2. Why is PDHPE is an important key
learning area?
I feel PDHPE is an important learning area because it teaches
students to:
Understand and value themselves and others; it promotes physical
activity and it emphasises informed decision making leading to
effective and responsible actions (NSW Board of Studies, 2007)
PDHPE also teaches:
Physical, social, cognitive and emotional growth and
development; the development and maintenance of positive
interpersonal relationships; the factors influencing personal health
choices; living and learning in safe secure environment; the
adoption of an active lifestyle; fundamental movement and
coordination and the skills for better health and movement
outcomes (NSW, Board of Studies, 2007)
3. Why I feel PDHPE is important?
I feel that in this day and age those students who don’t
do any sport outside of school (e.g. soccer, cricket,
football etc) don’t get the exercise they need. I feel
that PDHPE will help them get the exercise they need
and that it encourages them to at least go outside and
play. I also believe that PDHPE will help the students
eat healthy by having Crunch and Sip (where the
students have fruit/vegetables and water in class) and
by teaching them the food pyramid.
4. The aim
My aim of PDHPE is to help students to develop the
skills, and knowledge to lead an active lifestyle. I
would also like the students to have a good attitude
and value having an active lifestyle
5. My objectives
My objectives for the class is to make sure they:
Have an appreciation and commitment to a healthy and
social way of living (NSW Board of Studies, 2007)
They make, communicate and act on healthy decisions
(NSW Board of Studies, 2007)
The students can move with competence and confidence
(NSW Board of Studies, 2007).
They form and maintain relationships that are positive
(NSW Board of Studies, 2007).
They understand ways to enhance personal health and
wellbeing (NSW Board of Studies, 2007) and
They understand the composition, performance and
appraisal of movement (NSW Board of Studies, 2007).
6. By the end of the year
Hopefully by the end of the year the students will have
achieved all or most of the objectives and have a positive
attitude to an active lifestyle.
Hopefully by the end of the year the students want to
spend less time inside on computers and iPads and outside
playing
Hopefully by the end of the year the students are eating
healthy and are trying new things
