies were also sanctioned against.
The European Union suspended talks with Russia on economic and visa related matters; on March
12, the European Parliament rejected the referendum on independence in Crimea, which they saw as
manipulated and contrary to international and Ukrainian law. It moved for sanctions against a total
of 48 people which included General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian general staff and first
deputy defence minister, and Lieutenant General Igor Sergun, identified as the head of GRU, the
Russian military intelligence agency.

Deutsche Brauerei As A Brewing Company Essay
Deutsche Brauerei is a brewing company that produces two different kinds of beer, dark and light.
The brewery is located in a small village just outside of Munich, Germany. Their brewing
techniques have consistently won several quality awards over the years. Deutsche was founded in
1737 by Gustav Schweitzer, whose picture is printed on the label of each bottle of beer that
Deutsche sells. The company has been in the family for 12 generations and currently is collectively
owned by 16 aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Schweitzer family. The brewery is capable of
producing 1.2 million hectoliters of beer due to the purchase of new equipment in 1994. The new
equipment allowed for a lot of production capacity to go unused. This helped lead to the expansion
into Ukraine in 1998. The Schweitzer family decided to enter the Ukrainian market through a
network of independent distributors. Lukas Schweitzer, the general manager of the company,
decided to hire Oleg Pinchuk to aggressively market the beer in Ukraine. Lukas has asked for a
recommendation on three important decisions that the board of directors must make. The first is the
acceptance of the forecasted 2001 and 2002 budget. This is an important decision to be made
because if the company is going to keep expanding at an astounding rate, the company will need to
know how they are going to finance the expansion. This could include issuing more debt and
increasing their interest expenses. The second topic to discuss is the

Community Intervention : Ukrainian Village
Community Intervention: Ukrainian Village
The Ukrainian community in the Chicagoland area is "scattered" but its core neighborhood is
located within Chicago's "Ukrainian Village." Ukrainian Village in Chicago has been the focus of
the lives of the Ukrainian people for a vast majority of the 20th and 21st century. This central area
continues with: "three major Ukrainian churches, two Ukrainian banks, a Ukrainian grammar
school, the Ukrainian National Museum, a Ukrainian Cultural Center, two Ukrainian youth
organizations, and many Ukrainian restaurants, stores and businesses." (Ukrainian National
Museum, 2015).
Ukrainian Village is located on both the Northern and Southern borders of Chicago, IL; otherwise
known as "Division". Its Eastern and Western boarders lie within Damen and "Western" (Bailey,
2007), Ukrainian Village; rich and abundant to the heritage of Ukraine is the home for four waves of
Ukrainian immigrants. Though outside of their homeland, Ukrainian immigrants have kept a
culturally authentic history outside of Ukraine itself where Ukrainian art, culture and heritage
remain alive.
Ukraine is known to be one of the smallest Eastern European countries. Though small in size,
respectively, the country can make up for in nationalism, and pride. The country is known to be the
"bread–basket" (Ukrainian National Museum, 2015) of Europe. Ukrainians built a prosperous

International Relations with Russia's Invasion

Russia invaded the territory of Ukraine in 2014. After the fall of the President of Ukraine as well as
the protests of Euromaidan, Russia decided to take control of infrastructure and strategic areas
within Ukraine. Russia joined Crimea after a disproved vote which resulted in Crimeans voting to
join the Federation of Russia following official results. Therefore, pro–Russian groups organized
demonstrations in the region of Donbass in Ukraine which intensified into armed conflict between
the government of the Ukraine and the forces that were backing Russia which were Lugansk and
Donetsk. The forces had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Religious groups are also relevant non–state actors in the war (Larrabee, 2014). The leader of the
Russian Orthodox Church supplied spiritual support to president Putin's ideology of the Russian
World. Religious tensions have led to confusion among people as radical, and competing views
develop an environment of instability and distrust.
International organizations that have responded to the invasion are the United Nations, NATO and
International Monetary Fund (IMF). The United Nations has held meetings to discuss the situation
in Ukraine. The secretary general of the UN, Ban Ki–Moon who is also against the Russian
incursion. NATO has asked Russia to respect the sovereignty of Ukraine, and it has condemned
Russia for sending its military troops to Crimea. The IMF has offered financial assistance to
Ukraine, and it is planning to send an assessment team to Ukraine. The Donbas non–governmental
organizations have come up with strategies to solve the catastrophe in the eastern part of Ukraine.
The key individuals involved in the conflict are Alexander Zakharchenko who is the leader of the
rebel group Donetsk (Mankoff, 2014). He admitted that many Russian soldiers were helping him.
Other individuals are Strelkov who is the commander of the rebels and Vladimir Antyufeyev who is
the politician of the Donetsk.

Changing the Genre of a Blog Article
There is a belief that the way information is presented can affect the way it is going to be understood
by the person. In this assignment, our task was to find a published piece of work and change its
genre drastically. Then we had to analyze which genre is the best for presenting the information that
we have. The topic that my partner and I chose was about the Ukrainian crisis. The primary genre is
a blog post from The Washington Post and the secondary genre is a poem. It is not easy to say which
genre works the best in this situation; however the primary genre is more effective because it is well
organized, presents facts, and includes details.
The primary genre is the blog article from the online newspaper. The author of this article argues
that there are many reasons why the crisis in Ukraine happened and that there are many sides to the
story. However, he highlights two major views. One view is that Ukrainians got tired of the
authoritative pro–Russian corrupt president and decided to fight for their freedom and democracy by
supporting the idea of entering the European Union. The other view is that the whole problem in
Ukraine is not the president himself, it is his origin. The president is from the East of Ukraine,
which is a Russian speaking part of the country that does not want to be part of the European Union
and is happy to be part of the pro–Russian trade union. However, many western bloggers and media
present only one side of the story, ignoring a big population

The Soviet Regime And Cultural Organizations
Once the revolution ended and matters of politics and international disputes had calmed, educational
and cultural organizations began to reemerge with the hopes of reinforcing Ukrainian values and
culture. Cultural organizations sought to clearly establish that Ukrainians did not want to be part of
the Soviet regime and that the two ethnicities had little in common. One of these groups was
"Prosvita" or "Enlightenment" (Senyura 2012 pp.37–38). It consisted of many high–ranking
intellectuals who aspired to further their culture and make theater accessible even to the Rusyns who
lived in "dark villages" (Senyura 2012 pp.36). Recent History – 19th Century and 20th Century

The late 19th and 20th centuries experienced the largest and most significant part of theater history
in Ukraine. During this time period, the National Theater opened in Kyiv, giving the recent strides in
this discipline the proper recognition it deserved. Playwrights such as Les Kurbas (1887–1937) ,
Mikola Kulish (1892–1937) , and Lesya Ukrainka (1871–1913) , all contributed to new plays such
as In The Thicket, but also created their own interpretations of very famous plays like Oedipus Rex
(Ukraine pg.1,2). This was the same time period in which major critics finally recognized Ukrainian
theater. Les Kurbas took one of his production designs to the World Fair in Paris in 1925 and
received praise from very distinguished critics, including a Soviet, Osip Mandelstam, who heaped
Kurbas' work with praise despite being very famous for his harsh criticisms (Ukraine pg. 1,2). Many
young thinkers and artists also perished as a result of the Soviet regime. Les Kurbas and Mykola
Kulish were executed, along with many others, in the "Executed Renaissance". Many literary
geniuses from Ukraine were censored and killed as part of Stalin's programs, which began in 1920,
repressing Ukrainian creativity and development in other spheres of literature, not just theater
(Executed Renaissance 2011, Studio 1+1). Famous Ukrainian Playwrights And Their

Tatar Argument Against Russia's Annexation Of Crimea
Hundreds of Crimean Tatars launched a blockade of roads from Ukraine to the Crimean peninsula to
protest Russia's annexation of the Crimean peninsula. With help of the members of the Ukrainian
ultra–nationalist Pravy Sektor group, the protesters used concrete blocks to partially seal off the
three roads linking mainland Ukraine to Crimea in order to halt the delivery of goods. Tatar leaders
said they were aiming to block supplies to protest the "numerous violations of their rights by
Russian authorities"."Our goal is to end the occupation of Crimea and to restore the territorial
integrity of Ukraine," Refat Chubarov, one of the expelled leaders of the Crimean Tatar community,
told journalists. Dozens of trucks were backed up at the crossing ... Show more content on

The Tatar community of Crimea were exiled under orders of Stalin to Central Asia during World
War II, with almost half perishing in harsh conditions. They were only allowed to return to Crimea
at the end of Soviet rule. The demonstrators said they hope their actions would help pressure on the
members of the community, secure the release of detained Tatar activists and see restrictions on
Tatar media lifted. Between 10,000 and 15,000 members of the Tatar community (which has its own
distinct language and culture) are thought to have fled Crimea ever since the Russian flag was raised
on the peninsula.

Dancing In Odessa Analysis
To understand Dancing in Odessa, one must understand pain, loss, and love, often at the same time.
Kaminsky embodies a variety of emotions throughout his book that has sent me through the five
stages of grief as well as an outpour of love and happiness. To understand Kaminsky, one must
understand the history and struggle of the Ukrainian population as a whole, and only then will the
reader achieve understanding of his poetry collection Dancing in Odessa, which pulls from
Kaminsky's own personal experiences as well as those around him.
Ilya Kaminsky was born 1977 in Odessa, Ukraine of the former Soviet Union in a time of political
unrest (Poetry Foundation). Ukraine has had a history of political unrest under the Soviet Union, and
with Kaminsky being of Jewish descent, he would have been under immense fear. Ukraine's Jewish
population lost most of its 1.5 million population to Nazi Germany in World War II. While the
effects of the war lessened tremendously after the war, the history must haunt the community. In the
late 1900s, Ukraine sought independence from the Soviet Union, which was achieved in 1991 along
with the fall of the Soviet Union. However, independence did not come without a cost to the
Ukrainians. In 1972, only five years before Kaminsky was born, a repression effort of refuseniks
was launched by the Soviet Union ("Ukraine Profile – Timeline").

Satire and Critique in Dead Soul by Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol
A Satire for the Ages Satirical fiction, although unique and one of a kind in its nature, has continued
to be an enthralling and captivating subject out of the plethora of themes that exist throughout
literature history and thrive to this day. While the many forms of humor that appear throughout a
novel, from comical, ironic characters to witty, exaggerated plots, are often considered tame and
childish themes, authors, skillful and clever alike, are able to utilize such forms of humor and
transform them into a means of stirring emotion within their audiences, in order to deliver logical,
yet powerful messages. For centuries, authors have used satires as devices to not only ridicule, but
to expose and criticize people's stupidity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But as Tchitchikov visits individual after individual, the honest picture of the "hero" is slowly
unveiled–thus the very first message Gogol delivers is not to judge any noble by mere appearance.
Although Tchitchikov does indeed possess many great social qualities, he uses them only to his
advantage. Tchitchikov sweet talks every noble he encounters and, whether it be by overpowering
them with intellect or by playing them with words, forces them to give him the dead "souls" that he
desires. In addition, Tchitchikov, throughout the account, continues to resort to immoral decisions.
While he had gained many friends of high status in the town of N, he finds himself abusing their
kindness and hospitality to try and get rich, which ultimately ruins him soon after. A second time,
while having the opportunity to settle down and earn money honestly, he finds himself getting
caught up in a scandal. Gogol very comically criticizes how, unless deciding to change, Russian
nobles, in their pride and greed, will continue to make the same mistakes, time and time again.
Another means by which Gogol is able to present a satire of Russian life is the portrayal of women
throughout the novel. The first woman Tchitchikov encounters is Madame Korobotcha. It can be
seen that he converses with her with less decorum and

In early 2014, Russia made the decision to conduct an illegal military intervention into Ukraine. It
all began when there was a dispute over whether Ukraine should accept financial help from Russia
or Europe, which then ascended into the ousting of the Ukrainian president and then invasion of
Ukraine. More specifically, Russia began to taking over the Ukraine territory of the Crimean
Peninsula through illegal use of force (Global Security, 2016). During that time, the Russian
government voted to place Crimean's into the Russian Federation, which had been rapidly accepted

The United Nations "could deploy observers into Crimea and other parts of Ukraine to report on the
situation...the UN isn't completely sidelined yet" (Brown, 2014). For NATO, this is the exact type of

be integrated into the defense pact, making a military response from NATO unlikely.
In the Ukrainian crisis with Russia, there have been many non–state actors involved since the
beginning of the invasion of Crimea. "From the Russian diaspora, non–governmental organizations,
paramilitary groups and volunteer militias, there are a diverse range of non–state actors involved in
the crisis" (German and Karagiannis, 2016). There has been a large impact in regards to religious
groups with the Ukrainian conflict, such as the Russian Orthodox Church being able to rationalize
why there was a need to invade Crimea. In Ukraine, a subset church of the Russian Orthodox
Church broke off from the Russian Church to play a proactive role in assisting the pro–Ukrainian

country of Ukraine as the country lacks the ability to stabilize its regions against the crisis from the

Modern philosophy considers realism as a fully broad term which consists of several movements all
showing a unity when it comes to Political realism. On top of the realism founding thinkers overlies
the famous names of Thucydides, Hobbes and Machiavelli. Those famous realism thinkers believe
that the international world is an anarchic system which guides international relations. This one

Purpose Statement
The purpose of this research paper is to discover why Taras Shevchenko uses of women in his
poetry. Along with the poem "Kateryna", women are used quite heavily by the author. The women in
his poetry appear to symbolize the czarist imposition of serfdom in the Ukraine. The irony was
written when his own freedom was purchased by a friend. Women are usually seen as becoming
impregnated by Moscals and then abandon by their impregnators. Shevchenko desire is to reveal
how the czars imprison the Ukrainian people just as women are put into a prison by the seduction of
the soldiers from Moscow.

(Early Ukrainian Identity)
Next, tracing the central literary themes within his works does even more to help define the
development of Ukrainian national identity to the present–day. Two interlocking central themes
permeate his works and therefore early conceptions of Ukrainian identity: alienation (in Ukrainian,
отчуждення) and dependency (залежність), which combine to disclose a new sense of Ukrainian
national spirit (народність): modern Ukraine resents abuses by, yet recognizes its historical
dependency on, outsiders. Depending heavily upon these central themes in Shevchenko, an
otherwise callow Ukrainian nation is able to identify itself with distinct and defiant historic claims
to territory, memories, and myths that distinguish and thereby legitimatize Ukraine as an
independent nation. (Early Ukrainian Identity)
Traditionally, in Ukraine women were not only mothers, sisters, or wives, they also symbolized the
Protecting goddess (Ukrainian Berehynya). This figure was holy for every Ukrainian and was
respected by the Ukrainian men. However, Russian soldiers, or Moskals, did not value Ukrainian
women as highly and behaved in the country as the hosts. Therefore, during ninetieth century a lot
of women were mistreated or raped and then impregnated by Russian officers. Shevchenko, in the
poem "Kateryna", in the tragedy of one girl, managed to see and show the tragedy of the whole
nation. Given the historical context, this poem can be

Relationship between the USSR and Ukraine in the 1930's
In the beginning of 1932, the Soviet government had sharply increased the Ukraine's production
quotas in the collectivized farms. This ensured that the people would not be able to meet them. This
resulted in an even larger widespread of starvation. In the summer of 1932, Stalin ordered a decree
that called for the arrest or execution of any person that was caught taking any amount of grain or
food item from their place of work. This led to military blockades stationed around many Ukrainian
villages, preventing food from coming in and the starving people from going out in search of food.
Soviet guards were brought into the villages to confiscate any hidden grain. Eventually all food from
any farmer's home was taken. When news of the Famine reached the outside world, food supplies
were sent from the United States and Britain, however through Stalin, the shipments were denied
and new policies from the Soviet Union that denied their part in the famine refused all outside aid
were instilled. Stalin refused entry even to journalists, as he feared the media would reveal the
Soviet Unions' crimes against the Ukraine. Stalin used the money gained from exporting the
Ukrainians grain to fuel his Five Year Plan to transform the Soviet Union into a world power. He did
this by buying many products and weapons from western countries, thus causing them to stay quiet
in regards to the famine. At this stage though, the grain was not yet shipped out and was kept in

In 1921, the Russian Red Army conquered the majority of the Ukraine, while the rest became part of
Poland. For years, Russia was in control and caused many problems, including the deportation of
thousands of Crimeans suspected of being involved with the Nazi party. In 1945, after having been
victorious in World War II, the Soviet Union annexed the rest of the Ukraine, formerly occupied by
Poland. In 1954, the Soviet government gave the Crimean peninsula to the Ukraine as a gesture,

there was a growing Ukrainian desire to break away from Russia. Finally, in 1991, the Ukraine

There are many places on Earth that have a disputable history. Crimea is somewhere in the top of
those places. This is due to the very complex situations that this peninsula and its inhabitants have
faced throughout the history. Undoubtedly, history is one of the complex factors that played a crucial
role and ultimately led to the seizure of the peninsula. First inhabitants of Crimea were the
Cimmerian people in the 5th century B.C. They were followed by Greeks in the 1st century B.C. and
then by Romans in 1st A.D. During the next millennium, the peninsula was overrun by many tribes.

Tatars. Meanwhile, the percentage of Russians increased to 59% (Piticar 2014, 439). According to
the above demographics, in Crimea there was almost no native population by 2014. The result of
this situation was felt prior and during the annexation process of Crimea in February – March 2014.
When it became obvious that an invasion force was aggressing the peninsula, many people were
actually happy to see that force and even helped it achieve its objectives. The reason was simple –
even if Ukrainian citizens, these people were of Russian ethnicity. All the above represent an
important factor that lead to the seizure of the Crimean peninsula. Another historical factor can be
considered the point that Crimean inhabitants had lived a "Russian way of life" for a long period.
Even after the soviet era, the Russian way of life continued almost at the same pace in the Crimean
peninsula, just like it did in other ex–Soviet countries. It was common to watch Russian television,

Essay on Russia Ukraine Crisis
Why Russia–Ukraine crisis was caused by Russia's attempt to protect its economy and sovereignty.
The topic of international relations has been gaining significance in the modern world following the
increase in the popularity of globalization and the need for peaceful coexistence between nations.
The high rate of advancement of communication technology, complex global economy, faster means
of transport and an increase in value for cooperative relationships are vital to the global society
(Almoni 1). A positive relationship between countries, especially the neighboring ones is expected
to facilitate the formulation of effective trade agreements. In addition, the issue of immigration or

However, Russia refused to acknowledge the new leadership stating that it came into power through
unconstitutional means and armed insurrection. This was cited as the major excuse for Russia to
deploy troops in Crimea to protect the majority Russian residents from extreme right forces. The
two countries, Russia and Ukraine, had different reactions towards the armed violence and
impeachment of the Ukrainian president. Although the majority of the Ukrainians opposed Viktor's
decision to procrastinate the signing the EU–Ukraine integration agreement, all the ex–presidents
accused for its interference with the affairs of Crimean. The former presidents of Ukraine, including
Leonid Kravchuk and Leonid Kuchma described the present crisis as Russia's political interventions
designed to interfere with the internal affairs of Ukraine and its relationship with the European
Union (Hanschke 1). The people of Crimea have not been seeking for secession from Ukraine, but
their interest is to have extended autonomy and rights to govern the Crimean affairs with minimum
involvement of the government of Ukraine. Russia, on the other hand, have dismissed the accusation
and stated that it is pursuing the interest of the people of Crimea to join the Federation of Russia.
Russia holds that the people of Crimea have the power to decide the future of their territory and
Russia will be ready to respect their decision. Study shows that about 90

The Situation Of Ukraine As A Crisis
In 2014 the situation in Ukraine truly became a crisis. Then president, Viktor Yanukovych's pro–
Russian stance made his leave of office in March 2014 quite the event. Russian troops immediately
began to mass near the Ukrainian border and set up camp at key points around the Crimean
peninsula. The Crimean Peninsula is a region in southern Ukraine that contains a significantly large
number of ethnic Russians. On March 16, a referendum to separate Crimea from Ukraine and join
Russia was voted on in Crimea under the close watch of pro–Russian troops. Within days Russia
annexed the peninsula causing uproar in the rest of Ukraine and the world. Ukraine soon responded
with military action against pro–Russian rebels in the east where Crimea is ... Show more content on

This independence was officially ended in 1922 when the Soviet Union incorporated Ukraine.
Under the control of the Soviets Ukraine was the site of several mass executions and famine's
ordered and/or caused by Stalin which killed around ten million people. This led to one of the
primary reasons for the conflict happening in the eastern part of the country today. Stalin sent
millions of Russians to the resource abundant east Ukraine. Former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine
Steven Pifer said that this cultural divide between the two parts of the country explains why "the
sense of Ukrainian nationalism is not as deep in the east as it is in the west," (Bates). Even when the
Nazis invaded the country many citizens were happy to be liberated from the Soviets. Unfortunately
the country became one of the bloodiest countries of the war having one–sixth (5.3 million people)
of its entire population killed. After the war Stalin once again executed more Ukrainians on the
grounds that they cooperated with the Nazis. Ukraine finally became fully independent in 1991
when over 90% of Ukrainians opted to declare independence from the collapsing Soviet Union.
Despite the country's formal independence the new Russian state continued to involve itself with
Ukraine. Ukraine's 2004 presidential election was fraught with fraud as the Kremlin supported
Viktor Yanukovych who was pro–Russian. This fraud led to what was known as the Orange
Revolution which kept power away from Yanukovych until 2010 when

Essay On Russia
"Russia denied its involvement in the fighting in Eastern Ukraine. In the beginning, one explanation
was that Russian soldiers turned up in Eastern Ukraine by mistake. When a group of Russian
paratroopers was arrested close to Mariupol, the Russian news stated "they patrolled the border and
got lost" (Bercean, 2016, Reisinger and Golts, 2014: 6). According to Bercean, Russia utilized the
tactic of "plausible negation." For example, Putin himself answered a question regarding the new
uniforms the unidentified soldiers were wearing. He said that those uniforms "could be bought from
any second hand store." This tactic may not demonstrate western strategy when using rhetoric, but it

A news agency called Pravda.ru released an article regarding Kiev and its supporters.
"Those who support this Genocide [sic], the US–EU–Nato, should stop shedding crocodile tears
when a civilian aircraft is downed. They are the ones whose support to the Kiev fascists made this
tragedy possible and even inevitable." (McIntosh, 2015). Because of this article and many others
like it, Putin and Russia are taking actions that are undermining and delegitimizing the West and the
international community as a whole. Even as the West are condemning obvious overstepping of
boundaries, international laws, and norms, the West are unable to act as decisively as they should.
Putin justifies his deployment of troops into Ukrainian territories under the guise of "liberating" and
defending ethnic Russians. This article is a more direct information attack on Ukraine and its
supporters. However, there are different ways that information warfare has been utilized. Russian
fed the propaganda machine to not only influence Ukraine, but also Russia itself and the Near

marriages were intended to take advantage of their historical conservatism to nudge them away from
the EU. The truth of the matter is that nothing on the EU's website implies the stipulation of having

Sovereignty In The United States
Sovereignty is the idea that there is no authority above the country. The governing body of the state
has supreme authority. The state has the power do anything without accountability which includes
making laws, imposing and collecting taxes, forming treaties, and declaring war or making peace.
Although this is the case in many countries, sovereignty is split with the people and the government.
The people in turn elect representatives to make these key decisions. In many cases power is not
split with the people. In those instances power is usually generated into the hands of one person or a
supreme ruler who probably took power and was not elected. There are states in the world who do
not have very clear rule inside their country which is called internal legitimacy. Usually, there are
certain groups in the country fighting for power after initial leadership was overthrown. This is a
dangerous area for many countries with threats such as Al–Qaeda or ISIS. So countries may give up
some of their power to protect themselves from these foreign invaders, which is called autonomy. ...

Among these tribes were Mongols and the Byzantines. Golden Horde, the Tatars, settled in Crimea
in the 15th century. The Tatars are considered Crimean natives. Although they later became Turkish
vassals, they remained very powerful and culture oriented. (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia
2013, 12). Until the Stalin era, the peninsula had been invaded by other countries, like Russia and
Germany (in World War 1). However, it became part of the USSR in 1921. Same as the other Soviet
Republics, the native population was sent to other parts of the USSR, while native Russians were
brought to the peninsula. The purpose was obvious – Russification (a form of cultural assimilation

Ukraine : A Large And Pivotal State
Introduction Ukraine is a large and pivotal state, occupying an important and sensitive location
between the Russian Federation and the eastern European states. The country borders several
members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), such as Poland and Romania. Up until
1991, Ukraine was a member of the Soviet Union. Their independence has long been the source of
conflict and dispute in the region, and has led to violent armed conflict in recent years. The country
has a rich history and unique culture which deserve detailed analysis. In this paper, I will explore the
geography, society, government, economy, infrastructure, military, and transnational issues of
Ukraine.
Geography
Ukraine derives its name for the old east Slavic word "ukraina," meaning borderland or militarized
border region. This accurately reflect the nature of the countries geography. Located in Eastern
Europe, Ukraine occupies 603,000 square kilometers, about the size of France. It sits on 2,300
kilometers of Black Sea waterfront. Poland, Romania, and Moldova share a western border. Russia
borders the country in the east.
Ukraine has a temperate continental climate. The average annual temperatures range from 41–44 °F
in northern Ukraine to 51–55 °F in the southern parts of the country. The average temperature in
January, the coldest month, is about 25° F in the southwest and about 19° F in the north. July is
typically the hottest month, with an average temperature of about 73° F in the

Ukrainian citizens need to understand, however, that the government of Ukraine is the lesser of two

Unlike the rest of Ukraine, Eastern Ukrainians have received more of a cultural and linguistic
influence from Russia. The Ukrainian people are descended from the nomadic, free Cossacks. The
Cossacks "neither loved the tsar not the [Polish] lord" and were a people totally separate from the
Russians and Polish (Magosci 19). The roots of Russia and Ukraine reveal that the name Russia is
derived from the word Kievian Rus. The Kievian Rus were Ukrainian people who had established
Kiev, "the capital of the ancient Russian state" (ExpatRu). The name "Russia" was eventually
adopted by Peter the Great many years later. The Russian–speaking Ukrainians have been
influenced a lot by Russian culture; they have adopted the language due to the constant transfer of
power between Russia (including the USSR) and other countries. Due to the lack of this knowledge,
the rebels have successfully manipulated the minds of the Russian–speaking citizens into thinking
they are ethnic Russians. The support the rebels show toward Russia has given them protection;
Russia already seeks to expand its territory, so they completely support anything the rebels do.
Historically, Ukrainians and many western Russians are Ukrainian; the arrogance the rebels have

Economic Instability And The Political Situation
There are four aspects comprising any development, such as economic, environmental, social, and
political, which are deeply interlinked. Analysts are using the "ripple" effect to outline the manner in
which these four aspects of growth and development are connected. Any slight change within each
of the highlighted facets of growth influences the other three. For example, economic instability has
a profound effect on the social, political, and environmental pendulum. This work will outline the
relationship between these four concepts analysing reverberation of economic instability within
various regional blocks towards other aspects of growth and development. Considering political
instability in Ukraine, there is a following thesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ukraine, after witnessing the annexation of its Western segment, Crimea, is facing an uphill task
trying to solve the problem of the unstable human resource. In addition, the constant rebellion by the
pro–Russian separatist is threatening the investment atmosphere in Ukraine. Russia, on the other
hand, suffers from the global problem for its acts of aggression against Ukraine. The Russians are
facing huge sanctions from their trade partners, majorly from the European Union. Such sanctions
include ban on Russian exports and products in general. Consequently, the two economic blocks
remain widely feeble with Ukraine due to its smaller economic construct.
Invasion of Crimea Global economic analysts have labelled Russia's invasion of Crimea as an
"economic warfare." While the political issues surrounding the annexation are not entirely the
subject of this work, understanding the annexation of the region is likely to reveal the interest of the
Russian administration to control the peninsula and the reserve of oil and gases within the sea.
However, joining the jigsaw reveals intense power play between the two countries and there is
sufficient logical progression showing that the power play within the territory of Ukrainian implies
"safeguarding" of their powerful global stature.

question and this issue led to the election

American values, was educated at the best American schools, worked for the best American

Zhuk did a poor job recognizing these differences within himself and the environment in Kiev. In
Unit 2 of our management course one of the topics discussed was cultural differences and IQ, Zhuk
made the ill–founded assumption that because his lineage traced back to Ukraine, he was connected
to and understood the business environment. He couldn't have been more wrong.
It is only reasonable that any investor interested in starting a company in a developing nation to
research and investigate the business landscape in such an unfamiliar terrain before opening up
operations there. This is beneficial, as it will provide the prospective investor with important
information about the business environment and practices. In particular, an investor should analyze
the labor market, examine the costs of founding a company and consider the possible business ethics
challenges. In our case, Zhuk needed to make certain his business strategy was in tune with the local
culture, business practices and laws in Ukraine.

United States, The European Union consisting of 28 nations, Norway, Canada and Australia. The
stricter sanctions put on Russia on July 16 by the United States and the Western World were an

The Silk Road
The Silk Road The Han Dynasty brought much peace and prosperity to the people of China. During
this Dynasty, there was a great feat of economic advancement. A massive trade route existed that
went through China's roughly 9.5 million square kilometers and passed through the Middle East
then into Europe. The incredible route passed through rough terrain and deserts, including the
desolate Gobi Desert. It was available to the merchants who were willing to brave the great distance
from China to Europe. This route, became known as the Silk Road. The Silk Road was a major point
of commerce for the Chinese as well as the rest of the eastern world and even parts of the western
world. Certain routes on the Silk Road were used before the Han Dynasty and even more were used
after. The Silk Road produced great prosperity in business and culture as well as "art, religion,
philosophy, technology, language, science, architecture, and every other element of civilization"
(Mark). Throughout time and the progression of technology, trade became more powerful at sea.
The old Silk Road started to become less traveled as merchants could make more money through sea

Russia needs to be able to reach the sea but is limited by its geography and size. Therefore, their
ports in both the south and north seas that lead to greater waters are extremely crucial. Sevastopol is
their naval base at Crimea and with its location it is strategically important for Russia. A 1997 treaty
named The Treaty of Friendship and Co–operation had allowed Russia to keep their naval base
intact up to 2042 by renting it from the Ukrainian government. The renting of the naval base gives
Russia rights to exercise their military power which is seen by many Ukrainians as undermining
their independence. The base is very important for Russia's power and external sovereignty (Yuhas
& Jalabi, 2014). Power is defined as the ability to effect change in the world and Russia uses the
naval base to do this (Kirsch, 2017). They used it in the 2008 war with Georgia where it was used to
stage stage blockades in the Black Sea, and it is also important in the Syrian civil war (Yuhas &
Jalabi, 2014). If looking through offensive realism, then the fear of losing the important naval base
is the thing that triggered the invasion. Russia wants to maintain their external sovereignty which
they do through military bases around the world. Sovereignty is defined as a state's independence,
its control over territory and its ability to govern itself (Kirsch, 2017). External sovereignty concerns
the relationship between a sovereign power and other states (Sovereignty, 2018). After the invasion
and annexation, Russia started to modernize the Black Sea Fleet which has the intention to increase
Russia power over the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. This is connected to offensive realism
which says that survival is a state's primary goal. Russia's build–up of their fleets, especially the
Black Sea Fleet can be a way to survive in the anarchical world system (Gramer, 2016). In

The Russian Federation Of The Crimean Peninsula
On March 21 2014, the Russian Federation officially annexed the Crimean Peninsula after a well
conducted, hybrid type operation. Throughout the history, Crimea was a peninsula of numerous
disputes and fierce battles among different nations. Its location made it a strategic objective in the
Black Sea Region. The Crimean Peninsula became even more valuable to a country that desperately
needed access to the warm waters of this sea – the Russian Federation (Piticar 2014, 438).
Moreover, this peninsula gave Russia access to the Mediterranean Sea and from there to both the
Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. In order to get this strategic objective, Russia conducted a very
complex operation that shook the whole world and changed the way the ... Show more content on

This is due to the very complex situations that this peninsula and its inhabitants have faced
throughout the history. Undoubtedly, history is one of the complex factors that played a crucial role
and ultimately led to the seizure of the peninsula. First inhabitants of Crimea were the Cimmerian
people in the 5th century B.C. They were followed by Greeks in the 1st century B.C. and then by
Romans in 1st A.D. During the next millennium, the peninsula was overrun by many tribes. Among
these tribes were Mongols and the Byzantines. Golden Horde, the Tatars, settled in Crimea in the
15th century.
The purpose was obvious – Russification (a form of cultural assimilation
of a nation, making them pro–Russian) of the occupied or annexed territory (Ahsan 2015, 27).
While in the Soviet Union, Crimea became part of the Russian Republic in 1945. Later, it was
transferred to Ukraine in 1954 and remained part of it after the collapse of the Soviet Union. All

WESTERNERS HELPING PRO–RUSSIAN SEPARATISTS BATTLE UKRAINIAN
GOVERNMENT
Dagger Brigade may observe Americans and westerners operating within Poland, Ukraine, and the
surrounding areas. Soldiers, at all levels, need to be aware of their presence and possible intent to
gain access to operational information in order to support Russia.
Since DEC14, westerners have used crowdfunding websites (Gofundme, Justgiving, Indiegogo, etc.)
To help support Russian influence throughout Ukraine. This support comes in the form of fighting
as well as the spread of pro–Russian propaganda. Crowdfunding websites have attempted to crack
down on using their sites to fund violent action with minimal success.

On 25JUL17, Germany called for additional sanctions on Russia, urging the EU to add up to four
more Russian nationals and companies to the bloc's sanctions blacklist over gas turbines. The
German governments said that these turbines were illegally moved to Crimea to help support
separatist operations. The proposed additions to the blacklist could include Russian Energy Ministry
officials and the Russian company that moved the turbines to the Black Sea peninsula.

Ukraine Culture Vs American Culture

  • 1. Ukraine Culture Vs American Culture Human beings are a social species that relies heavily on human interaction throughout their daily lives. There are roughly six billion people on this earth, and those human beings inhabit one hundred and ninety six countries. The varying countries have developed their own customs, languages, values, music, and style that give them their own identity, or "culture." According to the Oxford dictionary, culture is defined as "the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society [1]." An understanding of the meaning of culture and its characteristics provides the foundation to better comprehend specific cultures. By exploring a country's cultural identity, one can gain a better understanding of a country's values and viewpoints within a global context. Through an exploration of culture and its characteristics as well as the specific culture of Ukraine, it can be argued that the current conflict in Ukraine could potentially become an area of conflict for the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Culture has existed since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within any cultural group, a set of behaviors and courtesies becomes the norm and is passed to the next generation. As time passes and the world progresses, cultures adapt and evolve. This is how some groups of humans have been able to go from hunter gatherers to living in modern, high–tech cities. As the human population expanded and began to inhabit areas all over the world, each group developed their own set of languages and cultural norms. As beautiful as it is to see countries have their own identity being defined by their culture, this can also lead to rivaling nations having conflict with others' ideals or beliefs. Many of the wars in human history have been fought due to such conflicts and that is why it is imperative that people develop cultural awareness to avoid such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ukraine Human Rights Essay Russia's Influence on Ukraine Human Rights By Samantha Semsel October 30, 2017 Throughout the Ukraine, thousands of civilians are living in fear from the dangers that lurk inside their country. Ever since the Ukraine and Russia entered into a tension building war that had everyone on edge in 2014, the Ukrainian citizens have been stripped of many human rights. As of 2015, there have been allegedly more than 10,000 people killed, 20,000 people wounded, and 1.4 internally displaced. With these major threats against the people of the Ukraine, the russians have been compromising the borders. • 5. International Reactions to the Ukraine-Russia Crisis There has been a range of international reactions to the crisis. The U.N. General Assembly passed a non–binding resolution 100 in favor, 11 against and 58 abstentions in the 193–nation assembly that declared invalid Crimea's Moscow–backed referendum. The United States followed suit by imposing sanctions against persons they deem to have violated or assisted in the violation of Ukraine's sovereignty, which were mostly close aides of Putin. "We want the Ukrainian people to determine their own destiny and to have good relations with the United States, Russia, Europe, with anyone they choose" said Obama. The US Department of Treasury introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and organizations, including four banks including SMP Bank and InvestCapitalBank, controlled by the Rotenberg brothers. 17 Russian companies were also sanctioned against. The European Union suspended talks with Russia on economic and visa related matters; on March 12, the European Parliament rejected the referendum on independence in Crimea, which they saw as manipulated and contrary to international and Ukrainian law. It moved for sanctions against a total of 48 people which included General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian general staff and first deputy defence minister, and Lieutenant General Igor Sergun, identified as the head of GRU, the Russian military intelligence agency. • 7. Deutsche Brauerei As A Brewing Company Essay Deutsche Brauerei is a brewing company that produces two different kinds of beer, dark and light. The brewery is located in a small village just outside of Munich, Germany. Their brewing techniques have consistently won several quality awards over the years. Deutsche was founded in 1737 by Gustav Schweitzer, whose picture is printed on the label of each bottle of beer that Deutsche sells. The company has been in the family for 12 generations and currently is collectively owned by 16 aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Schweitzer family. The brewery is capable of producing 1.2 million hectoliters of beer due to the purchase of new equipment in 1994. The new equipment allowed for a lot of production capacity to go unused. This helped lead to the expansion into Ukraine in 1998. The Schweitzer family decided to enter the Ukrainian market through a network of independent distributors. Lukas Schweitzer, the general manager of the company, decided to hire Oleg Pinchuk to aggressively market the beer in Ukraine. Lukas has asked for a recommendation on three important decisions that the board of directors must make. The first is the acceptance of the forecasted 2001 and 2002 budget. This is an important decision to be made because if the company is going to keep expanding at an astounding rate, the company will need to know how they are going to finance the expansion. This could include issuing more debt and increasing their interest expenses. The second topic to discuss is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this assignment, our task was to find a published piece of work and change its genre drastically. Then we had to analyze which genre is the best for presenting the information that we have. The topic that my partner and I chose was about the Ukrainian crisis. The primary genre is a blog post from The Washington Post and the secondary genre is a poem. It is not easy to say which genre works the best in this situation; however the primary genre is more effective because it is well organized, presents facts, and includes details. The primary genre is the blog article from the online newspaper. The author of this article argues that there are many reasons why the crisis in Ukraine happened and that there are many sides to the story. However, he highlights two major views. One view is that Ukrainians got tired of the authoritative pro–Russian corrupt president and decided to fight for their freedom and democracy by supporting the idea of entering the European Union. The other view is that the whole problem in Ukraine is not the president himself, it is his origin. The president is from the East of Ukraine, which is a Russian speaking part of the country that does not want to be part of the European Union and is happy to be part of the pro–Russian trade union. However, many western bloggers and media present only one side of the story, ignoring a big population ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Soviet Regime And Cultural Organizations Once the revolution ended and matters of politics and international disputes had calmed, educational and cultural organizations began to reemerge with the hopes of reinforcing Ukrainian values and culture. Cultural organizations sought to clearly establish that Ukrainians did not want to be part of the Soviet regime and that the two ethnicities had little in common. One of these groups was "Prosvita" or "Enlightenment" (Senyura 2012 pp.37–38). It consisted of many high–ranking intellectuals who aspired to further their culture and make theater accessible even to the Rusyns who lived in "dark villages" (Senyura 2012 pp.36). The late 19th and 20th centuries experienced the largest and most significant part of theater history in Ukraine. During this time period, the National Theater opened in Kyiv, giving the recent strides in this discipline the proper recognition it deserved. Playwrights such as Les Kurbas (1887–1937) , Mikola Kulish (1892–1937) , and Lesya Ukrainka (1871–1913) , all contributed to new plays such as In The Thicket, but also created their own interpretations of very famous plays like Oedipus Rex (Ukraine pg.1,2). This was the same time period in which major critics finally recognized Ukrainian theater. Les Kurbas took one of his production designs to the World Fair in Paris in 1925 and received praise from very distinguished critics, including a Soviet, Osip Mandelstam, who heaped Kurbas' work with praise despite being very famous for his harsh criticisms (Ukraine pg. 1,2). Many young thinkers and artists also perished as a result of the Soviet regime. Les Kurbas and Mykola Kulish were executed, along with many others, in the "Executed Renaissance". Many literary geniuses from Ukraine were censored and killed as part of Stalin's programs, which began in 1920, repressing Ukrainian creativity and development in other spheres of literature, not just theater (Executed Renaissance 2011, Studio 1+1). • 19. Dancing In Odessa Analysis To understand Dancing in Odessa, one must understand pain, loss, and love, often at the same time. Kaminsky embodies a variety of emotions throughout his book that has sent me through the five stages of grief as well as an outpour of love and happiness. To understand Kaminsky, one must understand the history and struggle of the Ukrainian population as a whole, and only then will the reader achieve understanding of his poetry collection Dancing in Odessa, which pulls from Kaminsky's own personal experiences as well as those around him. Ilya Kaminsky was born 1977 in Odessa, Ukraine of the former Soviet Union in a time of political unrest (Poetry Foundation). Ukraine has had a history of political unrest under the Soviet Union, and with Kaminsky being of Jewish descent, he would have been under immense fear. Ukraine's Jewish population lost most of its 1.5 million population to Nazi Germany in World War II. While the effects of the war lessened tremendously after the war, the history must haunt the community. In the late 1900s, Ukraine sought independence from the Soviet Union, which was achieved in 1991 along with the fall of the Soviet Union. However, independence did not come without a cost to the Ukrainians. In 1972, only five years before Kaminsky was born, a repression effort of refuseniks was launched by the Soviet Union ("Ukraine Profile – Timeline"). Satire and Critique in Dead Soul by Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol A Satire for the Ages Satirical fiction, although unique and one of a kind in its nature, has continued to be an enthralling and captivating subject out of the plethora of themes that exist throughout literature history and thrive to this day. While the many forms of humor that appear throughout a novel, from comical, ironic characters to witty, exaggerated plots, are often considered tame and childish themes, authors, skillful and clever alike, are able to utilize such forms of humor and transform them into a means of stirring emotion within their audiences, in order to deliver logical, yet powerful messages. But as Tchitchikov visits individual after individual, the honest picture of the "hero" is slowly unveiled–thus the very first message Gogol delivers is not to judge any noble by mere appearance. Although Tchitchikov does indeed possess many great social qualities, he uses them only to his advantage. Tchitchikov sweet talks every noble he encounters and, whether it be by overpowering them with intellect or by playing them with words, forces them to give him the dead "souls" that he desires. In addition, Tchitchikov, throughout the account, continues to resort to immoral decisions. While he had gained many friends of high status in the town of N, he finds himself abusing their kindness and hospitality to try and get rich, which ultimately ruins him soon after. A second time, while having the opportunity to settle down and earn money honestly, he finds himself getting caught up in a scandal. Gogol very comically criticizes how, unless deciding to change, Russian nobles, in their pride and greed, will continue to make the same mistakes, time and time again. Another means by which Gogol is able to present a satire of Russian life is the portrayal of women throughout the novel. The first woman Tchitchikov encounters is Madame Korobotcha. Along with the poem "Kateryna", women are used quite heavily by the author. The women in his poetry appear to symbolize the czarist imposition of serfdom in the Ukraine. The irony was written when his own freedom was purchased by a friend. Women are usually seen as becoming impregnated by Moscals and then abandon by their impregnators. (Early Ukrainian Identity) Next, tracing the central literary themes within his works does even more to help define the development of Ukrainian national identity to the present–day. Two interlocking central themes permeate his works and therefore early conceptions of Ukrainian identity: alienation (in Ukrainian, отчуждення) and dependency (залежність), which combine to disclose a new sense of Ukrainian national spirit (народність): modern Ukraine resents abuses by, yet recognizes its historical dependency on, outsiders. Depending heavily upon these central themes in Shevchenko, an otherwise callow Ukrainian nation is able to identify itself with distinct and defiant historic claims to territory, memories, and myths that distinguish and thereby legitimatize Ukraine as an independent nation. (Early Ukrainian Identity) Traditionally, in Ukraine women were not only mothers, sisters, or wives, they also symbolized the Protecting goddess (Ukrainian Berehynya). This figure was holy for every Ukrainian and was respected by the Ukrainian men. However, Russian soldiers, or Moskals, did not value Ukrainian women as highly and behaved in the country as the hosts. Therefore, during ninetieth century a lot of women were mistreated or raped and then impregnated by Russian officers. This ensured that the people would not be able to meet them. This resulted in an even larger widespread of starvation. In the summer of 1932, Stalin ordered a decree that called for the arrest or execution of any person that was caught taking any amount of grain or food item from their place of work. This led to military blockades stationed around many Ukrainian villages, preventing food from coming in and the starving people from going out in search of food. Soviet guards were brought into the villages to confiscate any hidden grain. Eventually all food from any farmer's home was taken. When news of the Famine reached the outside world, food supplies were sent from the United States and Britain, however through Stalin, the shipments were denied and new policies from the Soviet Union that denied their part in the famine refused all outside aid were instilled. Stalin refused entry even to journalists, as he feared the media would reveal the Soviet Unions' crimes against the Ukraine. Stalin used the money gained from exporting the Ukrainians grain to fuel his Five Year Plan to transform the Soviet Union into a world power. This is due to the very complex situations that this peninsula and its inhabitants have faced throughout the history. Undoubtedly, history is one of the complex factors that played a crucial role and ultimately led to the seizure of the peninsula. First inhabitants of Crimea were the Cimmerian people in the 5th century B.C. They were followed by Greeks in the 1st century B.C. and then by Romans in 1st A.D. During the next millennium, the peninsula was overrun by many tribes. Among these tribes were Mongols and the Byzantines. Golden Horde, the Tatars, settled in Crimea in the 15th century. Furthermore, all these countries, especially USSR, were trying to influence and even displace the population. Meanwhile, the percentage of Russians increased to 59% (Piticar 2014, 439). According to the above demographics, in Crimea there was almost no native population by 2014. The result of this situation was felt prior and during the annexation process of Crimea in February – March 2014. When it became obvious that an invasion force was aggressing the peninsula, many people were actually happy to see that force and even helped it achieve its objectives. The reason was simple – even if Ukrainian citizens, these people were of Russian ethnicity. All the above represent an important factor that lead to the seizure of the Crimean peninsula. Another historical factor can be considered the point that Crimean inhabitants had lived a "Russian way of life" for a long period. I completely agree because it is very rare to meet a person in Ukraine who loudly speaks or laughs in public places. We do not notice it, but this is a part of our culture. Parents usually teach their kids to be calm and a quiet in public places. Most likely, we seem very hard outside, but Ukrainians are very fragile and tender inside. • 49. Sovereignty In The United States Sovereignty is the idea that there is no authority above the country. The governing body of the state has supreme authority. The state has the power do anything without accountability which includes making laws, imposing and collecting taxes, forming treaties, and declaring war or making peace. Although this is the case in many countries, sovereignty is split with the people and the government. The people in turn elect representatives to make these key decisions. In many cases power is not split with the people. In those instances power is usually generated into the hands of one person or a supreme ruler who probably took power and was not elected. There are states in the world who do not have very clear rule inside their country which is called internal legitimacy. Usually, there are certain groups in the country fighting for power after initial leadership was overthrown. This is a dangerous area for many countries with threats such as Al–Qaeda or ISIS. So countries may give up some of their power to protect themselves from these foreign invaders, which is called autonomy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 53. Ukraine : A Large And Pivotal State Introduction Ukraine is a large and pivotal state, occupying an important and sensitive location between the Russian Federation and the eastern European states. The country borders several members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), such as Poland and Romania. Up until 1991, Ukraine was a member of the Soviet Union. Their independence has long been the source of conflict and dispute in the region, and has led to violent armed conflict in recent years. The country has a rich history and unique culture which deserve detailed analysis. In this paper, I will explore the geography, society, government, economy, infrastructure, military, and transnational issues of Ukraine. Geography Ukraine derives its name for the old east Slavic word "ukraina," meaning borderland or militarized border region. This accurately reflect the nature of the countries geography. Located in Eastern Europe, Ukraine occupies 603,000 square kilometers, about the size of France. It sits on 2,300 kilometers of Black Sea waterfront. Poland, Romania, and Moldova share a western border. Russia borders the country in the east. Ukraine has a temperate continental climate. The average annual temperatures range from 41–44 °F in northern Ukraine to 51–55 °F in the southern parts of the country. The average temperature in January, the coldest month, is about 25° F in the southwest and about 19° F in the north. The militants, Pro–Russian rebels native to Ukraine, believe that their actions against the government are just. Those who believe that the Pro– Russian Ukrainian rebels are fighting against a corrupt, ultranationalist government are right. The Ukrainian citizens need to understand, however, that the government of Ukraine is the lesser of two evils; the rebels have committed many more heinous crimes than the government has. The Ukrainian people are descended from the nomadic, free Cossacks. The Cossacks "neither loved the tsar not the [Polish] lord" and were a people totally separate from the Russians and Polish (Magosci 19). The roots of Russia and Ukraine reveal that the name Russia is derived from the word Kievian Rus. The Kievian Rus were Ukrainian people who had established Kiev, "the capital of the ancient Russian state" (ExpatRu). The name "Russia" was eventually adopted by Peter the Great many years later. The Russian–speaking Ukrainians have been influenced a lot by Russian culture; they have adopted the language due to the constant transfer of power between Russia (including the USSR) and other countries. Due to the lack of this knowledge, the rebels have successfully manipulated the minds of the Russian–speaking citizens into thinking they are ethnic Russians. The support the rebels show toward Russia has given them protection; Russia already seeks to expand its territory, so they completely support anything the rebels do. • 59. Economic Instability And The Political Situation There are four aspects comprising any development, such as economic, environmental, social, and political, which are deeply interlinked. Analysts are using the "ripple" effect to outline the manner in which these four aspects of growth and development are connected. Any slight change within each of the highlighted facets of growth influences the other three. For example, economic instability has a profound effect on the social, political, and environmental pendulum. This work will outline the relationship between these four concepts analysing reverberation of economic instability within various regional blocks towards other aspects of growth and development. Ukraine, after witnessing the annexation of its Western segment, Crimea, is facing an uphill task trying to solve the problem of the unstable human resource. In addition, the constant rebellion by the pro–Russian separatist is threatening the investment atmosphere in Ukraine. Russia, on the other hand, suffers from the global problem for its acts of aggression against Ukraine. The Russians are facing huge sanctions from their trade partners, majorly from the European Union. Such sanctions include ban on Russian exports and products in general. Consequently, the two economic blocks remain widely feeble with Ukraine due to its smaller economic construct. Invasion of Crimea Global economic analysts have labelled Russia's invasion of Crimea as an "economic warfare." While the political issues surrounding the annexation are not entirely the subject of this work, understanding the annexation of the region is likely to reveal the interest of the Russian administration to control the peninsula and the reserve of oil and gases within the sea. However, joining the jigsaw reveals intense power play between the two countries and there is sufficient logical progression showing that the power play within the territory of Ukrainian implies "safeguarding" of their powerful global stature. The case describes the types of obstacles and ethical dilemmas being created for the investors as a result of bribery and extortion. In Unit 2 of our management course one of the topics discussed was cultural differences and IQ, Zhuk made the ill–founded assumption that because his lineage traced back to Ukraine, he was connected to and understood the business environment. He couldn't have been more wrong. It is only reasonable that any investor interested in starting a company in a developing nation to research and investigate the business landscape in such an unfamiliar terrain before opening up operations there. This is beneficial, as it will provide the prospective investor with important information about the business environment and practices. In particular, an investor should analyze the labor market, examine the costs of founding a company and consider the possible business ethics challenges. In our case, Zhuk needed to make certain his business strategy was in tune with the local culture, business practices and laws in Ukraine. Cultural Framework

Mass protests broke out in dispute of the governments plan to drop agreements with the European Union and instead seek closer economic ties with Russia. Since the protests broke out Ukraine has seen an ongoing conflict in the east of the country. With a population of 52 million and a strategic and position ensuring that the delivery of oil and gas via pipelines runs through its territories to the west geographically vital to the rest of Europe. In 1995 under the communist government, President Leonid Kuchman used his power to remove all gas and oil enterprises from the countries privatization list. This contributing to an already high state budget deficit, created an environment where no realistic chances of meeting agreements made to the IMF and World Bank, to reduce the state budget deficit, could be met. A massive trade route existed that went through China's roughly 9.5 million square kilometers and passed through the Middle East then into Europe. The incredible route passed through rough terrain and deserts, including the desolate Gobi Desert. It was available to the merchants who were willing to brave the great distance from China to Europe. This route, became known as the Silk Road. The Silk Road was a major point of commerce for the Chinese as well as the rest of the eastern world and even parts of the western world. Certain routes on the Silk Road were used before the Han Dynasty and even more were used after. The Silk Road produced great prosperity in business and culture as well as "art, religion, philosophy, technology, language, science, architecture, and every other element of civilization" (Mark). Throughout time and the progression of technology, trade became more powerful at sea. The old Silk Road started to become less traveled as merchants could make more money through sea trade and spend less on caravans traveling on the trail. Crimea is an autonomous republic located in southern Ukraine. It first became Russian territory in 1783 when Catherine II annexed it. Crimean Tartars declared Crimea as an independent democratic republic and after the October Revolution which ended the Russian Empire in 1917, Crimea was briefly a sovereign state. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Russia needs to be able to reach the sea but is limited by its geography and size. Therefore, their ports in both the south and north seas that lead to greater waters are extremely crucial. Sevastopol is their naval base at Crimea and with its location it is strategically important for Russia. A 1997 treaty named The Treaty of Friendship and Co–operation had allowed Russia to keep their naval base intact up to 2042 by renting it from the Ukrainian government. The renting of the naval base gives Russia rights to exercise their military power which is seen by many Ukrainians as undermining their independence. The base is very important for Russia's power and external sovereignty (Yuhas & Jalabi, 2014). Power is defined as the ability to effect change in the world and Russia uses the naval base to do this (Kirsch, 2017). They used it in the 2008 war with Georgia where it was used to stage stage blockades in the Black Sea, and it is also important in the Syrian civil war (Yuhas & Jalabi, 2014). If looking through offensive realism, then the fear of losing the important naval base is the thing that triggered the invasion. Russia wants to maintain their external sovereignty which they do through military bases around the world. Sovereignty is defined as a state's independence, its control over territory and its ability to govern itself (Kirsch, 2017). External sovereignty concerns the relationship between a sovereign power and other states (Sovereignty, 2018). After the invasion and annexation, Russia started to modernize the Black Sea Fleet which has the intention to increase Russia power over the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. This is connected to offensive realism which says that survival is a state's primary goal. Russia's build–up of their fleets, especially the Black Sea Fleet can be a way to survive in the anarchical world system (Gramer, 2016). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
