Opening Statement:
The chairperson asks a team memberto read the Family Circle
Opening Statement.
1. Our team meetings are confidential. We do not disclosewhat
is said here to nonparticipating family members, friends,or other
persons.Observing confidentiality, we create an atmosphere of trust
and safety.
2. We join and start conferencecalls on time. By doing so, we
show respectfor family members and their schedules. If someone is
late, we do not stop to go back and explain what was missed. We
continue with our agenda.
3. We speak only about ourselves, using “I” statements. We do
not use “I” statements as thinly veiled “you” statements. We do not
tell others how they feelor think, or what they should do. By keeping
the focus on ourselves,we learn what is within our power to change:
myself.
4. Negative emotions often linger well into early recovery.
Turning anger, resentment,or blame on our family members results
in multiplying our problems. It is bestto work through negative
emotions with our Twelve Step sponsorand during Al-Anon, AA, or
other Twelve Step meetings.
5. We don’t drop unexpected issuesor “bombs” intothe middleof
Family Circle meetings. Wecontact our chairperson before a
meeting todecidehow to proceed properlyor at all.
6. We areactive listeners. We treat one another as we would like
to be treated. Weare tolerant of others’ limitationsand honest about
our own. We celebrateour successes. We remember that noneof us is
perfect, but we are all deserving of love.
7. This is our group and our time. Weuse it wisely for our mutual
benefit. We focus on how theTwelve Stepsare implemented inall our
affairs.
