Operation Determination Camp
In early autumn of 1941, Heinrich Himmler, the Reich leader of the SS and chief of German police,
instructs SS General Odilo Globocnik to carry out the mass extermination of the Jewish population
in the General Government. The General Government area was the German–occupied Poland not
directly annexed into Germany. Himmler's plan became known as Operation Reinhard and it
consisted of the construction of three mass killing camps – Belzec, Sobibor and Treblinka. Belzec
became the first extermination camp to become operational during World War II. Construction of
Belzec began on November 1, 1941 under the direction of SS and police personnel. Polish civilian
workers built the killing center outside of Belzec, which is located in southeast Poland. The camp
was very close in distance to a major rail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rudolf Reder, one of two survivors from Belzec, describes the thoughts of the Jews as they entered
Belzec. "We went on and nobody spoke–completely apathetic and silent. We knew that we were
being taken to our deaths and that we couldn't do anything about it." During the period between the
months of March and June of 1942, Belec had eliminated 85,000 Jews. Reder describes what the SS
men did with anyone who could not walk on their own. "The sick, the old, and small children were
thrown onto stretchers and taken to pits. There they were made to sit on the edge, while Irrmann–
one of the Gestapo–shot them and pushed their bodies into the pit with a rifle–butt." When every
able–bodied Jew had arrived at Belzec, they were assembled in a big group and the German
commander gave a speech. Reder remembers what Fritz Irrmann had said to the crowd. "You are
going to take a bath now. Afterwards, you will be sent to work." The objective of this speech was to
convince the Jews that Belzec was really a labor camp, but in reality, it was not what the Jews had
hoped

Comparing The Battle Of Stalingrad And Animal Farm
Battle of Stalingrad and Animal Farm
Even though in the book Animal Farm written by George Orwell doesnt tell the readers how all the
animals end up, or if they become happy and healthy, but The Battle of Stalingrad does. The Battle
of Stalingrad took place in the Soviet Union near the Volga River between July 17, 1942 and
February 2, 1943. The Soviet Union army at the battle of Stalingrad consisted of 1,000,500 men,
13,541 artillery guns, 894 tanks, and 1115 planes. The German military consisted of 1,011,500 men,
10,290 artillery guns, 675 tanks, and 1216 planes. The German military (Nazi) bombed Stalingrad
on June 22, 1942 in hopes to gain more power and eventually be a dictator over all of the world. The
Battle of Stalingrad is said to be the biggest turning point for all of Germany and The Soviet Union
during World War 2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the battle consisted of capturing a lot of the
other military and torchering them and or killing them. By the end of the battle
about 11,600 Germans were captured in that seven month period and only about
600 were said to be alive. Since Germany did not win this battle and
surrendered on February 2, 1942, the general over the army Friedrich von
Paulus was stripped from his position as being general by Adolf Hitler. The battle
came to a close when the Soviet Union military surrounded the German military
and forced them to surrender. The German army thought of getting more power
by bombing Russia just like the animals in Animal Farm written by George Orwell
thought, "He could somehow take advantage of Mr. Jones misfortune." The
German army as a whole didn't want the land, but they wanted more power just
like Napoleon.

Australia's Changing relations during the second world war...
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Australia as a nation was still very closely tied to the
British. Therefore when war was finally declared after a period of appeasement, Australia's Prime
Minister Robert Menzies of the United Australia Party, made his famous Melancholy Duty speech,
committing Australia to the war effort. However as the war waged on, and when Winston Churchill's
promised support was most needed, they weren't there. It was America that showed up to help save
our proud nation, leading to disillusionment in Britain's supposed benevolent power and a turn to the
USA for help. The change in Britain political and social influence in Australia during World War 2
was drastic and of extreme significance in shaping our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Curtin stood up to Churchill and demanded in the politest possible way to have our troops returned
in order to defend Australia (23rd February 1942) and the English Prime Minister eventually
conceded but it was too late. Our faith in the British had been shattered. Although Australia's
relationship with the British was weakened as the result of actions during WW2 our relationship
with the USA was the reciprocal; this period resulted in a strengthening of ties with the Americans.
A few key events were pivotal in this change. The first of these was when General Douglas
MacArthur took over the defence of Australia and the Pacific Campaign in March 1942, discarding
the current battle plan of holding 'The Brisbane Line'. Instead in his quote "...so I instantly changed
the conception (The Brisbane Line) with the basic thought that the 'battle of Australia' would be
settled in the little islands to the north, north–east and north–west. I would make my fight there –
win, lose or draw" explains that the battles, in which the fate of Australia would be decided, were to
occur in the Philippines. The major event resulting in the USA becoming such a prominent figure
relationship–wise to Australia is what is known as the Battle of the Coral Sea. In May 1942 Japan's
naval force tried to take Port Moresby, the last line of defence before Australia itself. However the
United States naval force in conjunction with the Australian ships, Australia and Hobart, forced the

A Short Story Of The Berlin Wall Between 1942-1989
Students are to create a short story with an exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and
denouement. The topic for the short story must relate to life on either side of the Berlin Wall
between 1942–1989
It was the end of 1941 and a family of four, soon to be five that lived on the west part of Berlin was
oblivious to what was to come. There was the Mother and Father of the family whose names were
Emma and Harald. Harald was in the military and was currently battling in World War II, however,
Emma was a stay at home mom and was carrying their fifth child which would be a little boy named
Markos. Erwin was the oldest of the three children. He had just turned 19 and his mother finally
agreed to letting him go into the military just as his father did. Hannah his little sister on the other
hand was not okay with her big brother going away to put his life in jeopardy. She and her big
brother were very close, Erwin was the one who took care of his mother and sister while his father
was away at war. Now Hannah and her mother were about to experience both men being away,
which will impact them tremendously.
Living in East Berlin was not easy and those that did not live there knew that, the ones that lived
there knew for sure that it was unappealing. Hannah the middle child had been living in poverty
since she was born and so had Erwin they both just handled it differently. She was 11 and very
adventurous being that her father was in the military and her mother

Ww1 Diary Report
June 1942 The boys and I are going away together for a while, we're going to guard St Port
Moresby. We've been told that we can bring our tennis rackets, cameras and all sorts of things. We
are excited about going away, it gives us a chance to travel and see new places, which is why I
joined the army. July 1942 We have started to walk up the Kokoda track and it is very steep. The
wether here isn't any better; throughout the day and night it rains and is extremely humid. Due to all
the rain, the terrain is covered in thick mud, making it hard to walk through as there is thick jungle
and high mountains. Whenever we get to a high part of the track, we have to go back down their
track again. The humidity around us is disgusting, it makes us all ... Show more content on

It was so good to see Australian faces. They gave us cigarettes, food, water and just were really
happy to see us. When the blokes arrived, we were offered to stay behind or go home. I chose to stay
as I wanted to stay with the blokes, they were so kind and gave us hope as we had been defeated.
August 1942 Today we dyed our uniforms, we were still using the uniforms made for the desert. All
the Japs can be hard to see as they camouflage well, so we want to do the same as it may be our only
way to survive. After we had dyed it, it took two hours to dry so we had to sit around naked.
Spetember 1942 All we can see and smell are dead bodies. The stench of the bodies make me feel
sick inside, its constant, even when we have time to eat we can smell it. When we were moving
around today we came across one of the spots where some of the blokes had been fighting. The sight
made me feel sick to my stomach. The Japs must've been here to seek revenge, there were soldiers
who had been killed and had their back and legs cut off, their flesh had been cooked. After seeing
this, I just can't handle it anymore. I've decided to go

William Henry Beveridge's Report 1942
William Henry Beveridge's Report 1942. There were several key points within Beveridge report, I
have written below some of the key points along with my evaluation of its significances. The
creation of a comprehensive social Insurance Scheme was created to cover people for loss of
earnings power and social spending around births, deaths and marriages. This scheme would help
cover families with extra expenses to decrease pressure on the rest of the family. If we didn't have
the comprehensive social insurance scheme system in place we would not be able to receive extra
funding for job seekers allowance, pensions and disability benefits. We would still be on the same
boat as the Victorians, although there have been many changes since then ... Show more content on

Want – Beveridge noticed that people did not have 'enough'. They didn't have enough money to live
on and provide food, clothing and couldn't afford medication for themselves or their families. These
people wanted to be able to have the basics to survive, but they either didn't work or were too sick to
work. We now have a system that gives people a chance to claim income support and national
insurance to cover these issues. Squalor – People were living in homes that were not big enough to
house their families. This caused illness to spread easily. Beveridge noticed that houses to rent were
more expensive in busy working areas like London then small towns and villages. Now we have
council houses, shared ownership properties and housing benefits for private rented accommodation
to help low income families. Properties are checked and assessed so there isn't over crowding which
is better for families and more hygienic. Ignorance – In the Victorian times education was not
compulsory as it is today, many children then left school at 14 years old to work and provide food
and money for their families. All children now must attend school and gain an education so every
child has an equal start in

Technicolor In Animated And Live-Action Film ( 1942 ) And...
Technicolor in Animated and Live–Action Film: Bambi (1942) and Becky Sharp (1935) Colour,
especially by today's audiences, is considered to be a staple in a film's mise–en–scene. It is generally
thought to be an attraction today if a film does not have colour, and it influences many different
readings of films. However, it was not always considered to be such an essential part of cinema. In
the early days of Technicolor, specifically in the mid–30s to early 40s, colour added to the aesthetic
of film. Specifically, the colour aesthetics of animated film and live–action film created different
readings of their respective films. For example, colour in Bambi (1942) was used to compliment and
indicate the setting and the tone and/or mood at specific points in the narrative, as well as to indicate
when important events were occurring in the film. These elements of the narrative are shown
through the colours of certain scenes themselves and the vibrancy of the colours. So with the help of
the colours in the film, the film itself can be read as a "growing–up tale". In comparison, a live–
action film, Becky Sharp (1935), colour is used in a contrasting way to emphasize certain parts of
the narrative, such as specific characters or themes in the film. In this case, the help of the colours
can help emphasize the main character of the film, Becky Sharp, in her journey to climb the social
ranks of the nineteenth century. In animated film, especially in terms of Walt Disney's animated

Analysis: Department Of Defense Workforce Analysis
No major organizational changes to the Department of Defense will have to be made in order to
fulfill the President's memorandum. Although there will not be major changes, there will be
interdepartmental streamlining in order to eliminate redundant positions and programs. The current
structure of the DoD continues to operate the way that it should, and although the president and
strategy may have changed the DoD will continue to operate with the current structure. The
Department will also continue to contract numerous agencies and contractors to complete specific
functions of the DoD. Workforce Development: Developing a skilled and reliable workforce is a

The course of action eliminates any potential setbacks that may have occurred due to budget cuts.
This COA also follows President Trumps wish to continue with growing our military and increase
defense spending considering it is a $2.4 billion increase from last fiscal year. Disadvantages: The
Department of Defense will fail to fulfill the presidential memorandum and continue to use the
current amount of funds. Programs and positions that are redundant or unneeded will continue
spending government funds that would otherwise not be spent. Alternative Two: Branch Cuts Scope:
Implement a 15% cut to each branch of the military. This will be an aggressive yet necessary cut in
order to meet the requirements of our presidential memorandum. The cuts include: reduce Army
budget from $148 billion to $125.8 billion, reduce Navy budget from $164.9 billion to $140.165
billion, reduce Air Force budget from $166.9 billion to $141.865 billion, and reduce the defense–
wide budget from $102.9 billion to $87.465 billion. This will result in the $87.404 billion cut needed
to achieve our budget goals. Cost: By evoking these measures, the Department of Defense will save
87.404 billion dollars which is slightly more than the necessary 87.4 billion in cuts that the
presidential memorandum calls for.

Grapes Of Wrath: Character Analysis And Summary
In this section of the novel, Kathy observes that the veteran couples in the cottages mimic behaviour
that they have seen on television programmes. Kathy then notices a change in the behaviour of Ruth,
she too begins to display behavioural traits picked up from TV and the veterans. These traits confuse
Tommy at first, when Ruth hits his arm he "[turns] abruptly to Ruth and [goes] 'what?'" to which
Ruth glares furiously, showing how they differ in personality (Ruth tries desperately to fit in,
Tommy does not). Kathy, who is particularly irritable on that day as Ruth has blurted out the entire
plot of the book Kathy was trying to read, confronts Ruth about how she hits Tommy's arm when
they say goodbye. Ruth claims not to know what Kathy is talking ... Show more content on

The idea of moving on is presented in this section by Ruth who suggests how the students of
Hailsham are gradually growing up and moving on from their Hailsham days, except from Kathy.
This brings us on to another theme which is the idea of friendship and relationships; Kathy and Ruth
begin to fight when Kathy mentions odd mannerisms in Ruth and Tommy's relationship, such as the
way she slaps his elbow when saying goodbye. Whilst arguing, we see that Ruth and Kathy's
friendship has become more distant that previously at Hailsham, as Ruth and Kathy do not get on as
well as they used to and have more disagreements. One explanation for this could be the fact that
Ruth seems to alter her personality and behaviour in order to fit in and attempt to be popular, this is
shown by the fact that she mimics the veterans at the cottages. Ruth's mimicking may also be
explained by the clones' lack of proper adult role models when growing up; the clones form
behavioural habits and learn how to act from copying characters in television programmes and
students older than them. This suggests to us the theme of family, or rather lack of it in the clones'
case, and how we learn from our parents and relatives around

Photos of Japanese American Children in Internment Camps, 1942–1945 Amid a growing anti–
Japanese sentiment during World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066
on February 19, 1942, which called for the evacuation of all persons of Japanese descent from the
West Coast. Many individuals and families evacuated to assembly centers and eventually internment
camps in ten inland locations across the country. Among the more than 100,000 people of Japanese
ancestry interned, many of those were children, and most of these children were American citizens.

These photos reveal the unconscious biases of the individual photographers that are simply
represented by the choice of subject matter in each photo or what a photographer decided to omit.
Another level of bias that must be considered is that of the evacuees themselves. It is not known
how many activities, if any, were staged for the camera but one can presume some self–
consciousness on the part of adults who were in charge of the children so that they would be
presented in a positive way. Photographs of children playing reveal how the WRA wanted interned
Japanese American children to appear carefree and wanted their lives in the camps to seem normal.
Photos from all ten camps show boys and girls involved in a variety of American activities: playing
games, sports, and playing with pets. One series of photos depicts a group of smiling boys and girls
huddled around a table playing the card game Black Jack.[3] Other photos show children engaged in
group–sports like volleyball, softball, and running races. All of these photos reveal smiling,
outwardly happy children with no mention of their forced confinement. The children are also shown

Separation Exists Between Society And The Penal System
Separation exists between society and the penal system, and due to this, there is a grave lack of
knowledge of what is happening behind bars and how we can improve the situation we have
currently in regards to the prison system. There are major flaws that exist within the penal system,
and Angela Davis highlighted the main one of secrecy. We know based off of research that our
prison population commonly consists of individuals who struggle academically (Petersilia, 2003, pg
32). Because of this lack of a strong education, they may not possess basic skills like reading, with
about 20 % performing at an illiterate level within state facilities (Petersilia, 2003, pg 32), which
prisons are not going around glorifying. Another sort of hidden and degrading factor that Davis does
not directly mention is the use of solitary confinement. We learned from Maggie's presentation the
harmful mental health effects on those whom are placed in solitary confinement (December 1,
presentations). While in solitary confinement, inmates are hidden away in "a place of punishment
within a place of punishment" (Conover, 2001, pg 126), while being degraded with neither little to
no time outside, nor any human interaction (Conover, 2001, pg 127). It's disturbing that it was not
intended as a form of punishment, yet is used as one now (October 22, film). During the History of
Prisons film we watched, they explained the use of solitary confinement for reflection purposes
(October 22, film).

The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 )
The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract
symbolism to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively
engage with the narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is
one being told at all. Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different
interpretations for one to understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of
Meshes can be seen to represent, embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the
world itself. The artisanal and avant–garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological
sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to a dream state, serves to explore the way in which
director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she allowed us to peer into through the lens of her
camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its primary form of language, with symbolic
communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also largely employs an expressive form of
emphasis through its use of mis–en–scene, as the entire film can be seen as the subconscious
expression of Maya Deren's thoughts of her life, specifically of her relationship with her husband
Alexander Hammid. Meshes also uses a poetic form of emphasis in terms of the style of its
narrative, with each repetition of actions serving as a stanza for the film, which unfolds in the form
of a poem.
The visual form of the narrative is

The Events Of The 1942 Bataan Death Essay
The events of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March reflect the Japanese views on surrender and

1942 Philippines Bataan Death March. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– December 8, 1941
– Joseph Daniels, Pvt. U.S. Marine Corp It was a bright, sunny morning in the Philippines. I woke to
the sound of birds chirping and the quiet chatter of my fellow soldiers who had begun to prepare for
the long day ahead of us. I rubbed my groggy eyes, attempting to relieve the constant effects of
insomnia and to force myself to get moving. Sleep for a soldier was a highly revered pleasure, but
when it came, it didn't come in abundant amounts and it often left us feeling even more tired than
we were before. Nevertheless, I had a country to defend and duties to fulfill. This was one of the
many sacrifices of an American soldier – a position which I served with absolute honor and pride. I
laced up my combat boots and made my way out of the tent to greet the other soldiers at camp. After
a typical, bland breakfast of oats and mystery meat, we spent the morning cleaning up camp and
organizing ourselves for the long journey

It was not until the 1890s that women were allowed access to training in most fields of study,
including psychology. Since that time many have made significant theoretical contributions to the
field of psychology and our understanding of psychodynamic thought including the works of Karen
Horney (1885–1952). She was a psychoanalyst best known for her work on neurosis and coping
techniques. Horney was a leading figure in the development of a range of non–orthodox
psychoanalytic approaches in mid–twentieth–century America. Often compared to orthodox

Horney also followed much of Freud's theory, though she disagreed with his views on female
psychology. She declared that his theory of penis envy was inaccurate and demeaning to women. In
contrast, she proposed a theory of womb envy, which men experience "feelings of inferiority
because they cannot give birth to children." (Horney 1942). At the International Congress held in
Berlin in 1922, Horney issued her first challenge to Freudian theory "The Genesis of the Castration
Complex in Women." In her writings she urged against Freud's theory of penis envy that, "what
women chiefly envy is male privilege and what they need is greater opportunity to develop their
human capacities." (Horney, 1942). This speech was the catalyst in the growing gap between
Horney's developing personality theory and orthodox Freudian psychoanalysis. Freud began to
defend his theories more actively against Horney's criticisms as reflected, for example, in "Some
Psychical Consequences of the Anatomical Distinction Between the Sexes" (1925) and "Female
Sexuality" (1931). Horney began to expand her criticisms of psychoanalysis, accusing orthodox
practitioners of being male centered and overly concerned

The European Theater Of World War II
In the European theater of World War II, 1942 marked the dominance of the Axis powers. German
forces in the Soviet Union had reached Stalingrad and threatened the oil fields of the Caucasus; Axis
forces in Africa seemed on the verge of pushing the British out of Egypt; and German U–boat wolf
packs preyed on Allied shipping with relative impunity [1]. Late in 1942, however, two significant
Allied successes served to turn the tide against the Axis powers. At El Alamein, a British offensive
defeated General Erwin Rommel's Afrika Korps, while almost simultaneously a huge Anglo–

Both the Axis and Allies saw overseas French forces as the decisive advantage that would allow
them to achieve their differing objectives in the Mediterranean.
In North Africa, General Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and his Afrika Korps, allied with the weak
Italian army, had pushed the British eastward into capturing the Western Desert area of Libya and
Alexandria, Egypt [9]. The British Eighth Army was still a viable force in Egypt, but had been on
the defensive for some time and would not regain the initiative until late 1942, with the British
victory at El Alamein, immediately prior to the Torch landings [9].
Strategic negotiations between U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister
Winston Churchill led to an agreement to send American troops to North Africa in late 1942 to
strengthen British interests in the Mediterranean, and open a second front to take pressure off Russia
on the Eastern Front. In return, the British would further American plans to defeat Hitler in Europe
by supporting a major cross–Channel attack [4].
Inception of Operation Torch: In 1942, having been persuaded of the impracticality of launching an
invasion of France as a second front, American commanders agreed to conduct landings in
northwest Africa with the goal of clearing the continent of Axis troops and preparing the way for a

Doolittle Raid Research Paper
In 1942, airstrikes from the United States would invade the Japanese homeland, and the Japanese
people would cheer on the Americans. The Japanese and the Americans were enemies due to Japan
bombing Pearl Harbor. Japan was confused and thought the American aircrafts were Japan's
aircrafts. The American aircrafts were about to bomb Japan, which would lead to a morale boost for
America during World War II. Rocket from the Tombs was known to have a crazy existence, and
would soon divide and members would form a new band called Pere Ubu. Pere Ubu wrote a song
about this revengeful event. "The Doolittle Raid" was an event that boosted morale in World War II.

When I write I shake off all my cares. But will I ever be able to write something great?" wrote Anne
Frank. Anne received a red and white checkered diary from her mom and dad on her 13th birthday.
Little did she know what she wrote in it would change the way people thought of her and looked at
the world.
Anne was 13 when she went into hiding. There were many reasons why. One of the main reasons
was Margot ( Anne sister) got a deportation notice for a labor camp. They left almost immediately
the next day. Some more reasons are because Jews were being rounded up for camps. The Nazis
were also invading Germany. They had planned to go to the Netherlands but it was too late it was
invaded. They could have gone to America but they were denied.

Battle Of The Coral Sea Essay
May 1942,
We are currently fighting the Japanese at the Coral Sea; everyone is fighting as hard as they can to
live. Here in the jungle I can hear the gun fire coming at us and hitting our boat. I saw one of my
mates get shot in the arm and then his face while he was on the floor, I felt terrible because I
couldn't help him. Although we kept on moving forward trying to defeat the Japanese in this
atrocious war. In the end they managed to sink a few of our ships and take on our army to defeat us.
June 1942,
Now that the battle of the Coral Sea is over, we finally arrived at Kokoda and thought it was fine to
proceed through but little did we know that there were the Japanese people hiding up in the
mountains looking at us getting ready to attack. They started shooting at us, so we all took cover and
fought back in this horrid weather but unfortunately the Japanese seized control of Kokoda.

we knew at that moment, we were going to win. Our boss knew that the end was coming, very, very

Analysis Of The Poem ' Oil On Canvas, 1942 '
Lisel Mueller's "Oil on Canvas, 1942" unravels the mysteries contained in Paul Delvaux's The
Village of the Mermaids. While Delvaux's painting merely conceptualizes the desired image,
Mueller's poem delves deeper into the analysis of the motives of the characters and the purpose of
the setting. Further, Mueller provides an enlightening interpretation that readers may have not
recognized by just glancing at Delvauz's painting. In Paul Delvaux's The Village of the Mermaids,
the painting as a whole exudes a tone of mystery and tragedy. The title itself presents that the focus
of the work is the mermaids in the far distance. But even though the mermaids are meant to be the
focus, the sitting women seem to first capture the viewers' attention. The women are clothed in dark
hues covering everything, but their hands and faces, allowing viewers to observe their identical
emotionless faces. Far away, there is a single man walking away. The women are the main focus of
the painting, but the man in the distance still appears in the center. Although the motives of the
characters are unknown in Devlaux's painting, the roles of the characters are revealed in Mueller's
poem. The first and last stanza of the poem emphasizes on who the man in black is. The poem
begins with "Who is that man in black, walking away from us into the distance?" The author
immediately brings focus to the man in the distance, while Devlaux merely overlooks him. Although
the man in black receives less attention,

Infamous serial killer, John Wayne Gacy, was born on March 17, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Gacy,
born into an abusive environment, was assaulted physically along with his siblings, with a razor
strap if they were perceived to have misbehaved by their alcoholic father. In addition, Gacy's mother
was physically abused as well throughout her marriage and during the children's upbringing. During
John Wayne Gacy's childhood education, he suffered further alienation due to a congenital heart
condition that resulted in further feelings of contempt from his father. Furthermore, Gacy eventually

over his sexuality. John Wayne Gacy was married and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A police search of Gacy's house in Des Plaines, Illinois, on December 21, exposed evidence of his
involvement in numerous abominable acts, including murder. John Wayne Gacy, it would later be
determined, had murdered thirty–three boys and young males, the majority of whom had been
buried under his dwelling and garage, while around four to five other victims would be recovered
from the nearby Des Plaines River. The victims were lured to Gacy's dwelling with the promise of
construction work, and then captured, sexually assaulted, and then eventually strangled to death with
rope. Furthermore, John Wayne Gacy sometimes dressed as his alter ego "Pogo the Clown", when
he murdered.
After a short jury deliberation, John Wayne Gacy was ultimately found guilty of committing thirty–
three murders and became known as one of the most vicious serial killers in U.S. history. Gacy was
sentenced to serve twenty–one natural life sentences and serve twelve death sentences. For almost a
decade and a half, Gacy was imprisoned at the Menard Correctional Center where he appealed the
sentence and offered contradictory statements on the murders in interviews. Although Gacy had

The Internment Of Japanese Americans
The internment of Japanese Americans is an example of how one historical event can influence the
start of another. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor created fear throughout the nation. Newspaper
articles depicted Americans of Japanese descent as untrustworthy and a danger to the nation. They
warned that Japanese Americans were serving as spies for their mother country. As hysteria grew,
eventually all persons of Japanese descent living on the West Coast, including those born in the
United States, were forced into internment camps from the spring of 1942 till 1946. Japanese
Americans were separated from their families, robbed of their livelihood, and denied their human
rights. It took the United States government nearly 50 years to apologize for their wrongdoing and
provided the surviving internees with reparations for the hardships they faced. Context &
Chronology The Japanese attack on the U.S. Naval fleet at Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941
sparked an up rise in the anti–Japanese sentiment throughout the West Coast; however, hostility
towards Japanese American was common in this area nearly 40 years before the attack ("Personal
Justice Denied" 4). Citizens and state leaders of California were strongly against accepting the
Japanese. In 1905 the anti–Japanese movement began making waves in California. On February 23,
1905, the San Francisco Chronicle issued on article with the headline: "The Japanese Invasion: The

Developing Competitive Advantage Advantages And Disadvantages
F. Developing Competitive Advantages (refer to Exhibit 4.7) As previously stated, it is difficult to
pinpoint a competitive advantage due to of the hyper competitive environment. Our strengths of the
program are matched or exceeded by competitors. The areas we could potentially capitalize on are
our academic rigor, our passionate staff in Southeast Online and the nursing department who
provide excellent customer service, and the prevalence of nursing courses being taught by tenure
track faculty. However, we aren't the only program that has passionate staff, that teaches using
tenured faculty, and are academically rigorous. The only way to provide leverage is if we are able to
be the best in one of these area's compared to our top regional competitors due to of the preference
to attend within 100 miles from home. With all of our weaknesses and strengths identified, and
considering that our students ranked helpfulness of staff higher than quality of the program,
customer intimacy is our best chance of differentiating ourselves. There are multiple weaknesses
that can be converted into strengths, however the ability to do that will take a substantial amount of
time due to the culture. For example, time from application to enrollment. When a student applies to
the university, we can't accept them until we have received all of their transcripts. Students are
admitted and sent a notification to wait until the Registrar's Office completes their transcript review

Analysis Of The Movie ' Voyager '
Introduction. Now, Voyager is a 1942 melodramatic movie starring Bette Davis as Charlotte Vale, a
depressed, overweight Bostonian spinster who transforms into a confident, independent woman.
Charlotte has been dominated and repressed all of her life by her mother, Mrs. Henry Vale (Gladys
Cooper). Eventually, Charlotte 's depression reaches a breaking point, and a nervous breakdown
ensues. Renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Jaquith (Claude Rains), takes Charlotte to his sanitarium for
treatment. After Charlotte's mental health improves, she takes an ocean voyage, where she falls in
love with a married man, Jerry Durrant (Paul Henread). When Charlotte returns home, her mother
still continues to bully her. Mother accidently dies of a heart attack and Charlotte blames herself. To
cope with this tragedy, Charlotte travels to Dr. Jacquith's sanitarium where she discovers Jerry 's
neurotic, mother–dominated daughter, Tina (Janis Wilson). Charlotte decides to become a second–
mother to Tina. By the end of the movie, Charlotte blooms into a more confident and independent
woman (Wallis & Rapper, 1942). The movie was based on a novel of the same name by Olive
Higgins Pouty. She borrowed the title from Walt Whitman 's 1892 poem, "Leaves of Grass" under
the sub section of "Untold Wants". The movie was directed by Irving Rapper and was nominated for
three Academy Awards, but only won for Best Score (TCMDb, 2005, 2010). In 2007, Now, Voyager

Christmas Address Of 1942 Analysis
The Shoah is a Hebrew word for catastrophe and is now considered by all Jewish and non–Jewish
people a disaster that shaped history. During World War II, the massacre of six million Jews took
place in Germany as the dominant powers of Nazism began spreading across Europe. It was a period
of time where many people questioned the 'Mystery of God' and found themselves losing faith in the
Church. The Catholic Church's response to this crisis was considered by many incompetent and
controversial.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer remained faithful to God throughout the Shoah and believed that his faith in
God directed him to take part in a conspiracy with the motive to remove Hitler from power and later
assassinate him. He did not blame God for the Shoah and instead stated, "He is weak and powerless

Events with great similarity to the Shoah, Nazis and Jewish people are specified without direct

vow to the hundreds of thousands of persons who, without any fault on their part, sometimes only
because of nationality or race, have been consigned to death or slow decline."(Pope Pius XII, 1942).
23 years later the Nostra Aetate was proclaimed by Pope Paul VI on October 28, 1965. The Nostra
Aetate instilled the same message inferred in the Christmas address in a more direct and upfront
tone. It stated its message and directly mentioned words such as Jews, as there was no risk of
persecution. The Nostra Aetate states "Although the Church is the new people of God, the Jews
should not be presented as rejected or accursed by God..." The transformation from one text to the
next demonstrated the different time periods and made clear the Church finally accepting Jewish

Hideki Tojo's 1942 speech paints an extremely clear portrait of the relationship between the Imperial
Japanese State and the concept of Total War. As a result, significant insight about the domestic
situation in wartime Japan can be drawn from the content of Tojo's words. As a result, this essay
asserts that given the content of Tojo's speech and the immediate historical context of the

was one of complete devotion. To support this assertion, this essay will first define the concept of
Total War, as there is significant literary discourse surrounding the conditions that constitute a Total

A Change of Tides in America's Greatest War
"Midway thrust the warlords back on their heels, caused their ambitious plans..........to be canceled,

States Navy's official historian of World War II, on the Battle of Midway in June 1942. The danger
of Japanese power in the Pacific lingered over the heads of the Americans and endangered the safety
of their homeland in the years from 1903 to 1942. That power lasted until the Japanese made the
mistake of attacking the island of Midway in the second great carrier battle of the war. At 4:30 in the

Yamamoto had a complex invasion plan that included a second operation against the Aleutian
Islands near Alaska, however, because of the damages sustained at the Battle of Coral Sea, his
Carrier Strike Force consisted of only four aircraft carriers defended by only a handful of cruisers
and destroyers ("HIGH NOON ON THE HIGH SEAS"). Even with the depleted fleet, the Japanese
remained confident that the upcoming battle would be a swift victory for their advancement into the
Pacific. Little did the Japanese know that U.S Intelligence was hard at work gathering intel to thwart
an offensive on Midway.
The U.S. knew absolutely everything, with skillful work in radio communication and codebreaking,
they were able to find out, in detail, when the attack would begin, where it would be, and how they
would go about it ("Battle of Midway 4–7 June 1942"). After absorbing the information, Admiral

His plan required three naval task forces to be set up. Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey was the

Chinese Women 1800 To 1942
Speaking about Chinese women between the period of 1800 to 1942, family and sexuality of women
were closely connected terminologies no matter before or after freeing women from households.
However, compare to after, the moral punishment on women were much more strict and harsh if
women violated rules on sexuality in before.
In traditional Chinese perspective, giving births to offspring for a man's family was the main
function of a woman's sexuality. Also, woman's sexuality was safer under the protection of staying
with the family. Woman was vulnerable and did not have ability to resist if there's any man tried to
abuse her. In such manner, women were asked to stay inside of the household neither stepping out of
the household nor met the guests in the living room, because women were considered as their
husbands' personal property. In addition, there were many single men who could not find a wife
called bare sticks, and they were regarded as extremely dangerous people for women, because they
would sexually abuse women if there were any chance.

How Did Walt Disney Use Propaganda
During World War II, political cartoons were widely used as propaganda techniques and persuasive
tactics. In America, political cartoons were merely used to mobilize populations for war, form hatred
for the enemies and win support of American people and allied forces. The U.S government looked
to Walt Disney as the leading studio to do just the job. Disney's propaganda included Mickey
Mouse, Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny, Pluto and more. Through Disney's involvement in production of
propaganda films there was an increase of support of the war. It was an accomplishment that made a
huge benefit to the U.S government. On December 7 1941, Japan has attacked the U.S naval base in

believing that American naval air would never be a worthy opponent. 2 pg. 359
Once success is tasted, the possibility of failure becomes less believable. The Japanese were able to
move so swiftly in the Pacific in the first 6 months of war that they seemingly believed that they
could continue uncontested indefinitely. Once again, as in their early victories in the Russo–
Japanese War over three decades earlier, Japan possessed in the stronger hand at the outset of
conflict, because they were the initiators the conflict and had the capability to plan for all of the
moves they would make at the outset. Their opponents in both wars were initially left with no choice
but to only be able to react to Japanese attacks, and in only limited fashion were the opponents able
to turn the tables and force the Japanese to react. An example of being able to 'turn the tables' was
the April 1942 Doolittle raid, which forced the Japanese to change their operational plan to one of
requiring the destruction of the U.S. carrier fleet. The fact

Analysis Of The Book ' Stalingrad ' The Fateful Siege...
Stalingrad: The Fateful Siege 1942–1943 is book written by the British military historian, Antony
Beevor. Stalingrad covers the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. Stalingrad was a city in
Russia where Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union fought for control. This was part of Adolf Hitler's
plan to crush the Soviet Union and extend his Third Reich into Russian territory. The battle lasted
from August 1942 to February 1943. However, the battle ended up with the destruction of the entire
German 6th army and with a victory for the Soviet Union. Beevor has won three awards for this
book. I wish to give brief summaries of the five sections of the book and give reviews on their main
content.
The book is broken into five sections. The first section tells the beginning of Operation Barbarossa.
This was the German codename for the invasion Russia. Although the Germans managed to capture
vast amounts of territory, the Soviet military was able to halt the German advance. To regain the
momentum, Hitler decides to proceed with the capture of Stalingrad. In addition to gaining access to
the fuel in the Caucasus Mountains from the capture of the city, Hitler would destroy the city that
bears the name of Soviet dictator, Joseph Stalin.
Personally, this was the hardest section of the book to get through. The majority of content from this
section described events that were leading up to Stalingrad. There were stories on how the higher
ups of the German and Soviet governments responded to

Operation Determination Camp

  • 1. Operation Determination Camp In early autumn of 1941, Heinrich Himmler, the Reich leader of the SS and chief of German police, instructs SS General Odilo Globocnik to carry out the mass extermination of the Jewish population in the General Government. The General Government area was the German–occupied Poland not directly annexed into Germany. Himmler's plan became known as Operation Reinhard and it consisted of the construction of three mass killing camps – Belzec, Sobibor and Treblinka. Belzec became the first extermination camp to become operational during World War II. Construction of Belzec began on November 1, 1941 under the direction of SS and police personnel. Polish civilian workers built the killing center outside of Belzec, which is located in southeast Poland. The camp was very close in distance to a major rail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rudolf Reder, one of two survivors from Belzec, describes the thoughts of the Jews as they entered Belzec. "We went on and nobody spoke–completely apathetic and silent. We knew that we were being taken to our deaths and that we couldn't do anything about it." During the period between the months of March and June of 1942, Belec had eliminated 85,000 Jews. Reder describes what the SS men did with anyone who could not walk on their own. "The sick, the old, and small children were thrown onto stretchers and taken to pits. There they were made to sit on the edge, while Irrmann– one of the Gestapo–shot them and pushed their bodies into the pit with a rifle–butt." When every able–bodied Jew had arrived at Belzec, they were assembled in a big group and the German commander gave a speech. Reder remembers what Fritz Irrmann had said to the crowd. "You are going to take a bath now. Afterwards, you will be sent to work." The objective of this speech was to convince the Jews that Belzec was really a labor camp, but in reality, it was not what the Jews had hoped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing The Battle Of Stalingrad And Animal Farm Battle of Stalingrad and Animal Farm Even though in the book Animal Farm written by George Orwell doesnt tell the readers how all the animals end up, or if they become happy and healthy, but The Battle of Stalingrad does. The Battle of Stalingrad took place in the Soviet Union near the Volga River between July 17, 1942 and February 2, 1943. The Soviet Union army at the battle of Stalingrad consisted of 1,000,500 men, 13,541 artillery guns, 894 tanks, and 1115 planes. The German military consisted of 1,011,500 men, 10,290 artillery guns, 675 tanks, and 1216 planes. The German military (Nazi) bombed Stalingrad on June 22, 1942 in hopes to gain more power and eventually be a dictator over all of the world. The Battle of Stalingrad is said to be the biggest turning point for all of Germany and The Soviet Union during World War 2. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the battle consisted of capturing a lot of the other military and torchering them and or killing them. By the end of the battle about 11,600 Germans were captured in that seven month period and only about 600 were said to be alive. Since Germany did not win this battle and surrendered on February 2, 1942, the general over the army Friedrich von Paulus was stripped from his position as being general by Adolf Hitler. The battle came to a close when the Soviet Union military surrounded the German military and forced them to surrender. The German army thought of getting more power by bombing Russia just like the animals in Animal Farm written by George Orwell thought, "He could somehow take advantage of Mr. Jones misfortune." The German army as a whole didn't want the land, but they wanted more power just like Napoleon.

  • 6. Australia's Changing relations during the second world war... At the outbreak of the Second World War, Australia as a nation was still very closely tied to the British. Therefore when war was finally declared after a period of appeasement, Australia's Prime Minister Robert Menzies of the United Australia Party, made his famous Melancholy Duty speech, committing Australia to the war effort. However as the war waged on, and when Winston Churchill's promised support was most needed, they weren't there. It was America that showed up to help save our proud nation, leading to disillusionment in Britain's supposed benevolent power and a turn to the USA for help. The change in Britain political and social influence in Australia during World War 2 was drastic and of extreme significance in shaping our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Curtin stood up to Churchill and demanded in the politest possible way to have our troops returned in order to defend Australia (23rd February 1942) and the English Prime Minister eventually conceded but it was too late. Our faith in the British had been shattered. Although Australia's relationship with the British was weakened as the result of actions during WW2 our relationship with the USA was the reciprocal; this period resulted in a strengthening of ties with the Americans. A few key events were pivotal in this change. The first of these was when General Douglas MacArthur took over the defence of Australia and the Pacific Campaign in March 1942, discarding the current battle plan of holding 'The Brisbane Line'. Instead in his quote "...so I instantly changed the conception (The Brisbane Line) with the basic thought that the 'battle of Australia' would be settled in the little islands to the north, north–east and north–west. I would make my fight there – win, lose or draw" explains that the battles, in which the fate of Australia would be decided, were to occur in the Philippines. The major event resulting in the USA becoming such a prominent figure relationship–wise to Australia is what is known as the Battle of the Coral Sea. In May 1942 Japan's naval force tried to take Port Moresby, the last line of defence before Australia itself. The topic for the short story must relate to life on either side of the Berlin Wall between 1942–1989 It was the end of 1941 and a family of four, soon to be five that lived on the west part of Berlin was oblivious to what was to come. There was the Mother and Father of the family whose names were Emma and Harald. Harald was in the military and was currently battling in World War II, however, Emma was a stay at home mom and was carrying their fifth child which would be a little boy named Markos. Erwin was the oldest of the three children. He had just turned 19 and his mother finally agreed to letting him go into the military just as his father did. Hannah his little sister on the other hand was not okay with her big brother going away to put his life in jeopardy. She and her big brother were very close, Erwin was the one who took care of his mother and sister while his father was away at war. Now Hannah and her mother were about to experience both men being away, which will impact them tremendously. Living in East Berlin was not easy and those that did not live there knew that, the ones that lived there knew for sure that it was unappealing. Hannah the middle child had been living in poverty since she was born and so had Erwin they both just handled it differently. • 12. William Henry Beveridge's Report 1942 William Henry Beveridge's Report 1942. There were several key points within Beveridge report, I have written below some of the key points along with my evaluation of its significances. The creation of a comprehensive social Insurance Scheme was created to cover people for loss of earnings power and social spending around births, deaths and marriages. This scheme would help cover families with extra expenses to decrease pressure on the rest of the family. If we didn't have the comprehensive social insurance scheme system in place we would not be able to receive extra funding for job seekers allowance, pensions and disability benefits. Want – Beveridge noticed that people did not have 'enough'. They didn't have enough money to live on and provide food, clothing and couldn't afford medication for themselves or their families. These people wanted to be able to have the basics to survive, but they either didn't work or were too sick to work. We now have a system that gives people a chance to claim income support and national insurance to cover these issues. Squalor – People were living in homes that were not big enough to house their families. This caused illness to spread easily. Beveridge noticed that houses to rent were more expensive in busy working areas like London then small towns and villages. Now we have council houses, shared ownership properties and housing benefits for private rented accommodation to help low income families. Properties are checked and assessed so there isn't over crowding which is better for families and more hygienic. Ignorance – In the Victorian times education was not compulsory as it is today, many children then left school at 14 years old to work and provide food and money for their families. • 16. Technicolor In Animated And Live-Action Film ( 1942 ) And... Technicolor in Animated and Live–Action Film: Bambi (1942) and Becky Sharp (1935) Colour, especially by today's audiences, is considered to be a staple in a film's mise–en–scene. It is generally thought to be an attraction today if a film does not have colour, and it influences many different readings of films. However, it was not always considered to be such an essential part of cinema. In the early days of Technicolor, specifically in the mid–30s to early 40s, colour added to the aesthetic of film. Specifically, the colour aesthetics of animated film and live–action film created different readings of their respective films. For example, colour in Bambi (1942) was used to compliment and indicate the setting and the tone and/or mood at specific points in the narrative, as well as to indicate when important events were occurring in the film. These elements of the narrative are shown through the colours of certain scenes themselves and the vibrancy of the colours. So with the help of the colours in the film, the film itself can be read as a "growing–up tale". In comparison, a live– action film, Becky Sharp (1935), colour is used in a contrasting way to emphasize certain parts of the narrative, such as specific characters or themes in the film. In this case, the help of the colours can help emphasize the main character of the film, Becky Sharp, in her journey to climb the social ranks of the nineteenth century. In animated film, especially in terms of Walt Disney's animated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The course of action eliminates any potential setbacks that may have occurred due to budget cuts. This COA also follows President Trumps wish to continue with growing our military and increase defense spending considering it is a $2.4 billion increase from last fiscal year. Disadvantages: The Department of Defense will fail to fulfill the presidential memorandum and continue to use the current amount of funds. Programs and positions that are redundant or unneeded will continue spending government funds that would otherwise not be spent. Alternative Two: Branch Cuts Scope: Implement a 15% cut to each branch of the military. This will be an aggressive yet necessary cut in order to meet the requirements of our presidential memorandum. The cuts include: reduce Army budget from $148 billion to $125.8 billion, reduce Navy budget from $164.9 billion to $140.165 billion, reduce Air Force budget from $166.9 billion to $141.865 billion, and reduce the defense– wide budget from $102.9 billion to $87.465 billion. This will result in the $87.404 billion cut needed to achieve our budget goals. Cost: By evoking these measures, the Department of Defense will save 87.404 billion dollars which is slightly more than the necessary 87.4 billion in cuts that the presidential memorandum calls for. ... Grapes Of Wrath: Character Analysis And Summary In this section of the novel, Kathy observes that the veteran couples in the cottages mimic behaviour that they have seen on television programmes. Kathy then notices a change in the behaviour of Ruth, she too begins to display behavioural traits picked up from TV and the veterans. These traits confuse Tommy at first, when Ruth hits his arm he "[turns] abruptly to Ruth and [goes] 'what?'" to which Ruth glares furiously, showing how they differ in personality (Ruth tries desperately to fit in, Tommy does not). Kathy, who is particularly irritable on that day as Ruth has blurted out the entire plot of the book Kathy was trying to read, confronts Ruth about how she hits Tommy's arm when they say goodbye. Ruth claims not to know what Kathy is talking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of moving on is presented in this section by Ruth who suggests how the students of Hailsham are gradually growing up and moving on from their Hailsham days, except from Kathy. This brings us on to another theme which is the idea of friendship and relationships; Kathy and Ruth begin to fight when Kathy mentions odd mannerisms in Ruth and Tommy's relationship, such as the way she slaps his elbow when saying goodbye. Whilst arguing, we see that Ruth and Kathy's friendship has become more distant that previously at Hailsham, as Ruth and Kathy do not get on as well as they used to and have more disagreements. One explanation for this could be the fact that Ruth seems to alter her personality and behaviour in order to fit in and attempt to be popular, this is shown by the fact that she mimics the veterans at the cottages. Ruth's mimicking may also be explained by the clones' lack of proper adult role models when growing up; the clones form behavioural habits and learn how to act from copying characters in television programmes and students older than them. This suggests to us the theme of family, or rather lack of it in the clones' case, and how we learn from our parents and relatives around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Photos of Japanese American Children in Internment Camps, 1942–1945 Amid a growing anti– Japanese sentiment during World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 on February 19, 1942, which called for the evacuation of all persons of Japanese descent from the West Coast. Many individuals and families evacuated to assembly centers and eventually internment camps in ten inland locations across the country. Among the more than 100,000 people of Japanese ancestry interned, many of those were children, and most of these children were American citizens. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These photos reveal the unconscious biases of the individual photographers that are simply represented by the choice of subject matter in each photo or what a photographer decided to omit. Another level of bias that must be considered is that of the evacuees themselves. It is not known how many activities, if any, were staged for the camera but one can presume some self– consciousness on the part of adults who were in charge of the children so that they would be presented in a positive way. Photographs of children playing reveal how the WRA wanted interned Japanese American children to appear carefree and wanted their lives in the camps to seem normal. Photos from all ten camps show boys and girls involved in a variety of American activities: playing games, sports, and playing with pets. One series of photos depicts a group of smiling boys and girls huddled around a table playing the card game Black Jack.[3] Other photos show children engaged in group–sports like volleyball, softball, and running races. All of these photos reveal smiling, outwardly happy children with no mention of their forced confinement. • 24. Separation Exists Between Society And The Penal System Separation exists between society and the penal system, and due to this, there is a grave lack of knowledge of what is happening behind bars and how we can improve the situation we have currently in regards to the prison system. There are major flaws that exist within the penal system, and Angela Davis highlighted the main one of secrecy. We know based off of research that our prison population commonly consists of individuals who struggle academically (Petersilia, 2003, pg 32). Because of this lack of a strong education, they may not possess basic skills like reading, with about 20 % performing at an illiterate level within state facilities (Petersilia, 2003, pg 32), which prisons are not going around glorifying. Another sort of hidden and degrading factor that Davis does not directly mention is the use of solitary confinement. We learned from Maggie's presentation the harmful mental health effects on those whom are placed in solitary confinement (December 1, presentations). While in solitary confinement, inmates are hidden away in "a place of punishment within a place of punishment" (Conover, 2001, pg 126), while being degraded with neither little to no time outside, nor any human interaction (Conover, 2001, pg 127). It's disturbing that it was not intended as a form of punishment, yet is used as one now (October 22, film). During the History of Prisons film we watched, they explained the use of solitary confinement for reflection purposes (October 22, film). There has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Narrative Structure Of The Afternoon ( 1942 ) The narrative structure in Meshes of the Afternoon (1942) is unique in that it uses abstract symbolism to transfer all narrative information to the audience, forcing the audience to actively engage with the narrative in order to piece together the plot and how it relates the story, if there is one being told at all. Meshes is told with distinctive narrative structure that relies on different interpretations for one to understand the purpose it serves as a work of cinema. The purpose of Meshes can be seen to represent, embody, or exemplify possible ways of seeing and being in the world itself. The artisanal and avant–garde style of Meshes, with its unclear chronological sequencing coupled with its overt referencing to a dream state, serves to explore the way in which director Maya Deren felt about her world, one she allowed us to peer into through the lens of her camera. Meshes also relies on its aesthetics as its primary form of language, with symbolic communication contributing to its poetic form. Meshes also largely employs an expressive form of emphasis through its use of mis–en–scene, as the entire film can be seen as the subconscious expression of Maya Deren's thoughts of her life, specifically of her relationship with her husband Alexander Hammid. Meshes also uses a poetic form of emphasis in terms of the style of its narrative, with each repetition of actions serving as a stanza for the film, which unfolds in the form of a poem. The visual form of the narrative is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Events Of The 1942 Bataan Death Essay The events of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March reflect the Japanese views on surrender and explain the reason why a mass execution followed their enemy 's surrender. Japan 's forced, unconditional surrender to end World War II demonstrates the beginning of a Japanese cultural evolution. The following excerpts from an uncovered journal written by Joseph Daniels, an American soldier stationed in the Philippines, document a survivor's perspective on the events of the 1942 Philippines Bataan Death March. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– December 8, 1941 – Joseph Daniels, Pvt. U.S. Marine Corp It was a bright, sunny morning in the Philippines. I woke to the sound of birds chirping and the quiet chatter of my fellow soldiers who had begun to prepare for the long day ahead of us. I rubbed my groggy eyes, attempting to relieve the constant effects of insomnia and to force myself to get moving. Sleep for a soldier was a highly revered pleasure, but when it came, it didn't come in abundant amounts and it often left us feeling even more tired than we were before. Nevertheless, I had a country to defend and duties to fulfill. This was one of the many sacrifices of an American soldier – a position which I served with absolute honor and pride. I laced up my combat boots and made my way out of the tent to greet the other soldiers at camp. After a typical, bland breakfast of oats and mystery meat, we spent the morning cleaning up camp and organizing ourselves for the long journey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ludwig PSY/310 September 11, 2011 Dr. Matt Pearcey Women in Psychology Paper It was not until the 1890s that women were allowed access to training in most fields of study, including psychology. Since that time many have made significant theoretical contributions to the field of psychology and our understanding of psychodynamic thought including the works of Karen Horney (1885–1952). She was a psychoanalyst best known for her work on neurosis and coping techniques. Horney was a leading figure in the development of a range of non–orthodox psychoanalytic approaches in mid–twentieth–century America. Often compared to orthodox Freudians, she emphasized interpersonal relations and minimized the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Horney also followed much of Freud's theory, though she disagreed with his views on female psychology. She declared that his theory of penis envy was inaccurate and demeaning to women. In contrast, she proposed a theory of womb envy, which men experience "feelings of inferiority because they cannot give birth to children." (Horney 1942). At the International Congress held in Berlin in 1922, Horney issued her first challenge to Freudian theory "The Genesis of the Castration Complex in Women." In her writings she urged against Freud's theory of penis envy that, "what women chiefly envy is male privilege and what they need is greater opportunity to develop their human capacities." (Horney, 1942). This speech was the catalyst in the growing gap between Horney's developing personality theory and orthodox Freudian psychoanalysis. Freud began to defend his theories more actively against Horney's criticisms as reflected, for example, in "Some Psychical Consequences of the Anatomical Distinction Between the Sexes" (1925) and "Female Sexuality" (1931). Horney began to expand her criticisms of psychoanalysis, accusing orthodox practitioners of being male centered and overly concerned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

German forces in the Soviet Union had reached Stalingrad and threatened the oil fields of the Caucasus; Axis forces in Africa seemed on the verge of pushing the British out of Egypt; and German U–boat wolf packs preyed on Allied shipping with relative impunity [1]. Late in 1942, however, two significant Allied successes served to turn the tide against the Axis powers. Both the Axis and Allies saw overseas French forces as the decisive advantage that would allow them to achieve their differing objectives in the Mediterranean. In North Africa, General Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and his Afrika Korps, allied with the weak Italian army, had pushed the British eastward into capturing the Western Desert area of Libya and Alexandria, Egypt [9]. The British Eighth Army was still a viable force in Egypt, but had been on the defensive for some time and would not regain the initiative until late 1942, with the British victory at El Alamein, immediately prior to the Torch landings [9]. Strategic negotiations between U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill led to an agreement to send American troops to North Africa in late 1942 to strengthen British interests in the Mediterranean, and open a second front to take pressure off Russia on the Eastern Front. In return, the British would further American plans to defeat Hitler in Europe by supporting a major cross–Channel attack [4]. Inception of Operation Torch: In 1942, having been persuaded of the impracticality of launching an invasion of France as a second front, American commanders agreed to conduct landings in northwest Africa with the goal of clearing the continent of Axis troops and preparing the way for a future attack on southern Europe. While Delvaux's painting merely conceptualizes the desired image, Mueller's poem delves deeper into the analysis of the motives of the characters and the purpose of the setting. Further, Mueller provides an enlightening interpretation that readers may have not recognized by just glancing at Delvauz's painting. In Paul Delvaux's The Village of the Mermaids, the painting as a whole exudes a tone of mystery and tragedy. The title itself presents that the focus of the work is the mermaids in the far distance. But even though the mermaids are meant to be the focus, the sitting women seem to first capture the viewers' attention. The women are clothed in dark hues covering everything, but their hands and faces, allowing viewers to observe their identical emotionless faces. Far away, there is a single man walking away. The women are the main focus of the painting, but the man in the distance still appears in the center. Although the motives of the characters are unknown in Devlaux's painting, the roles of the characters are revealed in Mueller's poem. The first and last stanza of the poem emphasizes on who the man in black is. The poem begins with "Who is that man in black, walking away from us into the distance?" The author immediately brings focus to the man in the distance, while Devlaux merely overlooks him. Although the man in black receives less attention, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor created fear throughout the nation. Newspaper articles depicted Americans of Japanese descent as untrustworthy and a danger to the nation. They warned that Japanese Americans were serving as spies for their mother country. As hysteria grew, eventually all persons of Japanese descent living on the West Coast, including those born in the United States, were forced into internment camps from the spring of 1942 till 1946. Japanese Americans were separated from their families, robbed of their livelihood, and denied their human rights. It took the United States government nearly 50 years to apologize for their wrongdoing and provided the surviving internees with reparations for the hardships they faced. Context & Chronology The Japanese attack on the U.S. Naval fleet at Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941 sparked an up rise in the anti–Japanese sentiment throughout the West Coast; however, hostility towards Japanese American was common in this area nearly 40 years before the attack ("Personal Justice Denied" 4). Developing Competitive Advantages (refer to Exhibit 4.7) As previously stated, it is difficult to pinpoint a competitive advantage due to of the hyper competitive environment. Our strengths of the program are matched or exceeded by competitors. The areas we could potentially capitalize on are our academic rigor, our passionate staff in Southeast Online and the nursing department who provide excellent customer service, and the prevalence of nursing courses being taught by tenure track faculty. However, we aren't the only program that has passionate staff, that teaches using tenured faculty, and are academically rigorous. The only way to provide leverage is if we are able to be the best in one of these area's compared to our top regional competitors due to of the preference to attend within 100 miles from home. With all of our weaknesses and strengths identified, and considering that our students ranked helpfulness of staff higher than quality of the program, customer intimacy is our best chance of differentiating ourselves. There are multiple weaknesses that can be converted into strengths, however the ability to do that will take a substantial amount of time due to the culture. During World War II, the massacre of six million Jews took place in Germany as the dominant powers of Nazism began spreading across Europe. It was a period of time where many people questioned the 'Mystery of God' and found themselves losing faith in the Church. The Catholic Church's response to this crisis was considered by many incompetent and controversial. Dietrich Bonhoeffer remained faithful to God throughout the Shoah and believed that his faith in God directed him to take part in a conspiracy with the motive to remove Hitler from power and later assassinate him. A Change of Tides in America's Greatest War "Midway thrust the warlords back on their heels, caused their ambitious plans..........to be canceled, and forced on them an unexpected, unwelcome, defensive role". –Samuel Elliot Morison, the United States Navy's official historian of World War II, on the Battle of Midway in June 1942. The danger of Japanese power in the Pacific lingered over the heads of the Americans and endangered the safety of their homeland in the years from 1903 to 1942. That power lasted until the Japanese made the mistake of attacking the island of Midway in the second great carrier battle of the war. At 4:30 in the morning on June 4, 1942, the Japanese attacked the U.S. naval base at Midway in an attempt to destroy their aircraft carriers that escaped Pearl ... Yamamoto had a complex invasion plan that included a second operation against the Aleutian Islands near Alaska, however, because of the damages sustained at the Battle of Coral Sea, his Carrier Strike Force consisted of only four aircraft carriers defended by only a handful of cruisers and destroyers ("HIGH NOON ON THE HIGH SEAS"). Even with the depleted fleet, the Japanese remained confident that the upcoming battle would be a swift victory for their advancement into the Pacific. Little did the Japanese know that U.S Intelligence was hard at work gathering intel to thwart an offensive on Midway. The U.S. knew absolutely everything, with skillful work in radio communication and codebreaking, they were able to find out, in detail, when the attack would begin, where it would be, and how they would go about it ("Battle of Midway 4–7 June 1942"). After absorbing the information, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz of the U.S. Navy, decided to take an offensive approach to the impending battle. His plan required three naval task forces to be set up. Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey was the commander of Task Force 8, or of the Enterprise aircraft carrier, Admiral Aubrey W. Fitch commanded Task Force 11, the Lexington carrier, and John Frank Fletcher was commander of Task Force 17, the Yorktown carrier. Even though they were outnumbered four carriers to ... Chinese Women 1800 To 1942 Speaking about Chinese women between the period of 1800 to 1942, family and sexuality of women were closely connected terminologies no matter before or after freeing women from households. However, compare to after, the moral punishment on women were much more strict and harsh if women violated rules on sexuality in before. In traditional Chinese perspective, giving births to offspring for a man's family was the main function of a woman's sexuality. Also, woman's sexuality was safer under the protection of staying with the family. Woman was vulnerable and did not have ability to resist if there's any man tried to abuse her. In such manner, women were asked to stay inside of the household neither stepping out of the household nor met the guests in the living room, because women were considered as their husbands' personal property. In addition, there were many single men who could not find a wife called bare sticks, and they were regarded as extremely dangerous people for women, because they would sexually abuse women if there were any chance. JAPANESE STRATEGIC FAILURES IN THE SPRING OF 1942 Essay "After successfully executing operations in the Southeast and the Southwest Pacific by the spring of 1942, what should Japan have done next?" "I can run wild for six months ... after that, I have no expectation of success." Unconfirmed quotation attributed to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander–in–Chief Japanese Combined Fleet. Setting the stage Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is believed to have foretold of the suffering that was to befall Japan, and in fact was said to have argued heavily against waking a "sleeping giant." Did Yamamoto recognize the shortcomings of Japan's war strategy even before the first shots were fired? Planners of the first strike at Pearl Harbor, including Admiral Fukodome, argue that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even in the years leading up to the war, Japan's military believed in the superiority of their technology and personnel. For instance, even when Japanese naval leaders correctly perceived the shift of carrier–based aircraft becoming the predominant offensive capability, they made the error of believing that American naval air would never be a worthy opponent. 2 pg. 359 Once success is tasted, the possibility of failure becomes less believable. The Japanese were able to move so swiftly in the Pacific in the first 6 months of war that they seemingly believed that they could continue uncontested indefinitely. Once again, as in their early victories in the Russo– Japanese War over three decades earlier, Japan possessed in the stronger hand at the outset of conflict, because they were the initiators the conflict and had the capability to plan for all of the moves they would make at the outset. Their opponents in both wars were initially left with no choice but to only be able to react to Japanese attacks, and in only limited fashion were the opponents able to turn the tables and force the Japanese to react. An example of being able to 'turn the tables' was the April 1942 Doolittle raid, which forced the Japanese to change their operational plan to one of requiring the destruction of the U.S. carrier fleet. • 78. Analysis Of The Book ' Stalingrad ' The Fateful Siege... Stalingrad: The Fateful Siege 1942–1943 is book written by the British military historian, Antony Beevor. Stalingrad covers the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. Stalingrad was a city in Russia where Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union fought for control. This was part of Adolf Hitler's plan to crush the Soviet Union and extend his Third Reich into Russian territory. The battle lasted from August 1942 to February 1943. However, the battle ended up with the destruction of the entire German 6th army and with a victory for the Soviet Union. Beevor has won three awards for this book. I wish to give brief summaries of the five sections of the book and give reviews on their main content. The book is broken into five sections. The first section tells the beginning of Operation Barbarossa. This was the German codename for the invasion Russia. Although the Germans managed to capture vast amounts of territory, the Soviet military was able to halt the German advance. To regain the momentum, Hitler decides to proceed with the capture of Stalingrad. In addition to gaining access to the fuel in the Caucasus Mountains from the capture of the city, Hitler would destroy the city that bears the name of Soviet dictator, Joseph Stalin. Personally, this was the hardest section of the book to get through. The majority of content from this section described events that were leading up to Stalingrad. There were stories on how the higher ups of the German and Soviet governments responded to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
