The magic Behind it all
The University of Texas at El Paso holds many departments which make the school so
successful. The athletic department is lead by athletic director Bob Stull. Stull has stood behind
his desk for years since he came to the UTEP athletic program in 1998. Since Bob stull has been
here he has been called to maintain all athletic hires and fires within athletics. He overlooks all
major athletic decisions and makes sure to stay involvement in the student athlete’s day to day
life be stopping in on practices and games on a regular basis.
According to UTEP athletics Bob Stull is appreciated and has helped generate tremendous
growth in our athletic program. As a former football coach Bob stull says that he’s proud to see
all of the accomplishments that UTEP athletics have made over time. Holly Watts, the head
volleyball coach at UTEP speaks on behalf of the UTEP athletics program in a positive light as
well. Watts has been apart of the program for four years and has seen the number of fans and
donations increase constantly over the years since she has arrived. Personally Holly watts works
hard to help the volleyball team success bot on and off the court. Holly says “Its important that
my athletes realize that being in college sports is not only about the athletic part but also about
becoming a well rounded person.” UTEP athletics is especially proud of their fairly new hire
saying that she has helped the program grow and brought in impressive athletes over the last
few years.
Along with volleyballs success the UTEP men’s basketball team which is lead by Tim Floyd. Tim
Floyd speaks levels for his athletes and is constantly in the gym working one and one with his
athletes every chance he gets. Floyd is known as one of the main faces of the athletic
department due to the famous history of the Don Haskins story. This involves Coach Don
Haskins success leading Texas western’s, current day UTEP basketball team to a championship
in 1966. “Don Haskins history has brought some of the best players in the nation here to play
for me and I’m honored to work side by side with them everyday” says Floyd. UTEP is thankful
for Floyd and is glad he has done so well within the program since he joined.
As there are many coaches who are invested in the success of UTEP athletics they are not the
only ones to thank. There are thousands of donors inside and outside of El Paso who help
support our athletes every year. UTEP would not be where it is without the support of the
donors. Every year the athletic department recognizes them by having a donor’s day. On this
day athletes from each team personally sit down and make phone calls individually thanking
people for their donations to show our appreciation.
All the people surrounding the department work together day in and day out to help with the
success. The people involved in this program are at the highest sense professional and carry
2. themselves with as much as grave as possible. This program will do anything to make the
University proud and are blessed for all the support athletics has gained already.
