What is waves?
• wave a disturbance that carries energy
  through matter or space; transfer energy
  without transferring matter
• Substance through witch a wave travels
Wave characteristics-
                  wave motion
• Longitudinal waves-
  a mechanical wave       • Transverse wave- a
  in which the              mechanical wave
  disturbance is in the     that vibrates
  same direction or
  parallel to the           perpendicular to the
  direction of wave         direction of the

Wave characteristics-

• Amplitude wave-in any periodic motion the
  maximum distance an object moves from
  equilibrium.


• Wave speed- the speed of a wave depends on
  the medium through which the wave moves.
(Formula: wave speed=wave length x frequency)
(v=λf)

• Example-A visible

  to 700
  nanometers.

• A wave of energy having a frequency within
  the electromagnetic spectrum
• Characteristics- can travel through a medium
• Examples- radio ,waves microwaves, x-rays

Visible light
• Roygbiv The R in ROYGBIV stands for RED, the
  O for ORANGE, the Y for YELLOW, the G for
  GREEN, the B for BLUE, the I for INDIGO and
  the V for VIOLET
