temperature increased by 0.85◦C.
oceans have warmed, the amount
of snow and ice have diminished
and sea level has rise.

THE STATE OF GLOBAL
PEACE
The Current Situation in Pakistan
•Pakistan’s disputes with neighboring India and Afghanistan
periodically erupt in violence.
• Domestic attacks involving disparate terrorist and insurgent
groups, and counter-offensives by Pakistan’s military, have
killed tens of thousands of Pakistanis over a decade and forced
nearly 1.5 million from their homes.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals
• Pakistan’s national income per capita has
doubled since 1990; with income poverty declining
nearly three times since 2000
• The share of Foreign Direct Investment in the
economy has fluctuated in the past 30 years; in
2013 it was back at the 1990 level
• If Pakistan is to meet the SDGs, there is
considerable scope to improve the role of
partnerships

  • 124. Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals • Pakistan’s national income per capita has doubled since 1990; with income poverty declining nearly three times since 2000 • The share of Foreign Direct Investment in the economy has fluctuated in the past 30 years; in 2013 it was back at the 1990 level • If Pakistan is to meet the SDGs, there is considerable scope to improve the role of partnerships

Editor's Notes

  1. The topic of our talk today are the sustainable development goals or SDGS. Before starting on our goals lets first take a look on what sustainable development is..
  2.  It contains within it two key concepts: · The concept of 'needs', in particular, the essential needs of the world's poor, to which overriding priority should be given; and  · The idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and social organization on the environment's ability to meet present and future needs.
  3. The UN world summit in 2005 described 3 components of SD that are interdependent & mutually reinforcing pillars: 1) economic dev 2) social dev 3) environmental protection .So These goals are like the pieces of a puzzle called sustainable development.
  4. If u want to help build a sustainable world we need …. That is why the SDGs were set
  5. In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly formally adopted the "universal, integrated and transformative" 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The goals are to be implemented and achieved in every country from the year 2016 to 2030.
  6. Goal # 1 is no poverty. The aim is to end poverty…

  10. In pakistan we can see the progress is contrasted. On one hand the number of people in extreme poverty has decreased by 52 % from 1991 till 2011 yet the average GDP growth per person has decreased by 1 %.
  11. Eradicating poverty in all its forms remains one of the greatest challenges facing humanity. While the number of people living in extreme poverty has dropped by more than half too many people are still struggling to meet the most basic human needs.
  12. The next goal is to end hunger…..(read goal)
  13. After a prolonged decline, world hunger appears to be on the rise again. Conflict, drought and disasters bring poverty which is the main cause of hunger. (don’t read the left side, only read the right side of slide)
  14. Facts and figures tell us that (read slide)
  15. The targets say that by 2030 there will be…(Read only points with arrows pointing towards them)
  16. Efforts to combat hunger and malnutrition have advanced significantly since 2000. Ending hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition for all, however, will require continued and focused efforts, especially in Asia and Africa. More investments in agriculture, including government spending and aid, are needed to increase capacity for agricultural productivity.

  37. Women and girls do more unpaid work than men even though they put in more time.
  38. Implementing new legal frameworks regarding female equality in the workplace and the eradication of harmful practices targeted at women is crucial to ending the gender-based discrimination prevalent in many countries around the world.
  39. (don’t read slide) While some forms of discrimination against women and girls are diminishing, gender inequality continues to hold women back and deprives them of basic rights and opportunities. Empowering women requires addressing structural issues such as unfair social norms and attitudes as well as developing progressive legal frameworks that promote equality between women and men.

  70. Income and wealth inequality in Pakistan is from top to bottom. Only 22 persons in the country have billions of wealth and reserves. The rest spend their life in hunger and poverty. Education and health infrastructures are on the verge of collapse. Institutions are rotten. Moral and ethical values are decaying. This portrays an intimidating picture of the country’s overall economic scenario.

  108. The inability of state institutions to reliably provide peaceful ways to resolve competing interests has encouraged groups to see violence as a legitimate alternative. The violent instability of Pakistan, the world’s sixth-most populous nation, poses a threat to regional and international security.
