CARROLLTON, Oct. 16, 2014 – Publicist Brianna Edmonds, from the Sports
Department, announces that her client Deonta Stocks, fondly known by fans as “Stocks,” will
hold an “Around the World Shoot Off” event on campus in the Coliseum.
Stocks, 26, began dribbling a basketball at the young age of 3 years old with big dreams
of becoming the next Michael Jordan. His mother, Tonya Stocks, believed and supported in
his dreams by enrolling him in Lithonia’s AAU basketball team at the age of 9, where his
talents opened up new doors in basketball.
“I remember my baby never wanting to put down his basketball that his dad bought him
for Christmas,” Ms. Stocks said. “Enrolling Deonta in AAU basketball was beneficial to his
career in so many ways.”
Stocks later took his talents to Lithonia High School to be the only starting sophomore on
the varsity basketball team. Balancing basketball and academics for such a young rookie was
difficult, but Stocks maintained to keep up his grades by tutoring and study halls.

2. In the fall of 2013, Stocks joined the wolves for his first season playing colligates
basketball. He had an All-Conference caliber season, leading the GSC in scoring, averaging
21.0 points per game. In addition, he played and started in 22 games, scoring 454 points on
155-of-337 shooting, and more.
“I want to invite all of the students at West Georgia to interact with me on a shoot-off on
the court,” Stocks said. “That way they can get to know me personally on the court and I can
teach them a thing or two.”
The Carrollton Boys and Girls Club is a major sponsor of the event and will give away Dr.
Dre Beats to the lucky winner who beats Stocks during the shoot-off. The event will feature
additional prizes, t-shirts, and food.
