4. Language in Britain
• The most ancient languages among the territory
were the Celtic ones, which are still possible to
be found in Welsh, Irish and Scott Gaelic.
• Latin also had some influence in the Phonetic
system.
5. The Beginning of Written English.
• Within the Germanic tribes, the first register of a
written language ware the runes. After the
arrival of Christianism runes were evolving into
letter and due to this reason the linguistic
varieties emerged.
6. The Survival of Celtic
• The Celtic language has been changing by the
influence and contact with the other languages.
Some natives of Northumbria, Mercia and
Wessex begun to leave aside Celtic dialects and
begun to adopt English as their language.
• With the expansion of their empires, English
begun to spread all over the territory.
