Thesis Statement: Natural disasters impact us all, how an individual
responds and recovers from a disaster can reduce post-traumatic
stressors.
Introduction:
While natural disasters can be catastrophic and devastating to a
community; the impact it has on people can cause a lasting
vulnerability. The short-term and long term psychological affect a
natural disaster can expose one‟s mortality and capabilities to recover.
During my research I will examine ways to lessen the impacts of a
natural disaster by mitigation and preparedness. Second, I will review
post-traumatic stress disorder and how to recognize the symptoms.
Furthermore, what an individual can do to reduce psycholical effects
and recover from a natural disaster?
For researching my topic of, “Psycholigical Effect of Natural
Disasters” I
will be using search engines such as “Google Scholar” for articles
related to Psychology, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and
natural disasters. Second, I will use the American Public University
System Library, EBSCO Database Suite (Academic Search Premier,
Environment Complete, and Health and Psychosocial Instruments).
Third, I will use JSTOR (JSTOR.org) for scholarly journals and
resources
related to my field of study. However after reviewing all three
databases, I believe that „Google Scholar” will provide the greatest
professional research needed for understanding the post-traumatic
effects after a natural disaster.

suggest that all students watch the video and understand how easy it
is to select articles based on relevancy to your topic. Secondly, it
correctly shows you how to cite articles in different writing styles

as APA, MLA and Chicago. Furthermore, this course should be the
first
course you take when starting a Bachelor‟s program. AMU/APUS
should make it mandatory prior to starting a program.
