2. Those waves which transmit energy from one place to
another place and move away from its source are called
progressive waves or travelling waves.
There are two types of progressive waves
( a ) Transverse waves
( b) Longitudinal Waves

3. (a) Transverse Waves
In a transverse wave, the particles in the medium move
perpendicular to the direction of the wave.
Parts of transverse waves:
Crest : the highest point of the wave
Trough : the lowest point of the wave

The particles of the disturbed medium move Perpendicular
to the wave motion are called longitudinal waves or
compressional waves

Compression: where the particles are close together
Rarefaction: where the particles are spread apart
