families first. The show Toddlers & Tiaras is an example because it follows families of young
contestants in child beauty pageants. Contestants' moms train and force their young girls closely

In Zadie Smith's On Beauty, one main struggle that all the female characters have in common is
body image. The burden of a woman's body remains a main premise throughout the entire novel as
the characters define their worth and have their worth defined by others based on their physical
appearance. The female body is viewed by characters in different ways based on gender and age.
The men in the novel view women's in terms of their sexual worth as they focus on a woman's
physical appearance rather than her internal beauty, intellect and strengths. The older women in the

Natural beauty, in this day and age, is a term that has many definitions because it is a controversial
term. With the way people dress, act, and express themselves, it is extremely hard to find the true
denotation of natural beauty. This is also true with the growing popularity in makeup in both
genders. When asked to define it, people have formed their own opinions of the term along with the
commonly known denotation, connotation, synonyms, and antonyms. The definition of the term also
can be described and derived from my personal experiences along with others'. Though there is
much evidence for and against the belief, natural beauty is more than what's on the outside. Natural
beauty is not actually defined in a dictionary, but it is defined in its parts. Natural is defined as
something derived from nature and beauty is defined as physically appeasing to the senses and
mind. Therefore, natural beauty defined is one's appearance according to another's senses. This one
definition, but the other definition is the beauty within that comes from a person's personality. There
are also many words that are synonyms for the term. Some are, allure, charm, attraction, and
glamour. These work well to define natural beauty because they all describe the beauty inside a
person. On the other hand, many antonyms help define natural beauty; these are inelegance,
ugliness, and homliness. These prove the meaning of natural beauty because the antonyms describe
the outer beauty except inelegance. Inelegance describes the inability to be elegant which is
something you cannot touch. Natural beauty is the beauty within and not physical appearance.
Natural beauty is a term that is complicated to define, but not impossible with enough analysis.
While there are many online denotations of the words natural and beauty, past experiences of myself
and others can assist the derivation of the term. For an example, my Grandma has natural beauty.
She has had breast cancer multiple times and doesn't look perfect on the outside, but she has a kind
heart and lots of love which makes her naturally beautiful. She had always been a role model both in

Beauty and Body Image Zadie Smith's On Beauty is filled with characters who all readers can relate
to. The novel focuses primarily on the Belseys, who are a mixed race family living in Boston.
During the novel, the Belsey family members undergo challenges and situations that shape and mold
their identities. The father, Howard is in the middle of a mid life crisis struggling with lack of
success in his career, feeling stuck and his infidelity to his wife, Kiki. Kiki is also struggling with
aging and coming to terms with her changing body as well as the unknown fate of her marriage
following Howard's affair. The Belsey children, as well as Vee, the daughter of Howard's rival
Monty Kipps, struggle with their own coming of age stories as they emerge as young adults. One
main struggle that all the female characters have in common is body image. The burden of a
woman's body remains a main premise throughout the entire novel as the characters define their
worth and have their worth defined by others based on their physical appearance. The female body
is viewed by characters in different ways based on gender and age. The men in the novel view
women's in terms of their sexual worth. The older women in the novel have a more realistic view of

"If the world was blind how many people would you impress?" Boonaa Mohammed. This quote
speaks volumes and is prevalent to the beauty problems that have existed in the past and still exist
today. But what is beauty? Beauty is a combination of qualities such as shape, color, or form, that
pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. That's how the world looks at beauty and that is
how the children and this generation will look at it. Instead of school being a main priority, the
youth today focuses more on enhancing the outward appearance. How could we let happen? We
have allowed ourselves, who we declare so great to poison the children of society today. By
allowing them to believe that beauty comes from outward appearance and glamorous things we have
set a standard where one has to be in order to be deemed beautiful. But when it all boils down,
where do we look to define beauty? We in this society today look to define beauty in the movie , TV
shows, the internet, social media, and pageants, places where ideal beauty are more prominent.
Worst of all is that we look to actors who play roles or act a certain way in order to entertain. The
sad part is no matter how good those people are playing their role it isn't real. thus , where society
looks to define beauty isn't real. People don't want to see what's real because the reality of it is that
