4 Karlstad is geographically located between Stockholm and Oslo, where the river Klarälven meets the northern shore of Lake Vänern. The municipality of Karlstad has approximately 84.000 inhabitants. Karlstad is the seat of the county government in Värmland, one of the twenty-four provinces in Sweden, and holds services directed to the entire Karlstad region. The closer region is composed of Karlstad and four other municipalities in the neighbourhood, altogether forming a greater Karlstad area with about 130.000 inhabitants
